Helene woke with a bit of a start. She heard the phone ring several times but chose to ignore it. Finally she got up and looked. It was Secretary Adair. "The hell does he want," she asked before flipping. North Chicanan was getting to their wits end with Byronmandy. Even if the public was not thrilled with the accidental shooting down of a civilian plane by either Imperial or Grangale forces, the public questioned their commitment of troops to the Anatolian as well as their statements pledging war if soverignty was not recognized. She answered. She wasn't thrilled with what Adair said. "You mean to tell me Monaco-Ville-Nice attacked through Tunisia?" "Yes. Unfortunately First Minister the President feels this breaks their neutrality and has issued an ultimatum." "Please tell me you're joking." Adair went silent. Helene finally caught on he was talking outside the scope of the government. "Secretary Adair, I suggest either you or your president contact me through the Government line in the morning. I expect a full explanation as to what is going on, for my government is not very happy with the course of action your government has taken." She closed her MyPhone...and considered throwing it against the wall. Like hell was Byronmandy going to drag San Lumen into this. She woke her secretary and told her to forward a message to the Chancellor of Celatoria to contact her when he had a chance. As well as the Prime Minister of San Lumen. There was a commitment to secure Yugoslavia, but the threat of war in San Lumen pushed her patience to the brink, but she knew better than to play with the Imperials. But then again... Helene then called the secretary back. Robbie was just as stressed as Helene. Helene told him to also get either Nelson or the Queen from Monaco on the line. She wanted to know why they would use San Lumen territory to launch an attack and risk a neutral state getting involved and creating a bigger quagmire than they were in. Robbie had a busy three hours ahead of him making connections, sending memos, and waiting for the Byronmander call that Helene wanted first. |

Alexandria-Monaco-Ville-Nice: Pharaoh Mark Antony knew Army Group B was taking hard causalities but Byronmandy was all in now. They had sent there reserves, the entire remnants of there tattered army to the North Africa. The Pharaoh had sent the 11th, 12th, 16th and 18th Imperial Army divisions to the Sahara from Egypt to reinforce Army Group B doubling there numbers and giving them the edge they needed to throw the newly arrived Byronmandian forces back. There arrival was a bit of a surprise for the Pharaoh who had not expected them to throw there entire army into the war for North Africa "Bold" the Pharaoh thought. Bold and costing the Empire some serious casualties in Army Group B. In order to link up with the reserve divisions of the 11th, 12th, 16th and 18th Imperial Army divisions Army group B had to withdraw slightly. This gave the tired and bloodied men a few hours to breathe. In the mean time the entire Imperial Air Corps in Libya now joined by the Imperial Air Corps 31st division threw themselves at the attacking Byronmandian reinforcements. The 8 divisions of the Imperial Air Corps inflicted quite an amount of damage on the advancing Byronmandian reinforcements. This slowed there advance and allowed the 11th, 12th, 16th and 18th Imperial Army divisions speeding through the desert the time to link up with Army Group B whose 14th division was merged with the 13th due to high casualties. The newly reinforced Army Group B began pushing Byronmandian forces back with heavy Imperial Air Corps support. ........................ On the front line Field Marshal Varus ordered the 19th, 20th, 21st, and 23rd divisions to hold the front against the 1st, 28th, and 37th divisions of the Republics army. It was easy enough seeing as the Byronmandians were in a defensive position so it was simply a artillery duel. While this happened the 9th and 35th divisions, supported by the 24th Imperial Army division smashed in a wedge formation straight into the Byronmandian 2nd division with massive artillery support. All the while the 8th and 10th supported by the Imperial 25th division repeated the same attack with massive artillery support on the Byronmandian 3rd division splitting the Byronmandian army into two halves. The Byronmandians were vulnerable to such a massed concentrated combined arms attack at there center. Losses on both sides were high, though the Byronmanders were outnumbered 3 to 1 in the center. The 2 North Africa divisions put up valiant resistance but were overwhelmed by massive Imperial numbers. The 6 Imperial divisions after destroying the 2 North African divisions raced to the center of the Byronmandy formation. They overran the heart of the the Byronmanders command and control structure which was located in the center of Byronmandys now overrun defensive formation. Imperial tanks were into the supplies of Byronmandys army and had just broken into there command centers. Field Marshal Varus smiled as his attack on the Byronmandian center had proved successful, though at high cost. He wondered to himself "How much longer could this go on? Byronmandy surely would have to offer terms soon.". With the newly reinforced Army Group B pushing Byronmandys 4 reinforcement divisions into Algeria, the 8th, 9th, 20th, 24th, 25th and 35th Imperial divisions pushing into the rear of the Byronmanders 20th, 35th, and 24th divisions and causing as much havoc as would be expected in an army being attacked from the rear, how much longer would Byronmandy have the will to fight? The 19th, 20th, 21st, and 23rd Imperial divisions were more than content to simply hold the 3 southern Byronmandian divisions in there defensive positions and out of the real fight happening to the north. "The war was up to the politicians now." The Field Marshal thought to himself. He then remembered the unwillingness of Byronmandy to accept the inevitable and then thought "That's if we don't find ourselves pushing into Algeria, and perhaps beyond?". OOC: Sorry NC didn't see your reply.... We can just pretend that the First Minister and Cleopatra are still talking. "Thank you for you patience with this situation" The Queen replied to the First Minister on the Northerners restraint on the issue of the shooting down of the passenger plane. The Queen made clear any Imperial assistance requested would be given to Northern investigators working on the incident. The Queen felt satisfied that both states had come to a reasonable conclusion over the issue. The Empire would aid any Northern investigation and any Imperial negligence would result in severe punishment. There of course was the issue of compensation for the families which the Empire was more than happy to offer. One million solidus would be given to the head of every family who had lost a family member in the crash. Hardly a replacement for a loved one, but the Empire often found there wallet could make up for many a mistake. The Queen chuckled a bit at the First Minister saying ""I do look forward to speaking with you again on more positive affairs between our states." and she replied with "It seems like negative issues always dominant the states no? It's like that in both our countries it seems. I do hope there can be a day when we talk about more positive interaction between our two countries.". On the issue of Neoplanta and Ixzara the Queen assured the First Minister that any aid not allowed to flow through the Western Mediterranean due to the conflict would be supplied by the nations of the east, most notably the Empire. She again stated her support for the Northern mission in Neoplanta and welcomed Northern involvement in continental affairs. |

OOC: no problem MNV, we'll pretend Helene's late night call with Adair happens after our chit-chat. Helene agreed with the Queen that the affairs of the region always hampered the ability of the states to gaining closer relations, and let her majesty know North Chicanan was interested in exchanging ambassadors with the Imperials. "It's imperative, especially now, that North Chicanan is able to have more formal and direct relations with those in the region." She did let the Queen know that due to movement of the war towards Byronmandy Northern supplies would be transported through Celatorian and San Lumen airspace to Trieste, where the Third Fleet was based. Supplies would then be ferried to the Second fleet near Podgorica. "I am pleased to hear even in times of conflict that the Empire is still working to provide humanitarian assistance within Istanbul, and hopefully they will soon be in contact with Celatorian troops who are also working to end some horrible attrocities in the region. We remain committed to our friends in the former Neoplanta even during this dark time." She said she would forward the list of names of those lost in the tragic plane loss to Monaco-Ville-Nice after review with regional air officials in Yugoslavia. After courtesy pleasantries, Helene ended the call. "Not much progress there." Helene sighed as she saw her personal secretary Robbie. "Please forward any office calls to my cell. I'll call you if i need you." "I hope you don't, m'am, it's nearly two in the morning!" Robbie replied as he followed the First Minister out. "There's never rest in politic, my young man. Never rest." ...and now we're at this post in the storyline from the Northern perspective! |

Repairs were completed on the Muspellheim and the Nibelheim, as well as their 4 remaining destroyers. These 6 were all that was left of the once proud 7th Imperial Fleet of the Grangale Empire. The 7th was in formation behind the 6th at the Suez, and Admiral Revil was kept up to date on the fight in North Africa. Currently both Imperial Navies held positions in the eastern sea. Revil's XO Captain Noah approached and asked why the navies haven't been sortied, even with the 4th being sent back to Istanbul they still had the numeric advantage. "The Pharaoh probably wants this to be a land war. He wants to smash them up against the seas." "But couldn't their navy evacuate their troops?" Noah asked. "They could, but the funny thing about bad morale, it's like a disease, sometimes it spreads to where soldiers who have been completely demoralized go. With a little luck seeing their boys come home totally shell shocked, might even bring down the neo-conservatives and bring an end to the war and the threat they pose." --- GIS Venator, Somewhere in the Aegean... again... --- The 4th Fleet was called back to Istanbul to support Kemal's up coming offensive against Gen. Metran, and Ramius couldn't help but feel like some kind of errand boy. His plan of dropping off the POWs at a neutral nation was vetoed by High Command, and he was ordered to bring them to Istanbul where a cruise liner was acquisitioned and converted into a prison ship. He had about 30, still on the deck of the ship in tents, so he didn't think conditions would be all that terrible. The Commodore and the XO were again in the officer's mess. "So what do you make of the fight in North Africa?" Jintao asked. "Well... the neo-cons can't carry out anymore of their threats that's for sure. But after the thrashing we gave their navy anything else seems kind of overkill. It'll be awhile till they can get their fleet back together after we all jumped on them and broke their back. I don't much like neo-conservatives, they're like some weird hybrid of religious and political fanatics. So I don't know... I'm kind of mixed on the matter..." Ramius answered. "On one hand I don't like to see people die for nothing, on the other hand, fanatics shouldn't be allowed to have anything that goes boom, or bang. Anyway it's not our problem anymore, and to an extent, I'm glad." |

--- Somewhere above the former Ixzaran Republic --- Corporal Hatsumomo Saito was once again checking her Mk.14 EBR and she would once again be providing sniper fire from the air born helicopter. Operation Oasis was once again extended, this time into an offensive strike against Gen. Metran to the east. With the warlords to the south dealt with by the Celatorians, Kemal was now able to free up those troops to push east. In another development, the mayor of Istanbul Kadir Tobas was now made Governor of the Istanbul District. She stuck her head out the window a little and could see the explosions in the distance, and several fireballs falling from the sky, the work of the Rafales ahead of them no doubt. With the tanks and AA out of the way, the squads would be able to fast rope out of the helicopters, while the marksmen provided support from above. The helicopter was in position and Hatsumomo took her spot and peered though her night vision scope. There were quite a bit of tangos out, and she methodically placed the crosshairs on each one, one after the other. *bang* *bang* *bang* While she continued fireing, on the ground Alpha, Bravo and Charlie squads were spreading out to secure different parts of the base. It wasn't a large base, just a few buildings, barracks, hangars and two runways. The superior training of the Imperial troops did more than off set their smaller numbers. And within and hour it was all over. The base would be used by Kemal's troops and the next target would be General Metran's HQ, itself along the Halys River. Sgt. Sevchenko was almost positive that Kemal would try to move onto either Commodore Burakgazi's or General Tilki's territories next. --- Eastern Anatolia --- "Well Mr. Baker you certainly seem quite happy today." Commodore Burakgazi commented. "Well of course, though the dummy companies we have set up in Grangale, MVN, and Byronmandy we're raking in the cash. The minute those neo-conservatives took power I knew their inflammatory talk would get them into a fight with at least MVN, and what does every modern war require? MUNITIONS! As long as this war continues, you, me and General Metran will be VERY rich men!" "And how do you think the war will continue? Byronmandy seems all but beaten?" Burakgazi asked. He knew Baker would have an answer, the man was a snake. "Oh, I've got a buddy in the neo-conservative party who loves money too. He'll keep prodding to continue the war and put cash in our pockets... and off shore bank accounts. In fact, I might even be able to set up a new market here!" Baker felt quite proud of himself. He had outlasted Gregory Sokolov, who was now on trial for various crimes, and Ulrich Jurgen who had disappeared off the face of the continent, and soon he might even be in position to set up another black market trading post in the warlord's territory. President Wayne had just received news of San Lumen’s offer to close all of their territory off to MVN and Grangale from Secretary Adair. “Good,” he said, “now I don’t have to worry about something like that again….Tell them that we meant nothing personal about our ultimatum….It was just that we had clearly stated in the beginning that if someone did that, it would mean war. I don’t know what else they could have expected.” Secretary Adair nodded his head and said, “Well, at least they’re remaining truly neutral now. We don’t want San Lumen to ever be an enemy of ours.” The President agreed and Mr. Adair left the office to send a response to San Lumen. He was enormously glad that this war wouldn’t have to escalate any further. *** Marshal Clive hadn’t expected MVN to deploy 80,000 more reserve troops to the front. And he never imagined that they would’ve arrived so quickly. Nevertheless, MVN’s Army Group B was caught completely off guard. The 80,000 troops that landed in Algeria, and were commanded by Marshal Donovan Wright, pushed with all their might into the desert. They were under constant attack by the numerically superior MVN airpower, but with the Republic’s airbases around Algeria so close, they were able to stave off much of the attacks. The attack that came from the center of the line was expected. The Byronmadian troops there were outnumbered, but even dug in they could not completely hold against the push by the 5 enemy divisions. The two North Africa Corps Divisions in that area, the 2nd, and 3rd, were the worst hit. They would both be totally destroyed, losing way too many men. Their defenses were stubborn, however, and they were able to eliminate the enemy 9th division which spearheaded the attack. The MVN attack drove very deep into the Sahara, effectively cutting off the 1st and 37th North Africa Corps Divisions and the 28th Army Division in the south from the 20th, 24th, and 30th Army divisions to the North. Meanwhile, while the attack in the center by MVN was just beginning, another offensive was being launched by the Byronmadian forces in the North. When the 80,000 relief troops came upon crest of the Atlas Mountains, they launched a simultaneous attack with the 20th, 24th and 30th divisions upon the enemy. The MVN forces had been attempting to withdraw slightly when the further reinforcements from Egypt came. The MVN forces in the far north of their position had been stretched out over a long, thin piece of land, less than 100 miles thick between the main Byronmadian army in the south, and the reserve forces of Byronmandy to the north. The MVN 13th and 15th divisions were quickly defeated, but then the rest of the army began to hold firm. ![]() *** Field Marshal Abraham Clive was contemplating what to do next. He had to evacuate his HQ last night. Him and his staff managed to escaped to join the 24th Army Division and he began giving his commands from there. The situation was getting worse at every moment. He had lost the 2nd and 3rd North Africa Corps Divisions due to the attack by MVN in the center. Meanwhile he managed to only defeat the enemy 9th Division in the center. The reinforcements coming from the north had been able to link up with the troops already in Africa, and destroyed the enemy 13th and 15th divisions while they were pulling back to try to join their own reserves coming from the east. As of now, the attack in the center had mostly divided Clive’s army. He knew that unless something drastic was done, it would spell doom for his nation. He devised a plan with Marshal Tannenburg to withdraw, while fighting, onto Byronmandy’s southern border. The 35th and 24th Army divisions would fall back to join the 19th, 26th, and 27th divisions along the crest of the Atlas mountains and Byronmandy’s border with the Sahara. The famed 25th mountain division, who was fresh and hadn’t lost many men yet would cover their retreat before joining them. This would bring the northern half of the army safely into Algeria, but the Marshals were still trying to figure out how they were going to save the southern three divisions, if that was even possible. It was decided that the 20th and 28th Army divisions would converge from both directions upon the tip of the enemy spearhead, formed now by the MVN 25th Division. While this was happening, the 37th North Africa Division would withdraw north to join the forces in Algeria. The two Byronmadian divisions came from both the north and the south upon the enemy 25th division. The MVN division, which was concentrated on pushing strait west, was amazed when they were suddenly attacked on both flanks. This last-ditch offensive by the desperate Byronmadian forces managed to put the enemy 25th division out of action. Byronmadian air power, led by A-10s focused on this sector the most. They ensured the destruction of the tip of the enemy spearhead while covering the two Byronmadian division’s retreat into Algeria. Field Marshal Clive knew that he would need something more to make sure that this withdrawal did not turn into a rout. Something was needed to delay the enemy as much as possible. He found what he sought in the 1st North Africa Corps Division. Field Marshal Felix Gaul, the commander of the division was immediately contacted. The North Africa Corps had suffered horrendous casualties in this war so far. Out of the original 4 Divisions, only 2 were left still fighting. Marshal Gaul had been observing every moment of what was happening in his HQ at the southernmost point in what was the Byronmadian line. When he got the call from the command headquarters, he had expected what the orders were. He listened to the man on the phone, nodding and saying “yes, sir” numerous times. After hanging up the phone, he stood and looked at his watch. It was time. The 1st North Africa Division was to hold at all cost, in order to delay the oncoming enemy forces and allow the withdrawing main army to regroup in Algeria. It was a mission that Field Marshal Felix Gaul knew may well be his last. The 1st Division prepared itself for what was to come. It was decided that instead of remaining purely defensive, they would launch an all or nothing attack upon the enemy 35th division, making the southern flank of the spearhead. ![]() While the 1st division began to move, the rest of the Byronmadian army was falling back into Algeria, protected by the largest amount of sorties flown by the air force during the entire war. Eventually the southern border of Byronmandy, along with the Atlas Mountains, was reached. Each division took up it’s new position and prepared to defend against another possible attack. The army had to abandon the city of Al-Meghreb, and as of now, no one knew if the enemy had reached the city yet, or if they did what was happening. Clive moved his HQ once again, this time to the city of Algiers. The Marshal and his staff quickly began organizing the army into a defensive line, and he had received word that the 18th Air Division would pull back to Southern Iberia and that the main fleet would be pulling back some so that they could better cover the ground troops from the air and prepare for any possible attack by MVN fleets through the strait between Italy and Tunisia. Jeffery Hanson, the commander of the Armada thought the natural bottleneck made an excellent situation. Any attacking fleet would have to squeeze together, and go bit by bit through the pass. ![]() *** Secretary Adair had been running all over Allentown after the Republic accepted San Lumen’s statement. He was nearly done, and after finishing a phone call with a Major-General, remembered that he was supposed to call First Minister Aremstrang back. He rushed into his office, making sure to turn and lock the door while he did so, ensuring that no one will bother him. He had talked to the president earlier about what Mrs. Aremstrang said, and asked if it was alright if he be the one that called back. President Wayne was fine with it and after a brief talk, they each went about their own business. Adair picked up the phone to North Chicanan and listened as it began to ring… |

--- Imperial Council Chambers, Directia --- Ashley watched as Arlington listened to President Wayne's broadcast, and knew exactly what the man was up to, and could almost literally see the gears turning in his head. For everything President Wayne had to say, Arlington would be there with a counter, like some kind of rabid dog, he would just not let go. Ashley wasn't sure, but somewhere along the line, Arlington made this personal. --- Press Room, Imperial District, Directia --- Later that night. Arlington once again cleared his throat for the radio broadcast. "Greetings to all. My fellow residents of Baradoz, did I not say that we would see President Wayne's true colors? Did we not all watch on the nightly news as he escalated this war further, prompting our allies Monaco-Ville-Nice to launch a massive ground assault in North Africa in retaliation? My friends, President Wayne is not a man for peace. No! Instead he and his neo-conservative cohorts seek to establish Byronmandy as a hegemon! Time and time again we and our allies have stated that we would take a seat at the negotiating table, which North Chicanan has graciously offered to mediate for. all that we and our allies ask is that President Wayne lay down his weapons. Has he done so? Heh, well, I believe actions speak louder than words. Instead of laying down his weapons and coming to the table, he instead launches a massive stealth bomber raid. Can there be any more clear evidence that Alexander Wayne IS NOT INTERESTED IN PEACE? Now President Wayne seeks to fool you all once again, just as I have cautioned you that he would. Now he tries to claim 'common sense' that 100,000 and two full fleets would not be enough to threaten us? Allow me a moment to fill all of you in on the early details of Operation Oasis. Our objective was only to establish a safe zone in Istanbul, working with local commander Colonel Ridvan Kemal's remaining forces. To that end we deployed only 10,000 ground troops and half of an air division, and the 4th Fleet, which as you many recall is a small destroyer squadron, not one of our full battle fleets. His two fleets would be more than enough to smash the 4th, his 100,000 would be more than enough to over run our perimeter and sack Istanbul. President Wayne claims that common sense would show that he speaks the truth? Well to that I say simple mathematics shows once again what a liar he is. For President Wayne, for a neo-conservative you are either with them, or against them, there is NO third option. President Wayne will threaten, bully, wage war as we have seen in the last month or so, if you are not with him. They chant "Death to tyrants?" Well my good friends, I ask you this: What can be tyrannical the one who would bully, threaten and wage war upon his neighbors who do not prostrate themselves before him?! Allow me to add 'hypocrites' to the list of traits of a neo-conservative! I wish not to leave you all on such a dark note, so I am happy to announce that the Imperial Senate and the Imperial Council have agreed to fund the construction of three new Kirov-class guided missile battlecrusiers. In keeping with our naval combat tactics of destroying an enemy's carriers to neutralize their naval air power, these powerful new ships will be armed with the SS-N-19 long range anti-ship missiles. While I cannot give the technical details of these weapons, I assure you they far outclass any other anti-ship missile in use. I greatly appreciate this time to chat with you all, bid you all farewell for now, and good night." Reeve leaned back in his chair wondering how long Arlington would continue with this propaganda sniping with President Wayne. He also laughed a little on the inside at Arlington's last point. The Kirovs were to be commissioned mainly because of the large number of SAMs they carried. It was decided that it with a thicker SAM umbrella more of a carrier's fighters could be dedicated to anti-shipping and not air cover. --- Elsewhere --- Admiral Revil looked over the tactical map of North Africa, and an idea formed in his head. Might take awhile but... "XO, get me MVN's naval command..." Revil ordered. Edited by Grangale Empire, Aug 2 2011, 11:23 AM.
