Ok, I have a question that's been nagging at me for a while regarding strafe and SoA. Here's what I know for sure: SoA is better at higher level monsters because it's a constant stream of arrows where strafe is four at a time. Strafe seems better at lower level monsters because of the lack of charge time. Here's my question now: when does it become better to use strafe instead of SoA to kill monster X and vice versa? |

Well, lv 10 Sharp Eyes gives you enough of a Critical chance to have the constant stream of arrows deal more damage than Strafe. I believe its the same for lv 10 SoA vs. Strafe. Sharp Eyes affects SoA more than any other skill, because its a huge chance of criticals. |

I didn't phrase the question right. I should have asked: When does x number of strafes = y seconds of SoA (including charge time here)? |

it depends....in most cases never. If i understand what you are asking. but if you want to know when to use Strafe or SoA. From what I observe it falls into these two categories. 1: You can ohko the monster. If you can ohko the monster its more effcient and faster to use Strafe. Any hit higher than that and SoA is the better skill to use. Unless, you are doing a quest or training on weak monsters, almost all the monsters that you will train on in 4th job will most likely take more than 3 hits to kill. 2: Your room for mobility. In some boss battles or monsters that move very fast, you are more susecptiable to getting hit by death blow or in some cases barely getting a shot off, as you spend more time minutely charging and cooling, which can be dangerous. Its not THAT much of a nag where you would just have to go pure out with Strafe in those situations, but its a convient option. That is also why the trend of Mortal Blow has increased, as MB would decrease the chances of this event from happening. |

Using Level 9 Storm;
x is number of Strafes to kill a monster. Time is amount of time it takes, neglecting the unmeasureable wind up time of Strafe. Strafe is the Average % damage dealt Time is the amount of time Storm of Arrows is actually shooting during this. 6.0, 7.0, etc. are the number of arrows actually shot by Storm. sps is the average damage dealt by level 1 Storm. Formulas... Time = x * 60 / 84 Strafe_Damage = x * 560 Storm_Time = Time - 0.98 Storm_Shots = Storm Time * shots_per_second Storm_Damage = Storm_Shots * (90 + level + 10 * [level \ 10]) [level \ 10] is Integer division. Only whole numbers exist in Integer division. 9 / 10 is 0. You don't round up, you round down. I haven't a clue about how to factor in Sharp Eyes, but without it, Storm of Arrows won't be beating Strafe for a while. If I ever have the spare time, I'll write a program to calculate this for me and output an entire table from level 1 to 30 Storm, unless someone here knows how to do that and wants to instead. Sharp Eyes would make the difference dramatically larger. I've heard the magic number is level 7 Storm with 9 SE or something like that. |

I get it. Basically, without Sharp Eyes, it's better to use Strafe because Strafe has higher average damage. |

Sharp Eyes (as we know it) is: (Skill %) + (1st job critical + Sharp eyes crit +100) So maxed sharp eyes and 1st job crit is +340% damage per arrow For Peirce: (Skill%)*1.18^(n-1)+(critcal %)*1.18^(n-1) And don't use a program, here on the AGF you gotta do it on a calculator than make the table yourself =P |
