One of the things I have noticed over a series of RPs is how they are extremely beneficial to older nations, NS is no exception where population continues to grow over time. Another issue is how NS has basically no controls over your military spending, research, technology, and buildups basically leaving massive room for god modding an army out of nowhere or suddenly starting the construction of 300 ships with no background RP to support the mobilization. In a previous region (long ago) we were able to eliminate some of this by half implementing a system that controls a nations ability to arm itself by putting in place a half built economy where a nation knew how much it was spending on military based on its GDP , population and % spending (was found by an offsite calculator). The system made room for customization of population as well by choosing a base population and allowing a nation to increase/decrease their population causing an opposite effect on their GDP (more people was less GDP, based on a set person/$ exchange rate). One of the main flaws though was that as soon as a person jumped their nation spending and we updated the system they would god mod their numbers up to the max that the amount would support instead of taking a couple months to reach this new strength. To counter this I further propose adding either a factory system where a person builds a number of factories, each with a set production rate or introducing an acquisitions price to limit buildup (on initial setup the nation would be allowed to make their army come out of thin air but only during this period, after they would have to follow production rules) Overall the system created significant structure to the RP in military areas by actually displaying who were the military superpowers and how different the spending amounts were. |
