In the Grand Duchy, as the sun rises, the nation was mourning the Grand Duke, and while most believed the Grand Duchess was with him in St. John, only a few of the highest officers of the Government knew that her plane had been missing since the night before, when it vanished from the Northern's and Celatorian's radars. At first, they hoped it had been just an equipment malfunction, but now they feared the worst. At the RIS building at Baru Hurezumsa Nikolai Andropov was briefing Commander Nika Kurchenko on the recent events and suspicions of the Government. "Nika, you shall leave to St. John immediately, getting there you shall contact Emperor Julii agents. Since the black market operations the Grand Duke had them in high esteem, and the Emperor might know something since he was with the Grand Duke when it happened. Also our delegation got some intel from the Northerns." "Yes Sir." "And Nika, I believe I don't need to tell you to deal with this with the utmost caution. Such an action must have had some help from some devious snake." director Andropov said handing Nika a folder with the information they had about the lost flight of the Grand Duchess. Nika departed from the International Airport that same morning. Since the marriage of the Grand Duke, the succession line had been altered to include the Krasnodarian House, as was agreed by the Grand Duke and King Vasily. Now the succession line was being discussed since there was no blood heir to claim for both crowns and the Grand Duchess was missing. Therefore by the Constitution of Veomo, until the Grand Duchess fate was known, Premier Gustav Kendar, as head of the parliament, shall acts as Regent to the Crown, becoming then both Head of government and of State (something like the Vice-President when the President is temporarily incapacitated). |

--- Somewhere above Baradoz, en route to St. John --- Jinghua Li was wasting no time getting an investigation started. While on the plane she combed though complied reports on potential suspects. General Metran... nah he would have been gunning for the Emperor or Mayor Turan... Prince Alexi... no, he wouldn't kill his own sister... Admiral Uzub... possible, but his power's waned that I don't think he could have done it himself, not without help from someone... Ukranians... possbile, but no one has claimed responsibility for it. If I was some nationalist group they would have bragged about it and started trouble before the Grand Duke's body even hit the ground... Gustav Kendar... possible, there's a motive there, and he's the only one who stood to gain from this... for now it's all just circumstantial evidence, weak circumstantial evidence... Her orders also included keeping the matter of utmost secrecy, even from the Northern government. The reason being the IIS was not certain if there was an insider in the Northern ranks who could have facilitated the assassination. Simply put, at the moment aside from Alliance leaders it was not certain who could be trusted. She hoped the three pieces of evidence she would be collecting (the SV-98 rifle the Imperial Guards recovered, photos and prints from the shell casing, and a hair sample) would give them a starting point. |

As the plane landed at St. John's airport, Nika disembarked as any other civilian from the plane. She headed straight to the Veomese Embassy. "Ambassador Temkoy, I'm Nika Kurchenko, RIS" she said when met the ambassador. "Good day Nika, I believe you'll be in charge of the investigation on our side" "Indeed sir" she answered, "As you certainly know, there are some very sensible issues I must also have a look. And since it is of the utmost interest for the nation, I was requested by the Premier to request you to assume the place of the Grand Duke at the conference and do whatever is in your power to assure it get to good port." "I see." was the answer she got. A few moments later, ambassador Temkoy left to the Cantonal complex, and Nika left to St. John's radar station that was the last contact of the Grand Duchess plane. |

--- Aboard Grangale One, St. John, North Chicanan --- Several members of the Imperial Guards were taking a look at the recovered SV-98 rifle that was recovered. "SV-98, good rifle, I was able to get some range time with it once. Exceptional sniper rifle." A Senior Guardsman commented. The Guardsman, wearing gloves, picked up the rifle and examined it. "Judging by the stamps, this thing looks like it came out of a Ukranian armory... Got some customizations on it too. The adjustable cheek rest there isn't standard... nor is this kind of muzzle break. Someone wanted to make sure this thing got the job done." He said putting the rifle back down. "You're not supposed to be playing with that..." a female voice said behind them. The three Guardsmen turned and saw a woman in an Imperial Guards uniform decorated with colonel's insignias. The three saluted and the Senior Guardsman spoke up. "Sorry ma'am, just wanted to take a look at this and see if there was anything usual about it. My brother owns one and I wanted to compare." "Any word form Agent Li yet?" Colonel Almathea asked. "No not yet..." The other answered. "OK, well..." she took a photo from her pocket. "...I want this added to the evidence pile Li will be picking up." "Who is this...?" The Senior Guardsman asked, looking at the man in the picture. "Not time for you to know yet..." Almathea said in a teasing tone. "I want to know the moment Agent Li arrives, for now, I need to get back to his Majesty." Alamthea said as she turned around. "Yes ma'am!" All three said and saluted. |

--- Somewhere above Baradoz, en route to Directia --- Jingua Li collected all the pieces of evidence that was gathered, the SV-98 rifle, the DNA sample, pictures and prints from the 7.62x54R casing, and the photograph and quickly went back on her way. It was imperative that she returned to the IIS headquarters ASAP. She looked at the photo and wondered if Ulrich Jurgen, now in witness protection going by the name Albrecht Muller had a clue who the man was. |

--St John Radar Station-- Commander Nika Kurchenko had just finished to interview the personnel that was on duty by the time the plane went missing, also at the station she met the northern officer in charge of the investigation. It was very odd though how things came to that point. A hint on the whereabouts of the assassin placed him at a flight to Stockholm the day before. And there was still no clues on what happened to the plane. Nika was instructed to work considering the worst scenario had happened. The Grand Duchess was either dead or captured by whomever was behind this... (OOC: I'll wait for NC to get in touch with Nika on their intel at the Station. and she will then contact Grangale...) |

Meanwhile investigation on the assassination and disappearance of the Grand Duchess plane was undergoing, it came due to time, a incredibly difficult thing to keep the missing plane. Premier Kendar had to make an announcement. The press was gathering at the conference room at the parliament building. "Ladies and gentlemen of the press. It is my sorrow duty to inform that about a week ago, the Grand Duchess plane, in which Her Highness was travelling to St. John went missing from the radars over the northern channel. I want to assure you that our government is working with Northern authorities to find Her Highness. Today the Grand Duke's body is being transported home. His Highness will be public wake at the Ducal Palace for three days, and the funeral will be held on the Wednesday. That's all for now." Leaving no time for questions, Gustav left the press room, and went straight to the Parliament chamber where a extraordinary meeting was being held. The topic, the re-enforcement of the Act 138 of 1735, by which the Premier of the Grand Duchy, becomes the Protector of the Realm, and ruler of the nation during an interregnum. With the arrival of the Premier to the room, silent overcame, with a few signs some troops stood at the doors of the chambers, and some bought up politicians influenced the vote... by the end of the day, Premier Gustav Kendar was the Protector of the Realm and the Parliament was dissolved. Leaving the room one of the loyalists commented, while escorted by the troops "I believe that no matter how healthy is Prince Alexi, I believe he just got a deadly decease." he wouldn't survive the morning. At the Black Sea, Prince Alexi was arriving at his flagship... |

Ramius had just returned to the Venator, he hadn't even made it to his quarters when Jintao met up with him. "You got this private communique in today Boss." The Captain said. "Huh..." Ramius unfold the paper and right away he say the Grand Duchy emblem on the top of the page. ------ TO: Commodore Iskander Ramius FROM: Prince Alexi SUBJECT: Situation in Veomo --- For your eyes only --- Commodore, I will get straight to the point. I am in need of your assistance. I have reason to believe that elements within the Ducal government were behind my brother-in-law's assassination. While the line of succession is still a little cloudy due to how recently our realms were merged, it is a safe bet that my name is on the hit list as well. As such there is no one here in the Ducal military I can fully trust yet. There are some matters I wish to discuss with you, and I request a meeting aboard the Venator as soon as possible. ------ "Jintao get the conference room ready, we're going to have a very important guest..." And hour later a helicopter bearing the Grand Duchy's markings landed on the Venator's deck and, very tired looking Prince Alexi stepped off. |

--- Imperial Capital Directia --- Ulrich Jurgen was just cleaning up after dinner when the phone rang. "May I speak with Albrecht Muller?" Said a male voice on the other line. "...ah yes, this is him." Ulrich replied. He was still getting used to the name that Witness Protection gave him. Ulrich Jurgen was declared missing, he was Albrecht Muller, manager for a trucking company. Of course the trucking company was one of many front companies the Imperial Domestic Security Service used for its Witness Protection Program. "Hello, this Allen Blake, we need you to come to the 'company headquarters' right away, there's something important we need to discuss." Ulrich knew this was code to get himself over to the ISS building. "Yes, I'll be there right away." An hour later Ulrich was standing in an examination room, with a familiar figure, Jinghua Li. She handed him a photo of a man "this guy look familiar to you?" Ulrich looked at the picture and instantly recognized the man, and his blood chilled. "I know this guy, he worked for Kenneth Baker on several occasions. Name was..." Ulrich strugged to remember. "...Dolf Gruber... yeah that was it, Dolf Gruber. This guy is bad news, mercenary, terrorist, and assassin all rolled into one." Jinghua's brow furrowed. "Did you say assassin?" "Yeah, why?" The other asked. "He's the prime suspect in the Grand Duke of Veomo's assasination. You said he works for Baker?" Jinghua said. "Yeah... wait, isn't Baker in Veomo's custody? I read in the papers they picked him up." Ulrich asked. "They did pick him up..." Jinghua said, almost more to herself than to him. Could the Premier have picked him up to get access to his contacts...? "What can you tell me about this guy?" "Well like I said, like a mercenary, terrorist and assassin rolled into one. I could be wrong but I think he was one of the bombers that killed the Izxaran central government. I met the man once come to think about it. We talked about hunting and he started talking about bolt-action rifles, and how much he loved over over semi-autos..." Jinghua continued grilling him late into the night, and some of the pieces were begining to fall into place. She was convinved that the Premier was behind all of it, she just needed more evidence, they needed to link Gruber to Kendar. --- Aboard the GIS Venator --- "For now I only have my suspicions, but if you look at it, Kendar has the most to gain from all this." Prince Alexi said. Alexi, Ramius, and Jintao were gathered in the ship's conference room. "For the most part I still have the loyalty of most of the Krasnodan soldiers, but I don't know who I can trust yet, I don't know who's on Kendar's pay role." Alexi continued. "We should probably get the IIS in on this. It also might be safer for you aboard the Venator." Ramius said. "No, I need to be amongst my sailors at least. But... I would appreciate some of your marines for bodyguards, I can get them Ducal uniforms to blend in, once we know who can be trusted." Alexi answered. "Either way there is an insider amongst Veomo's ranks, there's no other way Uruz could have known the exact position of the 1st Fleet." The Prince continued. "Ok so... what's the general plan?" Ramius asked. "We need to expose Kendar, then I can rally the soldiers from Krasnodar and remove him from power. And I think we can use the Admiral, or at least his documents to expose him." "This... this will be quite an undertaking, we'll have to plan things carefully. For now we'll call in the IIS, I'll try to get a hold of Agent Li." Ramius said. |

TO: The governments of the Vienna Alliance, the Seven United Provinces, and North Chicanan FROM: Imperial Intelligence Service of the Grangale Empire SUBJECT: The prime suspect in the assassination of the Grand Duke --- Confidential -- This man is Dolf Gruber, he is the prime suspect in the assassination of the Grand Duke. He has been identified as an associate of the international criminal Kenneth Baker and is also suspected in the bombings that caused the collapse of the Izxaran central government. He works as a mercenary, a terrorist and an assassin. Gruber is also suspected of having ties to Premier Kendar as well as the warlord Admiral Uruz. We feel it is best to keep the manhunt on the quiet side as to avoid tipping him off that authorities are pursuing him. |
