Comprehensive Rules Shorthand rules Mafia is a game of roleplaying and psychology. Throughout the game, an uninformed mob of players (the citizens) tries to discover the identity of an organized and undercover group (the mafia). The mafia try to avoid being discovered while killing citizens, and the citizens attempt to find and defeat the mafia. Pre-game Before the game, an impartial third party (commonly known as the gamemaster of GM) will randomly distribute roles to all players. There are two main roles: citizen and mafia member. There are actually over nine thousand roles, but not all are used each game. See roles section for more information. Players who are determined to be "Citizens" learn no additional information at the beginning of the game. They have to use their mad skillz to find the mafia members and lynch them. Mafia members are more complicated and way cooler. When given their role, they are also given a list of players who are in the mafia with them. In short, they know who is on their team and who they must defeat. These guys know their team and work together. Gameplay The game is divided into two phases: the night phase and the day phase. Day phase During the day, all players can vote on a lynching. This is a good chance for the citizens to find mafia members and eliminate them. Players simply vote on who to lynch, and the player with the most votes after a certain amount of time will be lynched. Once this happens, that players is dead for the rest of the game and SHOULD NOT CONTACT ANY LIVING PLAYERS IN ANY WAY. Night phase During the night, the mafia can vote to hit someone. This player will become dead and SHOULD NOT CONTACT ANY LIVING PLAYERS IN ANY WAY. This is a chance for the mafia members to gain control of the game and gain a lead on the citizens. Also, other people do other stuff. (People with special roles that act once per night use their special abilities) Endgame The game continues, alternating between day and night phases until one of two things happens: 1. All mafia players are lynched. If this happens, the citizens win! (Even those who died) 2. The mafia kill enough citizens to put their numbers even with the citizens. When this happens, the mafia wins. 3. The game collapses due to inactivity. Please don't let this happens, its more fun if the game finishes. APPENDIX A: Roles Citizen: An average player in an average game. These guys are not very unique, but they are very important. They are crucial in determining the outcome of the game by lynching mafia members. Each game, approximately 2/3 of the players are citizens. Mafia: These are average baddies. They kill citizens at night and try to mislead them at day. The citizens need to watch out for these guys. Each game, approximately 1/3 of the players are mafia members. MORE TO COME. |
