The Sikh community in Luton is up in arms over the sexual assault of a Sikh girl. Although the police have declined to comment the suspect is thought to be a Pakistani man. Typically the EDL, who care as about women's rights as they do about their personal hygiene, have taken to streets in 'solidarity' with the Sikh community. lionsingh a Facebook user who could be the same lionsingh who used to post on this forum claimed that EDL were 'invited' to join the protest. Although some unofficial reports are saying this isn't the case.

Quote:

HUNDREDS of members of the Sikh community protested outside Luton Police Station last night following allegations that a young woman had been sexually assaulted.

Scores of Sikh men and women converged on the Buxton Road station at around 9pm after the allegations were made following an incident on Monday.

Protestors, many of them from outside of Luton, blocked one side of Stuart Street with concerns over police handling of the incident.

Several English Defence League supporters joined the Sikhs in protest.

Representatives from the Sikh community were invited into the police station to discuss their concerns, but police, some with police dogs, eventually guarded the entrance to the station and herded protestors away from Buxton Road.

The group were eventually escorted back to the Dallow Road temple and eventually dispersed before midnight.

Police had met with members of the community at the Gurdwara in Dallow Road earlier in the day to address their concerns.

Officers say that they are continuing to work with members of the community to ensure that they are kept up-to-date.

Beds Police Chief Supt Mike Colbourne said: “Obviously we have a duty to facilitate lawful, peaceful protest and if people have concerns it is right they are aired responsibly. Our priority first and foremost, however, is with the victim in this matter and her family.”

A man has since been charged with common assault following the incident and will appear at Luton Magistrates Court this morning.

To be fair I don't know the details but I hope the person who committed the rape gets what's coming to them and if he didn't do it then I hope he is released ABOVE ALL I hope justice prevails. Either way though the Sikh community should really check who their alleged 'friends' are. The EDL are not in solidarity with the Sikhs because it's the right thing to do they are in solidarity with the Sikhs because it suits their purpose they get another front to attack the Muslims from and they also fight off calls of Nazi Xenophobe and racism.

The Muslim and Sikh community in the UK have had a patchy relationship in the last 20 years and Luton is no exception this news, if proved to be true, will not help build bridges between the two communities. I understand completely why the Sikhs protested outside the police station and I commend them for it. I don't think the English Defence League did it for the same reasons.

By the way Kevin Carroll with his head covered as a sign of respect made me LOL

Hmmm. So did the Police arrest this guy after the protest or had they already arrested and charged him?
From the interview on the link provided, the Sikh gentelmen said he spoke with the police and they assured him they were still conducting their enquiry, had arrested and charged one man who was still being remanded.

My take on this is as follows......

If the police had already arrested this guy, what was the need for the protest? The police are still conducting their inquiries. I can understand people protesting if nothing had been done but to me, this does not set a good precedence.

Is it now going to be the case that every time a Pakistani/Muslim person commits a crime that the masses are going to be up in arms? That people are going to gather outside the Police stations or Court rooms?

So far they have charged the guy with Common Assault.......so was there rape involved?

I too hope that Justice is served so we can establish the truth.

just to lighten the mood a little. I would like to draw your attention to Kevin Carroll aka HARDly convinSINGH in the black bandane. Then look closely at the rest of the picture.

Is it just me or are the Sikhs really excited about having support from the EDL.

Word on the street is that the sikh community is planning a peaceful demo through Bury Park and they want muslims to support them.

My understanding was the guy was arrested and then released but perhaps you are right UKM maybe it was halfway through an investigation my understanding the sikh community have not actually said they are in uproar over the fact he was a Muslim it is only the EEEDIOTs that are bringing up his religion.

So i guess they would be equally upset if a Sikh guy had raped a Sikh girl? *shrugs*

What a Muppet!!

Talk about jumping on the bandwagon. These guys make me sick. What the hell is he wearing a bandanna for? Does he think it Sikhifies him and he will be accepted as one of them? So how is this defending England?

so if a sikh man covers his head it its respectfully spiritual but if a muslim woman does it it is oppression?

Just an update on the situation Members of Luton Sikh Community have denounced the EDL Hijacking their protest

Quote:

My name is Jaswinder Singh Nagra, I’m one of the community elders. I personally did not welcome their (English Defence League) presence. Obviously they wanted to make hay of this because its their town. Some of the young boys were very angry and welcomed them but I’m not happy. Our values do not match.
