Commodore Ramius stepped off the SH-60J onto the deck of the GIS Venator. Prior to leaving the Ragnar Naval Base, he and Admiral Farenheights formulated a plan. The 3rd Fleet's submarines would continue to monitor the island while the Venator and the Saber would attack the pirate base in Punjab, the Acclimator and the Scimitar would attack the base in Trans-Orient, and the marines aboard the Victory would board the merchant ship while the Victory jammed it's communications. The IIS agents would continue their investigation on the island and attempt to locate any lists of customers or freight lists. Ramius went straight to the bridge and informed his XO what the plan was. An hour later a Ka-27 helicopter from the Acclimator arrived to pick up a squad of Army solders and a Special Forces fireteam for their part of the attack. Three hours later the ships were all in position. The ship's helicopters had transported the fireteams to hear the caves where they found what appeared to be a smaller cave leading underground. The teams were to infiltrate their assigned bases. neutralize and defenses and secure the base. Both units had an Army platoon as back up on stand by. Saber and Scimitar would be ready to intercept any ships that attempted to flee. The operation began and Ramius was in the Venator's CIC listening to the incoming reports. "Commodore, Fireteam Bravo reports successful infiltration, confirmed pirate base." Bravo had deployed from the Acclimator and was infiltrating the base in Trans-Orient. "Able reports successful infiltration" another reported. Both teams had reported that the bases were large underground docks carved into the cliffs and fjords. Large enough to hold two merchant ships or a cruise liner. Ramius continued to listen to the myriad of reports, reports of eliminating Tangos, securing intel, sabotaging the captured merchant ships, and of finding and securing their crews. Then a report came in from the marines boarding the merchant ship. Apparently the captured merchant ships were used to capture other ships far from shore, but most importantly, a lead on the Celebration and the whereabouts of it's passengers. First the ship had been taken to the base that Abel was now infiltrating and the women and children were off loaded, while the men remained. Then the ship was taken to another, as of yet undiscovered base in Trans-Orient, to be converted into an over sized pleasure yacht for a client unknown to the pirate captain. The men from the Celebration were pressed into providing the manual labor to convert the ship. The children and the women were sent to Nova Zambia on separate ships likely for purposes that made Ramius's skin crawl, thankfully however all the children from the Celebration were on this ship as well a many of the women. "Order the marines to set course for Edo (the provincial capital of Ikaruga) and for the Victory to escort the ship to port. "Commodore, urgent transmission from IIS." one of the ship's crew said. "Put it though..." Ramius said and read the report as it printed out. Commodore Ramius, Copied freight manifest... Located all remaining passengers of Celebration... Identified the buyers of those passengers who have been auctioned off... Identified buyer of the Celebration... Obtained map with incomplete list of pirate bases in the south east... Obtained list of main pirate groups... End transmission... Alright now we're getting somewhere. "Order the fireteams to commandeer a merchant ship each and load all the prisoners and captured pirates and set course for Edo. Once the ships are away, demo the bases. Scimitar will escort Bravo's ship, while Saber will escort Abel's. Venator is to set course for the location of the pirate base collected from the Victory." |

Admiral Farenheights was reading though several reports when there was a knock at his door. "Enter..." A liutenant walked in carrying a large yellow envelope. "Reports from the IIS, sir." "Just leave it there..." the Admiral said pointing to an empty spot on his cluttered desk. A moment later he took the envelope and read the report. Admiral Farenheights, Located freight manifests from island... Identified the merchant ship carrying off the hostages who have been auctioned off... Identified the merchant ships itinerary, first destination Schwannburg... Recommend interception by 3rd Fleet... End Transmission... Farenheights thought about the recommendation for a moment. Anything usual at Schwannburg Port may scare them off... He turned to his computer and brought up the locations of the Fleet's submarines, and compared it to the route the ship would be taking. The route would take them right between the GIS Saberfish and the GIS Tigershark. The submarines themselves didn't have enough marines on board to form a boarding party though, and to order them to hold position may result in the pirates deciding to kill off the hostages. "Ramius would be in the middle of his operation right now, and the Imperator is still a bit far from there." Farenheights ordered the two subs to shadow the ship, and ordered a platoon of marines at the base to prepare for a boarding operation. They would be transported to the ship via a V-22 Osprey at night, and have orders to commandeer the ship. |

Message for the Grangale Ministry of Defense from the Dutch Ministry of Defense ~ Concerning Base at Nova Zembla CLASSIFIED The Royal Dutch Navy have noticed your presence in the proximity of Nova Zembla. We are positive the camp is indeed a huge trading post for goods and maybe even people. Your claim that people in the Seven United Provinces have been buying slaves is big. Can you help us on this matter by providing us with as much information as possible? Trafficking is unacceptable and heavy measurements must be taken. At this moment we will not approach any ship, because we might scare them off or cause greater harm. Our main goal is gathering intel on what might be the largest illegal trading network in history. We conclude this message with a stern warning, because there is an abundance of nuclear waste located at the island of Nova Zembla. In the years prior to our presence the island has been used as a nuclear dump by some nations. This is the reason the island became a uninhabited Dutch protectorate a few decades ago. In fear of misuse by terrorists the nuclear waste was kept top-secret, only known by a few. Therefore it is very unlikely that the pirates are aware of their political position, however we can not be sure at this moment. However, if they do know the world is in grave danger. If the waste gets spilled in the sea the disaster is incalculable. CLASSIFIED |

TO: Dutch Ministry of Defense FROM: Imperial Intelligence Service of the Grangale Empire SUBJECT: Nova Zembla Classified Attached to this message is a copy of records concerning the purchase of slaves from persons inside the SUP. We believe these persons to be involved with organized crime. Fortunately we have intercepted the ship carrying the hostages and are preparing a boarding party to seize control of the ship and rescue the hostages. As promised here is what we have learned regarding this black market trading post. * The outpost appears to be known as the Northern Outpost. We have intercepted transmissions from suspect ships referring to this "Northern Outpost." * There are large stockpiles of weapons, mostly small arms of all makes. However there are a few tanks and APCs as well as small planes and helicopters, all with military markings painted over, making it impossible to determine their origins. * There are large stockpiles of stolen goods ranging from electronics to machinery. * There are machinery and equipment present to create bootleg copies of these merchandise. * Human trafficking appears to be a more recent undertaking and appears to be the motive behind the hijacking of the Celebration. * Organized crime from both our nations appear involved as known Grangalian criminals have been sited on the island as well as criminals from the SUP, Pekhora, Kazakia, Outer Mongolia, Trans-Orient, and Punjab. * It does not yet appear that the criminals are aware of the nuclear material on the island, we have yet to find any HazMat equipment or heard anything regarding them during the auctions. * Leadership does not appear to be vested in one person, instead it appears that the pirates operate in clans and cooperate with organized criminal elements. * This network at the very least extends from Nova Zembla to Punjab. We suspect that the government of Trans-Orient, or at least elements of it, is involved somehow, although we are still seeking intel that can verify this suspicion. Currently the Imperial Navy has orders to scan or inspect all ships from Trans-Orient traveling though Grangalian territorial waters. * In light of the 4th Fleet's raids it does not yet appear that the criminals on the island suspect that our governments are on to them one way or the other. Currently we feel that any public statements regarding any specific information at this point in time may be premature and cause the abandonment of the Northern Outpost and the scattering of all the criminals gathered there. The IIS and the 3rd Imperial Fleet are willing to cooperate with your government concerning this matter. ---Attachment--- Metting, Cobus, purchase 3 women, delivery point: Port Zero (we believe this to be a code name for a port town on your northern shores) Sievert, Faulk, purchase 2 women, delivery point: Port Zero Thielen, Jasmijn, purchase 1 woman, 1 man, delivery point: Port Zero One (we believe this to be Rotterdam) Vandehai, Ludger, purchase 5 women, delivery point: Port Zero One We have spotted Saskia Van Lith, one of the mobster Faulk Sievert's top lieutenants in the Northern Outpost and have reason to believe she resides there as his representative. At this time we cannot take action to apprehend her, as it would draw too much attention, however we will keep you posted on her activities and if she leaves and of which ship she is on. Currently she has been involved in arraigning the purchase of the two women for her boss, as well as a large stockpile of assault rifles, hand guns, and machine guns with ammunition for them. The shipment of weapons has already left and we believe it was destined for Rotterdam. The name of the ship is the Atlas and it departed 2 days ago, we have also attached a picture of the ship. Message for the Grangale Ministry of Defense from the Dutch Ministry of Defense ~ Concerning Base at Nova Zembla CLASSIFIED We thank you for your cooporation and can assure you that we will do whatever lies in our power to join you in this battle. There is no information which we can provide at this moment, but we will let you know our discoveries immediately. However, there are some additional questions from our side. - The name Northern Outpost seems to implicate that there are more locations like this. What is the Grangale opinion on this matter? - Are there any signs that the criminals can use the stolen weaponry to defend themselves or even to attack others? - We could intervene with the human trafficking in our harbours upon arrival by increasing controls. However that displays the Seven United Provinces has caught a trail of the criminal actions. What is the Grangale stance on the steps that should be taken now? We will include a few classified pictures of the western part of Nova Zembla, it should be notified that this is just the tip of the iceberg. The barrels represent the nuclear waste waiting till its stored underground, however the job was never finished with the fall of the previous owners of the island. It is pure luck that the pirate camp is located on the eastern side of Nova Zembla where no waste is disposed like this. However, it seems to be a matter of time before the pirates will discover it. OOC: If news were to spread of this depo, Neoplanta would be more than willing to help in dealing with the nuclear waste. What sort of waste is it, can it be "recycled" into something less harmful or perhaps even useful? Such an environmental disaster waiting to happen is something we would gladly aid in dealing with - if we know of it, and are welcome to assist, that is. Or you can just keep it a secret, and hopefully no-one will ever know...

TO: Dutch Ministry of Defense FROM: Imperial Intelligence Service of the Grangale Empire SUBJECT: Nova Zembla CLASSIFIED The name of the facility has us concerned as well. We contacted Commodore Ramius, the commander of the 4th Imperial Fleet and one in charge of our anti-piracy efforts for his thoughts. He revealed that some of the intelligence he recovered from one of the bases had two of the captured merchant ships traveling out to a location far out to sea, due east of the Ikaruga province and Nanking. Our satellites do not see anything out there. The Commodore theories that the pirates may be constructing a floating trading post. We will keep you updated as more information arises. Most of the weapons appear to be stored in sealed shipping containers ready for shipping. They do maintain a security force though, we believe that they are no match for trained soldiers. The larger hardware however appears to be in a positions where they can be started up and turned against any attacking force, though ammo and fuel appear limited. We believe the suspicions of the Outposts "proprietors" may be averted if the interception of the contraband and any trafficked persons is tied in with an arrest of the persons who ordered them. In that way a picture can be painted that the security leak was on the end of the customer. We are currently undertaking an operation to intercept and rescue trafficked hostages on a ship with several ports of all in the region. We will be tying the information of this to the raids being conducted by the 4th Fleet. Concerning the nuclear waste, we have several NBC Warfare units in our Army, with your permission we would like to covertly deploy them to the island's west coast via submarine to secure the waste. In addition much of our electricity needs come from nuclear energy and as such we have been researching ways to transmutate radio active waste into materials with much shorter half-lives. We would be willing to take some of the waste off of your hands for our research. Whether to reveal the existence of this facility to the rest of the world, we will leave to your discretion, and you have the Emperor's assurance will keep this knowledge to ourselves. |

Message for the Grangale Ministry of Defense from the Dutch Ministry of Defense ~ Concerning Base at Nova Zembla CLASSIFIED It will be an impossible task to dispose of all the nuclear waste. The location has been used as a dump site for decades and it would take years and an incredible effort to clean it all up. Taken into account the existence of a thick layer of polar ice normally. If cleaning it up would have been a possibility we would have started the day the island became a Dutch protectorate. Because the impossible nature of the task is has been decided to keep the matters top secret and let the second fleet of the Royal Dutch Navy protect the western side of the island. Until recently the barrels you can see in the photographs have been hidden under a thick layer of polar ice, however the unusual hot summer revealed everything. We see no reason into denying the Grangale army the access to Nova Zembla. You are allowed to go there as you please. CLASSIFIED |

Peter van den Broek, a high ranked officer in the Royal Dutch Navy, was a workaholic. Peter worked for all his life, and he probably would work till he died. However, somehow he got hold of a wife and before he had realised he had a son, a daughter, a dog, and a parakeet too. He was stationed in the harbour city of Rotterdam from where he worked on the coordination of the nuclear waste problem on Nova Zembla. It had been hidden under the polar ice since the island became a Dutch protectorate, but now the ice had melted and revealed many of the barrels holding a dangerous content. The only thing Peter wanted was his work, but his wife disagreed on that. They had not been anywhere for at least 8 years, and she desperately wanted to leave the house for a couple of weeks. So she secretly booked the trip and gave Peter the surprise of a lifetime. Peter hated it ofcourse, but managed to keep on smiling as his wife told him the wonderful news. A week later the little family boarded a plane to the nation of Darjistan for a three week visit of the Jeddah Al Nawras Resort located at the Red Sea. As his family enjoyed themselves Peter lied that he could not adjust to the heat very well and snuck back to the hotel room. Here his laptop was already waiting for him. A laptop filled with work! He entered the room and grabbed in his pocket for the USB-stick with all the information about Nova Zembla he took from him work, which was against the rules ofcourse. But the memory stick was not there... He looked for it in all the suitcases, in each pocket, under the bed, in the sink, he looked literally everywhere. This was a disaster, everything was on that stick. A complete archive of the island, the nuclear waste disposal site, the pirate problem, all the classified messages from Grangale, etc, etc, etc. He grabbed up the phone, rang to the Navy headquarters, and asked for the admiral. When the admiral picked up the phone he said 'Admiral, we have a terrible problem...' |
