yeah that is what I heard and it made me glad to know it will do remote processing power before it gets on the computer. I am assuming the preview screen on the computer of what is being captured will use very little cpu like a movie player would?

I have duo cores on my desktop and the same with my newer laptop. I may find my newer laptop can stream better than my older desktop. It depends on how much the graphics card plays a role in processing / streaming which I don't think it does. Seems to be just CPU intensive.

Dual core cpu could get bogged down if it was doing all of the video encoding (as it does with the Dazzle products) but with a hardware encoder (like on the Hauppauge cards) most of the work is done by the card and CPU usage should be minimal.

Several years ago I had a Hauppauge PVR 150 running on a MythTv box (linux) with only an 800mhz processor and it ran just fine.

that is awesome, it sounds like I could even run this on my laptop. The only real difference between my laptop and desktop is my desktop has a nice nvidia card that is 1Gb while my laptop has a much lesser one. I am not sure how much 32 vs 64 bit will play a role. My laptop is Windows 7 64 bit with 4GB of ram and 2 cores and my desktop is 2 cores 32 bit Vista with 4GB of ram.

I plan much later this year to build a new computer, by then I could stream insane processing amounts if I wanted but for now what I have tested while running a movie player (to simulate the effects of the capture device) I was not losing too many frame on the stream and quality was great. Even in full screen on justin tv things were not bad quality which is good.

N7R if you are looking for a really cheap quad core CPU, check this out.

AMD

That's a nice price, but it's an older AM2+ chip, only 2.5ghz per core, and will only work with DDR2 ram.

For just a little more, you can pick up something in the 3+Ghz per core, AM3, and will have a DDR3 controller for RAM...

something like This is you are okay with 2.8GHz per core or this is the chip I have in my setup

I was aiming for cheap, not performance.

Roger that. Could be a very solid upgrade for someone too.

Nice, some of the i7 stuff looks sick. I've just always gotten a better 'bang for the buck' out of AMD parts. What graphics card(s) are you looking at?

If you get i7, get the 980X extreme 6 core. Or dont get i7 at all.
