Emperor Julii was slightly irked at the idea that it was the Empire's ego that took them into Izxaran. "Perhaps if We traced the steps of how We came to be involved in Izxaran it would shed some light on how the situation came to be. Not long after the collapse, two airliners full of refugees arrived at Murska Air Base in the Empire. The captain of one airliner happened to be Colonel Kemal's brother-in-law who told us of the situation and pleaded to us to help his brother-in-law. While I happened to be away at Vienna, I granted the Imperial Council authority to act on the matter. It was decided to send half of an army division and half of an air division, and later the 4th Fleet to support Colonel Kemal, after we were informed that troops loyal to warlords were carrying out genocide. We contacted him, though his brother-in-law and made arraignments, that upon landing the troops would be placed under his command. Things appeared to be on the way to stability, when Byronmandy entered the stage with their hostile rhetoric, and such a large deployment of troops. We were already committed to assisting Colonel Kemal and suddenly We were an "occupying force" with 100,000 unfriendly... troops coming our direction? We had no intent to abandon our commitment and with President Wayne's attitude it appeared that conflict was inevitable. Our 10,000 ground troops to their 100,000, our military analysts concluded that a Byronmandian invasion of the Istanbul District under the pretense of "liberating" it from an occupying force was 90% under the current political leadership. A few may argue that the Vienna Charter would have deterred that, however We will point out that it only goes into effect when a member's home territory is attacked. Monaco-Ville-Nice appeared to come to the same conclusion, when they attacked We joined on their side to prevent that scenario from occurring. We are not defending our actions, only trying show the chain of events from our point, since we won't have a proper idea in which direction to go, if we do not know where we are coming from. Furthermore We feel looking at things as a matter of ego is not looking deep enough into matter and would only hinder attempts as a viable and effective solution. As to a solution, We concur with the Grand Duke and the Queen." The Emperor was careful to chose the tone he spoke and kept the tone neutral. He didn't want the conference today to taint the over lunch discussion he would have with the S.U.P. representatives regarding Nova Zembla. |

The Stadhouder listened carefully to the Emperor and stood up to take the word again. Much to the dislike of the Raadspensionaris who still feared the worst, he knew the Stadhouder loved discussions like this. The Stadhouder said 'With all do respect Emperor, but are you saying that you fought a war because you feared a war? Don't you think that is a slight contradiction? And even if it isn't contradictory, does a chance of war of 90% justify one? Or is the remaining 10% chance of peace worth trying to avoid the war, to avoid the death of half a million individuals in this case?' The Stadhouder sat down again. |

The Emperor was about to speak, but noticed the members of the Northern delegations starting to glare at the two parties. He was well aware that they did not want the discussion to center on the war, at least not yet. "This is not the time to get into that discussion. As We've stated We only wished to lay out a chain of events as to how Baradoz arrived at the current situation. There needed to be context to the current situation as planning done in a vacuum would not be the wisest way to approach the matter. If Monaco-Ville-Nice or Byronmandy wishes to add to the context of the matter as a whole, We invite them to. The war is inexorably linked to the situation in Ixzaria and any talk of the one subject will involve the other, but the war is not our focus today or why North Chicanan called us all here. If you wish We would be more than willing to discuss the war at a later date outside of these walls." Emperor Julii replied coolly, his expression a blank poker face that could have been chiseled out of solid granite. (OOC: Since Byronmandy is going to be gone a week, I think should probably pause here for now.) |

Helene was thrilled her glare worked to kill the burgeoning debate on the war. Byronmandy was quiet taking things in and the Imperials had enough support for their proposal, so why have two states go back and forth over who was right to go to war. "At this time, in order to allow states to discuss the matter as well as other issues, I propose a "short (ooc: so a week) recess on the discussion so all may examine the Vienna proposal. During this time meetings amongst the states would be allowed, of course, and we offer several rooms adjacent to the Hall for use." Seeing no debate raised, the opening session adjourned to discuss the Vienna proposal. (ooc: since Byronmandy is out, we'll use this stretch to do the rp's of afternoon meetings planned already and if anyone else would like to set up meetings/politic to punish Byronmandy or MNV for the war/sexy time/what have you) Helene and Jason spoke after the leaders left. "I'm not thrilled about Monaco staying on the coast and the whole partitioning of the Anatolia sounds a bit fishy in the long run, but the plan seems solid enough." Jason said as they headed to the Assembly, where food was being prepared. "Agreed. But I'm afraid if we accept the proposal now we'll see the meeting disintegrate over the merits of war. Not that we reject it of course, but we should see if the Darji will participate in the program. I had heard rumors over the states that would be involved but they weren't mentioned." Helene didn't say she had heard the Northerners were considered a possible conduit to use to help the Central region, as Northern forces were too low to supply. But if most Imperial and Byronmander forces were left off the region, maybe stability would work. As for the possible partition, they'd deal with it later. "I expect King Edward and King Jason to be along shortly. Should we have Conference Room C used?" "Of course. It's a better view out onto the gardens, more casual. Perfect place to discuss stronger ties." |

Walking out of the meeting room into a large hallway, King Edward spoke briefly and positively to Chancellor Bentham. Soon they walked onwards. Chancellor Bentham approached the Stathouder of SUP. "King Edward hopes that, despite what he said earlier, you would be available sometime today for the meeting he wished to have. You mentioned informality and he is happy to accept this, as well as meeting at any location you wish. The only condition he wishes to impose is that the discussion be carried out somewhat privately." --------- Kind Edward himself walked towards Conference Room C. On his way he stopped, albeit only for a short while, at a southern facing window. He was reminded that his own land lay in that direction and he felt the slight pang of homesickness and worry that he always felt when he left his Kingdom, despite knowing that Celatoria was well cared for by Prince Henry and the Vice Chancellor, Mr. Robinson. He moved on quickly, and the thoughts soon left his mind. He arrived at Conference Room C before long, greeting Helene and Jason when he did so. "I hope I have arrived on time?" "Certainly." "Ah, excellent. I do hope that you will not mind, but my Chancellor shall be arriving shortly also, he has to attend to some minor business for a little while. Have either of you any idea as to when King Jason will be arriving?" |

Emperor Julii walked out of the Hall with Colonel Almathea and Major Sari. "Well the S.U.P. people seem have their own meetings to go to for now. You mentioned that I'd like to speak with them at their own convenience yes?" He said looking over at Almathea. "That is correct your majesty." "Well then that looks like we have the rest of the night free. Ugh, I need a break from being Emperor, what say we go grab Kiryu and tour the city? You're invited too Major." At 29 years old Julii zi Grangalia XIII was one of the youngest to ascend to the throne after his predecessor died of breast cancer. There were times where he wanted to sneak away from the title of Emperor of the Grangale Empire, and just be an average citizen again for awhile. This was one of those times. As they left they were approached by the Pharaoh with an offer for a few rounds of golf. "Hmm, I've already made plans for later tonight, I'd like to get away from politics and this damned title of Emperor of the Grangale Empire for a bit, but a few rounds of golf before it gets dark would be relaxing." The Emperor commented, "What do the rest of you think?" He said looking over at King Dizwhar and the Grand Duke. ------ Later that night, the three were back at their villia, the two Colonels traded out their Imperial Guards uniforms for casual street clothes. Kiryu traded out his for a pair of tan slacks, a light cream long sleeve shirt and a bomber style jacket, his Glock 18 automatic pistol stored in a holster at the small of his back. Almathea wore a red and black corset with a tight skirt, thigh high leather boots, a black leather choker and a short leather jacket. Don't let the Pharaoh see you like that... The Emperor quipped to himself. Her boots were custom made to hide a combat knife in one and throwing knifes in the other, she kept a snubnose .357 hidden in her jacket. The Emperor opted for something simple, a midnight blue cotton dress shirt, tan cargo pants and the leather jacket he purchased from Vienna, of course he was armed as well, his Mk.23 pistol hidden away in his jacket. Major Sari declined the invitation, some thing about having to file a report with Colonel Kemal. "I hear this city is known for its live theater. Lets catch dinner at some local hole in the wall place and see if we can catch a show tonight. Oh an tonight, I'm not Emperor Julii zi Grangalia XIII, I'm just Citizen Fyodor Veld." And so the three citizens left, not in a limo, but a taxi cab, not as foreign dignitaries, but as everyday tourists. Edited by Grangale Empire, Aug 14 2011, 11:32 PM.

Once it was decided the Conference would take a recess the Pharaoh breathed a sigh of relief and said "Excellent! Off to bed then." causing the Queen to say in a stern voice "Oh no! I am going to use this time to extend our charitable reach into North Chicanan and then go high street shopping and go to see the sights. You're going to handle the politics for the day. They're will be no sleeping off of your hangover for you!". The Pharaoh laughed and said "Very well! No rest for the weary I suppose.". The Pharaoh stood up from his chair and kissed Queen Cleopatra on the forehead saying "Don't worry, it's all under control. I won't disappoint you." and then slowly walked over to Emperor Julii with an idea to make the day more bearable. Approaching the Emperor the Pharaoh said "Emperor Julii! I have an excellent idea on how to use this recess." the Pharaoh then noticed the Grand Duke and King Dizwhar were nearby and then invited them over as well. The men then huddled together wondering what the Pharaoh had thought of. The Pharaoh noticed Colonel Almathea and winked with a cocky smile and then began speaking " North Chicanan has the oldest and some of the most legendary golf courses in the world. I was thinking since we have been given this recess to better talk our alliances proposal over, we would hit the links, play a round and talk over some issues. I find politicking is best when played over a round. What do you esteemed leaders think?". Queen Cleopatra was talking to Foreign Minister Nelson Beaudelairen " Contact the First Minister and try and arrange a meeting with either her or a high ranking member of her staff as soon as possible.". The Foreign Minister nodded and spoke " I'll have Wiggins get in contact with local leaders in St. Johns before I contact the First Minister to arrange for your security and destinations.". The Queen then thanked the Foreign Minister and suggested to him "Hmmm perhaps I'll invite Grand Duchess Tasha to come with me? She might enjoy some charity and every girl loves shopping.". The Foreign Minister nodded saying "Seems like a good idea. I'll get to my work and let you know the details.". The Queen smiled and walked over to where the Pharaoh and the other leaders had gathered. Waiting until when the leaders had stopped talking and focused on her, the Queen began to speak " Grand Duke! Excellent to see you again. I'm off to St. John's to visit some charities and make some Imperial donations, also figured I would do some shopping in St. John's legendary vintage shops. I was thinking it would be a great opportunity to meet your lovely wife. I would love it if she would join me for the day.". The Queen and Pharaoh then waited for there respective answers. .......................... Foreign Minister Nelson Beaudelairen arranged with the local government in St. John's to have the Queen visit a large food bank in St. John's north end, a woman's shelter in one of St. John's eastern neighborhoods, a visit to the Tower of St. Johns, and then shopping on High Street. He then got out his phone and texted the First Minister saying "I was wondering if either you or a member of your staff could meet with me at your earliest convenience to discuss a matter of great importance to the successful outcome of this conference.". |

It had been years since King Dizhwar last played a round of golf. He found it to be a very relaxing game, and had no disagreeable bone in his body in the notion that it was an ideal way to go about politicking. "I took up golf back in my college days in Sweden. We don't have many courses in Darjistan, unfortunately, it is something I intend to change in the coming years. However, it doesn't seem to take me long to shake the rust whenever I do get back into it from a long hiatus. It sounds like an excellent idea Pharaoh; and as I missed a great deal in my absence from the emergency meeting in Vienna, I am interested in hearing yours, the Grand Dukes', and Emperor Julii's personal thoughts on the matter, if he chooses to come along as well. As well as weigh in with my own. So I gladly, and humbly accept your invitation." He then turned to the Queen and began to speak. "Regrettably, I do not have a wife who can join in your company, but I do hope your day goes well, and that you can take in the great shopping, and culture that North Chicanan has to offer." He then smiled to the Queen, and to the Pharaoh before turning to the Grand Duke to see if he too, would be interested in the friendly match on the links. As he imagined the Northern Links, and thought to himself that he should push creating more courses in Darjistan higher up on his list of priorities. (OOC, are we going to start new threads for these side meetings? It might be easier for Byro to catch up if we do, or at least, make it possible for him to come straight back to this meeting before reading the others.) |
