Commonwealth Defense Force "For those who have gone before, and those who will come after, we fight!"- Motto of the Commonwealth Defense Force
The Commonwealth Defense Force is the armed forces of Canusia. It consists of the Marine Corps, Navy, and a small Home Defense Force, all of which maintain a vigil over the defense of Canusia, its allies, and its interests across the world. The Commanders-in-Chief are the Grand Marshal of the Marine Corps, and the Supreme Admiral of the Navy, who help form military policy, as well as represent the Defense Force on the Alpha Council.
The CDF is an all-volunteer service of Canusian citizens, though some criminals can choose to carry their sentence out through service, and foreign nationals wishing to become citizens can serve a minimum of two tours to earn their citizenship. The CDF also deploys men and women equally, leaving no barriers between genders in any role. This leaves the Defense Force with a large pool of recruits every year, allowing it to maintain a large number of personnel.
Military Age: 16-70 Active Personnel: 5,966,321 Reserve Personnel: 1,888,990 Budget: $267.44 billion (₡540.23 billion) Percent of GDP: 9.9% Headquarters: Office of Defense, Tharkad, Neues Zuhause
From an early time, the Commonwealth as a whole has come to revere the wolves found indigenously, for their pack mentality, as well as the voracious way they cling to life in even the harshest of winters. This has carried over into the Defense Force's military doctrine, focusing on fast, hard-hitting attacks on an enemy from multiple directions by highly mobile, independent units. The use of such tactics, instead of a full-frontal attack, is seen as able to break enemy forces of much greater size and strength than the deployed Commonwealth forces. Any force against the Defense Force can expect to be struck hard from multiple directions in highly coordinated assaults.
The Canusian Marines have a long, proud history of honor, duty, and strength. Starting as the infantry arm of the Navy, the Marines have come to encompass the entire Canusian ground forces, combining Infantry, Armor, and Air forces into a coordinated, technologically superior force that can strike anywhere in the world within hours.

Infantry
The Marines who put boots on the ground during a battle are the bread and butter of the entire Defense Force. Equipped with the best weaponry and armor, they are some of the best trained soldiers in the world. As military age is 16, they have two full years of intense training to shape them into a cohesive fighting force. Deployed largely in groups of 10 or 12, these squads form the backbone of any groundside operation.

Model: MWT-1M Combat Knife Length: 47cm Blade Length: 33cm Type: Melee Weapon Weight: 1.6kg The MWT-1M combat knife is the latest bladed weapon the Canusian marines have employed. The MWT has a blade designed for perfect balance, making it perfect for a throwing weapon within the user's own capabilities, as well as for use in non-combat situations, such as cutting through brush or bindings.
Model: MWT-38A Tactical Tomahawk Length: 40cm Cutting Edge Length: 69.85mm Spike Edge Length: 63.5mm Type: Melee Weapon Weight: 1.68kg The Tactical Tomahawk is an old weapon reborn in the Commonwealth's arsenal. Once an ancient weapon of more primitive humans, the Tomahawk has been remade with modern materials, for modern use. A solid titanium alloy body gives the weapon enough weight to deal serious damage to the intended target, though is far more effective against unarmored targets. Both the leading blade edge, and the spike on the opposite end are coated with a slightly softer compound; this allows the initial edge to wear away over time and uncover the underlying metal, giving it a self-sharpening edge to increase time between the edges being reworked. The main grip of the handle is a stiff, yet porous compound that molds to the user's grip, giving a tight hold. The weapon is also well balanced, enabling the user to actually throw the weapon at the target with devastating accuracy. While primarily a weapon, the Tomahawk is also built as a tool for use in cutting, and is sturdy enough to be used as a hammer, or even used to scale mountainsides or other such obstacles.
Model: M125C-81 Magnum Sidearm Length: 27.5cm Type: Double-Action Revolver Weight: 1.35kg Magazine Size: 7 Rounds Caliber: 11.176mm SAPHP (Semi-Armor Piercing High Penetration) Range: 50m (Optimum) 150m (Maximum) With the onset of automatic weapons, many militaries across the world have adopted a clip-fed sidearm. While this allows for a faster rate of fire, the amount of moving parts makes them prone to jamming or breaking down. The revolver-type sidearm has been adopted because of the lack of possibility to jam, while a star-clip allows for fast reloading comparable to a clip-fed weapon. Using a heavy 11.176mm round to help punch through small armor plates, as well as deal additional damage to the bodies of larger enemies, the cartridge has also been upgraded to a magnum shell to make up for the heavier round. The barrel of the weapon is lower than traditional models, allowing the recoil of each round to be placed more directly into the user's hand. This innovation creates a more stable firing stance, as it prevents the tendency for 'muzzle jump'.
Model: Morita MK-17 Assault Rifle Length: 92cm Weight: 5.5kg (7.2kg loaded) Type: Bullpup Assault Rifle Caliber: --Primary Module: 5.56x45mm --Secondary Module: 25x40mm Impact Grenade, or Saboted 12-gauge Shell Action: Gas operated, rotating bolt Rate of fire: --Primary Module: 800 rounds/minute --Secondary Module: Semi-automatic Effective Range: --Primary Module: ~550m (800m max) --Secondary Module: Grenade-500m (1000m max), Shotgun-30m (200m max) Magazine Size: --Primary Module: 30 rounds --Secondary Module: 5 round/shell box magazine Continuing a long tradition of military assault rifles, the Morita rifle gives the standard CDF infantryman an edge over most soldiers in other armies by combining a reliable assault rifle with the firepower of a grenade launcher and shotgun. While the original project meant to deliver an air-bursting projectile, the resulting MK-17 rifle was lightened with the removal of the excess hardware. Instead, the digital screen and control unit above the rifle's main module has been transformed into a display for a night vision capable camera embedded in the forward section. This gives the user the ability to ease the rifle around corners and fire without being exposed; a distinct advantage in urban combat.
Model: TAC-220 Light Machine Gun Length: 97cm Type: Light Machine Gun Weight: 9.5kg Caliber: 6.5mm Armor Peircing Rate of Fire: 650 rounds per minute Effective Range: 1200m Maximum Range: 1500m Magazine Size: 200 belt-linked rounds The TAC-220 Light Machine Gun is a fully automatic weapon that fires 6.5mm rounds at ranges above a kilometer with above moderate accuracy. This ammunition is held in a long belt that is contained in a large 200 round clip. To increase accuracy over long distances while on full automatic, every third round in the gun's clip is coated with a substance that glows a bright yellow when exposed to heat, allowing the operator to 'walk' the stream of rounds to the target. A red-dot sighting system has also been added, to increase the accuracy of each burst the gunner puts on the target.
Model: MR-182 Designated Marksman Rifle Length: 108cm Type: Marksman Rifle Weight: 5.9kg Caliber: 7.56x51mm Rate of Fire: semi-automatic Effective Range: 750m Magazine Size: 14 Secondary Function: Laser Target Designator (LTD) While the marines have the dedicated sniper’s rifle, the need exists for a lighter weight system that can deliver deadly firepower at a closer range, and in a faster time than it would take to readjust the larger SM295 rifle. The MR-182 uses a heavy 7.56mm round that is able to travel a fair distance before its accuracy diminishes. The rifle also integrates a Laser Target Designator into its structure. This designator is synced with a transmission package the wielder will also carry on their person, in order to 'paint' a desired target for precision air, missile, or artillery strikes.
Model: SM295-AM Sniper Rifle Length: 1.88m Type: Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle Weight: 11.7kg Rate of Fire: 1 round per second Effective Range: 1,700m Magazine Size: 9 rounds Secondary Barrel: Laser Target Designator (LTD) Caliber: 14.5x114mm APFSDS(Armor-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot) Accurate at up to two kilometers, the SM295-AM sniper rifle gives the sniper the ability to take down their target, whether it be an infantry commander, or a lightly armored vehicle. To do this, the rifle fires a very heavy 14.5mm round, ensuring that a great distance can separate the sniper from their target, and that the target can be taken down in one shot. The rifle is also equipped with the LTD, enabling it to be used in target acquisition.
Model: M121-A1 MP Guided Rocket Launcher Length: 78.58cm (114.4cm with launch tubes extended) Type: Multi-Purpose Rocket Launcher Weight: 4kg (17kg with full clip) Rate of Fire: 1 Rocket per second Effective Range: 850m Magazine Size: 4 rockets Ammunition: 70mm Dual-Purpose Rocket (High-Explosive, Anti-Armor) The latest in a series of multi-barreled rocket launchers, the M121 has been given a new guidance system, enabling its ammunition to track down fast moving ground and even slower air vehicles. Using 70mm Dual-Purpose Rockets, each weighing 3.2 kilograms, it is able to be used against a variety of targets. The design of the rocket is split from the rear and front of the rocket itself. The front half of the round is filled with high explosives for a fragmentation explosion, giving the round the explosive capacity to take down light vehicles and most infantry, mostly using its unguided mode. This forward charge is also used to weaken hardened armor and defeat reactive armor, allowing the secondary charge the ability to truly defeat the affected armor. The rear half of the round is a rounded cone, housing an anti-armor shaped charge that explodes on contact with an armored target, melting an inner cone of metal into a jet of molten material, able to cut through all but the thickest armor. The anti-armor role of the rocket is used with the small sensor package added into the launcher itself. The magazine is also a new design, fitting the four rounds side by side in a special-made popout design that folds out, allowing the user to load all four rockets at the same time in an 'X' pattern.
Model: HK-31 'Hunter-Killer' Reconnaissance Probe Length: 52m Width: 51cm Height: 15cm Weight: 2kg Engine Units: 4 Cruising Speed: 20kph Endurance: approx. 48 hours A portable recon drone, the HK-31 was designed to allow Canusian infantry units a bird's eye view of the surrounding area. Weighing only two kilograms, and featuring a collapsible outer hull and engine struts, the Hunter Killer is extremely portable, but is also versatile, able to send visual data back to the infantry squad it's given to.
Canusian Wolf-Hound Military Working Dog Average Mass: 39-43kg Bite Force: ~2620kpa Running Speed: 50-60kph The Canusian Wolf-Hound is an old breed of dog in Canusia, originally a mix between the shepherd dogs brought by the Slostian refugees, and the native wolf populations. The result of generations of selective breeding have brought out a loyal canine capable of being well trained, with more strength and stronger senses than other domesticated dogs. Used with special teams, the Wolf-Hound is used for attack, search and rescue, and search and destroy missions. Their great speed and large size means they can take down any human regardless of their physical prowess. Their sense of smell enables them to identify even trace amounts of material the team would be searching for.

MU-151 'Mad Cat' Armored Utility Vehicle Length: 6.1m Width: 3.2m Height: 3.4m Mass: 2.01-2.34 tons Maximum Speed: 114kph (91kph under max gross weight) Armament: --Cargo Configuration: None --Passenger Configuration: None --Reconnaissance/Light Assault Configuration: .50 Caliber Machine Gun --Anti-Armor Configuration: Anti-Tank Missile Launcher Crew: Driver, Gunner with armed configurations Passengers: 1, 6 maximum with Passenger Configuration Cargo Capacity: 3 tons Propulsion: Heavy-Duty All Terrain Tires (4) The MU-151 is the main ground transport of the Canusian defense forces, used when the service of an Arrowhawk transport is either not required or impossible. Able to carry up to three tons of cargo, the AUV is a veritable design that can be used to ferry supplies, wounded, or even soldiers to and from the battlefield, or simply between bases of operations. The nickname 'Mad Cat' began as a joke for the machine from its conception, but has since stuck to the design. Using a multi-fuel gas turbine engine, the Mad Cat drives four heavy duty motors within four independent wheel struts, allowing the vehicle to cross rough terrain with relative stability.
MF-20 'Stinger' Armored Reconnaissance Personnel Carrier Length: 7m Width: 3m Height: 3.3m, 2.8m with turret lowered Mass: 14 tons Maximum Speed: 90kph Armament: --Dual 30mm Autocannon (800 rounds) --6.5mm Machine Gun (2,000 rounds) --Dual Tube 80mm Missile Launcher [20 missiles] Crew: Driver, Gunner Minimum Crew: Driver Passengers: 12, 16maximum Propulsion: High Density All Terrain Tires (6) While vehicles designed for infantry transport has mainly been relegated to military transports, the CDF military still recognizes the need for a small, swift transport and recon vehicle, able to slip into and out of enemy lines to reconnoiter positions, and perform guerrilla hit and run attacks. With six heavy duty all-terrain tires, the Stinger races along even the roughest terrain, able to climb steep inclines, and even make short jumps across ravines and large ditches. While the main role of the craft is to transport personnel, and reconnoiter areas, the Stinger also comes equipped with an armored turret, giving it moderate firepower to deal with small threats, and enough armor to escape most situations. To better accommodate transport, the turret on the top of the vehicle is able to lower partially into the chassis of the Stinger.

Though carrying lighter armor than its larger counterpart, as well as a smaller main gun, the Rhino comes equipped with a mounted mortar, allowing it to remain behind the cover of buildings or obstacles, yet still assault enemy positions without coming into harms way. A 90mm rifled gun also gives it the ability to strike at enemy armor forces at extreme ranges, while a top speed above 70kph allows it to outmaneuver and outpace the opposition.
MBT-180B 'Thunder' Main Battle Tank Length: 10.5m with gun forward Width: 3.76m Height: 3.24m Mass: 64 tons Maximum Speed: 49kph Operational Range: 536km Armament: --120mm Smoothbore Auto-Loading Gun (50 rounds) --Coaxial .50 Caliber Machine Gun (8,000 rounds) --Remote-Controlled Pintle-Mounted 6.5mm Machine Gun [Mounted on Forward or Rear turret] (1,200 rounds each) Countermeasures: --Smoke/Chaff Launcher (12) Crew: Commander, Driver, Gunner Minimum Crew: Driver Passengers: 10 (riding on the body) Engine: Twin 800hp Multi-fuel Turbine Power/Weight: 25hp/t Propulsion: Tread Pods (4) Propelled by four large tread pods, the chassis of this hardened, well armed machine is an extremely stable firing platform. Able to cruise at a steady pace at its maximum speed, the Thunder's main turret is able to keep on target, moving constantly to adjust for the main chassis' movement even in the roughest terrain. Carrying a powerful 120mm smoothbore cannon as its main armament, the tank is able to pierce through thick, hardened armor to damage or destroy its opponents, with ample backup weaponry to allow it to handle other threats. Twin multi-fuel turbine engines help give it great versatility, allowing the vehicle to run on a wide variety of fuels.
Special Forces: 57th Marine Regiment, "Pathfinders"
The 57th Marine Regiment is a rapid-deployment light infantry combat formation within the Canusian Marine Corps. Pathfinders themselves are offered a position within the regiment after serving in other combat units, and have shown themselves to be a cut above the average marine. The Pathfinder's primary mission is Special Reconnaissance, and are normally deployed ahead of main combat units to perform high risk scouting and preemptive attack missions in small twelve-man fireteams.
The Pathfinders are an equal opportunity force, like the rest of the Commonwealth Defense Force. As long as the candidates are able to perform their required training and duties, they are found suitable for their position.
Operations include: --Special reconnaissance: Special reconnaissance is conducted by small units of highly trained military personnel, usually from special forces units or military intelligence organizations, who operate behind enemy lines, avoiding direct combat and detection by the enemy. As a role, SR is distinct from commando operations, although both are often carried out by the same units. The SR role frequently includes: covert direction of air and missile attacks, in areas deep behind enemy lines, placement of remotely monitored sensors and preparations for other special forces. --Direct action: Short-duration strikes and other small-scale offensive actions conducted as a special operation in hostile, denied, or politically sensitive environments and which employ specialized military capabilities to seize, destroy, capture, exploit, recover, or damage designated targets. Direct action differs from conventional offensive actions in the level of physical and political risk, operational techniques, and the degree of discriminate and precise use of force to achieve specific objectives. --Raids and Ambushes: A military tactic or operational warfare mission which has a specific purpose and is not normally intended to capture and hold terrain, but instead finish with the raiding force quickly retreating to a previous defended position prior to the enemy forces being able to respond in a co-ordinated manner or formulate a counter-attack. Within the tactical mission, a raiding group may consist of personnel specially trained in this tactic (such as commandos or guerrilla fighters), regular soldiers, or any organized group of combatants. --Counter-terrorism operations: The response to terrorist threats and/or acts, both real and imputed.
The Commonwealth Navy is the naval arm of the Commonwealth Defense Force, employing the use of overwhelming strategic force to overcome its opponents, as well as providing force projection for the Commonwealth. With a large number of nuclear powered aircraft carriers and missile submarines, the Navy is capable of protecting the interests of Canusia both close to home, and across the world within a matter of hours.

Special Forces: 501st Shock Troops Division, "Helljumpers"
The Navy 501st Shock Troops Division, aka Helljumpers, are a special operations capable unit of the Commonwealth Defense Force. The Helljumpers' methods of operation allow them to conduct missions against targets that more conventional forces cannot approach undetected. A strictly volunteer force, they are recruited from special operations units in the Navy, as well as the Navy's Military Police and other groundside forces. Potential Helljumpers are selected because of their performance in their chosen Military Occupational Specialty; because every candidate is a veteran from another special operations outfit they have already gone through at least two layers of screening and months of intense training, not counting the years of training received before volunteering for the post. There are no age or gender restrictions, as long as the candidate meets the physical and mental requirements they are guaranteed the opportunity to try out. Once in the division, a candidate's training continues, its entrance requirements serve as a third layer of screening upon two more, where applicants would have theoretically failed to pass. Candidates would, therefore, already have extensive experience in conducting the types of high-risk missions that the 501st typically performs.
The Helljumper name comes from the 501st's typical deployment method, namely an aerial insertion by transport helicopter, or HALO jump from high altitude, normally into a high-risk combat situation.
Operations include: --Deep ground surveillance and long range reconnaissance: Patrols in small groups, in uniform, usually far behind the enemy lines. While direct ground surveillance units may direct air or artillery strikes against enemy positions, they strive to be unobserved, and have only self-defense, not direct action, capability. Groups engaging in surveillance deep behind enemy lines, are commonly known as Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols. --Unconventional warfare: Military and paramilitary operations, normally of long duration, predominantly conducted by indigenous or surrogate forces who are organized, trained, equipped, supported, and directed in varying degrees by an external source. It includes guerrilla warfare and other direct offensive, low visibility, covert, or clandestine operations, as well as the indirect activities of subversion, sabotage, intelligence gathering, escape and evasion. --Counter-terrorism operations: The response to terrorist threats and/or acts, both real and imputed. --Counter-contraband operations: Missions undertaking the recapturing of smuggled/stolen goods. --Personnel and special equipment recovery/capture: The recovery/medical treatment of friendly personnel in combat environments, as well as the capability of capturing high valued individuals and any equipment.
Low-Orbit/High-Altitude Insertion Vehicle The Helljumper's insertion pod has been heavily developed to allow for the insertion of small teams deep within any mission area. Designed to be carried in high altitude transports, or fitted into special made rockets, the pods fall unassisted into a target zone, guided by a GPS system to make sure the pods land in a relatively flat area, and close enough to one another to keep a squad from having to search for each other. As they fall, a drag chute will extend to help slow the pod from terminal velocity. Without a more traditional parachute, the pod relies on a system of eight solid-fuel rockets to slow decent before it comes to a controlled crash on the ground. The bottom of the pod is meant to crumple in a controlled way, helping to slow deceleration and help ensure the occupant's survivability. The high speed and relative slow size of the pod make it highly difficult to target by anti-air artillery, and can allow for more stealthy night insertions than more conventional means of transport. Even if a high amount of fire is brought to bear, the loss of one or two pods leaves most of the squad untouched, whereas the loss of a transport could mean the deaths of all aboard. Dropped from an altitude higher than most High-Altitude Low-Opening jumps, the pods carry enough internal oxygen to allow the occupant to breathe for the few minutes they will occupy the pod before landing.
???-1681Much of the pre-history of the island of Canusia comes from the folk tales and stories of the Danann culture that came to dominate much of Zephyria, Borealis, and Canusia before the arrival of the old-world settlers. Largely based in small villages, these early peoples eked out a village lifestyle, and while they were able to forge bronze and iron weapons, never managed to advance to the stronger steel weapons.
In the cold of the far north, the tribes adopted the hunting styles of the local wolf populations, finding success in the tactic of herding prey animals into a circle, where a small number of hunters could take it down by wounding the animal from wherever the animal was not facing. The wolf came to play a large part of their culture, revered and worshiped as spirits.
1681The nation of Slostia is in the midst of a bloody war between religious factions. Caught between the Orthodox forces, and those of the Avettoites, hundreds of villagers, farmers, and tradesmen were left homeless, cast out as their homes were burned for being on the wrong side of the war. Even a half dozen minor nobles were forced to flee their lands in the face of bloody battles, some cut down before they could escape their keeps.
These refugees, the rich and the poor, began to migrate about the countryside, trying to find an area of Slostia untouched by the ravages of war. Word of a gathering of refugees begins to spread among those affected, banding together to try and find a new place to settle. This gathering is, unfortunately, caught between both sides of the war, their camp devastated and the populace slaughtered between the opposing forces.
1682Word begins to spread again of survivors of the massacre, led by a young noble, Jorgan Strijker. He begins to call refugees of the war to him, promising a better future than can be found in their homeland. Hundreds flock to the eastern coast of Slostia, gathering in large numbers in response to the offer of a true future.
1683With just over two thousand refugees, Jorgan Strijker uses what remains of his estate to purchase a large merchant fleet, and sets sail in early March, so their journey north would coincide with the thaw of the northern oceans. Leaving their homeland behind, the refugees left Slostia, hoping to search for unclaimed land far beyond the reach of the religious fervor.
For months, the refugees sailed north, and then to the east, where rumors told of free lands ripe for claim. Passing along the northern edge of the continent of Xia, going to port only to resupply with what meager provisions they could afford, the ships sailed east, led by the inspiration of Jorgan Strijker, leaving behind the old world for good.
Before winter began to set in and freeze, a large number of storms began to rock the small fleet. Deaths began to mount from starvation, dehydration, and the cold of the northern ocean. Two of the ships succumbed to mutiny, veering off from the fleet to seek their own fortunes, while the remaining vessels continued their course.
With winter setting in, and the ice from the arctic starting to creep from the north, the remaining ships were forced to divert southward. This proved to be their salvation, as the storms had been limiting their line of sight and hiding the vast, unexplored lands just to the south of their course.
Sailing into what would be called Errettung Hafen (Redemption Harbor), the refugees found a wealth of resources in the bay. Food was found in the local fish, seals, and deer populations, while the ships that guided them to safety provided shelter during the coldest days. Mainly made up of farmers and tradesmen, their success in hunting came after observing the local wolf population hunting deer, leading the hunters to learn by their example.
1684Come the spring thaw, the refugees-turned-settlers began to truly establish the beginnings of a true home. Taking full advantage of the short spring and summer of the far north, the survivors spread quickly through the untainted lands. Small settlements began to grow further south, where lush forests had grown around the base of the central mountains, while timber was brought back to the new settlement of Tharkad. Through the dedicated work of the survivors, and despite the loss of Jorgan Strijker to sickness early in the year, the settlements were far more capable of weathering the next harsh winter.
1684-1721Over the next few decades, the settlers began to build upon their successes, raising families and erecting new settlements further south from Tharkad. During this time, groups of smaller settlements began to band together, separate from the others. Trade ports began to spring up along the coast, with new ships being built to enable the settlers to regain contact with the old world. With established trade routes to the west, the early Canusians entered into a time of prosperity.
During this time, the refugee Slostians began to meet with the local Danann tribes. While some hostilities occurred,
Eventually, one group of settlers moving west would come across the remnants of the mutineers who had split off from the refugee fleet decades before. The resulting events would nearly spell the doom of the settlers.

1932-1946The World War that rocked much of the world was rarely seen by Canusian nationals and forces. The island's remote location in the north Galinean Ocean meant that Canusia was not a target for either side.
The war, however, favored Canusia well. A producer of foodstuffs, ammunition, and other supplies, Canusia benefited by supplying goods to both sides, while staying out of the conflict itself.
The Canusian government is a Bicameral system, with both branches holding checks and balances over the other, in order to keep one from gaining more power than the other. These branches are the Alpha Council, and the High Court.
The Alpha Council is made up of a total of twenty-one members. These members include eighteen Councillors, the Grand Marshall of the Marine Corps, the Supreme Admiral of the Navy, as well as the Alpha Councillor.
-The Councillors are elected by their represented states, three coming from each state. They make up the bulk of the Council, and each have the ability to cast a vote on issues before the Council. Each Councillor is elected for a term of two years, with a limit of three terms. The limit of three Councillors from each state guarantees that each state has an equal voice on the Council.
To be eligible to be elected to the position of Councillor, the person in question must be a native citizen of the Commonwealth. This means they must have been born on territory belonging to the Commonwealth, or one of its member states. The person must be at least 28 years of age, and must have spent a minimum of 10 years living in the state they hope to represent. They must also have never been convicted of a felony crime, regardless of time served.
-The Grand Marshal and Supreme Admiral are the only Council members not elected to their posts. Both positions are held without limit, until the respective officer retires, dies, or is asked to step down. These posts ensure that the Commonwealth Defense Force has its say in the politics of Canusia.
To be elevated to the position, a separate panel of officers in their respective branch will convene to decide to promote someone of at least the rank of Vice Admiral for the navy, and Captain General for the Marines to the appropriate rank.
-The Alpha Councillor is the head of both the Alpha Council, as well as the Commonwealth as a whole. Beholden of the executive powers to appoint justices to the High Court, the ability to break ties within the Alpha Council, sign agreed upon legislation into laws, veto legislation to be returned to a vote by the Council, meet and negotiate with other heads of state on foreign and internal matters, and to ask the Council to declare war. The Alpha Councillor is elected for a term of four years, with a maximum of two terms.
Eligibility to be elected to the post of Alpha Councillor is held to a higher standard than other positions, given the power the post holds. The person in question must not be a current member of the Alpha Council, nor could they have been a part of the Council within the previous ten years. Only natural born citizens are eligible to be elected, must have at least reached the age of 35, and they must have residence within the Commonwealth for no less than fifteen years before being election. The Alpha Councillor must also be elected by popular vote by the people of Canusia. The candidate must also have never been convicted of a felony crime within the Commonwealth.
The High Court
The High Court is the highest point of the judicial system within the Commonwealth. Made up of nine Justices, the Court rules on matters concerning the lawful nature of motions passed by the Alpha Council. The High Court will also oversee proceedings if an order of impeachment is proposed against a member of the Alpha Council. With each case, a simple majority will be used to determine the fate of a motion or trial.
Each Justice is placed into the Court by the Alpha Councillor, who may nominate a judge to the Court. The nominee must then face an interview by a session of the Alpha Council, in which a two-third majority vote is required to uphold the nomination. Once placed on the High Court, the Justice holds the position for life, and cannot be removed save for a motion by the rest of the Justices on the High Court, or by the Justice retiring.
To be nominated to the position of Justice, the nominee must be of at least 35 years of age, and must have a documented history of their study of Law spanning a minimum of 14 years. The nominee must also hold the position of an elected judge in one member state within the Commonwealth for no less than 5 years. Any felony convictions automatically disqualify the nominee.
The Canusian economy is a burgeoning example of capitalism at its best. The government as a whole stays out of the way of most businesses, allowing popular demand to set the prices of goods and services, and keep businesses competitive to supply the best. Without income taxes, citizens are left with more of their earned pay to spend as they will, with sales taxes more than making up for what would otherwise be gathered from the populace directly.

Canusia is located on a large island in the northern Galinean Ocean, to the west of Borealis. Its climate ranges from the relatively flat grasslands in the southern portions, to vast coniferous forests that surround high mountains in the central regions, to the frozen tundra of the north.
The northern region of Canusia is dominated by relatively flat tundra. The short warm seasons and long winter nights prohibit the growth of larger trees and shrubs, though many smaller plants thrive with the lack of competition. While much of Canusia's farmland lies in the south, greenhouses allow the growth of many specialty crops, given the long summer days.
Much of central Canusia is dominated by a mountainous region, dubbed the World's Cap mountain range. The mountains are home to high altitude species of both plants and animals, though there are few settlements in the range, as access can be limited even during the warmer summer months, when snow does not block roads or air travel. There are, however, several mines that continue to retrieve valuable ore and minerals from beneath the mountains, leading to a high amount of mining towns closer to the base of the mountains.
Surrounding the base of the World's Cap mountains are the massive forests of Canusia. Vast, untouched plots of land still stand as a testament to nature in the face of human involvement. These forests are still regularly harvested for their timber and other resources, though all effort is made to replant and regrow the areas of forest that have been cut down, in order to provide a continuous supply, as well as to preserve the beauty of central Canusia.
Canusia's southern region is dominated by large grasslands stretched over rolling hills. Southern Canusia holds the majority of the island's farmland, the lack of trees affording excellent growing conditions when coupled with the long days during the summer growing periods.
Canusia's capital, Tharkad, is located on the northern coast of the island, set around the southwestern shore of Redemption Harbor. During the winter months, ocean travel to and from the northern regions are highly restricted, and air travel can grind to a halt during the harsh storms.
The largest city in Canusia is Barcelona, located in the state of Barcelona. Nestled at the foot of a small chain of mountains, it overlooks the rolling hills and grasslands that give Canusia its main source of farmland. Located farther south than Tharkad, Barcelona is accessible year-round, allowing it to flourish even in the cold winter months. It is the center for commerce and trade between Canusia and the rest of the world, settled near a large river that flows out into the Galinean Ocean.
