(OOC: Heh so this is what goes down here? You leave for a day or so and come back with a war on your hands?) ---GIS Venator, Somewhere in the Aegean Sea--- The 4th Fleet made it to the Aegean Sea without incident, and was now making for the Bosphorus. “Hey Boss check it out...” Captain Jintao gestured with a pair of binoculars. Ramius walked to the front of the bridge where Jintao stood. He took the binoculars from him and peered out where he was pointing. Off in the distance, was what appeared to be a lifeboat with about 4 or 5 people in it. “Send out and a heli and pick them up, who knows how long they've been out there.” Ramius ordered. A moment later a SH-60J lifted off from the Venator's flight deck and flew out to pick up the survivors. The helicopter crew reported that they had picked up 4 men who were, starving, dehydrated, and half dead from exposure. And that they were Byronmandy sailors. “Great, just what we need, POWs to take care of.” Ramius muttered under their breath. “So what should we do with them when once they're aboard?” Jintao asked. “Take them to sick bay and have them looked over, the healthy ones, put them in the brig for the mean time. The others can stay in the sick bay, but I want at least two marines in the sick bay at all times while they're there.” Ramius ordered. Of the four, two appeared to be with the Byronmandy army while the other two were with the navy. Apparently they were aboard an assault ship that was bombed by Monaco-Ville-Nice. The ranking officer them was a young navy lieutenant, who wasn't as bad off as the other three. He was placed in the brig, in his own cell, he was given a plate of food and plenty of water, with orders from the ship's doctor to drink plenty of water to rehydrate himself. Ramius, along with two marines went down to speak with him. As Ramius apporached his cell, the liuetenant glared at him. The commodore looked him over, man he's just a kid... can't be older than maybe 23, he thought. “What do you want, you imperial bastard?!” the lieutenant snarled. “Well good day to you too lieutenant sunshine.” Ramius retorted. “I decided to come down here and tell you what you have in store next. You're aboard the GIS Venator, we're en route to deliver humanitarian supplies and engineers to Istanbul.” “Wait, this is the Venator? Of the 4th Imperial Fleet?” The lieutenant asked, suddenly perking up. “Yeah, this is indeed her.” What's with him all of a sudden? “Whoa, you're Commodore Iskander Ramius then! You were all over the news with the whole piracy thing. You're something of a minor celebrity amongst my friends, a lot of us were impressed at how you were able to sniff out those pirates, and how most of your theories about them were dead on.” But then his excitement died down. “I wish we could have met under better circumstances though.” “Yeah, I hear you on that one. Anyway once we arrive at Istanbul, you'll be staying at the district jail, until something gets worked out. I'll see to it that your people are taken care of until we arrive.” Ramius explained. “I know heading for imprisonment isn't exactly something to look forward to, but I suppose it's better than not knowing at all.” As Ramius turned to leave, the lieutenant spoke up again. “Commodore, why did you rescue us? We're at war.” “Call it... professional courtesy. It's one thing to kill your opponent on the battlefield, it's another to simply let him die of thirst or starvation out in the middle of nowhere.” Ramius took another step when the lieutenant spoke again. “Commodore, I never gave you my name. Lieutenant Richard Allenby.” He said snapping to attention and saluting. “On the behalf of the others, thank you for the rescue and the medical assistance.” Ramius returned the salute and nodded. “I'll leave you with this kid, war is a nasty and terrible thing. Don't let it get personal, that's when it'll start eating at you.” |

(ooc: Took the words right out of my mouth) "Are you flipping kidding me?!" "Nope. Whole convoy headed towards Ixzaran space attacked." "So the Pharoah is perfectly contect to fight Byronmandy because their new president decided to push too hard?" "Yep. Veomo and the Grangales are involved as well." Helene was aggravated and Abraham Lovell was confused. Since when does trying to stabilize a state result in two other states declaring war. Helene figured the Imperials would be furious that Bryonmandy would get their necks involved and committing 100,000 troops would be beyond ridiculous for any humanitarian assistance but Neocons tended to be far more hawkish. "Any word from the Conservatives or the Catholic Parties?" "Absolutely m'am. They have no interest in war." "At least the Conservatives are thinking for once. How secure are the second and third fleets in Montegrin water-ways?" "Yugoslavia should be secure, even though the triparte government is still trying to convince the Sarajev to join their union rather than join san Lumen." "Joy. What's Celatoria doing?" "Well m'am...they went neutral on the Imperial war and are only planning to work with us in Yugoslavia." "Ah, I see Celatoria is as standoffish on the whole region exploding as we are. Suggestions?" "Obviously we declare neutrality and make clear to both sides they harm one soldier we're involved." "Abe, we have only 11 major divisions and are far to far away to be of assistance to either side." "Of course. But if the Navy is needed to be used we can provide protection. At this point their mission is to secure Yugoslavia and keep it from international interference as they work on rebuilding." "I'll send word to Celatoria of our commitment with them to staying in Yugoslavia. Send word to both Byronmandy and Monaco-Ville-Nice we are neutral in their conflict and call on both sides to end their "war" immediately, for the betterment of the region and to help aid Neoplantan and Ixzaran citizens in their time of need." Helene was aggravated that two states would use Ixzara to go from proxy war to real war and expected the southern continent to be aflame soon. After Lovell left to send word to both parties on Northern neutrality, she spoke with the President. "They are damned and determine to destroy the region, Jason." "Which one?" "Yes." "I hate when you do that." "If the conflict can be contained to Libya and Algeria that's one thing, let them squabble in the desert. But if war comes to the continent or they drag San Lumen into the situation, things shall become more dire." "Byronmandy is expected to take on three opponents?" "Their main threat is always Monaco, Jason. Both want to be the hegemon." 'What about Veomo and the Grangle Empire?" "I expect assistance from the Grangles but they want to keep Istanbul as a colony, which should not happen. And Veomo...well, they are pretty much on the verge of merging the Ukraine and Azerbaijan into their state through war and marriage. Both parties will show links due to the Vienna treay but Celatoria has not." "Helene, get in touch with the Prime Minister of San Lumen. Keep them out of this as long as possible. If two monarchies and the only other major democracy line up against the conflict maybe cooler heads would prevail?" "Indeed. I'd suggest talks but over what I can't say. Dividing the Ixzaran region amongst states for security and then merging them back together in a few years when true stability has returned?" "And the Grangles, Imperials and Byronmanders would do that?" "Probably not. It's a suggestion though. I'll get in touch with Celatoria as well. If the bigger states stay out, maybe the conflict can be contained and squelched." "To think Helene, we have elections in a month and have to campaign during a regional war." "Stability never comes easy Jason. Get ready, you have a speech in an hour." |

Prime Minister Lantingham was still talking the two delegates when her chief of staff gave her a note. It simply read First Minister Helene Aremstrang wants meeting. She immediatetly told her Chief of Staff she would gladly accept and to reply back at once. Prime Minister Lantingham was almost certain she knew what the meeting would be about. She had heard about Celatoria's opposition to the war and North Chicanan's as well. If the Kingdom of San Lumen came out against it as well it could prove critical. She would wait until her meeting with the First Minister to make her statement. Edited by San Lumen, Jul 31 2011, 03:19 PM.

The president sat in his office chair, his eyes glued to the television. This was the darkest day in Byronmandy’s history. He watched the screen as news reports came trailing in. Reporters were in full tears, hardly able to contain themselves as they read what has become of 100,000 of Byronmandy’s young men. The President fared little better. In what world would this be acceptable….To completely wipe out a peaceful army on a humanitarian mission. When President Wayne had sent the Republic’s soldiers, he never thought that this would happen. They were simply doing what everybody else was already doing. Attempting to restore order in a war torn land. When Marshals Scott and Bedivere left that day he never thought it would be the last time that he saw them. Just thinking of his good friend Frederic Scott was too much for him to bear. As pictures of floating and burning bodies flashed across the screen, he nearly fell out of his chair, tears rolling down his cheeks. How could such evil be allowed? The sadness left as anger took its place. Insults and names came out of his mouth, all directed toward that empty and heartless Pharaoh. He grabbed a stapler near him and threw it against the wall. It broke into pieces. He yelled as he wiped the paper off of his desk. Casualty reports estimating over 80,000 dead fell onto the ground. He fell to his knees and wept once more. Outside the presidential office, in the large and crowded Situation room, the spirits were no higher. Aides, analysts and others stood, motionless, their heads lowered, unable to comprehend what had just happened. A lone aide, a woman in her twenties sat clenching a photograph of someone in a military uniform, her expression was one of confusion and sadness. It seemed like hours before the President walked slowly out of his office, in a full suit and tie. He peered around him and tried to take in what was happening. “We will never forget this day,” he said, looking around once more. “Over 80,000 of our sons, brothers, fathers and husbands have been brutally murdered by an evil empire across the desert. Our soldiers sat aboard their ships, sailing toward Levantia, many were occupied eating their lunches in the mess halls when aircraft came from all directions. Our soldiers weren’t given a chance to defend themselves and were viciously attacked, without reason by our enemy in Alexandria. Now for some reason, we have three nations preparing to attack us. The evil dictators that attacked us have friends rushing to their aid, pledging support. They too want to kill Byronmadians. But yet no one, not a single nation, has offered to help us. We, the innocent and bloodied nation, it seems will get no help. Sadly we may have to fight on our own. Trying our best to stave off any further attack from the Empire of Monaco-Ville-Nice, while destroying them every chance we get. This was uncalled for. This was the most evil and cowardly act that I have ever seen a nation commit. MVN has been trying to get at us for years now. They have attempted to provoke us into war many times, and now when we have peacekeeping soldiers, sailing by on a humanitarian mission, they cannot resist the temptation. It just shows us all, including our neighbors to the north, the true face of the Pharaoh and Cleopatra. They were too scared to attack us fairly, but now that they have the chance to slaughter our boys like sitting ducks, they leap at the chance.” Looking toward Secretary of State, Samuel Adair, the president said, “Let it be known, to all of the nations of the region, including Celatoria, North Chicanan and the Seven United Provinces, that we will take all of the help we can get, no matter your government type. Tell them that supplies and food such is not needed. What we really need are allies. We need fellow nations to join us, and show the rest of the world that evil acts like this will not go unchecked.” Secretary Adair smiled a bit and stood and clapped. Soon the whole room was cheering the president. “What puzzles me the most is what the grand duke of Veomo is doing. When we were talking in Kasteel de Haar, and other times, I never would have thought that he would someday have his men kill our soldiers. I sincerely hope, and plead that he not help MVN. Doing so would be an irreversible mistake. Let it be known to other nations of Baradoz that Byronmandy does not want to fight you. This is strictly between the forces of good and evil. If MVN wants an enemy, they sure have one. If their true intentions were to have us crawl into a hole and not speak while they conquer the world, they would not have done something like what just happened. The only explanation for such an act is that they are now preparing for a massive invasion and occupation of Byronmandy itself. This act has done nothing but enrage the entire population of Byronmandy. We will not rest until we have achieved victory or an honorable peace. Yes the challenge will be hard. We are massively outnumbered. 100,000 is a very large number. But yet what we do not have in numbers, we have in spirit. The MVN army is made up almost entirely of conscripts and mercenaries. Our soldiers will fight to the death to protect their homes and families. We are soldiers of freedom. We seek peace, justice and liberty. The soldiers of MVN seek conquest and riches. We will make them pay for what they have done.” *** A couple minutes later, the President was back in his office, this time surrounded by Secretary Adair, General Erwan, and a few other military officers and analysts. They began talking of what to do next. President Wayne looked toward Adair and said, “It is a major priority that San Lumen not enter the conflict on the side of MVN. Tell them to reach into their souls and decide what is right. Let it be known to the entire region that anyone who harbors MVN or Grangale troops will be considered an enemy, and at war with Byronmandy. Also, get the leader of Sahara on the phone. I must talk with him. The Berbers and Taureg have been furious with MVN ever since they took Libya. I will tell them that if they allow Byronmadian troops into their territory, and contribute a small amount of irregulars to our cause, we will give them Libya once it is liberated.” Numerous people shook their heads in agreement. Someone yelled, “Death to Tyrants!” in the background. Jeffery Hanson, a high ranking naval officer spoke next: “Sir, the enemy may outnumber us on land, but at sea they are vulnerable. With Grangale’s fleet, there are a total of five hostile fleets positioned throughout the east Mediterranean. Yes, we have lost two fleets, but we have 8 prepared for battle. With air support, along with the eight aircraft carriers we have left, we could destroy them.” “Very well,” said the President. “God speed Mr. Hanson.” *** With that, the remaining Byronmadian fleets began to move. Also, with permission given by the leader of Sahara, Byronmadian ground troops, nearly 180,000 strong, moved into the desert and began setting up a defensive line. F-35 Fighter Planes flew overhead, looking everywhere for the enemy to come. Abraham Clive, commander of the 2nd North Africa Corps Division watched as his tanks and soldiers prepared for battle. He was confident of their ability. The North Africa Corps had served Byronmandy for hundreds of years, and was made up of the most hardened veterans and soldiers the Republic had to offer. They had served their whole lives in the desert, and were determined to die there if necessary. Meanwhile, one of the biggest armadas in history moved in between Sicily and Tunisia, accompanied by eight massive aircraft carriers. This massive and concentrated force first came upon some scattered fire and air attack off of the coast of Libya. With additional air support from Byronmandy, as well as the carrier group’s own aircraft, the attacks by MVN airbases in Libya and Egypt were mostly held off for now. The concentrated force of firepower and protection that was the Byronmadian Armada moved out through the strait, and around Malta. By now, the MVN fleets were well aware that they were coming and were preparing to move. Jeffery Hanson, aboard his flagship, the BNS Liberty aircraft carrier of the 10th fleet was approached by a junior naval officer. “Sir, we have the Imperial 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th fleets, as well as Grangale’s fleet approaching from the east!” With that said, Sea Marshal Hanson knew what was about to begin. The largest naval battle in world history would commence any minute now. ![]() ![]() A Byronmadian soldier prepares for battle in the Saharan Desert Edited by Byronmandy, Jul 31 2011, 05:31 PM.

I never meant that I defeated your air bases near where they sit. I meant that the fleet was able to destroy most of your aircraft that flew at them from your airbases (if any came). My aircraft accompaniying my fleet are solely defensive. They are to provide air support and protection for the fleet, not offensive bombing and attacks. Sorry for the confusion. |

After a few minutes of drag time, Helene was officially in touch with the Prime Minister of San Lumen. "Prime Minister Lantingham, it is an honor to speak with you today. As you are aware, the region has become more chaotic by the hour and we now stand in war between two mighty states in Byronmandy and Monaco-Ville-Nice. While I am delighted that San Lumen and the Northern government shall soon exchange ambassadors and begin having full relations, I hope to use this time to convince your state to avoid conflict between these powers, be it on either side. While I am aware of San Lumen's work with other monarchies, we feel the conflict brewing between Byronmandy and Monaco-Ville-Nice is ill-timed to help those most desperate of need in the Ixzaran region and in the former realm of Neoplanta, and their actions will only work to further divide the region. As you may know Celatoria and our government have come out against the war and shall remain neutral during the conflict, although we are both shocked at the actions taken by the Imperial army against Byronmander forces whose mission was first and foremost humanitarian. I do hope you have had a chance to weigh the options of this war, and we are interested in how San Lumen will act in this conflict." ------------------ Official statement from the President's Office of North Chicanan: North Chicanan has declared neutrality in the emerging conflict between Byronmandy and Monaco-Ville-Nice. The state is appauled atthe actions taken by both states and calls on all hostilities to cease immediately, with both states as well as those involved invited to St. John's to discuss the matter. At this time of great crisis for the region, with the collapse of two states and the needs of many not fully being addressed, we question the need for war between senior states to address concerns for the future, and we will not be a part of any conflict. However, should any Northern ship or citizen be harmed in the course of this war, North Chicanan will be forced to respond. We take our neutrality seriously and if states wish to remain committed to war rather than peace, we expect them to respect and honor our neutrality while we work with the citizens of Yugoslavia and in Sarajevo to rebuild and better the lives of those already affected by the collapse of Neoplanta. We continue to work with our friends in Celatoria, who have also declared their neutrality on the issue, and call for all states involved to put their weapons down and work together to help the people of the region, not to use this time as a means of war. --- GIS Muspellheim, Somewhere in the Persian Gulf --- While the 6th Fleet and most of the 7th made their way up the Red Sea, Admiral Victor Revil, the overall commander held back the flagship and four escorts. He had several derelict oil tankers bought from several neutral nations along the way and was having his gunners get some target practice and get their "dope" set. The Iowa-class battleship had updated electronics enhancing her already impressive command and control abilities. She could hit a target over the horizon while maneuvering. He wanted his gunners to get reacquainted with their tools of trade before entering a combat zone. (OOC: Iowa's with WWII era equipment were already able to do this) Specifically Admiral Revil had his gunners target the bridge of each tanker, which was not too unlike the conning tower of an aircraft carrier, from over the horizon while the ship was maneuvering. Unlike ships of the past, modern warships relied on ECM and agility over armor to protect them. They were quick and agile featherweight boxers next to the heavy weight brawler that the Muspellheim was. All it took was a single broadside to sink a modern warship. ECM was useless against a "dumb" cannon shell with no brain to confuse, and a skilled gunner could still hit an evading target. Though the latter wouldn't matter all that much, carriers were hardly agile. While her anti-air capabilities were still low, she was always accompanied by two Sovermennny-class destroyers and two Takanami-class destroyers. The 7th also had a Charles de Gaulle-class and the flagship of the 6th was of the same class as well. For the first half of the long journey, Revil had Captain Hayase of the GIS Niebelheim to lock all of her pilots in the simulator room and train for heavy anti-air engagements, including dogfights against stealth aircraft. Order of battle for the 7th Fleet was to protect the flagship from air and submarine attacks, as well as use their ECM and other counter measures to defeat missile attacks, while she pounded on the surface combatants of the opposing fleet. Revil watched the performance of his gunners and could say that he was quite pleased with them. --- Press Room, Imperial District, Imperial Capital City Directia. --- Councilor Heidegger looked into the camera in the Press Room and spoke. "In response to North Chicanan's offer to mediate, we will accept the offer and come to the negotiating table, if and only IF, our allies agree to do likewise. We will not pursue a separate peace. In addition to ease the concerns of North Chicanan's all Grangale Imperial forces have orders not to fire upon any nation not currently engaged in war with the Empire, unless fired upon first. That is all." Edited by Grangale Empire, Jul 31 2011, 05:57 PM.

On board of the Gerveroux the Grand Duchy Guard Unit had encountered the remains of an insane attack. There were bodies and blood everywhere. "Captain, this is a bloody ghost ship" one of the soldier said. "Check every corner for survivors and evidence on which damn godforsaken people did this." Captain Klirj's then informed the Grand Ducal Navy on their findings. Meanwhile, the 1st and 2nd Fleets, supported by the GDAF stroke the remaining ships of Admiral Uzun and Commodore Burakgazi in a clamp movement, getting the north flank of Uzun's and the rear of Burakgazi's while their vanguards fought each other. When they realized what had happened, it was too late. The Grand Duchy was now controling former-Ixzaran northern shores. The Bosphorus was clear when the Ramius Fleet arrived to the Agean, and Admiral Uzun Fleet was almost entirely obliterated. A Maritime Patrol EMB145 flew over Ramius Fleet, and hailed them. "The Grand Ducal Navy welcomes the GIS Venator and the 4th Fleet of Grangale to the Bosphorus." ----- Meanwhile at Ukraine. Premier Kendar was facing a major crowd in Kiev's Independence Square. "People of Ukraine, citizens of Kiev. By decision of the Grand Ducal Parliament, general elections for local, and regional governments will be held on the twentieth of August and first of September respectively, both of them will be supervised by the Electoral Court of the Grand Duchy of Veomo, so that no forgery shall happen." Shouts and cheers burst from the crowd. The Premier asked for silence, and once there was, he continued: "Grand Ducal troops, have already begun to train your new law enforcement forces, and the Grand Ducal government has already prepared a plan for the progressive withdraw of the Grand Ducal army until the decisive status of Ukraine is determined. A referendum will be held in one week from this day, so that the people of Ukraine may decide their future. Until then, the Grand ducal Parliament has given Ukraine the status of Protectorate." It was in motion now. In one week the future of Ukraine would be decided. ------- In Vienna the Grand Duke was preparing to go home, while in Krasnodar the Royal Family was welcoming the return of their youngest son, Prince Alexi whom had recently been on board of the GIS Venator, during the pirate campaign and had left since the Grangale fleet was ordered to go to Istanbul. In a press conference, HM Vasily VII imbued Prince Alexi with the rank of Vice Admiral of the Krasnodarian Fleet, and would be commanding the destroyer squadron of the fleet, under the orders of Admiral Filip, his uncle and Commander of the Krasnodarian Navy, and of the King himself. |
