Al-Nezee News
21 July 2011

The Desert Foxes remained largely silent the past week, as they held closed-door practices in an indoor training facility in Southampton. They woke early this morning for one final practice session before their match today against Neoplanta. Given the abrupt nature of the formation of the Darji squad, they wanted to keep a low profile and focus on coming together as a team. Darjistan has recently formed a national cricket board, the favorite pastime of the nation, but with the announcement of the Chicanan Open, King Dizhwar put a last minute team together to field a squad to represent Darjistan. Only two names on the starting XI will be familiar to the Darji people, Kadin Zogby, who is also a lead actor on the nation's most popular soap opera "Zogby Can't Hold a Job" and defenseman Masoud Tahan who is a beloved thriller novelist. The other team members are sure to gain recognition of their own in the coming weeks, as they face the best Baradoz has to offer, and a nation keenly attuned to their television sets, and radios, to follow every heart-pounding moment of the Second Chicanan Open.

Printed for the 22 July 2011 edition.

The Desert Foxes picked up a single point in their match against Neoplanta yesterday. An equalizer by Khalid Handal in the 72nd minute of the match would seal the game in a 1-1 draw. Neoplanta scored mid-way through the first half, in a match that saw stellar defensive play on both ends of the pitch. Khalid was interviewed by Al-Nezee's sports reporter Amjad Obeid who traveled with the team. "Obviously, we want to win. This is a little disappointing, but every point matters, and this one is no different. Right now the goal is to get some rest, see where we need to improve, and win a tough match tomorrow against MVN." The rest of the team seemed to share the same sentiment in the locker room after the match - they want to make Darjistan proud, they want to come out on top. Still, for a newly formed group of football players who have never played at an international level before - a draw is not half bad. It will be hard to find a disappointed fan in the streets, and homes of Darjistan; and they are still very much in the race, with the division all on even keel at one point a piece.

Match Orange versus Monaco-Ville-Nice

Neuchantel, North Chicanan - In a breathtaking match between two giants in the world of football the Dutch Lion has not managed to roar as the fans hoped she would. However the match was fair and the game was excellent. We congratulate the national team from Monaco-Ville-Nice with this game. As our nation stands behind Orange as one person we can only wait and hope for the best with the match against Neoplanta this evening. Hopefully the game will be equally exciting for anyone. We have been training some troops to reinforce our national team!

Imperials Draw...

Neuchantel, North Chicanan- The Imperials drew 2 - 2 against the Dutch on Thursday, in a hotly contested but clean match. This certainly wasn't the best start to the Imperials defense of the Cup, then again it wasn't the worst either. Head Coach Fabian Arestes summing it up best "We score two goals, with our defense we expect to win. It was a top draw side today that we played and they lived up to what we expected. All around good game, but we didn't come here to draw. We expect to win from here on out.". That seemed to be the sentiment of all the players in the Imperial camp and the Imperial fans. The party and pre-tournament excitement is over, now it's time to focus on winning games and defending the cup. The Imperials face the newly created Darji, Desert Foxes today in Port Augustine.

Al-Nezee Sports
- 23 July 2011

Port Augustine, North Chicanan - The Desert Foxes left Cold Harbor Stadium disappointed for a second straight night, as they were dealt a 2-1 loss to defending Champions MVN. Head coach Yasser Abdullah had this to say after the match. "It was brutal. The score tells the story of a close game, but we got clobbered out there. We weren't creating any scoring chances, luckily our defense held up most of the match, that go-ahead goal was a split second of defensive complacence that really needs to be worked on. What can you do though? I won't be happy with settling for the fifth place match, we still have a chance if we can beat SUP tomorrow, though, with the energy coming from their whole country who made it over to North Chicanan for this tournament, we're going to have a tough time mentally."

The team made its way to Provincetown right after the match, where they'll hold another practice before tomorrows match against the Seven United Provinces. A win tomorrow will be crucial, if the Desert Foxes will make a good impression at this years NC Open. So, to all those rooting back home in Darjistan, say an extra prayer, and keep your fingers crossed!

Match Orange versus Darjistan

Provincetown, North Chicanan - Today the streets of North Chicanan are relatively silent, it is well past noon and the Orange legion is waking up slowly troubled by a collective headache. The game versus Neoplanta was fantastic, the party after even better. The Orange legion travels wherever the national team goes and their support seems to grow each year. Not always because of the teams performance, but mostly due to a lack of national feeling that has the Seven United Provinces in its hold. Whenever the Dutch get the change to celebrate they grab the opportunity with hands.

As the legion is sleeping away her hangover the national team is kicking a few balls on the trainingfield near the stadium. We approached coach, Bert van Brabant, and asked him what his opninion on the North Chicanan open is. 'Well, the organisation is simply great. We are short of nothing and are guided 24 hours a day by the most helpful people. The North Chicanan authorities helped us to get sufficient shelter for the legion too. It is always a problem you know, it is not a small group of people we bring with us. It is a difficult task for any nation to guide an invasion of over 100.000 people. We always bring our own team to make sure things go smoothly, but they can not do anything with the crucial efforts of the organizing nation. North Chicanan does an excellent job, we try to do an excellent job, and the rest is up to the supporters. It is up to them to make this tournament a success, and I must say, up until now it seems like they are fulfilling their task without significant problems.'

'What about tonight?' our reporter asked. 'Well there are three possibilities: a loss, a draw, or a win.' was the coach his reply followed by him returning to the team to continue the training.
