Name: James William Price-Scott DoB: April 16, 1752 Place of Birth: Boston, MA Place of Residence: Cambridge, MA Profession: Tax Collector, Businessman, Politician Alma Mater: Harvard College Religion: Anglican Church Biography: Born in Boston, Massachusetts in the spring of 1746 to a wealthy plantation owner, George Price-Scott, and the daughter of the Governor of the Province of Massachusetts Bay, Andrea Shirley, James William (named for his grandfather) Price-Scott was raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Newport, Rhode Island and his father's plantation in Richmond, Virginia where he met and befriended his fellow revolutionaries, James Madison and Ethan Mulready (the former informed much of Price-Scott's opinions on the eventual Republic). His time as a tax collector and businessman were failed and it was only after those times when he found his ilk. As an assemblyman in Massachusetts, he was tremendously popular for his fiery rhetoric and whole-hearted defense of independence. His popularity, post-independence, led to his becoming Governor of Massachusetts where he attempted to defend the rights of minorities. He and the Governor of Rhode Island were fierce rivals and often found themselves in arguments over correct governance during the Articles of Confederation. Price-Scott was then appointed to go to Maryland to craft the constitution and has since been elected to the House of Representatives. Political Views: -- Federalist -- Staunch defender of independence -- Supports the Constitution -- Supports a bill of rights |
