in Trieste, San Lumen

Lt. Comm. Asher Wallingham sat in the bridge of the Northern Light, one of the three large cruisers sitting in dock off the coast. He was asked by the Northern government to meet with Grangale Empire to pick up the two survivors of the recent disaster.

"Lucrezia Beaumont and Erin Beaumont," he forced to memory, as he saw the Grangale V-22s fly into view. The 22s approached the ship and received clearance to land, with the Northern delegation waiting for clearance to meet with the survivors.

The Northern crew had been informed of the missile attack, and that the Government was working on the assumption it was a mistake. Clearly opinions differed on the ship but no one wanted to cause problems while transferring the two survivors and the wreckage into their care. The Grangale Empire had found the black box from the plane and the information would help to notify Northern investigators what had happened in those final minutes as the plane moves off the Sicilian coast into international waters towards Tunis.

"I still don't get how the plane came down if everyone claims the battle is more towards the East," Wallingham noted to himself as he went to the deck, "unless everyone's bearings are off..."

Wallingham and his crew met the Grangle military and two survivors, with the national anthem played in memory of the fifty-four citizens who were lost. Wallingham let Lucrezia know her husbands had been informed of her survival and that of her daughter, and he was flying from Northern Isle to Florence, where the survivors would be taken to the Northern Embassy. Lucrezia was still shaking from the incident while her daughter, still clinging to a stuffed eagle, seemed to be trying to process what happened.

Wallingham then turned to the Grangale fleet. He had many words he could say, but he knew was not the time.

"The Northern government would like to thank you for taking care of our nationals during this time, and responding to our request for assistance in the matter. My staff will help you take the wreckage off your support vehicles so you may return to your fleet when you are ready."

With a salute from both sides, the recovery process had begun. Lucrezia and Erin were taken to a state room to make sure everything was in order for their departure to Florence, while Wallingham reported to the government what had transpired. He left Lt. Comm. Finn Longshallen in charge of recovery with the Grangale Empire, and to play liason. He figured the V-22s would be on board for several hours, discussions over location of material found would be held, and then they would be back in conflict once again.

"I hope we're not following them into war," Wallingham though as he walked to the room where the Beaumonts were being looked after.

The President sat in his office, looking directly at Secretary Adair who sat across from him.

“Sam….what do you suggest we do next?” said the President. He tapped a pencil against the top of his desk as he spoke.

“Well,” said the secretary of state, “I say we just show everyone common sense to prove our innocence.”

The two men looked at each other once more, and the president had a skeptical look on his face, “meaning?”

“Grangale and MVN are trying to convince the world that when we sent our soldiers to Anatolia, we were planning to conquer and attack them or whatever. We both know that this isn’t true.”

The President nodded his head and said, “Yes, when we sent the statement saying that all foreign troops in Anatolia would be viewed as an occupying force, I didn’t freakin’ mean that we were going to attack them!” he said, his voice rising as he spoke. “I just meant that we would not recognize the legitimacy of their land claims in the region.”

“Exactly.” said Secretary Adair, “It would have been military suicide had we landed only 100,000 troops far into their airspace and zone of control….If we so much as thought to attack them while we were there, they could have easily wiped our army off of the face of the earth, and any student of military strategy knows that….We were at equal strength with MVN before that happened. The most stupid thing we could of done were we attempting to attack them would have been to divide our forces! If you look at what we sent, it was obvious that we weren’t intending to colonize the place like they have done. We said again and again before we even left port that we intended to go and bring about order, then leave.”

He was motioning with his hands the entire time, as if he thought that the president was deaf. The president smiled and said, “Well done secretary. Send out a statement saying all of what you just said. If that doesn’t convince the world of how we weren’t looking for war, then I don’t know what will.”

It was near midnight when the stealth bomber wing was still flying over the desert. Throughout the evening, they had been given numerous coordinate rally points, moving in large zigzags over the featureless Sahara desert. They had all refueled while flying somewhere over the desert. The pilots were anxious to get this job done.

Then the final order came in, and the group of heavily armed aircraft sped toward their target. They were heading north after reaching the southern coast of Africa. The black aircraft seemed to disappear when the sky turned to night. Colonel Erikson watched as a green line on his HUD got closer and closer. Then they had passed it. They were in Monaco-Ville-Nice.

Even though nothing had changed, and the featureless desert remained the same, each pilot grew more silent and concentrated. They were in strict radio silence, and proceeded as quietly as possible.

Soon the 26th air base came into view. The pilots sped toward their pre-designated targets, dropping both smart and “dumb” bombs down upon the unsuspecting base. Erikson watched as his fellow wingmen dropped their payloads. He counted the seconds until impact.

Suddenly large explosions appeared on the ground. The command tower was the worst hit, and within minutes had tumbled to the ground. Next a communications tower was destroyed. Immediately after the bombs were dropped, each pilot pulled off, intending to either have a second run at the base or to go back home. Each pilot saying as they went, “Red 1, out”, “Red 2 out”, “Blue 6, out” were just a few of the voices coming through the radio.

Not long after the first bombs hit, AAA fire erupted from all directions. Trails of green light slithered through the sky like snakes. The AAA gunners had to literally sweep the sky, hoping to hit an enemy plane.

One did, and Colonel Erikson saw an F-117s wing be blown off by an exploding anti-aircraft round. The pilot immediately ejected before the burning aircraft dove toward the ground and exploded.

Inside the cockpits there was complete silence except for the occasional exchange of commands by the flight leaders. On the ground meanwhile, there was chaos. While MVN had been moving their air divisions into Libya, they left the 26th out of immediate protection, and hopelessly far out on their exposed southern flank. The 32nd division was just within fighter support range, but by the time that they got into the air and flew the 600 miles, the bombers would be gone.

On the ground, sirens were sounding, and airmen and pilots were rushing to their posts. Numerous hangers were up in flames, along with a strip of aircraft along the runway.

Colonel Erikson looked out of the cockpit and saw the chaos below. “Alright boys, good job,” he said into the radio. “Lets head back to base.” With that the jets turned around, careful to get out of there before enemy aircraft could be successfully scrambled. Stealth jets were excellent at bombing, but were sitting ducks when it came to air-to-air combat.

The Colonel and his men were now heading back west, and once again were approaching the invisible line in the sand when someone he had never heard before crackled on the radio... “Red leader, this is Wolverine, friendlies comin’ in from the west.”

While the major powers had been fighting, the Celatorian operation in former Ixzara had been progressing even better than planned. Knowing that during the war there was little chance of any help from other countries, the people of Levantia had been welcoming to the Celatorian troops.

With the last warlord in the region toppled by Celatorian forces earlier that day, Levantia was almost completely under Celatorian control, the people of the region seeming to have regained some degree of civilisation.

One Celatorian Army division is situated in the north of Levantia and one in the south. Aside from occasional outbreaks of violence, the area seems peaceful, with the Celatorian forces situated there being genuinely seen as liberators.

Alexandria-Monaco-Ville-Nice: Pharaoh Mark Antony was just being informed of the assault by Byronmandy Stealth bombers on the 26th Imperial Air Corps division. Defense Minister Ptah was briefing a distant Antony who seemed to be elsewhere and not really paying attention to the Defense Minister. This only led to further disdain by the Defense Minister towards the Pharaoh. The way he saw it he should be leading the war not the Pharaoh. Once the Defense Minister finished his briefing about the attack on the 26th the Foreign Minister set in about President Wayne and Byronmandy's new attempt to swing popular opinion in there favor. The Pharaoh was equally as distant to the Foreign Minister who was explaining the pointlessness of Byronmandy's speech. It seemed to the Foreign Minister that talking to the Pharaoh was equally as pointless. The Pharaoh then got up and walked away looking over his shoulder and saying "I've just ordered operation mantis into effect.". Neither minister had heard of this operation before and were left with more questions than answers.

...........................................

Somewhere in Libya, Monaco-Ville-Nice: Air Marshal Dyem had just received his orders to carry out operation mantis. The early fazes of the operation, the secret deployments had been carried out early in the day. Everything was set for mantis to begin. The Air Marshal knew that timing was everything in this operation, if all went right however it would be a different world tomorrow. A world in which the Empire would be the unquestioned master of Africa and the Imperial military the most feared fighting force in the world "Perhaps the most feared the world has ever seen?" The Air Marshal thought.

The Air Marshal set to his duty, ordering the Su-37 J Flankers of the 28th, 29th, 30th, 32nd, and 33rd Imperial Air Corps divisions into service. The Su-37 J's were specialized Su-37's designed primarily to take out enemy radar and air defenses. They carrier the wild weasel anti air defense weapons systems which used one plane as bait causing enemy radar to lock on and then the system kicked in jamming radar and the other Su-37's would jump in and use anti-radar missiles to eliminate the enemy defenses. It however was not as easy as it sounded and the Su-37 J pilots had among the most dangerous jobs in any Imperial military service.

The Su-37 J's flew low and at supersonic speeds to the patch work air defenses and radar installations the Byronmandian Army had placed in there defensive line in the Sahara. Once in range they began jamming and engaging the Byronmandian air defenses and radar. Wild weasels destroyed many anti-air missiles and radar all along the Byronmandian front lines. Mobile radar and air defenses exploded and burnt as Su-37 J's roared flying over the heads of the Byronmandian soldiers. Many of the Su-37 J's however were lost in this brave action, nearly 1 in 4 of those that took off from Libya wouldn't return. A steep price for badly damaging the Byronmandian air defenses, it was however what the pilots of the Su-37 J's signed up for. They knew by there sacrifice many of the pilots in the next waves of Imperial attacks would have a much easier time. It was always the first to fight that suffered the highest.

The Next wave was the full compliment of the 28th, 29th, 30th, 32nd, and 33rd Imperial Air Corps's who launched there Su-37 fighter bombers and massive Tu-160 heavy supersonic bombers against the front lines, all the while the Mig-35's were launched as well providing an escort to engage the F-35's of the Byronmandian Air Force. It took some time to get all 5 divisions airborne but once they were it was one of the largest air assaults ever launched. The planes sped at supersonic speed to the front line in the Sahara and the pilots were all confident that they would be victorious.

Once they were within range the Su-37's launched there air to ground missiles at Byronmandian targets in the distance to good effect. Each Su-37 had 12 hard points, typically 6 were air to ground missiles and the other 6 were air to air missiles. Once they had fired all of there missiles into Byronmandian tanks, artillery, apc's, or fixed defenses they sped ahead to clash with the F-35's of the 14th Byronmandian air force division that were sure to have been launched by now. As the Su-37's raced over head now it was time for the massive Tu-160's and there extraordinary payload of 88,000 lb's of 500 lb unguided munitions. These bombs exploded on impact and hit whatever they it. The Tu-160's leveled infantry formations and defensive fortifications. Armour was shredded and burned in the hot desert sun. Once there payload was dropped they headed back to Libya with the Su-37's and Mig 35's covering them the entire way back to Libya.

As Air Marshal Dyem counted the planes coming back he knew the next faze of the operation and indeed the war had begun, the ground war.

........................................

Front lines in the Sahara: Field Marshal Varus (He got promoted) he been busy moving his men along a front that stretched across the entire Sahara. Field Marshal Varus commanded Army Group A which was comprised of 10 divisions (8th, 9th, 10th, 35th, 20th, 19th, 21st, 23rd, 24th, 25th). He knew this would be the biggest operation he would ever be apart of. Once his men had moved within range of the Byronmandian front lines under the blanket protection of the Imperial Air Corps his artillery set in and began dueling the Byronmandian artillery. Both sides sustained damage during the duel as was to be expected. This was something the Field Marshal could live with as his artillery was keeping up better fire not having been bombarded from the air. The artillery barrage went on for some time as both sides seemed to hunker down.

The Field Marshal waited until the artillery grew low on rounds and then ordered all 10 divisions forward. Massive amounts of Imperial armor was now readied and 10 whole divisions of armor plunged forward at the Byronmandian front lines. The divisions were walked in by the Imperial artillery which was still doing damage to the Byronmandian defenses. The Imperial Air Corps returned and provided air support to the charging armor. The armor took casulties heading into the Byronmandian lines but the casulties were acceptable. After all they were killing many Byronmandian soldiers. The Field Marshal knew he had done his job his men kept the 10 Byronmandian divisions more then busy and occupied which was what was needed if mantis was to be a success.

............................

Somewhere in Tunisia, Protectorate of San Lumen: "War is all about friends" Field Marshal thought. All day the Empires Army Group B (13th, 14th, 15th, and 17th divisions) along with the Imperial Air Corps's 27th and 34th had been secretly moved into Tunisia. At the start of the conflict the Kingdom of San Lumen wished to remain neutral but offered to allow Imperial forces into there bases. This was to prove the most important part of operation mantis and make it such a crushing blow to Byronmandy.

Once in place along the Tunisian border Army Group B plunged into the Sahara behind Byronmandian lines uncontested. They arrived to the tune of Imperial Air Corps bombs from the 27th and 34th falling behind Byronmandian front lines on the 35th and 34th Byronmandian infantry divisions. Army Group B quickly captured the Air Base of the Byronmandian 14th air force division and began engaging the Byronmandian rear guard the 34th and 35th while shelling the Byronmandian frontlines from the rear.

Byronmandian soldiers were already unnerved from the massive bombardment they had received early in the day but were holding out against the Imperial ground attack. When artillery and armor began arriving behind there lines however even the bravest soldier was unnerved. "What the hell is going on?" most wondered. When Field Marshal Varus was informed Field Marshal Basil had begun his flanking attack he ordered all his men forward in a massive attack. The Byronmandian soldiers on the front then realized to there horror they were surrounded. Shells from army group B hit the byronmandian front lines nearly undefended back side. They exploded in the baggage train, destroy fuel trucks, munition dumps, command and control centers, and reserves. The whole front was ablaze as the massive battle turned to confusion for the Republics army now between two Imperial army groups. It became about survival for the Byronmanders whose entire defensive line was outflanked. Operation mantis was a success.....

Alexandria-Monaco-Ville-Nice: "This is Queen Cleopatra First Minister. Let me just say the Empire is terribly sorry for the loss of your citizens in the attack. The Empire obviously didn't intend any harm to come to your citizens. For whatever reason however in the fog of war harm did come to them. Know whatever the findings of the investigation by your government the Empire will accept. We will discipline any responsible members of our military if fault is shown in there actions to the fullest extent.". The Queen then waited for the First Ministers reply.

--Baru Hurezumsa--

Earlier that day the Grand Duke had arrived to the nation, and was now meeting with the Collegium, Premier Kendar, though, was still in Kiev.

"So what we have in our hands now?" the Grand Duke asked.

"The Bryromandian Navy suffered major losses after engaging with the joined Imperial fleets." Begun reporting General Kypov "Though the Imperials also got their share of damage. The Bosphorus is under our control now, the First is stationed there, the Second is keeping what is left of Commodore Burakgazi's armada at a side."

"Good, good." The Grand Duke nodded "What about Uzun's Ground Forces?"

"Almost nonexistent on the east of the Bosphorus, and now that we cut their supply line we believe won't be long before they change sides. Unfortunately on the west bank Uzun remains strong." This time was Vice Admiral Alexandrov whom spoke.

"I see. Very well the second shall maintain their position, I've contacted both Krasnodar and Armenia and they will also keep an eye on Burakgazi's movements." was the Grand Duke's reply

An aide then approached Vice-Admiral Alexandrov whom moments later spoke "Your Highness we have a line with the Second Fleet.

"Good. On screen please Vice-Admiral."

At a large screen on the end of the table now was showing Squadron Admiral Utkin, Commander of the Second Fleet.

"Squadron Admiral Utkin, reporting Your Highness."

"What are the conditions of the Second, Utkin?"

"Besides of a few scratches we're fine Sir. We got them by surprise and they had no chance."

"Good to hear Commander. The second shall maintain the belt tight on Barukgazi. The Armenians are deploying their fleet near you, their intention is of course keep their waters safe, lets keep it that way, and Krasnodar has offered to assist you. I believe Prince Alexi is eager to put in practice what he learned with the Imperials. Give him some room, but keep an eye on him would you."

"Yes Sir!"

"That's all Utkin."

As the screen turned off showing the salute of Squadron Admiral Utkin, the Gran Duke asked that one question that was missing:

"What about the Gerveroux?"

"Well Sir, we have horrible news regarding that."

"Speak up man"

"The GDG found they all dead. It was a manslaughter."

The Grand Duke was horrified with these news.

"Inform the company, I want a NCIS unit on board that ship at once! We must know what happened on board. Was it rogue pirates, or an action of one of the warlords? I want to know everything. The GDG's on board shall secure the ship. No one can get on board without my acknowledge! Understood?" Kahv Eirm was now furious.

"Yes Sir!" was replied by all in the room.

Air Vice Marshal Karlov then spoke:

"Your Highness, should we prepare the Claim of Arsalan?"

The Claim of Arsalan was a military scenario based on an historical movement from the early years of Veomo, even before it was to become the Grand Duchy, in which, assisting the Byzantine Empire, a small veomese fleet defended the western bank of the Bosphorus. The annalists believed that the scenario could be turned around and a small contingent could conquer the western bank, the same way it defended it some many centuries ago. The scenario was named after the persian legend of Arsalan.

"Get it in stand by. For now." were the words of the Grand Duchy, and everything was put in motion.

Meanwhile in the Grangale Empire, Commander Nika Kurchenko was preparing to return to the Grand Duchy.

"Queen Cleopatra, it is very nice to speak with you in such times. Thank you for your concern and condolences during this time of crisis for the Northern people, and your assistance in helping the survivors of this situation return safely to San Lumen and eventually to their home. While we understand that war makes accidental casualties, we do appreciate your efforts to help in recovering those we have lost today.

Once we have collected the data from the Grangale Empire I believe a proper investigation will be implemented, and we will notify the states of our findings. Thankfully the black box was found so we shall hopefully find out what transpired on the plane to cause the plane to fail and respond to calls from below."

Helene paused for a minute. She had a lot to ask the Queen - she figured she ran roughshot over the Pharoah and could give her details Nelson had not been as forthcoming with - but wasn't sure how to ask them.

"I do look forward to speaking with you again on more positive affairs between our states. Our government has chosen to remain neutral at this time but we sincerely hope that both the Imperials and the Byronmander state come to some conclusion soon that does not involve the continuation of conflict. I do not feel it is in the best interest of the states in the region or for the Neoplantan and Ixzaran peoples to be neglected due to the fog of war. While we shall continue or work in the Balkans, we hope that other states will be able to come to our assistance to help rebuild and repair a broken region for the betterment of all of Baradoz."

Falling on deaf ears or not, at least someone spoke to the highest official of the Imperials saying the conflict was wrong. Helene paused, to see how Cleopatra would respond.

While the war raged in the seas to the south, as far as the Imperial Army units in Istanbul were concerned, it was General Metran to the east that was the real problem, not Byronmandy. Metran had made several attempts to break though their lines take the city, all which ended in failure, but it looked like he wasn't going to give up any time soon. With Celetoria's troops to the south cleaning up, Colonel Sami and his commander were no longer an issue.

With their southern flank clear, Colonel Kemal decided now was the time to push east and take out the rouge general. In addition he was also going to send a request to send the 4th Fleet back to Istanbul to help with the warlords as originally planned. He was hearing rumors that Metran and a rogue Ixzaran Commodore were now working together and being armed by the international criminal Kenneth Baker.

The plan was to attack Metran's main forward base by air, then land troops to capture the base. The Base would then be used as a springboard into Metran's territory once the 4th Fleet arrived.

A Byronmadian Leopard 2A6 Tank gunner of the 22 Division was firing his rounds and obeying the commander’s every word. MVN forces were coming strong from the east like expected. The Byronmadian forces had been able to dig in and make the front line as impenetrable as possible in the long down time before the assault began. The attacking MVN forces faced fields of landmines and ditches while under constant bombardment by the Republic’s Artillery and fighters.

A thick dust storm clouded nearly all vision, so the tanks quickly began switching to thermal imaging. An Apache pilot had called the tank commander’s attention to numerous unidentified vehicles coming from the north. Only then did they realize what was happening. The commander looked through his thermal sights and saw the horizon covered with enemy tanks and helicopters. His mouth dropped open, “Mother of God…..” he said, obviously stunned. His crew looked to him for orders. It took him a second before he gave the signal to retreat, calling upon all other nearby units to do the same.

In about ten minutes, his tank was hit by a round from a T-90, killing everyone inside.

That was the end of the 22 Division. It was too exposed and unable to fall back. Next the 21st Division was also destroyed. It seemed all was lost.

***

When word reached Abraham Clive, commander of all Byronmadian forces in North Africa, he was saddened, but not stunned by such an attack. He had trusted San Lumen to keep their word and stay neutral. This was not neutral, no matter how you look at it. He cursed San Lumen, but knew that there was nothing he could do right now. It would be Allentown’s job to deal with them…

He was peering over a map, sending orders to divisional commanders every couple minutes. From his hidden base outside of Al-Meghreb, he had good operational control and up-to-the-minute updates.

Suddenly an aide rushed in through the door, waving a piece of paper in his hand, “Sir, Headquarters is calling for you to retreat into Algeria!”

He didn’t say a word, but a look of anger overtook his expression as he read the order. He crumpled it up and threw it into the corner before turning back to a map of the region.

The aide, obviously stunned by what he just saw, managed to say, “Sir?…..What is your response?”

The few seconds before he answered seemed like a generation. Then the Field Marshal turned around, his large scar along his face easily visible in the light.

“Tell them to go to hell…….We’re staying.”

The aide smiled briefly before an expression of complete terror overtook him.

The Marshal sighed and told him to get out. Immediately after, Charles Tannenburg, Clive’s right hand man came in.

“Sir, is everything alright?”

The Field Marshal looked at him and said, “No, of course its not….Tell General Erwan to initiate ALL reserves and have them land at LZ 5. Is that clear?”

With a “Yes sir” and a salute, Tannenburg left to make the call. Meanwhile Clive prayed to god that his army would be able to survive the next couple of days.

***

Over 40,000 men were killed or captured in the surprise MVN flanking maneuver. The 21st and 22nd Army Divisions, as well as the 14th air base were completely destroyed. Field Marshal Clive ordered what forces he had left to assume a convex defensive battle line. He had trained all of his men extensively in this operation, and such a situation was something he had thought about while waiting for the MVN onslaught.

The MVN forces got too greedy when they attacked the 14th air division. They were moving too far inland. Even if they intended to completely surround the Byronmadian forces, it would not have been the best move. They were nearly sacrificing their numerical superiority by stretching their lines thin to accompany their ever growing front line. The convex defensive position was meant for situations like this, where outnumbered troops were being outflanked.

The southern half of the front was still holding strong, with slightly outnumbered Byronmadian troops able to hold their positions because of growing air support from the Byronmadian Air Force divisions, who faced an enemy well within range, compared to the MVN aircraft which were based farther out in Libya, and well placed anti-tank and AAA defenses. A few MLRS systems tucked behind the front lines were able to inflict severe damage on the enemy.

General Erwan was stunned by what San Lumen had done. He never would have predicted them to commit such a horrible act, especially while lying and pleading neutrality. He was unsure of how things were going in Africa, but he had hoped that most of his troops had made it to Algeria like ordered.

He literally fell out of his chair when he heard that Marshal Clive refused to obey. He brought his objections immediately to the President, but to his surprise, Wayne wanted to see what this man named Clive could do. He said that retreating in anyway was a last resort, and by now it would be nearly impossible considering the situation on the ground. Any retreat would surely turn into a rout.

The President gave the order to initiate all reserves and land at Landing Zone 5 in Algeria. The reserve force had been stationed in Iberia throughout the war, training day in and day out for when they would see combat. It was comprised of the 26th and 27th Army Divisions, as well as the 19th from Norway and the famed 25th Mountain Division.

The troops were ready after a moments notice, and quickly boarded transport aircraft that was to take them to their respective zones.

Field Marshal Donovan Wright was given command of this force. It was something he had waited for his entire life. Now he had the chance to become a hero and save his nation. 80,000 troops were about to land behind the overstretched MVN forces.

***

Meanwhile, MVN’s Army Group B was under constant attack by Byronmadian aircraft. Most fighters were tasked with defeating what enemy fighters they could, but the Republic’s menacing fleet of A-10 Thunderbolt IIs were zooming overhead the too-close-for-comfort enemy. The Warthog’s produced an unmistakable sound as their Gatling guns poured steel onto enemy armor.

***

The northern coast of Algeria was in a state of controlled chaos. The 80,000 troops that had been landed were just now beginning to move inland. Marshal Wright sat in the passenger seat of a jeep not far behind his troops. While they were on the move, determined to trap the MVN forces, he picked up his radio and began a pre-battle speech that was sure to inspire any soldier to give his life for his country. This was their last hope at victory.

President Wayne sat in his office alongside General Erwan and Secretary Adair. They sat silently for a few moments before talking.

“I cannot believe that San Lumen would do such a thing…..We had issued a statement just as hostilities began that any nation that harbored troops of MVN or Grangale would be considered an enemy of the Republic and be in a state of war with us….And now they do this!”

The President pounded his fist upon the table.

“They lied by saying they were neutral while they devised this plan with MVN. I am dumbfounded by how they thought this would benefit them. One of their naval fleets is well within range of our entire armada. We could destroy them quickly if wanted.”

“Very, well….Sam, Issue an ultimatum to San Lumen. In any other situation, this would be considered an act of war, and our aircraft would already be in their airspace:

Number one: They can join us in our war against MVN….I know that this is not likely, but if they ever wanted to maintain even any relations with us, it would be what they do.

Number two: they can kick all remaining MVN and Grangale troops out of their territory, and completely close off their air-space to them. This, I hope is what they choose. They can still remain neutral, but this time making sure to not get involved in any way.

And finally, if San Lumen refuses to choose from the options I already listed, or they do not respond ASAP, they will be considered at war with us. We will have our armada systematically destroy their 6th fleet and most military units in Tunisia and Malta, and launch a massive missile barrage upon their military installations and cities such as Darius and Florence. It would be a massive price to pay for a cause that they don’t fully support.”

Secretary Adair immediately leapt up to issue the statement. San Lumen would have to choose from the options above or face war. He hoped that they would make the right choice and stop this conflict from getting even bloodier.

Statement from Secratary of Defense Regina Bates
To Whom it may Concern
"To order to avoid war we will close our military airspace to those involved in this war as we do not wish to go to war the Republic of Byronmandy. We are truly sorry for the consequences our actions have caused. I hope the Republic can forgive us. I would like to point out that the Grangale Empire was merely airlifting injured citizens of ours to Trieste. We promise not to get involved in this war. On this you have my word.
