Addressed to the state of North Dakota; To the Head of Education, We are writing to ask your permission to open a long-term psychiatric hospital for teenagers aged between thirteen and eighteen with special abilities in writing, acting, artistry, music and dancing. My wife and I think that a family-led school will be beneficial to the pupils mental health, and being at a facility that encourages their creativity will aid their recovery. There have been several studies that show that expressing creativity without fear of recrimination - if a student drew a 'bad' picture showing something negative from their past - can improve students chances of recovery by almost fifteen percent. With all the students are placed in a psychiatric hospital together, and being allowed to share their combined creativity, we believe that they will benefit and leave our facility in a much better condition than when they entered. My wife, Josephine and I have combined experience of fourteen years experience practicing as clinical psychiatrists, both with teenagers and younger people. Josephine did her thesis on elective mutism and how intensive (three times weekly) therapy after a course of three months can lead to a child speaking freely with the majority of people around them, and has written several widely acclaimed papers on both mutism, caused by psychological reasons, and conditions linked to it. I have no particular specialty, but my thesis was upon bipolar disorder and how medications can help as opposed to talking treatment. Since then, I have written a large number of papers on a variety of subjects; such as obsessive love in young people, and Stockholm Syndrome. If we are given permission to start up this psychiatric hospital, we will name it St. Dympha's Psychiatric Hospital for Troubled Youth, named after the patron saint of mental health and mental health institutions. If funding is given within six months, we believe that the school can be running within two years. Attached is a copy of the paperwork: permission forms, a rough idea of staff needed and a request for funding. Yours faithfully, Dr. Gabriel and Josephine Hudson. |
