3. Politics Delminia is a socialist state and a federal republic made up of seven socialist republics: Bregavia, Dragonia, Illyria, Krk, Luzia, Monterojo and Savia. Its constitution has been passed shortly after its foundation in 1952. It was firstly amended in 1957 after the join of Monterojo and four times after that. The Socialist League for Progress and Justice (SLPJ) won the first elections in 1952, and remains in power until today. It is composed by several bloc parties but especially by its three major parties: the Socialist Unity Party/Marxist-Leninist Popular Front (SUP/MLPF), the Socialist People's Party (SPP) and the Savian Communist Party (SCP). The SCP represents Savia, while the SPP represents Monterojo and the SUP/MLPF represents the other five entities. Each of the seven federal subjects sends one delegate to the Federal Presidency. In the Federal Presidency, political issues concerning the seven states are discussed and solved. Every year, the delegate of another socialist republic becoms the President of Delminia. Since January 1, 2013 Ismail Mezenxhiu acts as the nation's President, representing the Socialist Republic of Illyria. Delminia's parliament, the Supreme People's Council, is solely made up by members of the SLPJ and situated in the nation's capital, Subotica. The parliamentarians elect the Prime Minister for a five years term. He is the most important political figure as he forms the government and determines its political guidelines. Since 1952, most of the Prime Ministers have been members of the SUP/MLPF. However, Danilo Belada, in office since 2007, is the chairman of the Monterojin SPP. Current politics Since his election in 2007, Belada commits his government to the modernization of Delminia's state system, causing great improvements in civil rights issues. In 2008, the censorship of internet and print media has been relaxed. Since 2009, gay couples enjoy the same rights as straight couples and since 2011, the government has been planning to introduce several special economic areas in some of Delminia's cities. However, the Delminian citizens still suffer a total lack of any political freedom. Foreign relations After strong ties to other socialist countries have been relativized in the early 1960s, Delminia maintains a policy of neutrality, enjoying economical and cultural partnerships with socialist as well as with capitalist countries. Defense The Federal People's Armed Forces (FPAF) is divided into the Federal Army, the Federal Airforce, the Federal Navy and the Partisan Brigades. It is a militia army with 346,750 active soldiers and a reserve personell of ca. 3 million as of 2012 due to general conscription. 4.0 per cent of the nation's GDP is spent on the army. The equipment has been modernized since the 1990s, however it's rather antiquated compared to the armed forces of industrial nations. Most of the ground force's equipment as well as the naval vessels are produced in Delminia whereas most of the military aircraft is imported material. The Partisan Brigades are a seperate part of the FPAF acting as a Home Guard and as an official government paramilitary. Each of the federal subjects has its own Partisan Brigades formations. According to the Total People's Defense doctrine, every citizen should be trained to being able to resist an aggressor. Thus, more than 3 million Delminians are currently able to fight in a war for the nation's independence. However, the FPAF is not really equiped to support such a huge force. Due to the nation's non-aligned policy, the sole purposes of the FPAF are to defend the nation's independence and to offer huminatarian aid. |

Demographics Delminia is a multiethnic state uniting several religions, languages and cultures. The Luzians are the country's slightly biggest ethnic group. They speak the Luzian dialect of the Luzo-Dragonian language, using the Cyrillic alphabet, and are predominantly members of the Luzian Orthodox Church. Most of the Luzians live in Delminia's hilly southern east. They are said to be very proud people and sometimes accused of trying to strengthen their political power. The second biggest ethnic group are the Illyrians who speak Illyrian, an Indo-Hesperian language in a branch by itself, sharing its branch with no other language. Though they shouldn't be mixed up with the ancient Illyrians, they are supposed to be Delminia's indigenous people's descendants. Most of the Illyrians are Sunnis and live in the northern region. They are often stereotyped as being socially backward as they still obey their traditional custom laws rather than the state's laws. However, they are very dedicated to protect federalism against Luzian centralization politics. The Cerberusian-Catholic Dragonians speak the Dragonian dialect of the Luzo-Dragonian language, using the Cerberusian alphabet. They are the predominant nation in the federal subjects of Dragonia and Krk. They are known for being pious and hard-working seamen and traders traditionally, but they are also stereotyped as being calculating and disloyal. The fourth biggest ethnic group are the Sunni Bregavians, living mostly in the hilly eastern region. They speak the Bregavian dialect of the Luzo-Dragonian language and use the Cerberusian alphabet as well as the Cyrillic script. Traditionally, they are renown farmers, but they are also said to be very enthusiastic about technological progress. The Catholic Savians mostly live in the southern Socialist Republic of Savia. Their language, Savian, is closely related to the Luzo-Dragonian language, hence allowing them to communicate with most of the other peoples without bigger problems. Some of Delminia's most famous scientists were or are Savians. Savians are said to be not as fun-loving as the other Delminians. Delminia is a country with one of the world's largest Dom communities. Originating from Southern Xian, the Dom used to be a nomadic people. However, nearly all of them live in cities today, forming whole city quartes dominated by Dom inhabtiants. They speak Domari, another Indo-Hesperian language, but with little similarities to the other languages spoken in Delminia and with a rather oral than written tradition. Though they are emancipated and respected members of the society today, the had to suffer much discrimination in their past. The Delminian ethnicity is a term that citizens can use if they want to express their connection to the state or if they descend from members of different ethnicities. The smallest, but probably the pridest group are the Monterojins. They speak the Monterojin dialect of the Luzo-Dragonian language, using the Cyrillic script, and are mostly members of the Luzian Orthodox Church. As Monterojo is the only region of the country that never has been completely conquered by another nation since the Slavic peoples started to settle there (due to its inhospitable and dry limestone mountains), they are very proud of their homeland. The other Delminian often see them as brutes, but nonetheless also praise their loyalty and steadfastness. Demographics by ethnic group Luzians: 23.8 % - 6.4 million Illyrians: 23.2 % - 6.2 million Dragonians: 19.4 % - 5.5 million Bregavians: 10.3 % - 2.8 million Savians: 8.3 % - 2.2 million Dom: 6.2 % - 1.7 million Delminians: 5.1 % - 1.4 million Monterojin: 2.6 % - 0.7 million Others: 1.1 % - 0.3 million |
