Little nod to the late Gil Scott Heron there, because I grew up listening to poets like him, Curtiss Mayfield, Stevie Wonder and Steel Pulse and making me aware that we have much more in common as people than we have differences. I have worked in Luton for most of my life, and despite the efforts of the National Front, the BNP and now the EDL it has been a town that hums with energy and vitality when people just let it.
I feel that this most recent incarnation of intolerance is made more sinister because of the Governments latest onslaught against the working class which breeds fear and hatred through ignorance.
I have no religious affiliation, but I respect the faith of individuals and their right to follow their chosen paths.
I look forward to seeing other points of view, learning and debating with people with a broadly similar world view.

Welcome to the forum. The only person I recognise from that list is Stevie Wonder!!

Anyway, I agree that we have more in common than we have differences and that the current situation with right wing extremists has been helped by the actions of Government.

I look forward to your contributions to this forum and i'm sure you will find that there are many broadminded individuals here who like a good discussion/debate
And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in a way that is best, except for those who commit injustice among them, and say, "We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you. And our God and your God is one; and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."

Hi emken67

Welcome to the forum, i am certainly one who advocates freedom to choose a way of life, i also agree with those who say we can debate as to what is the best way of life, we don't have to agree with each other, but that is where the limit is debate, discuss and tolerate. As for hatred, racism, violence against one whom you differ with all because he/she has chosen a way different than yours then that in an of it self is extremism, radicalisation taken to a next level.

live...and let live!

welcome

James
Allah says "Let there be no compulsion in religion, indeed truth and guidance is made crystal clear from ambiguity and falsehood" TMQ - Chapter 2 verse 256. He most high and blessed also said: "Indeed, We hurl the Truth against falsehood, and it knocks out its brain, and behold falsehood does perish! TMQ- Chapter 21 verse 18.
