The Presidential car slowed to a stop after gliding onto the tarmac next to the national jet. Moments later, out stepped President Wayne, holding a few papers and books messily kept under his arm. There wasn’t much of a crowd today, as the diplomatic trip to Celatoria had only recently been planned. With the speed of any 6’4” man, he leapt up the stairs into the aircraft, with a few aides struggling to keep up behind him. He had requested to travel alone on this trip to meet King Edward, as he thought it would be best if there was none of the pressure of a large delegacy. Only a few other aides a dignitaries would be making the trip with him, but none would take part in the formal private talks between the President and the King. Would the Chancellor be there too? The President wondered. He didn’t quite know as yet, but he would be glad to meet any leader of the Republic’s northern neighbor. The President didn’t get to make many trips like this, especially ones without the pressure of peace negotiations or alliance building. He was glad to get out of the mansion and spend some time in Castron. It was a beautiful city, but it had been ages since the last time he went. When the plane finally took off, President Alexander Wayne was already deeply involved in a book about the enlightenment and writing furiously on a notepad every few minutes. He was abnormally tall and thin, and his limbs seemed to spread about in an odd fashion. His hair was dark, and he sported a small but full black beard. His eyes were perhaps his most impressive trait though. He could seem to look into a man’s very soul with one glance. Just by looking at you, it seemed as if he was quietly peering through all of your deepest secrets. His friends felt safe when near him, but his enemies would tremble in his presence. He admittedly got nervous while meeting with other heads of state, but nonetheless he gave off a sense of professionalism that made him immediately seem as if he knew exactly what was happening. The President had hardly even noticed how quickly time had flew when the pilot said they were beginning their final descent into Castron. Before long they were stopped and Wayne was making his final preparations before stepping off of the plane and into the awaiting group of reporters and government officials. |

King Edward had reading the day's newspapers when a member of his staff alerted him to the arrival of the car carrying President Wayne at the palace. Thanking the staff member, the King rose from his chair and strolled into the large hall that served as the entrance to the palace. Chancellor Bentham was waiting for him, as ever, thoroughly prepared for the meeting. Before long, the President had entered the palace, where the King and Chancellor were quick to welcome him. "President Wayne, it is my pleasure to meet you. I realise that we spoke before at the conference in North Chicanan, but it is nice to be able to meet you more personally." said the King enthusiastically. After the Chancellor had greeted the President with much the same sentiment, the King led the President through a large, ornate door into the room where the meeting was to take place. |

“It is a pleasure to meet you, your highness….or would you perhaps prefer King Edward? Sorry, but it appears I haven’t quite realized how I am to address you. I do have to say that I have always enjoyed visiting Celatoria throughout my life, but this, being my first visit as President, will without a doubt be the most important. I do hope that we are able to form a wonderful relationship between our two nations, and perhaps even create a tighter bond between all of western Europe in the process.” With that said, the two men walked into the room and took their seats across from each other. The room was beautifully ornate, as would be expected in a city as marvelous as this. Next two of the most influential men in the world began to talk. This moment was a huge one in international affairs, and was especially well appreciated in Byronmandy. Celatoria has long been a neighbor of the Republic, but strong relations have always been desired even with the two nations as members of opposing alliances. “I do however,” said the President before much talking could begin, “wish to thank you, and the nation of Celatoria as a whole, for your understanding and most gracious attitude during the recent war between us and MVN and Grangale. Celatoria was one of the few nations that bothered to notice we didn’t deserve all that we got and were attacked without due cause. And for that I am extremely thankful.” |

The King replied "Yes, we are terribly sorry for the losses that you suffered in that unfortunate war, you and your countrymen have my deepest condolences. I was lucky enough to meet your predecessor President Philippe several times, a most brilliant fellow. I am certain that he would have handled the war in much the same manner as your government did..." The King seemed to remember something, then rapidly relaunched into the discussion "What do you feel of the peace treaty that was signed between your country, Grangale and MVN?" |

(OOC: I take it that you mean the treaty between my country, Grangale and MVN?) The President sighed a bit, looking down at his hands before lifting his head to once again face the King, “I think with the circumstances that we were in, that was the best possible solution that we would get. I do wish it could have been better, because in any civilized world, the two leaders of MVN would be prosecuted in an international court. They left us few options, and I believe that we did very well in defending ourselves from two enemies that greatly outnumbered us. Nevertheless, the people of Byronmandy are very understanding toward their nation’s leadership, and to me especially. We never could’ve expected MVN to attack us. Our intelligence agency had been saying that some attack was imminent, but we truly never saw it coming. And then after that, we never expected San Lumen, a nation who had fostered a long-time friendly relationship with us would do such a thing as to allow MVN troops into Tunisia, especially after we said that we would consider any such acts as an act of war.” The President looked away and sighed. “I am truly disappointed in San Lumen. I had hoped that they would be able to tell right from wrong, but it appears that the last few years have seen then become a virtual puppet of MVN….It’s quite sad really…. The Republic is very happy, however, with the non-aggression treaties now in place. I had feared that MVN would refuse to sign one, but their acceptance has been quite a relief. I hope that you understand that Byronmandy never had wanted to attack MVN, and that we don’t wish to in the future either. Actually, the parts of the treaty that has had the worst affect were when we agreed to change our motto and apologize for the government statements we issued. It was quite the punch in the gut, if you know what I mean… As for Mr. Philippe, I do have to agree that he was a great man. I never got the chance to be fully acquainted with him, and I am definitely not his protégé. We have our differences in political philosophy, but we are not enemies either. I also wish to say that I am very glad that you and the SUP are friendly. The Provinces are Byronmandy’s closest friend, and our only official ally. The Vienna Alliance may be bigger than the LTO, but I have to say none of the Vienna Alliance nations have nearly as a good a bond as the one between the Provinces and Byronmandy.” |

(OOC: Yes, I meant the treaty between you, Grangale and MVN. I've changed my last post to reflect that, sorry about any confusion.) "I can understand why they wanted the statements withdrawn, but to force a change of motto upon your nation seems somewhat petty, not to mention that it implies they accept themselves as tyrants." The King sighed, before continuing "Regarding San Lumen, although that decision was a poor one, I would ask that you not treat them too harshly. Their King is young and lost his father only a short time ago, but he genuinely means well. We certainly view the SUP positively, and all the more so for the recent agreements we came to with them in North Chicanan. You say that the Vienna alliance is not truly bonded together, and I am inclined to agree to an extent. We in Celatoria, for instance, are only really linked with San Lumen, except for a few historical links with MVN. It is nice to have the security that the Alliance offers, but a government form doesn't make an ally." |

“Yes, well I certainly mean nothing bad in dealing with San Lumen. We have shared a marvelous relationship in the past, and I guess we truly felt betrayed when they let MVN soldiers in. That is all in the past now, however, and Byronmandy is concerned mainly with the future. As for allies, Byronmandy would prefer to have a few great friends than to have a lot of not-so-great friends, if you know what I mean. In my observations of the Vienna Alliance, I have noticed that there seems to be a bit of a divide, at least in my opinion. There is yourself and San Lumen in one camp, and then MVN, Grangale and Darjistan in another, with Veomo somewhere in between. You all have managed to work together on some things, but yet your political ideologies and amount of freedom are amazingly different from nation to nation. Celatoria, and perhaps San Lumen, are without a doubt the most liberal in terms of freedom and civil rights. You may be a constitutional monarchy, but you would still manage to meet the LTO criteria and become a member if you so desired. You, as king, retain some power, but you sir, are no dictator from what I can tell.” The President leaned back in his chair, glad that the conversation has been going so well. “I have also been hearing some rumors that Darjistan is collapsing. They had always been too radical and oppressive to be one of Byronmandy’s friends, but it appears the Vienna Alliance will be just as powerful because they may soon have “Darjistan the sequel” in the form of Ikuani, as a member. I’ve also been watching the ongoing emergency conference in Vienna. I take it that you have a representative there as you are a member of the alliance? I had met the Grand Duke a few times, at Kasteel de Haar and in North Chicanan. We managed to have a few conversations, and I had never expected that he would be assassinated. I’m not sure which side is right, but I would definitely not want to see Veomo fall into civil war. There is really no way to prove which side is right unless something amazing happens, and until then Byronmandy will remain strictly neutral… Perhaps the people of Veomo could simply elect their next leader?” The President laughed “But I’m sure that would never happen. They would rather see their nation fall into civil war than give more freedom to the people.” |

The King withheld a scowl at President Wayne's words, it had been offhand comments like that that had contributed to the war between Byronmandy and MVN. He replied "It is not as simple as that, for what happens there decides the fate of not only Veomo, but Krasnodar too. Even if they were to become a republic, would they remain united, or would they split? It is a difficult issue. Oh, and yes, I have sent my son, the Prince, to represent Celatoria at the conference. " The King's voice assumed a much less serious tone as he continued "My role as King is rather a strange one at the moment, I am afraid. From the beginning of my reign, I have been trying to reform from the dictatorial stance my forefathers preferred, but I am still in complete control of who serves as my chancellor, and largely in control of diplomacy. Chancellor Bentham tells me he may be stepping down shortly though, which will be a terrible loss to the country. I am certain, though, that you will be pleased to hear that I plan to have the next Chancellor chosen by a national election. I will still share power with the Chancellor, but hopefully under this system it will be more of a partnership between the Monarch and the people. I will say that I too have noticed the split in the Alliance, although given the nature of the Alliance I see no problem with that. I am not certain what Ikuani has planned, but if everything is in order, then they will, I am sure, be allowed to join the Vienna Alliance." |

"Yes, I'm sorry. My words were a bit rash... I understand that the situation in Veomo is very complex, and I hope that a peaceful situation will come soon." The President cleared his throat before continuing; clearly a bit embarrassed. “I am fairly familiar with your nations government, and to hear of such a change makes me very happy. Chancellor Bentham is a good man, and I am sorry that he may be leaving, however it will be a glorious day in your country when the people elect their chancellor. It will be a wondrous day in your nation’s history, and I am certain that you will not regret it. I believe that the people of Celatoria will do very well with this new responsibility. I guess now would be a good time to inform you that I plan on hosting a large conference between all of the western European states soon in Allentown. On the list for invitation is yourself, San Lumen, North Chicanan and the SUP considering their historic roots are in western Europe. Hopefully we can all work together to have a tighter bond between all of our nations and be able to effectively coordinate on issues of regional importance. I believe that it will be a necessary step toward greater global security and prosperity.” |

"I am certain that such a conference will be to the benefit of all those involved, I look forward to attending." |
