Salam to everyone. I've yet to work out if there are any other women here. I was given a card about this board at the anti-Islamophobia meeting at Crescent Hall on Saturday. Anyway, I know that I am in a minority on this board because I am a Christian. But this does not matter, because anyone practising a religion in the secularised UK of 2012 is in a minority! What I want to say about being a Christian is that means I am commanded to love my neighbour. Also, that Christianity is NOT western. It comes from the Middle East - so, if Islam is alien to English culture, so is Christianity! So, as for Islam=East, Christianity=West, let's forget it - I'm tired of hearing it. Let Luton lead the way to seeing off this 'Clash of Civilisations' idea. What I want to say to the EDL: I'm English, but you don't represent me. For the sake of the democratic values we hold so dear, our town is now buckling under your demonstrations on an annual basis. Shopkeepers and businesses have democratic rights too, but are forced to close on their busiest day in these difficult times. The cost of policing your events is also a huge burden on the public purse. Let Luton live and breathe - there are enough problems in today's Britain to deal with and we, the people, need to show the government the way because they don't seem to have much of a clue. Some of the greatest achievements in history have been brought about by the co-operation of Christians and Muslims. So let's make another piece of that history here in Luton. Let us be the town that leads us out of the mess, the crisis and the extremism. |

Hi Elisabeth, Welcome to the forum. There are a few other women on the forum so you are not alone. I think you make some excellent points in relation to co-operation. There is so much focus these days on 'difference' that we forget about all that we have in common.......not wanting the EDL in any town in England is definitely one of them. |

And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in a way that is best, except for those who commit injustice among them, and say, "We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you. And our God and your God is one; and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him." Surat Al-`Ankabūt [29:46] Follow me on Twitter | |
