Well I'd be more willing to accept the system if we took away any caps for the calculations. To me, this seems to be a punishment for older nations. That also helps us by preventing us from all hitting a cap one day. Even if we kept it, we'd still be changing the cap every so often as the game progresses because of population and defense spending increase. |

I think what we may have to do is end up just giving every nation fixed stats on population and military size. No fancy formulas or charts, just numbers that are realistic and don't change contstantly. |

That sounds really realistic to me - it takes years for a country to do something with its armed forces. They should be rather static - unless if destroyed, that is. |

Sounds reasonable. How do we go about doing that? Just keep everyone at the military budget they have now and have everyone chose there populations?

If everyone agrees I'll run the chart one last time and those values would be the "fixed" value for our military. from there on, any growth or reduction shall be done trough RP. what you think? I would be running the numbers on Sunday at most |

I’ve come up with a system that will work really well. This is basically what we did in the “first generation” of Baradoz, and it worked rather well. These numbers still would require some updating, but minimal at that. I think a bi-monthly update would do fine, and I am willing to do that myself. Everyone will be tasked with creating a population and coming up with the percent of their population in the military. I'll do the rest of the work. Here is an example:
*This number is very important, but can also largely vary between RL nations. If you have conscription, this number may be higher, and if you’re all volunteer, this number will be lower. However you must take into consideration the effect these decisions have on your military. Conscripts are not very good soldiers. Volunteers are. And this can make a large difference on the battlefield. Also you need to take into consideration your ability to arm and train these soldiers, which is directly related to your defense budget. If you have a tiny defense budget, but are determined to enforce a massive draft policy, you may find that your soldiers are armed with wooden clubs instead of main battle tanks. I guess I will be taking what RP populations everyone would like for their nation to have below. I know that some nations have hinted at their size, but I would like official numbers now. PLEASE BE REALISTIC. I will say something if I find your numbers outrageous, and others are free to voice their concerns. Also you must consider the amount of land that you have and how many people that would accommodate. Obviously a nation of Vulkland’s size can’t have a population of 70,000,000. (FYI, my numbers would give me a population a bit larger than RL Germany’s) Include in your response your desired RP population, and percentage of population in military. Can we change these if RP calls for it? i.e if a militant dictatorship overthrows the government or something. |

Alright this plan sounds pretty good and easily sustainible. This seemed to work well in the old Baradoz and I see no reason it shouldn't do fine here as well. Right now I will say RP population will be 173 million people living in the Empire and its protectorates, and total percentage of population in the military will be 2.0% however a 1/4 of the military will be made up of mercenaries which don't show up in the percentage. I can only give you a population figure now, as I'm totally oblivious regarding all things military:
Those are the RL figures. Now, as the demographics of Eastern Europe are disastrous, with populations dropping constantly, and as I picture Neoplanta as a bit more lively, I'd put our population at 50-55 million. That is without the Protectorate of Hellas, I take they might have some 15 million people with Greece, Albania, and Macedonia, maybe 20. We could sustain a lot more, I suppose, but that would be overcrowded. |
