Comet sat in the back seat, albeit awkwardly, of the yellow automobile; blushing lightly at Niddy's sister's comment, he stared down at his hands, carefully folded in his lap. The car didn't smell like smoke and gasoline, nor were there any suspicious figures around. No one was going to force them to crash into a ditch, no one was going to set fire to anything or anyone. Such things didn't happen in this city. He hadn't even caught wind of gangs and drug trades since coming to the city. But, he still had to bite back his nervousness. "Er...hello..." he said quietly, feeling somewhat uncomfortable. --- Raian's gaze grew ever the more intent as he looked at Majii, placing his other hand atop hers. "There are ways to escape from such people," he urged gently. "And truly, you must get away, before it is far too late for you...Such people are not right..." He wasn't quite sure just what he could say to her. He knew already that nothing he said could really fix anything; but perhaps a gentle reminder that she did not have to live such a way would provide some sort of...encouragement. He pondered reporting to the police; but perhaps that would be a betrayal of what trust she had placed in him by telling him such things. Torn between what to do, he simply watched her. It was not in his place to provide much more comfort than that. |

Chanti flipped her hair and looked over her shoulder at Comet, smirking a bit. "Hi..." she replied in a sarcastic monotone, snorting a little. "So, you must the dork that's always ogling my sister." Chanti drove away from the school, looking back at the road as if Comet didn't deserve anymore acknowledgment. Behind her, Niddy gave an irritated scoff, sinking into her seat. "Chanti!" Niddy groaned, lightly slapping her sister's headrest. She looked back over to Comet, turning a bit pink and trying to figure out what to say in apology. She didn't want Comet to think that she was badmouthing him behind his back or anything. Sure, she'd talked about Comet with her sister, but she never said anything rude. "I'm sorry Comet, my sister's just a loudmouthed ginger bitch." Niddy narrowed her eyebrows, directing her last words to the driver's seat. "Jesus, I was only kidding!" Chanti snorted. "Don't take anything I say personally, Comet; I'm not making fun of you. I'm only teasing the dwarf." Niddy sighed, dragging one hand down her face in embarrassment. "Niddy, he's kind of cute in that weird alternative kind of way! You two should totally..." "Nope." Niddy said flatly, and suddenly realized that she was digging an even deeper hole for herself. She glanced over at Comet again. "I...I mean, not that I don't think you're great and all I just...I mean, I'm sure that if..." she swallowed hard, suddenly interrupted by Chanti laughing at her from the front seat. "Dammit don't screw with me like that! Besides, Cole broke my heart last night." Niddy crossed her arms and legs, giving a dramatic huff. "Yeah, and you poisoned his food. So..." Chanti snickered. "Seriously, broke your heart? Oh my god, Niddy, you are like, so sixteen." "...That's it. I hope nobody votes for you." Niddy seethed. The car stopped at a red light, and all was silent for a moment. "Take that back, hobbit!" Chanti yelled. Niddy giggled. "What, did I like, curse you or something?" Niddy smiled. "Oooo, now all the votes for you will turn into votes for Charice Dewberry!" Niddy wiggled her fingers and put on an eerie voice, acting as if she was casting a spell. "Oh my god, Chanti, you are like, so seventeen. Gimme a break...let me cry over the boy..." Niddy stared down at her feet, wondering if her sister did have some sort of point. Maybe it was just a pointless high school relationship, and maybe it wasn't true love. But that still didn't stop it from hurting. ((Oh my god, Niddy, you really are like, so sixteen. It's pissing me off.)) _________ Majii sat in silence for a moment, waiting a moment for the tears to stop falling. With her free hand, she wiped a few away. She allowed herself to take comfort in Raian's touch, something she would normally feel guilty for. At least it meant there was at least one person that cared about her situation, even if he didn't really know her. "You must think that I'm a...really stupid girl." Majii finally said. If the student teacher was going to know her secret, she wasn't going to just let him assume that she was some battered woman stereotype. "But let me say my piece. I know I've got it bad...and I know I should leave, and I know that if I stay it's probably not going to stop...but..." Majii swallowed hard. "Does having a little bit of hope left that Harrison can get better make me dumb? He's more than just some batterer who beats me when I burn the toast or whatever. He's just...sick. He's in pain, I know it. And no matter what you might think, he does love me. Just...in his way." Majii gave a somewhat bitter smile. Harrison's way of loving someone sure was...interesting. When Harrison loved somebody, he simply wanted to possess them, and he wouldn't dare let them go. If that meant hurting them and marking his territory with bruises to trap them, he would do it. It wasn't just an action of anger, it was out of fear, fear of Majii leaving him. He was selfish in the way that he loved her, yes. But at least it was something real. "I want to be free of him, I really do. But he's...he's got me devoted to him in ways you'd never understand. I want more than anything to be in a normal relationship with a normal person, someone to be my...protector. Just...someone who would hold me when I need to be held, someone that would be gentle with me." Majii swallowed hard. "But I need to be there for him now. And just...what I've allowed myself to become...I don't know if I deserve that kind of love anymore." Majii shut her eyes tight, finally looking up at Raian again. "I will say this much. If you hurt him in any way, I will deny everything, and so will Harrison. You'll probably end up hurting me more in the long run by doing that. And if you try to bring this to the police...well you know how that ends. No matter how much it hurts me, I will protect Harrison in any way I can." Majii slipped her jacket back on, pulling away from Raian's hand for a moment. "Besides, Harrison would break you in half. It's no use...and it's none of your business. I'm a big girl, I can take care of myself. But thanks for giving a shit anyway." Majii zipped her jacket all the way up again, concealing her bruises once more. |

((Fffff haven't written in forever, this is gonna suck.)) Comet wasn't focused on the fact that he was riding in one of those steel death traps anymore, but he was still pretty nervous. Mostly because of the other two occupants of the car: the girl of his dreams and her rather brash older sister, and the bickering that ensued. You must be the dork that's always ogling my sister. The words clung to his head like a harsh slap in the face for a moment. Was that really what it looked like? He didn't think he was one to stare that much... He feared he came off as a bit creepy to her for that. He didn't realize he was being that obvious... Is that what Niddy told her older sister, that he wouldn't leave her alone? Come now, part of his conscience told himself as he stared down at the ground, blushing nervously. Maybe it was best to just leave them to their talking. Especially after Niddy seemed to inadverdently turn him down in some kind of abstract manner based on her sister's teasing; not that it came as much of a surprise, since he knew a freak like him had no chance with someone like her, but it still made things a bit more uncomfortable. Suddenly, he simply couldn't wait to get out of the car and away from their conversations, even if that meant just getting a tidbit of extra space between him and the other two. But he figured he needed to be a bit more patient than that; his nerves couldn't handle much strain. --- Raian wasn't sure what to do. Majii was practically quoting his big sister. What was he suppose to do about it? He could almost see her in the younger girl, staring back at him with unfocused eyes and mumbling refusals. Waiting until it was too late. Raian couldn't take this; it made him want to grab her shoulders and shake her until she had some sense knocked into her head. Do what he hadn't done for his sister. Suddenly craft up some sort of godly speech that would have her convinced never to make such a mistake in her life. Smile and give her a hug and show her that there's always a way that's better for all of them. In the end, to his own disappointment, he didn't do any of this. He turned around and walked away from her, away from reminders of he ruin of his childhood and the loss of a very important person and an opportunity to set things right for someone and do what he couldn't do for her. He just stared at the ground, his back to her. He couldn't look anymore. "Very well," he bit out, harsher than he anticipated. "Let yourself believe that and see where it takes you. There is no convincing somebody who has their mind set. There was no convincing her, after all. No convincing you either." He pointed to the door. "Go along. See where the path takes you. Perhaps you will be marginally better off than she was." |

Niddy's heart stopped when she saw the look on Comet's face. Of course, now she'd managed to make one of the few people that didn't hate her feel like crap. She cursed herself for putting her foot in her mouth again and tried to figure out how to make things right. Of course, she couldn't do it now, with Chanti in the car. If she tried to mutter any sort of awkward apology, or started explaining herself to Comet, then Chanti would cut in and ruin her efforts and humiliate her once more. Finally, Chanti pulled into their driveway, which at least made Niddy stop worrying about Comet's fear of cars. She bit her lip and shut her eyes tight, waiting a moment before unfastening her seat belt and stepping out of the car. "Well...here we are." she said, trying to brighten up her tone a little bit. The house was a typical two-story suburban home, complete with a lawn as bright a green as Comet's hair and a white picket fence. In the past couple of years, her father had worked his way up through the tiers of his company, and the family ended up in the upper middle class. It was safe to say that Niddy had become fairly spoiled. She twirled back around to face Comet again after Chanti began marching up the steps of the house. "Look...Comet, I...I know I must look like a real jerk right now, but I swear I never said anything like that to Chanti. She just likes to stretch the truth a bit. I mean...that's not to say I didn't...mention you, I just...God I'm sorry..." Niddy hoped Comet wouldn't hate her after everything Chanti said. In the end, she supposed it was all her fault anyway. She was the one that basically told Comet that she wasn't interested, and if she'd just gone over to his place and blew off Chanti none of this would have ever happened. _______________ Majii gathered her things, fully prepared to leave in a huff and forget the conversation ever happened. She gripped the handle of her violin case tight and slung her backpack on her shoulder, half-storming towards the door. The minute she reached for the handle, however, a chill up her spine froze her in place. She felt the cold stab of guilt in her stomach, and her whole body shook, willing her to stay. What little conscious she had left at that point made her wonder, what would Raian do if she turned up dead? Apparently he'd failed to save someone in her situation before, and maybe her sudden appearance in his life was an opportunity for him to make up for that. There had to be some way for her to protect Harrison and still save Raian from that guilt. No, that was rediculous....she barely even knew him! His past wasn't any of her business, and her relationship with Harrison wasn't his. Still, he was the first person in a long time to show her any sort of compassion...she could at least try to do the same for him, convince him that somehow, he was saving her. Or maybe she just couldn't deny the part of her that wanted to be saved. Either way, she at least had to know his story first. "...Wait....Mr. Go..." she said in a gentle whisper. She turned back around and hesitantly approached him. "I've....I've told you almost everything. Can you please...at least tell me who she is? Majii delicately set her hand on Raian's shoulder. "I mean...you have to at least understand that I can't just drop everything and leave him because some guy I hardly even know told me to. But...maybe...maybe if you didn't just...give up on me...and if I could just understand why you care so much..." she let out a staggered breath, hardly believing the words that were coming out of her mouth. "I might find the strength to...fix this somehow. Save him without putting him behind bars..." |

Comet smiled softly. Niddy had a nice home; it reminded him a bit of what his family had lived in beforethe...incident, and it was a pleasant change from the flashiness of the upper class city life that he'd gotten used to by living amidst a big-name family. He was never fond of huge displays of wealth as one who was worth little monetary value himself. He was just as quick to dismiss the new atmosphere as his attention shifted back to Niddy. "It's okay..." he mumbled quietly, eye focused on the ground. He wasn't quite sure if she was being particularly honest with him or if she was just trying to make up for her sister's bluntness. But she was Niddy, so it didn't really matter. At least she was willing to speak to him, even if she secretly found him creepy and wasn't all that interested in him. "Sisters, huh..." he continued conversationally. "I know what you mean. I have a brother...well, sort of, in a way." Not really related, he added to himself. "He does the same kind of things to me. Teasing and stuff." He smiled sheepishly. --- Raian kept his face turned away from Majii. "You sound so much like her, saying those things..." he repeated. "She would tell the same kind of tales and make the same decisions. Then she disappeared." He frowned solemnly. "We found her in the lake a week later. Drowned. The police say it was suicide, but we all knew just who paid their payckecks and convinced them to say so. We weren't so stupid." He set his jaw stiffly and held onto the edge of the table, face still turned toward the wall. "That girl was my big sister," he finished quietly. "And now she's dead. The last time I saw her was almost ten years ago." He shut his eyes. He didn't like telling that story to anyone, but somehow he felt it would help her. Maybe if she knew what he was talking about and knew that he understood what was happening, just a little, then it could give her the drive to find help. "I can't let that happen to those I know again. You see where it got me last time, doing nothing..." He sighed. ((short but I'm freaking TIRED.)) |

Niddy could tell that Comet wasn't quite convinced of her honesty, but perhaps once they were working and Chanti wasn't around to cut in and ruin her chances at redemption, she would be able to elaborate on what she really said to her sister about Comet. Niddy suddenly found herself wondering why she cared so much about Comet's impression of her. It was obvious that he was hopelessly infatuated, and a few unkind words might not have changed that. Perhaps she was being paranoid because she actually cared about his feelings rather than what he thought of her. It was an unfamiliar concept to her; she'd spent so much of her life trying to get people to like her. With Comet, she didn't even have to try. "Heh...yeah..." Niddy replied with a smile. "Chanti can be a real pain in the ass, but I still love her. I guess it's the same with anyone else..." Niddy sighed, thinking of the times that Chanti had bullied and badgered her, and then apologized later. Chanti figured she could get away with it since she was her sister, but when someone like Majii or Charice teased her, she was still quick to come to her defense. "Anyway, we should probably go inside. Just a fair warning, my mom's a little...weird. She's one of those parents that tries to look cool whenever any of my friends comes over..." Niddy slung her backpack over her shoulder and walked up the front steps, waiting on Comet follow. ____________ Majii's heart lurched at every word of Raian's story. She wanted to wrap her arms around him, rest her head on his shoulder and assure him that the same wouldn't happen to her, but instead, she pulled her hand away and hugged herself tightly. "God..." she whispered. "I-I'm so sorry...I know what it's like, to lose someone that close to you." Majii slipped past Raian and leaned against the white board, trying to get a better look at his face. "My mom was killed by a drunk driver five years ago...since my dad travels a lot for work that pretty much left me taking care of both of my little brothers..." Majii gave a hollow laugh. "I guess that's why I'm still alive now. If I didn't have them..." she didn't bother finishing the sentence, and stared down at the floor in silent contemplation. If she decided to go home and take her life that very day, then she would end up leaving Nor and Ulrich in the exact same position as Raian. Nor was too young to understand the intricacies of her relationship with Harrison, but Ulrich had tried to convince her to leave before. With the grief that Ulrich already had to deal with, it would be cruel to let him suffer through her death as well. "But...but the situation really is different, in at least once sense." Majii said. "Guys who hit girls do it for different reasons...and girls react differently, too...Point is, Harrison would never kill me. You can argue all you want, but I can't think of a single scenario where he would take it that far." Majii bit her lip, unsure of what to say to elaborate. She didn't want to look like she was continuing to deflect all of Raian's arguments, because she really wasn't. "That's not to say that I'm not in any...danger. I'm not her, Mr. Go. And Harrison isn't him. And if I turn up dead...it won't be because he murdered me. He's more...careful then that." Majii shuddered at the truth of her own words. She was shocked that Harrison had even given her a black eye; normally he avoided her face. "It'll be because I killed myself. Getting out of this...might not stop that. And that's what scares me the most..." Majii could feel tears building up again, but this time she held her breath and held them back. "Even if I'm free I won't be free. Y'know, five years from now I could be sitting in my room, feeling his hands on me, feeling my insides all...coiled up and cold...smelling him, thinking of how disgusting he's managed to make me feel...and I could decide then and there to fucking end it..." A few tears escaped, and Majii instantly dried them, trying her hardest not to look so weak again. "You might rescue me from another black eye or fat lip...from a few bruises...and part of me really, really wants to be saved. But...nobody can ever save me from that. It's so terrifying, being this...ticking time bomb." |

Comet grinned andfollowed suit, stumbling slightly on the stairs but quickly recovering with an apologetic look. Most people didn't quite appreciate clumsiness; he wasn't sure if stumbling about was a great way to start off his sort-of friendship with Niddy either. Maybe she didn't mind; he couldn't count how many times a day he tripped, fell, dropped things, and bumped into things a day. All he knew was that he owed Rellik (and a few other people too) a decent enough amount of money for damages at home. Well, maybe he could play it cool and she wouldn't notice (or care) that he had two left feet. Or maybe she would figure it was from his little impairment. Having half the normal field of vision did lead to a few problems, after all, even if he'd more or less gotten used to it. He laughed quietly at Niddy's description of her mother's behavior. "I'm sure that's interesting," he commented lightly. He couldn't help but feel that little lonely pang in his heart at the mention of her family; sometimes he wondered, had his been around, would they be the same way? He didn't linger on it. It was not very polite of him to morph into a pile of depressive goo on her doorstep. Instead, he focused a bit on his new family; he didn't know much about the Ach'tsun family, even if he was practically a part of it; but what he knew of Rellik's mom and dad was that they were overly formal to him even if they had announced him a family member, they didn't really try to 'play it cool,' and they attracted media officials. His mom was nice, though. She insisted he call her 'mother.' "Yeah...er, my family..." he stumbled quietly, "they aren't really into...trying to be cool and stuff. They would probably call you 'miss' and offer you a cup of tea." He laughed. ((I presume Niddy doesn't know about Clumsy-Ass's living arrangements? I figured his whole situation and his adoptive family would be pretty much under the radar, because Papa Ach'tsun isn't the charity loving type.)) --- Raian fixed Majii with a dim gaze. "Those kind of men are unstable. I don't care if you think he's different. She thought her boyfriend was too. Told me up until the day she disappeared that he would never go that far, and then she tried to leave him and...well, look where that got us." He narrowed his eyes a little. He simply could not understand what was going through Majii's mind to keep her attached to such a man; did she not realize how unstable those types were, or the sort of danger she was in? The only rightful place for such violent men was in the grave, in his mind, but prisons sufficed well too. He glanced at the clock, then at the door. "You should probably be going, he advised a bit more formally, if not sharply. "After all, you have no business hearing my grumbling if it's not going to be making any difference. I bid you a good afternoon." He nodded once and went to gather his notebook. Whether or not she were leaving, he decided that he was. It was time to go home and try not to focus on this girl's life. Best not to get too involved. ((fff I'm starting to miss Solomon and his asshole self. Maybe I'll find an excuse to drag him in for five minutes' time.)) |

((I'm flip flopping the format because I'm enjoying the Majii/Raian half of this more than the Comet/Niddy half. And no, Niddy don't know jack shit about Comet.)) Majii wiped her remaining tears and nodded at Raian's words, attempting to indicate at least some level of understanding. She knew full well that Harrison was insane, and that was part of the reason she stayed. She was being far too compassionate for her own good, but when she saw the agony in his eyes, she wanted nothing more than to comprehend his inner turmoil to its full extent, and help him. He'd only opened up to her enough for her to pick up on his abnormalities, but he would never outright admit that he was crazy. At the mention of any sort of psychiatric help, even simple therapy, he went ballistic. But she knew that whenever he hit her or anybody else, and with every cruel word, that the good part of him was still inside somewhere, begging to get out and suffering complete and unending remorse for his actions. "I know he's unstable. It...hurts how much I know about him. Just seeing the pain in his eyes, and knowing how much he needs help..." Majii swallowed hard. "I'm not stupid. I don't just stay because I'm in denial, or because my love is clouding my perception of his flaws...I stay because he's hurting so, so much. The day I convince him to get help will be the day that I'm gone for good. Please, please trust me when I say he needs a doctor...not a jail." Majii backed away towards the door, wondering what else she could possibly say to at least give the student teacher some form of comfort. She knew she'd managed to piss him off by not immediately heeding his words, but she needed to give at least some indication that he was helping. After all, she didn't want him to just abandon her. He was the only one that knew of the true extent of the abuse, and she was going to need someone like that to trust if the situation was exacerbated by any sort of change on her part. If she managed to find the strength to just leave, or if she finally convinced Harrison that he needed help, or even if the relationship spiraled completely out of control...she needed someone to protect her from both herself and Harrison. She opened the door with one hand behind her, keeping a wary gaze on Raian. "One more thing..." she finally spoke again, the strength in her voice returning. "Don't think you haven't helped me at all just because I'm not leaving. I need someone who knows..." Majii glanced over to the wall, blushing a bit in embarrassment of her own helplessness. "And you might have saved me from myself...at least for today. After all...my brothers don't deserve my death...and you didn't deserve hers." With that, Majii left the room and walked down the hall towards the exit, hoping with all her heart that Harrison was already gone. _________ Niddy held back a giggle at Comet's clumsiness; being temporarily blinded by her eyepatch had taken its toll on her coordination as well. It made her sad though, to think for too long about the fact that her bandages were coming off within a week, but Comet was most likely stuck in that position for the rest of his life. She'd never really heard anyone badmouthing him or bullying him besides the odd rumor as to how he lost his eye, but she supposed that was because of how quiet he was. He stayed out of most people's business, therefore he wasn't really a fun target for such cruelty. She opened the door and stepped inside, dropping her backpack and purse on a decorative bench in the foyer. "You can leave your stuff there for now." she said politely. She untied her ribbon and let her hair down, making it poof out a bit uneven at the top. "Oh, and take your shoes off. My stepdad's really weird about walking around on the carpet in shoes." with that she took hers off and tucked them underneath the same bench, revealing her panda socks. According to uniform, she was supposed to wear plain white ones, but she didn't really have any socks that had no fun pattern or design on them. Almost on cue, Niddy's mother glided into the room with a bright smile on her face. She looked like Niddy's clone, only slightly taller with shorter hair and a few indications of aging in her face. Niddy noted that she never really looked all that different from when she was little, and hoped that she would be so lucky and be able to age as gracefully. "Hi! Chanti said Niddy brought home a friend!" Juliann exclaimed in her usual overexcited tone. Niddy suppressed a groan. She loved her mother, but she was always scared that she would scare off all of her friends. Niddy noticed her mother was dressed a bit more casually than usual, and that she was also donning an old apron covered in a soft yellow paint. "Don't mind me, today's my day off and I got bored so I decided I would paint the upstairs bathroom, so I'm less than gorgeous." Juliann told the story with quick, almost frantic words, talking with her hands the entire time. Niddy shrugged and smirked a bit, realizing she didn't have much room to complain. Her mother's eccentricities had become her own over the years. Suddenly she realized that if there was paint drying in the master bath, that meant she was stuck sharing the other one with her parents. "But..." Niddy protested, before her mother shushed her. "Oh relax. A day or two you'll have to share, stop making everything a hill to die on." Niddy's mother teased, walking back into the living room. "There's snacks and stuff in the kitchen, take whatever you want, make yourself at home!" Juliann called over her shoulder, before she suddenly stopped herself. "Oh yeah, what's your name, honey? You can just call me Miss Annie. Niddy, did you tell him about the shoes thing?" "Yes, mother..." Niddy groaned, hoping that her mother hadn't made her look too lame. |

((It's the other way around for me, derp. Raian is a stubborn butthole hero type with neurotic tendencies and a comic book personalty. Comet's just Comet and therefore fun.)) Raian tried not to dwell on his new stressful problems, instead concentrating on leaving the classroom and making sure he had everything. If he got too involved with the Majii situation, he feared he would do something rash. He wasn't supposed to see situations like his sister's in America; kids were supposed to be kids, and even if such problems rose, they would just as quickly go away because America was safe. There may have been more gun crimes and violence cases, but somehow it felt like people would view domestic violence differently. The fair trials, the sciences for tracking down killers, the special identifying factors of a dangerous relationship that kids got as a part of their classload... The tales must have been wrong. People, no matter where they lived, were naturally inclined to violence. They had the same issues. Raian almost didn't notice as he nearly bumped into someone inthe hallway, snapping briefly into focus. For a second, he thouh he'd run into a relative of Majii's, examining his assailant's face briefly; despite the tanness and general demure, he seemed like he could be related to the girl. They had the same cheekbones, and their hair texture was alike... He recalled the fellow from somewhere; the orchestra director, perhaps? But before he could examine any further, the older fellow fixed him with a teal-green glare and kept walking, blatantly ignoring him. He brushed it off as coincidence; the two just looked a bit alike in some kind of odd way. They carried themselves completely differently, though; somehow, he couldn't picture Majii to have any relation to such a fellow. He'd ask, but he figured it's be intruding, and the guy probably wouldn't know what he was talking about. So, he left it and went back to counting his woes and trying to crack the case that was what to do with his new discoveries in Majii's life. ((ugh Raian, you buttmunch... Solomon's appearance was so raaaandom too, but it just has to happen in the name of plot progression so Dumbass can EVENTUALLY make that link between the two. Maybe switch to Solo-mode a bit for a bit of fun with that, if anything just to get him enough involved in the situation to know that something's up?)) --- Comet slipped off his shoes quickly, giggling lightly at Niddy's panda socks. They were cute; he thought it was befitting of her. She was cute too, after all. He looked shyly up at Niddy's mother, marveling at their likeness. Somehow, he could picture her looking like that some day, living a comfortable life and painting bathrooms and raising a bunch of cute little children-- He stopped there before he could end up in some kind of wild Comet not-gonna-happen-dream-world. "Er...nice to meet you, Miss Annie," he stammered. "My name is Comet...I'm just here to work with Niddy on a project, yeah...you have a very nice home." He redirected his gaze back to the ground, feeling slightly awkward. He never quite felt like he fit in among such a quaint family; it reminded him a lot of his own family before the accident, in a good way, but times since then had been very different and somehow he felt like anywhere he went would make him stick out. Perhaps it was why he tried not to get noticed; if he did, he would probably attract too much attention and raise more questions than what was good. He thought it a bit ironic. He didn't want to be under any sort of public scrutiny yet there he was, at the Niddy Estaria's house. He wondered if anyone would find out, and what they would have to say about it. He prayed it wasn't bad for her reputation at all, knowing how people talked even about simply visiting to work on a group project. Anything could be skwered by school gossips; suddenly, he was concerned that he could be doing a harm to Niddy's reputation simply by existing. That just made him feel all the more meek and shy. |

A Pimp Named Slickback
|
Majii fell out of focus of her surroundings, unable to fully concentrate with Raian running through her mind. She cursed herself for deciding to care about him all of sudden, or at least enough to not want him to relive his horrible experience with his sister. Even if she was sure that Harrison would never kill her, the only way for her to truly escape would be suicide, which would be just as hard on him and even more so on her family. She wished there was some way to thank him for somehow, in a roundabout way, talking her out of it temporarily. "Be still my beating heart..." she whispered to herself, giving a sarcastic smile. She truly hated it, not being in control of her own emotions. She didn't think it naive to want so badly to help Harrison, because even though she showed him tremendous amounts of mercy and grace she still saw his flaws ever so clearly painted on his face. Now that the student teacher had involved himself, there was no possible way she could bring herself to make him suffer either. Her own heart was setting her up for disaster. In a perfect world, she could simply convince Harrison to seek psychiatric help, he would take some happy pills and recover and she could have a normal relationship, and then maybe Raian would realize he didn't have to worry about her. Of course, Harrison wouldn't help himself and Raian was too stubborn not to fear for her even if her boyfriend did seek help. In the end, she was even more trapped than ever before. Suddenly, Majii felt a hand firmly gripping her shoulder, and before she even had time to start in surprise she was spun around. She came face to face with Harrison, and she gave a long, tired sigh. She figured he wasn't going to wait up for her so long and she could at least be able to go home and think. Harrison smiled down at her, a smile that seemed like a malformed hybrid of a smirk and a grimace. "I've been waiting on you, Dovey..." he said gently, a hint of strain in his voice. "You weren't just going to walk home, were you?" Yes, Majii answered in her head. But if she gave any sort of protest now, it would simply worsen her situation. Instead, she gave in, and in the confusion she suffered she comforted herself with the cause of it all, leaning her head on Harrison's chest. "I didn't think you'd wait so long...I told you I would be in detention." Majii sighed, wrapping her arms weakly around his waist and attempting to suppress a shudder. Harrison held onto her much more tightly and kissed the top of her head with a chuckle. "Little delinquent, you...well I figured you wouldn't be too happy to see me after yesterday." The feigned kindness in Harrison's voice faded and his tone grew dark. Instead of admitting his sins aloud, he simply pulled himself away from her a bit and leaned down to kiss her bruised eye. Majii winced at the memory and his touch, attempting to block it out once more. "I knew I'd be waiting a while, so I actually went and got you something." from his pocket, Harrison pulled out a medium sized velvet box topped with a red ribbon and handed it to Majii. She smiled softly and flipped it open, revealing a shining gold charm bracelet. Harrison took the box back from her and pulled out the bracelet and snapped it around Majii's wrist. From the end hung two wing-shaped charms, the ends bejewled with small topaz gemstones. Majii's smile grew wider. "They had a silver one, but I figured the gold would match your eyes." "Harrison, it's beautiful...how'd you afford this?" Majii said in awe. "You're beautiful." Harrison replied, kissing Majii's forehead. "I'd been saving up to get you something nice, and I figured that now would be as good a time as any considering..." Majii wrapped her arms around Harrison's neck and silenced him with a kiss. She truly did love the bracelet, but it hurt knowing that it was some sorry apology gift. It was almost funny in a sick sort of way, the way Harrison's mind worked. She wondered about his thought process. Sorry I raped you, here's something shiny. The initial surprise faded from her expression quickly once she started thinking about his motives. The hurt and fear returned to her eyes just as quickly as it had vanished, and she distanced herself once more. Harrison read her expression well and stared down at her with what seemed to be some sort of disappointment. "Majii, please tell me you still love me....please...I'm trying, I am, but you're just so..." Majii cut Harrison off once more, shushing him gently and holding him tight. The most she could do was just pretend that yesterday never happened, for his sake. ((At least he didn't get her a cake with "Sorry I raped you" frosted on it. Like, I don't know where the fuck he's going with this approach, I really don't. And maybe Solomon sees what's going on or something? >___>)) ____________ Niddy awkwardly marched into the living room with her hands behind her back, facing away from Comet and mouthing a few words to her mother with an urgent expression on her face. She knew exactly what her mom was about to do, the same thing she did to every boy that she or Chanti brought home, and the most she could do was silently beg her mother not to humiliate her. When she asked her father about boys and marriage when she was a little girl, the man simply coughed and turned away, saying he'd tell her when she was thirty. When Niddy asked the same sort of question to her mother, she took her downtown to a coffeehouse and asked all the male baristas and hipsters camping out with guitars if they wanted to marry her. In reply to her pleading, Julianne simply smirked and approached Comet once more and blushed prematurely. "Nice to meet you, too Comet...he's adorable, Niddy, don't poison this one!" Juliann exclaimed ecstatically. "Too soon, mother...." Niddy gave a giggle with an urgent undertone, still begging her mother to quit before she was completely mortified. "Oh relax, you've gotta move on if you're going to give me cute green haired grandchildren!" Juliann replied in an awkward New York accent, dismissing Niddy's comment with a wave of her hand. She turned back to Comet and gave him a little wink. "I'm just teasing, honey. Oh, you kids keep me young. God love ya." Niddy slammed her hand to her face as Juliann danced back to the kitchen. "I'm baking; come down here later and get some cake!" "...What's the occasion?" Niddy asked, still wallowing in her own humiliation. "It's Friday, Happy Friday, kids!" Juliann called back. Niddy gave an awkward cough and turned her attention back to Comet. "...Well...then..." she said, still blushing bright pink. "We should...go upstairs and...g-get to work...I guess." |
