Since prehistoric times, the legend of Mother Nature has represented the life giving and sometimes unexplainable forces of nature. Different societies have different visions of Mother Nature. Ancient Greece It is thought that Mother Nature can trace her birth to Ancient Greece. In Ancient Greece, Mother Nature was a mythological goddess named Demeter. Demeter was, technically, the goddess of the harvest. Legend has it that her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped by Hades and brought to the underworld. Demeter punished the earth and refused to allow fruits and vegetables to grow until her daughter was safely returned to her. Accordingly, Zeus had to intervene and get Persephone back for the good of the world. Demeter allowed the earth to bear fruit, hence her name Mother Nature. Modern History Although Mother Nature was not known as Demeter in the Middle Ages, she was a very popular figure. Christian thinkers of the time did not see her as a goddess but did see her as created by God. She was thought to live in the place between the heavens and the earth. Today, Mother Nature seems to bear responsibility for all that happens with weather, animals and crops on planet Earth. While we certainly know more than our forefathers about the science of nature, the legend persists and is often alluded to when circumstances warrant. For example, when Hurricane Katrina devastated the United States gulf coast in 2005 people began to talk about what could have been done to bring about Mother Nature’s wrath. Clearly, in the modern day, some people are using Mother Nature as a metaphor – as a symbol who makes the wind blow and the gardens grow. Yet, while we understand infinitely more about how plants grow and how and why storms form, there is still an element of awe. As Muslims we give no value to such fairytale stories about Mother Nature and we follow that which our Lord who told us - "Among His Signs are the Night and the Day, and the Sun and the Moon. Do not prostrate to the sun and the moon, but prostrate to Allah, Who created them, if it is Him ye wish to serve.[41:37] "Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of the ships through the ocean for the profit of mankind; in the rain which Allah Sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds which they Trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth;- (Here) indeed are Signs for a people that are wise." I agree Ethan! There would be no chance for groups like "EDL" to emerge if England was more closer to its Christian roots & god conscious!!! |

I would probably say it's safe to say that the EDL members comprises of the following types of people as described in the Bible; Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21 Also from what is apparent in their activity, they show signs of immense ENVY. They (EDL) say that their way of life is threaten. I’m asking myself what way of life? A life of fornication, adultery, murder, drunkenness, paedophilia, elicits behaviour etc? Give me a break. They should just let the Moslems be. I don’t see any harm from them. I don’t see the British “way of life” being threatened. Why can’t we live side by side? If anything we may be able to learn a thing or two from each other. Edited by Ethan, Mar 13 2011, 04:05 PM.

I agree this is becoming a Godless country slowly which is why it is loosing it's morals. We must all make an effort to return the people to their religions, that would be better for all citizens of this country. Of course ideally we would love for them to embrace Islam as I believe that is the true religion of God. But it's better to live beside practicing Christians and Jews rather than godless, moral void humans. |

Allah says "Let there be no compulsion in religion, indeed truth and guidance is made crystal clear from ambiguity and falsehood" TMQ - Chapter 2 verse 256. He most high and blessed also said: "Indeed, We hurl the Truth against falsehood, and it knocks out its brain, and behold falsehood does perish! TMQ- Chapter 21 verse 18. | |
