Asalaam Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatahu

May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you all......and I mean ALL of you.

I suppose for some of you, it's quite obvious why we would start a forum to answer the EDL (English Defence League) but let me state my reasons for doing so....

Some time ago, I started researching into the EDL.....who they are, what their ethos was, what their aims are etc etc. It started out seeming to me that this group were against extremist Muslims. Hey, no problem there.....so am I! As I delved deeper into the organisation, it became very apparent that these people are actually against Islam full stop.

I went on their forum for a brief time and my experience on there and the things I read on there told me a few things;
1) This is a highly xenophobic group
2) There were many racist people in this group
3) Ignorance was rampant amongst these people
4) They were not prepared to listen to anything that contradicted their ignorant beliefs
5) They felt it was appropriate to not only speak out against Islam, but to say some very derogatory things about our Prophet (saws).
6) If you didn't Toe the Line, then you would be banned, have posts deleted etc etc - very democratic!

Even though many people lived up to the stereotype of knuckle dragging Neanderthal beer swillers who would join a group such as this, it wasn't really those 'type' of people that actually disturbed me. What got to me was those people on the forum, who came across as quite level headed, articulate and reasonable who were joining this group!

I couldn't get my head round why people like that would join a racist, xenophobic, hate filled group? Well I suppose I kinda understand.

Ignorance breeds Fear. Fear breeds Hatred. Hatred breeds Ignorance.

It's a vicious circle and if you are stuck in it, you can't see the wood for the trees.

I make Dua to Allah (swt) that he gives all of us who are involved in this project, the ability to break the cycle of Ignorance that people have of Islam, to promote peace and to alleviate the fears of the Muslim and non-Muslim alike. Ameen

And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in a way that is best, except for those who commit injustice among them, and say, "We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you. And our God and your God is one; and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."

In the Name of Allah the Most High, the Most Merciful.

The EDL is cult that has surfaced in our times and enjoys the popular support of mainly white working class males. The EDL has raised some valid reasons that concern the average British citizen; like epic immigration levels and the insulting actions of a small section of the Muslim community towards soldiers returning from combat.

Despite the courageous actions of the Muslims of Luton who successfully tackled and neutralised the handful of extremists amongst their midst, the EDL remained unabated and quickly transformed into the mouthpiece of the rightwing Islamaphobic media that thrives on inaccurate and biased reports towards Islam.

After attempting to reason with the EDL through dialogue on their open forum, I have achieved nothing but frustration as they delete all posts by Muslims so that they remain unimpeded in spreading lies about Islam and Muslims.

I sincerely hope this forum will enable all Muslims to counter the slander and lies the EDL is spreading about Islam, with the help of its Zionist accomplices. I also hope this forum will serve as a reference point to anyone wishing to learn about the true teachings of Islam.

HM welcome to the forum. Thanks for your introductory post. Please encourage others you know to join this forum and make it a place of reasoned debate to fuel greater understanding of Islam, Muslims and the issues surrounding us.

We will in the coming days and weeks be uploading more and more articles but in the meantime, feel free to post your thoughts and experiences.
And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in a way that is best, except for those who commit injustice among them, and say, "We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you. And our God and your God is one; and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."

Thanks Ajes and welcome to the forum. You are right about the misunderstanding around Islam and we hope that we can turn this forum into a community who can discuss and debate without having to resort to insults like I have seen on 'other' forums.

Also, one of the main reasons for this forum is to explain what Islam is really about as opposed to what the EDL think Islam is about. We have students of knowledge backed by some noteable Ullema contributing to the forum but your contribution is as important as theirs.

I look forward to seeing this community grow over the weeks and months. If you ever get stuck in relation to posting etc, please contact either myself or any of the Admin/Moderator team.

Enjoy! :)

ameen. Jazahkallah khairun abuaisha for joining this forum. I look forward to your positive contribution to making this forum the place to be for clarification and refutation of those who speak ill of Islam with no knowledge.
