Prime Minister Lantingham had arrived in her office early in the morning. She had worried all night about the threat Byronmandy had made. She was having her morning tea and croissant and reading the day's edition of La Repubblica the national newspaper based in Rome. Prime Minister Lantingham was pleased to read that Byronmandy has accepted Secretary Bates's statement. A war and a enemy of Byronmandy was the last thing she and King Jason wanted. She was interrupted from reading by a knock on the door.
"Come in.'' She said. It was Alex DePaul her Chief of Staff. Alex was a handsome young man in his late 20s. He was tanned and muscular having served in the Royal Navy.
"Good Morning Alex.'' The Prime Minister said.
"Good Morning Prime Minister. The Personal Secretary to the First Minister of North Chicanan will be calling for a video conference shortly. Secretary Bates and Secretary Thomas will meet you in the conference room. If it is all right with you Prime Minister I would like to sit in on the meeting as well.'' DePaul asked.
"Of Course you may.'' The Prime Minister said as they both headed to the conference room.

President Wayne was well aware of Grangale's reaction when he began speaking to a crowd of reporters in the first floor of the presidential mansion:

"Hello ladies and gentlemen, this press report comes as a response to the continuing war in Africa. The Empire of Grangale has issued an attack statement against us, saying that we don't want peace. Let them talk as much as they desire. The people of Baradoz are smart enough to decide for themselves what is right and wrong.

I have also came to announce that Byronmandy would like to have the war halted immediately, with all involved nations issuing cease fires to their troops. This would allow for the emergency conference in Vienna to finish without the worries of what is happening on the ever-growing front, and to allow for a possible peace conference to be held in the near future.

This should allet us finally get some much-needed diplomacy in to hopefully resolve this issue peacefully."

TO: ALL TROOPS OF THE IMPERIAL ARMED FORCES OF THE GRANGALE EMPIRE
FROM: IMPERIAL GENERAL HEADQUARTERS

ORDERS:

All troops currently engaging the Republic of Byronmandy are to stand down at once. You are not to engage the enemy at this time, you are to attack only if fired upon. Violation of this order will result in SEVERE reprimand. That is all.

-----

--- Elsewhere ---

Admiral Revil had just read the new in comming orders and spoke. "Actually XO, forget about that, something's changed in the situation."

--- Imperial Council Chambers, Directia ---

"They did WHAT?!" Arlington demanded.

"They called for a cease fire, and I passed the order to GHQ to stand down." Reeve said, crossing his arms and leaning back as he said so.

"Blind... you're all blind. This is just a ploy to but time, time for Wayne to rebuild his armies and come at us again at a later date!" Arlington insisted. "YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF *BLEEP* FOOLS!" Arlington shouted, slamming his fist down on the table.

Ashley and Lauerdale exchanged sideways glances. This was the first time anyone in the council had seen Arlington just about lose his temper.

"We have to crush them here and NOW, so they can never threaten us again!" Arlington said, in a more calm manner.

"Our allies already have, haven't YOU been paying attention to the news?" Ashley retorted. "You won't be satisfied unless we're marching on Allentown will you? Actually no don't answer that..."

"You trying to pick a fight Ashley!" Arlington threatend.

"That's it! BOTH of you, cool it!" Raines said getting up. Raines then looked at Arlington. "Arlington, we agreed to the ceasefire, that is done, for now the war is on pause and you can stop with your propaganda sniping for now. Have drink, take a smoke, what ever you need to do, just COOL IT ok?"

First: a morning call with Celatoria

Helene woke again hours after her discussion with Secretary Adair, she saw the Chancellory was calling from Celatoria.

"ah Chancellor, I apologize for calling so early," Helene said while trying not to yawn. "I did wish to speak with you over the matter of Byronmandy threatening war against San Lumen. While we are aware Byronmandy has since withdrawn their threat, we are still concerned about security along San Lumen's borders. We are curious as to how Celatoria has responded to the issue and are interested in gaining advice on how best to deal with Byronmandy at this time.

Oh, i was curious if your King received the memo from my staff in preperation for the Vienna conference?"

----------------------------------------------------------------------

President Jason Fillweed was preparing for a quick teleconference with San Lumen. His speech in Provincetown went off without a hitch, as he praised the spirit of the Northerns in this time of chaos not to be drawn into an ill-gotten war. He knew that San Lumen was expecting Helene but she was on a call to Celatoria and while he saw her fuming that Byronmandy had refused to call her back, chose wisely to handle relations with San Lumen.

"Prime Minister Lantingham, it is a pleasure to see you." Jason said after links were set and the Prime Minister and two of her secretaries were present. "We are calling to discuss the issue of Byronmandy's previous threat against your state due to the Imperial's use of Tunisia to launch their ground invasion. While we are unsure why such a situation occured, we are pleased to hear that Byronmandy has accepted San Lumen's neutrality while also calling for a cessation of hostilities while the conference in Vienna is occuring.

North Chicanan has no long-term military entanglements, due to our nation's pacifist nature and the small nature of the army. However, rest assured that the Northern Government supports the San Lumen people and would reconsider our position if any threat arises towards your state.

At this time, I'd also like to personally thank you and your people for your assistance in the ongoing peacebuilding mission in Yugoslavia. I know the Presidents of Serbia, Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Sarajev are just as thankful for your generous support."

He coughed and gathered his thoughts.

"I do hope in the near future our states may work towards closer relations and while conflict is never a proper time to begin diplomatic relations, rest assure your state has a supportive ally in North Chicanan."

He figured any discussion on security could occur after a brief discussion and pleasantries were exchanged.
----------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile in the Government tower, Helene and Jason's personal secretaries (sure they are Chief of Staff, but let's call a spade a spade) discussed the Vienna meeting and the phone tag from the previous night.

"So Robbie, should we make ready the possibility of talks in St. John's?

"That would be your area of expertise, Gio. I think that Byronmandy finally gets it that they lost though, so maybe?"

"But Robbie, didn't Monaco attack first?"

"Yeah...but then there's the whole debate of Byronmandy sending that many troops at one time and a question of security. And Their president was a bit of an ass during his opening press conference."

"So we wait on Vienna?"

"No, we wait on Helene. Even if their conference is a success she still called for Byronmandy and Monaco to meet here. It's her call. Besides, like the Pharaoh would meet with Wayne in Florence."

"True, true..."

Robbie's phone went off, Helene had called for him. Both headed towards their executives to see how meetings had progressed.

Secretary Adair had been running all over Allentown after the Republic accepted San Lumen’s statement. He was nearly done, and after finishing a phone call with a Major-General, remembered that he was supposed to call First Minister Aremstrang back. He rushed into his office, making sure to turn and lock the door while he did so, ensuring that no one will bother him. He had talked to the president earlier about what Mrs. Aremstrang said, and asked if it was alright if he be the one that called back. President Wayne was fine with it and after a brief talk, they each went about their own business.

Adair picked up the phone to North Chicanan and listened as it began to ring…

Prime Minister Lantingham was surprised it was President Fillweed calling but she was pleased to meet him nonetheless. President Fillweed was more handsome than she expected.
"It is pleasure to meet you at last President Fillweed. I am unsure too as too exactly how the situation in Tunisia arose. We are too pleased that Byronmandy has ceased hostilities. I am very glad to hear we have your full support. Regarding the humanitarian mission in the Balkans your most welcome. The people there need everything from law and order to medical supplies, food you name it. The Royal Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy are glad to help out. You may use Trieste Air Force Base for as long as you need too. Its also good to know we are not the only nation with a small army. You are right that while conflict is not a proper time to begin diplomatic relations at least we have them now. I hope this is the beginning of a long and strong friendship." Prime Minister Lantingham said awaiting the response of the President.

--- Somewhere in the middle of nowhere the former Ixzaran Republic ---

Private Richard Craig was bored out of his mind, manning the MG-3 at a security checkpoint along the southern boarder of the Istanbul District. Ever since the warlords in the area had been defeated, little of anything happened at these checkpoints, the only thing that kept him from going insane with boredom was a PSP he had bought in Istanbul. Despite paying nearly twice the regular price, he still didn't feel ripped off. Just then off in the distance he could see a truck approaching, he grabbed a nearby Dragunov sniper rifle and peered though the scope, huh... Celatorians?

A moment later a Celtorian army truck pulled up. "Hey! Thought you guys might be bored and starving out here in the middle of nowhere!" The driver of the truck called out. A burly looking man with corporal's insignias hopped off the back of the truck, "call this a little unofficial diplomatic exchange!" he said as he hauled what looked like a keg off the back of the truck.

Privates Vladimir Radenski, Toji Inoue, and Corporal Mathiu Ridley were in the middle of a poker game inside the trailer serving as a checkpoint guard shack when they heard Craig yelling at them to come outside. The three soliders came out to find a flimsy poker table set up, a portable bbq grill with what looked like beef ribs cooking, and finally what looked like a keg and some plastic cups. "Hey, you guys down for cards!" The driver, Sergent Kohl called out. The Celatorian soldiers were out on patrol and figured the soldiers manning the checkpoints would be equally as bored, so they snuck off to one of the smaller towns bought some food and drink and decided to find some equally bored checkpoint guards.

After a few hours Sgt. Kohl mentioned they needed to get back to camp. "You guys are alright!"

"You're some upstanding guys yourselves, see ya around!" Ridley said as he waived them off. Ridley stayed outside at the MG-3 while the others went back into the trailer, they still had another two hours before shift change.

Chancellor Bentham responded to Helene

"Although we do not savour any threats being made, particularly towards a neighbour of ours with whom we have particularly strong relations, we will admit that San Lumen's actions were not truly neutral. That been said, we had little reason to suspect that Byronmandy would actually attack San Lumen and so we did not feel it would be in anybody's interests for us to intervene.

Now that the issue has been resolved, thankfully without war, and San Lumen's neutrality restored, we will return to our usual policy of intervening where possible to defend neutral nations.

Regarding your memo, we did receive it. It is mostly in line with what we already planned to address at the conference, but it raises several interesting issues. We shall try our best to use the conference to, if not resolve the war, at least bring it to the negotiation stage."

(OOC: Grangale, I really like that last post, things like that give the RP a bit of flavour. )

Al-Meghreb, Sahara: Field Marshal Varus and his general staff approached a bloodied group of survivors from the 1st North African division. The 1st suicidally attacked the entire Imperial army so the remnants of the southern portion of Byronmandys army could escape into Algeria. The 1st's brave action allowed the Republics army to retreat but resulted in the entire unit being slaughtered, early casualty reports were upwards of 75%. "A brave action" the Field Marshal thought, but at such high cost it was sickening.

As the Field Marshal approached the group of men, a bloodied and dirty man, wounded both in the shoulder and and in the leg tried to stand up and salute the Field Marshal. In his sad state however he began to slowly fall backwards. The Field Marshal rushed to him and caught him before he fell to the ground. The man the Field Marshal caught was none other than Field Marshal Felix Gaul commander of the 1st North African Division. The Field Marshal gently put Field Marshal Gaul on the ground and made an aide sent for a chair. Field Marshal Varus then addressed Marshal Gaul "You don't need to salute anyone Marshal Gaul. That was one of the bravest things I've ever seen. I've sent for my personal physician to tend to you. I'll also be writing to your high command and making sure they accommodate you with there highest honors.".

With Byronmandy calling for a truce and the Imperials unable to completely destroy the republics army in total, the war was likely over. The Sahara region however was still buzzing however, the Imperial Air Corps flew the 28th, 29th, 30th, and the 31st divisions into air bases Imperial army engineers had quickly created. Air support was now flying above the Imperial Army divisions and were patrolling over Sahara. With Byronmandy pushed out of the Sahara, the country in ruins, and the Imperial army clearly in control of Sahara, Sahara's leader did not survive the war. Opposing political opponents and tribes quickly captured and executed him. General Ade Tunji emerged as the the strong man in Sahara and pledged close relations with the Empire. The Empire in turn offered to practically fund his regime. "Not Algeria." Field Marshal Varus thought "But not bad.".

........................................

Alexandria-Monaco-Ville-Nice: Pharaoh Mark Antony watched President Wayne's address with a smirk on his face in the Imperial High Command headquarters. He had achieved every goal the Empire had sent and then some. Though he admitted capturing Algeria would have been the topping on a humiliation of Byronmandy cake. The war however was becoming quite expensive in both terms of solidus, material, and men. He could have Algeria if he wanted it, but at what cost? In less than a week the Imperial army crushed much of the Republics North African troops and sank nearly half there navy. "Pharaoh Mark Antony the Great" the Pharaoh softly said. The Pharaoh had placed himself in the upper crust of military thinkers and he knew if he attacked Algeria he could have it but with massive losses. "Why tarnish the swift brilliance of our campaign he thought?".

Knowing what he had to do he turned to Defense Minister Ptah and spoke "We've achieved all our objectives, Goal one prevent Byronmandy from landing in Ixzara, Remove any Byronmandian influence from the east, inflict massive losses on there armed forces, and humiliate President Wayne.". The Defense Minister then spoke "Shall we agree to a ceasefire?". The Pharaoh smile and said "I grow tired of slaughtering Byronmandy's armies, the Empire shall agree!". All in the room applauded the Pharaoh who soaked in all the attention.

When news of Byronmandy requesting a ceasefire reached the streets in Alexandria there was jubilation. People partied and drank in the streets. They embraced, kissed, danced, and sang. This was clearly a high point for the modern history of the Empire. The citizens of the Empire knew they were a part of history as they partied into the night. Fireworks erupted over nearly every town from the jewel of the east in Alexandria to the smallest desert village. True enough the war wasn't over, but the Empire forced Byronmandy to ask the Empire for a ceasefire. To the proud people of Monaco-Ville-Nice that was everything.

(OOC: I wanted to lighten the mood a little and have a creative way for the Grangale and Celatoria troops to meet up.)

--- Istanbul District Jail ---

"Hey, you got a visitor!" The jailer said as he banged on the door to Richard Allenby's cell. The lieutenant had been keeping busy by reading various books and by making charcoal drawings. Who could... Before he could complete the thought the door opened and there stood Commodore Iskander Ramius.

"Commodore!" Richard immediately stood and snapped to attention.

"At ease, how have they been treating you?" Ramius said as he walked in and took a seat on a chair across from the cot Allenby was lying on. By the door way stood a marine with his hand on an MP-5, as if to say 'don't try anything funny'.

"We've been treated pretty well, we've been getting 3 full meals of believe it or not, edible food, and we get a good couple hours outside in the exercise yard, away from the normal inmates." The other said as he seated himself on the cot.

"Well I came to tell you some good news and bad news... This being war and all I hope you understand. Bad news is, the Monaco-Ville-Nice Army has pretty much driven the Byronmandy Army all the way way back to Algeria."

The news hit Allenby like a ton of bricks, "H-How? That's impossible!"

Ramius looked down to avoid eye contact, and let the new sink in before speaking again. He placed a newspaper he was holding onto Allenby's cot, the headline article covered the desert offensive. "The good news is, a cease fire has been called and you might be going home soon."

Ramius and Allenby chatted for awhile longer, mostly about the books he'd read and Ramius complimented his drawings, remarking they looked professional. Afterwards, Ramius returned to the Venator, the 4th would be participating in the next phase of Colonel Kemal's offensive.
