Florinthus & Galeae What is the official name of your religion? The Daienist Reformed Church What are your basic beliefs? The Daienist Church is a branch of the Trivense Universal Church (above) that identifies itself with the teachings of Lennox Daien, a religious scholar from Florinthus. The core belief of the Daienist faith is that the word of Yua is clear and concise, and that the recorded teachings of his son Yeshua (Joshua in Navis) present all commands and doctrines of the Yeshuan faith clearly, and his teachings carry all the authority of Yua. Traditions are irrelevant, and only serve to corrupt the will of Yua with the nature of men. For more information on Daienist philosophy, visit my factbook. I'll be finishing the religion section in the near future. Do you have deities? What are their names? The same as the Trivense Universal Church, which is posted above under the outdated name "Cerberusian Universal Church" Can you convert? Yes. in the early church, conversion was done in a very-official manner at "mass revival meetings" throughout Florinthus. Nowadays, its much less formal, as with most religions. Who are the current leaders and how are they elected? The leader of the Daienist church is the Holy Patriarch. Holy Patriarch's were originally selected by the "higher-ups" of the Daienist faith at Councils. The councils were held every 5-10 years, and when a patriarch died, another religious leader would take his place until a new Holy Patriarch could be selected at the next Council. In the mid-1760's, this process was regulated so that selection could be simpler in the future. Since then, Holy Patriarchs can only be Bishops, must have an exemplary record of faith, and are required to be at least 50 years of age. Holy Patriarchs serve as the leader of the Daienist Church for life. As soon as a new Holy Patriarch is named, the process of selecting his successor is started, and after a year or two, his "heir" is selected. Who are your major figures? (Prophets, leaders, etc) All the same as the Trivense Universal Church prior to the early 1700s. Lennox Daien is seen as the key prophet of the Daienist faith (who knew?). Holy Patriarch Nicholas IX (1829-1915ish) was a key contributor to the peaceful resolution of the Florinthian Civil Wars, oversaw the creation of the Confederation, and also made amends with Pope Invictus III of the Universal Church. King Corin II Aberdeen of Balzary was the first leader to accept Lennox Daien's teachings, and was a key leader of the early church. What is the origin of your religion? Lennox Daien posted his "Statements of Reform" on the doorway to the Cathedral of Blessed Tyrus in Lien, the capital of Balzary, in 1729. If you want to learn more, visit my factbook. I have a lot of the early-church stuff fleshed out. What are the sects of your religion? Are you a sect? In case you haven't noticed, Daienism originally stems from the Trivense Universal Church. As far as further sects of the Daienist faith, there have been a few, but none of them have ever gained much following. During the Florinthian Civil War, there were a major debate that dominated the Daienist Church. It related to forcibly converting the other "heathen" Florinthians through war. Some supported it, and felt that it was justified, and some opposed it, feeling that heresy was something that was determined by Yua, not man. This division of ideas flared up at certain times, particularly when Daienists were being persecuted in other states. When the wars concluded in 1888, the debate lost its meaning, and the division fizzled out. This was more of an internal debate and there was never any talk of an actual division of the church. The only other division of the church is based on the topic of predestination. Revisionist Daienists believe that man has free will, and it is his responsibility to act according to the will of Yua, and stop anyone else who is acting against Yua's will. Orthodox Daienists believe that Yua has already determined the fate of man, so man should not be concerned with what is or is not the will of Yua, since everything is the will of Yua. Man may foolishly believe that he has free will, and can certainly think freely, but ultimately his actions are already determined by Yua. Man's responsibility is maintaining mental vigilance, remaining honest and loyal in his thoughts and faith, and ultimately open himself up to the will of Yua. Revisionists are more concerned with controlling actions, while the Orthodox are more concerned with controlling sinful thoughts and temptations. How is your religion organized? 1. Holy Patriarch - The official leader of the Church. His word is respected, but it is not law. This is a key distinction that was made by the early church to prevent the creation of another Pope, who they felt wielded too much political power. 2. Bishop - governs a large region. In Florinthus, each state has a Bishop with the exception of the Galeaen states, which are represented by a single Bishop. The Bishops are the ones who meet in the Councils and elect new Patriarchs, as well as vote on other issues and concerns regarding the church. 3. Ordinary - Governs small regions, that usually encompass 5-10 churches. Must attend councils, and may vote. 4. Priest - governs a single church; is responsible for teaching those who visit his church, as well as maintenance of the building etc. The actual way that the churches are governed (council of Elders, single leader, elections, etc.) is up to the individual church to decide. If the Priest doesn't govern the church, than he is responsible for teaching the churches congregation, as well as representing the church. Each priest must be at Councils, and they are free to voice their opinions, but they may not vote. 5. Congregation - rank and file members of the church. Do not officially govern anything, but can be selected to govern their church, should their church allow it. |
