Burn Baby Burn!

Alrighty, so I know it's a bit early in the game to be pondering over possible Guest of Honor for next year but since I'm starting to get everything updated, I figured why the hell not? The earlier we can book busy people the better. I'm sure by now some of you have already figured out my general method of operation: I love 'indie' type people. The kind of independent people that are just off the edge of the mainstream radar. The kind of people who are up-and-coming or just a little 'different.' Some of this is because I don't always like to follow the norm or the stigma that is set for anime conventions to have big, expensive, and famous voice actors. The other part was one of the things I just mentioned in my last sentence: Expensive. I'm sorry but people like Vic Mignogna don't come cheap no matter how nice they are. While I do hope to be able to book bigger and greater guests as the convention grows and we start attracting a larger crowed, with the economy as it is, people like him simply are not in the budget. That is why I've been thinking about asking another group of people to attend as guests. If you where at Anime SG 2010, you may have bought something from their booth: The folks at Scuttlebutt Ink. If you are unfamiliar with them, check out their website linked above. They not only create fun 'fan badges' but also produce a full color manga titled Shounen Fight! - Magic: Not Just For Girls Anymore <---- An epic comic I might add. I've read before on their web page that they sometimes agree to attend as guests and hosts panels in exchange for a booth in the dealers room which is something I will be more then happy to provide them. ![]() So please give me your feedback and tell me what you think. If you have any other ideas for out of the ordinary guests or people that we can book within the convention budget, please go ahead and posts! |

Well we seem to be getting a good response towards them so far so I'm going to wait a few days to see if they respond to my tag on Facebook regarding this and then drop them a line to toss the idea their way. I also got an email from the guy who runs Mini-Komix (Remember the Super Sexy Sketch Book? Yeah they gave us that) who also wants to attend as a guest and have a table in the artists alley in return. I'm not exactly sure how to respond to this one....

Hey! How about trying the artist/author of DramaCon and Nightschool Svetlana Chamoka (I don't think I spelled her last name right). It says on her website that she considers every request she gets. What do we have to lose? |

D: Erm... I wouldn't know how to respond to that either... Indie Comics are great and everything, but their stuff really inst my cup of tea. |

Sadisticartist: That actually is a very good idea. If she isn't too expensive to get that would be really awesome. I'll look into it. If we don't get her this year, we can always book for previous years when the con has a budget that can start to support flying out guests. That's the big issue right now is that most of them want plan tickets, hotel rooms and food allowances (and some times an appearance fee) which can REALLY add up. >.<Shiro: Same here. Besides, there stuff isn't very suitable for the Utah crowed. I did rather dislike having to check ID for each of their books we gave away and the Super Sexy Sketch Book made me rather nervous. |

lol At least our joke version was possibly 16 or older. XD But yeah not particularly Utah friendly. A few people were worried about their parents kicking them for some of Heidi's prints. |

We aren't too worried about her. I've read her manga (since it was one of the cosplay prizes). But it was the sponsor's mangas that were provided that where a little unfit for the Utah crowed. |
