well seeing as how everything is going digital i can see us all eventually going to cloud services. I dont see us actually owning ANYTHING in 10 to 20 years.

You would need some sort of thin client or kiosk though as a client.

That link goes to a new cloud gaming service. It is in it's early stages, but cloud gaming is the wave of the future. It will only be a matter of time. Apply this same concept to Software, Operating Systems and you have the cloud.

So with this cloud stuff nothing is on your computer anymore? It's all streamed from a place on the web or something?

I don't really like the idea of sharing from a pool on the web. I'd rather actually have software on my computer without the need of the internet to use it. That seems really limiting to how the web is now.

That would suck if it really happens. You can kiss goodbye any fun in games or anything for that matter. wtf will happen to the gaming community of pc modding? It would ruin it.

As far as programs go like digital ones like Adobe and maya I would hate that. How would I do my graphic design streaming a program from the web? Not to mention all the cool small and free programs you cna download for free it would be non existent. rofl

Microsoft has a virtual server package that allows you to basically download the program state onto your computer and then run it.

There are cloud services that don't require a web browser. The processing requirements (depending on the program) will still be on the client machine. The difference lies in whose hard drive everything is stored on.

To be honest, I think some services will gravitate towards the cloud and group collaboration (sourceforge, etc.) where as some other programs will remain desktop only (ones where no collaboration is required).
