((ooc: This story starts during Black Widow Queens))

Kameron took another deep breath and smiled again encouragingly as she let the child that had been brought to the altar to receive their Birthright Jewel hug his parents one last time before he took her hand so she could lead him to the altar. He was so excited and nervous she gave his little hand a gentle squeeze to reassure him. He returned her kind smile with a tentative little one of his own. These were the moments she lived for. Later when she returned the beaming child with his new Yellow Jewel clutched in his hand to his parents she watched them proudly congratulate their son with glowing eyes. The sense of contentment and joy surrounding the family as they thanked her and left to return to their home warmed her heart. But she didn't have too much longer to bask in their glow, she had to head off to the Palace to meet Sienna and Jethro.

She still had a hard time believing that she was the High Priestess of Shalador, and dating one of the darkest-jewelled males in the Territory. It was almost surreal feeling. Never in her wildest dreams would she have thought she'd end up going so far and doing so well. She regretted not leaving Dhemlan sooner. Some days she found herself wanting to write Sasha and tell him of her new life. But each time she tried to put he pen to paper she froze, after the bitter note they'd parted on she didn't know how to start. Or if he'd even care. Her whole life she'd gotten used to the idea that she'd never achieve as much as her older siblings but now she was seeing that she was capable of far more than she'd ever given herself credit for. Her new life was a good one and she didn't think it could possibly get any better.

She rode the Rose wind to the Capital and headed to the Palace. Even now she felt a little out of place in the Palace but Sienna's kindness and encouragement had put much of her fears to rest and she kept her head up high as she crossed the floor and sent out a Rose probe to try and locate the Queen. She should report in and tell her of the going's on at the Altar in Sayaia. She found the Queen in close contact with a new physic scent and stopped to think. Yes, the Queen's new ward was supposed to arrive today. Sienna would probably be busy with the girl helping her get settled for a while so Kameron decided to try and track down Jethro. He was far to dark for her to sense so she headed for the kitchen. It was a fair bet he'd have been there recently.

She became positive that the cook would have at least seen him once when the scent of fresh baking wafted up to her. Giggling she imagined Jethro and Luc had probably already made one attempt to pilfer some of the fresh sweets. Perhaps she'd try to swipe a couple cookies for them, the cook still didn't know her well enough to suspect her of such an action. Then again the cook was formidable woman and Kameron wasn't sure wanted to be on the receiving end of her ire if she could always send Jethro running. Better to play it safe for now, she wasn't even sure where Jethro was at the moment or if he'd been successful in his cookie raid.

The cook had indeed seen Jethro and sent him packing and Kameron had to work very hard at not breaking out in laughter as the cook fumed and ranted about grown men who acted like boys and were bad influences on their nephews. Nodding gravely she agreed and then make a quick exit. The cook had told her dinner would be shortly and Kameron decided to check and see if there were any messages for her in the Palace. Some people were still sending them to Sienna, not realizing that Kameron was running the Altar in Sayaia and that was the best place to reach her. It would take a little while for everyone to get the new line of communication figured out so Kameron always checked.

There were a few letters from Priestess in Altars dotted around Shalador and Kameron tucked them into her handbag planning to write back once she returned home. The chiming of a nearby clock called her attention to the time and she realized she was late for dinner. With a little “eep” she hurried towards the dinning room, hoping she wouldn't cause to much of an interruption when she arrived. But as she passed the window she saw something that made her blood run cold. The room spun and she couldn't believe what she was seeing. She couldn't be seeing what she was seeing, could she? Mother Night, Keira was in Shalador?! What in the Name of the Darkness was she doing here?

Kameron cringed back from the window. Keira had always competed with her and if she was here if meant she had to know that she had ascended to High Priestess of Shalador. Keira would never stand for it. And if she found out about her and Jethro her vindictive sister would stop at nothing to try and steal him from her, or at the very least make him change his mind about dating her. No, no, things were going so well, she wailed internally praying that her eyes had deceived her. Peeking back out the window she tensely searched the people walking by the Palace and didn't see Keira. Leaning back against the wall she slid to the floor. There was only one way to be really sure.

They were twins and despite the differences in their Jewel ranks they could always sense each other even over great distances. Sending out a cautious probe she held her breath hoping that she'd sense nothing. The white-hot rage she felt when she made contact with her sister had her biting back a sob. Keira was here, and she was so angry. In response to her tentative search Keira slapped her darker power back at Kameron and the young priestess was left stinging and disoriented for a moment. Then Keira shut down the connection and was gone. Shakily Kameron got to her feet. She'd finally gotten the confidence to leave and start a new life and now Keira had followed her here, she thought miserably. Who knew what kind of trouble Keira was going to try and cause in her usual crusade to be better in every way than her lighter jewelled twin, Kameron mused remorsefully.

Kameron let her shoulders slump as she realized she had to tell Sienna that Keira was around and might try and stir up trouble. Sienna would be far more displeased if Keira pulled something and Kameron hadn't warned her, especially since she hadn't told her about her vicious twin or her competitive nature. And she had to warn Jethro as well. Keira had pretended to be her before and she'd hate for her to try and trick Jethro. All thoughts of dinner were gone and she didn't feel up to joining the others. Sending a request for an audience with Sienna before she turned in Kameron headed for the library. She was sure Sienna would tell Jethro that see was there and he'd seek her out when he was free to do so. Libraries were peaceful places in Kameron's mind and she needed a safe place to calm down after seeing Keira had ruined an otherwise wonderful day. Curling up on the window seat she stared out on the gardens and considered her next course of action. She had a good life here and for the first time it was one worth fighting to keep, if she could find the strength to do so.

Sienna left the dining room after being beckoned by her High Priestess. The girl has sounded a bit distressed over the connection and she had been insistent that she needed to see Sienna first rather than Jethro. Something must have happened since the last time they had all been together.

Sienna entered the library to find Kameron curled up on the window seat, staring out the window. The woman didn’t even look up when she entered. “Kam? Are you alright?” Sienna asked quietly. “Have you eaten? You didn’t join us for dinner.” Kameron responded with a heavy sigh and a murmured response. “Here, I will call for something. You must eat.” Sienna insisted.

The two women waited in silence until a meal was brought up by Martha for Kameron. Sienna watched the Dhelmanese Priestess pick at her food. “What’s the matter darling?” Sienna prodded. “Don’t tell me nothing, I know you better than that.”

Sienna listened silently as the words tumbled from Kameron’s mouth. She told the Queen about her family, and growing up and how horrible her twin had treated her. Sienna reached out and took her hand when Kameron almost broke down and cried when she told Sienna that her twin was here, in Shalador, in the very city. “Shh, it will be alright.” Sienna soothed. “We will figure it out. Have you..” but her statement was interrupted by the front door of the Manor slamming open and then closed again.

The two women could feel the Ebon-Gray charging toward them and waited silently for the Warlord Prince to storm into the room. Jethro barged into the library and barreled straight toward them. “Why didn’t you tell me?” he snarled.

“Jethro,” Sienna warned. The Warlord Prince snarled at her, eyes locked on the trembling Priestess. “Prince Rayne, attend.” Sienna barked at him. The direct order brought him further from the killing edge he had been riding upon entering. “You will be kind, and listen to what she has to say. If I hear you yelling at her I will be very displeased with you. That is an order.” Sienna demanded. Jethro mumbled a response and nodded. “I will leave you to your talk. I will be in my study down the hall if you need me Kameron.” She soothed. *Remember, you hold the leash* she said silently to the still trembling Priestess. *You may not be a Queen, but you still hold the leash.*

“Jethro,” Sienna warned. “Prince Rayne, attend! You will be kind, and listen to what she has to say. If I hear you yelling at her I will be very displeased with you. That is an order.”
THAT made a dent in Jethro’s temper. Drawing a deep breath and releasing his fury, Jethro nodded acknowledgement. Sienna excused herself with some soothing words to Kameron, then left the room. Jethro turned back to Kameron. Seeing the fear in her eyes was a fist in his gut. A wave of shame washed over him as he realized she was at least partially afraid of him. Him, his Jewels, and the temper of a Warlord Prince. Mentally Jethro drop-kicked himself into the next Territory. Damn.

Taking a seat beside her, trying to be as comforting as he could, under the circumstances, Jethro reached for her hands. Looking into her eyes, he kicked himself again for good measure, then pulled her to him, allowing her to bury her face in his chest as she cried. He held her like that for a while, not saying anything, just gently stroking her hair until the sobs ceased and she sat up, wiping her eyes.

“Kameron, I’m so sorry. I was an ass just now, me and my temper. I wouldn’t hurt you for anything. I ran into your twin, and she started trying to cause trouble between us. I guess it worked. I just lost it.” Jethro snorted with sudden amusement, and Kam gave him a quizzical look through the tears still in her eyes. “I’m gonna be in trouble with Sienna, too. I sort of turned those new bushes she really likes into sawdust.”

Jethro figured that laughter would be good for Kameron right now, so he bit his tongue as she began reeling with laughter, collapsing against him once more as she lost all control and just sat there, slumped against him, laughing her ass off at the thought of Sienna’s face when the Queen found out what her First Escort had done in his rage. Jethro settled himself into stoic endurance and waited for the laughing fit to pass before he shifted into what Sienna called “overprotective bully mode.”

“If you’re quite finished,” he began, “you, my dearest, are going to eat at least half of that food you were picking at when I came in. Then, I think a long soak in a hot tub is in order, and after that we can just relax in our suite. I’ll even read to you or something, if you like.” Jethro waited, hoping his offering would be enough to get him out of trouble, with Kameron, anyway.

Kameron looked up at Jethro and felt her heart melt. Despite his temper there were benefits to having a Warlord Prince as a lover, he was wonderfully protective. And sometimes his fussing meant she got a little pampering, something she was not good at doing for herself. And she very much looked forward to soaking in the tub and then spending time with him. She loved listening to him read, for her there was almost no better way to fall asleep. Well, there was one but she wasn't quiet bold enough to bring that up in Sienna's study, especially when she knew the Queen was close. Besides, she figured the blush that splashed across her pale face would probably betray her anyway. She never could hide anything from him.

But she still had to tell him about her past, Keira and Sasha and everything else. With a sigh she held up her hand to get his attention. “I have to tell you about Keira, and the rest of my family,” she told him twining her fingers with his hoping he would understand and not think of her as a coward for getting away from them. Taking a deep breath she poured out the tale of how competitive Keira had always been with her, of Sasha's grief at her mother's death and how he had nearly killed their father for failing to protect her. She told Jethro of how Sasha changed, became cold and indifferent and how Keira and him refused to hear her plea for them to change their ways. Finally she told him of how she left to start a new life away from them.

He listened patiently, occasionally rubbing his fingers along hers to help her stay come throughout her tale. When she finished she managed a shaky breath. “I hope you don't think I was weak to leave Dhemlan to get away from them. I just couldn't keep living there and watch them continue to live like that,” she said, a pang of regret filling her as she remembered the good person her brother had once been. There really hadn't been much hope in her heart for Keira, but she was still her sister and in some way she would always wish the very best for her.

The look Jethro gave her was eloquent. Of course he didn't think she was coward he assured her. And he then returned to his original demand. He made her eat over half her plate, she argued over the last bit and he relented at last. She was allowing him to coax her up from the couch to lead her back to their suite when Jethro tensed. Sienna appeared in the door, put her hands on her hips and glared at Jethro. Uh oh, this was probably about her murdered shrubbery Kameron figured. Judging by the glare in the feisty Queen's eyes Jethro was due for a tongue lashing but Kameron just couldn't bear to see him get in trouble for a situation she had caused by not telling him the truth first.

“Thank you so much for your help earlier Queen Sienna, Jethro has eased all my fears. And he's promised me a night off from my duties with him to make up for his earlier temper. Although that seems unfair since I was the one who caused this whole situation by not being honest in the first place,” she tried to distract the fuming Queen but she wasn't sure it was working. Then she made the mistake of looking up at her lover's face. With a little sigh she wrapped her arms around Jethro's waist and buried her face in his shoulder. In truth the glance she had caught of Jethro's face had her feeling another bout of giggles threatening to bubble up at the sheepish looking Warlord Prince who resembled a guilty child more than a dangerous Blood male at the moment.

Jethro listened patiently as Kameron spilled the story of her life with her twin sister. Biting back the impulse to make an evil twin joke, Jethro assured her that it didn’t matter to him what had happened before, nor did he think any the less of her for having left and come to Shalador to escape all that. Now that the crisis was past, Jethro drew Kam to her feet, and the two of them headed for Jethro’s suite. He felt relieved, glad that he hadn’t done any permanent damage to their relationship.

As they exited the library, however, they came face-to-face with a very displeased Sienna, and the destruction in the garden reared its ugly head. Jethro opened his mouth to begin with the excuses, apologies, anything to get him out of the line of fire, but Kam beat him to it with a quick distraction, telling Sienna that all was well between them. She almost lost it again when she peeked at his face and saw the sheepish apologetic look plastered there, but she buried her face in his chest again to hide her mirth, and Jethro took it from there.

“Yeah, we’ve talked, and everything’s fine. I didn’t yell, either,” he added defensively, hoping it would do some good. No such luck. “Anyway, I’m going to take her upstairs and put her in a hot bath, she’s pretty much exhausted. So I guess I’ll see you in the morning,” he added, before quickly vanishing around the corner, Kam in tow, moving quickly to his rooms before Sienna could say anything more. They made it in the door, and Jethro closed it behind them before throwing up Ebon-Gray audial shields around the room.

Some time later, the two of them emerged from the tub, and Kameron produced a book she had snatched from the library during their escape. Jethro sat up in bed with Kam snuggled against his side as he read her the story until she fell asleep. Closing the book, he shifted her down into a comfortable position, then turned out the lights and lay there beside her, breathing in the calming scent of her, until he too drifted off into a peaceful sleep.

Kameron awoke to the deep even rise and fall of Jethro's breathing beneath her cheek. She smiled against his skin before giving in to the inevitable fact that she had to get up and attend to her duties. With a sigh she stretched and dropped a soft kiss on his forehead, and decided to let him sleep a little longer. Wiggling to the end of the bed she let her feet down to the floor and tried to be as quiet as she could as she stood up. Tiptoeing to the dresser she grabbed an outfit for the day. The soft white dress gradually became pink the lower down it went, ending in a soft rose color at the hem. The bodice was tight and flattering with a long thinly layered skirt, but after seeing Keira the yesterday she needed something to help bolster her confidence and she'd been told she looked good in this dress.

She pinned her hair back from her face and put on her favourite white slipper shoes. Jethro hadn't moved when she returned into the bedroom and she fixed the blanket over him so he'd be more comfortable. Then she quit stalling and exited their suite to go down and face the day. Besides, she had to figure out what she was going to do about Keira. Jethro had told her not to worry about Keira but then Jethro didn't know how far Keira would be willing to go to best Kameron. But Kameron did, she knew that her being the High Priestess and Jethro's lover would drive Keira to new heights of madness. There was no telling what the vindictive Black Widow would do.

But she didn't want to dwell and she trusted Jethro and Sienna to help protect her from Keira for the most part. And if she didn't carry on with her life like she had before she knew Keira was here she'd be giving her sister exactly what she wanted. This time Kameron was determined not to back down, at least she hoped she wouldn't have to if Keira crossed the line. At the end of the day Kameron feared she would never be able to go as far as Keira was and it could cost her everything.

She could hear the cook barking out orders in the kitchen about breakfast and Kameron decided to risk poking her head and seeing if she could get some tea. Hopefully she could get in and out without being plied for information. She doubted very much that there wasn't a member of the Palace that hadn't heard of Jethro's shrubbery massacre or felt the fury of the Ebon-Gray as it had rolled off her seriously pissed off lover yesterday. Unfortunately most of the younger kitchen hands loved a juicy bit of speculation more than they feared the cook sometimes and if the cook wasn't right on hand to keep the others in line there would be questions. Kameron was far to private a person to spill her personal life so she tried to avoid the curious young gossipers as much as possible.

Thankfully the cook was right by the door and spotted her hesitant entry. Authoritatively she called her in and ordered a young man up to his elbows in a mound of freshly peeled potatoes to fetch Kameron a cup of her favourite tea. Kameron protested trying to convince the cook that she was perfectly capable of getting it for herself but the cook would hear none of it. Again she ranted about a certain Ebon-Gray prince who was not only a sweet thief but a silly male for loosing his temper and certainly frightening his little Priestess. Kameron was torn between defending Jethro's honour and chuckling at the woman's motherly protectiveness, she resembled a puffed up mother hen at the moment.

In the end Kameron decided to take her tea up to the study and do a little work, it was a constant and the routine would be good for her. And maybe see if Sienna was up and apologize on Jethro's behalf for the bushes....

Sienna lingered near the door, in case Jethro started yelling at the poor frightened Priestess. Christopher approached his Queen silently, and tapped her on the shoulder. “You scared the life out of me!” she squeaked, jumping at his touch. “I’m keeping an eye on Jethro. He’s in a temper today.”

“About his temper Lady.” Christopher fidgeted. “He’s ahh….destroyed part of your gardens.”

“He did what?!” Sienna snarled. She stalked toward the window across the hall and looked down to see the destruction her temperamental Warlord Prince had wrought in her gardens. She turned back toward the door and set her hands on her hips and glared at the culprit as he emerged from her study with his lover.

The two lovers immediately began to try to smooth her ruffled feathers by assuring her that all was well between them but she continued to glare at Jethro, who looked more like a guilty child than an adult Warlord Prince. The little Priestess was fighting a losing battle with her giggles and buried her face in her lover’s chest. Sienna opened her mouth to say something but they were gone. She shook her head with a sigh and headed for her gardens to assess the damage.

Sienna entered her garden to find her fiancé Caleb kneeling next to one of the decimated shrubs, apparently assessing the damage. “How do they look?” she smiled down at him. She laughed softly at his response and glanced back toward the house. “He’s alright now. He’s taken Kam upstairs for the night.” She said. “He was very upset about meeting Kam’s twin.”

The ruling couple moved from shrub to shrub, assessing the damage as they went along, chattering pleasantly between them about Luc and the upcoming wedding. They strolled along the garden paths until sunset when they wandered back into the house. The entered Luc’s room and the boy looked up from his toys.

“Hi Mama. Hi Daddy.” He chirped happily.

“You should be in bed little one.” Sienna scolded playfully. “Come on. Lets get you tucked him.” She smiled scooping the three-year-old off the ground. “Have you had your bath tonight?”

“No Mama.” Luc answered. He looked from his mother’s face to the door when it swung open again to admit his Nanny Susan.

“I am sorry Lady. I was downstairs helping Lady Kaelian with laundry. I’ll get him ready for bed.” Susan said quietly.

“It’s alright.” Sienna smiled at the woman. “Caleb and I shall do it. You may go.”

“Yes ma’am.” Susan curtsied and disappeared back out of the room.

Sienna and Caleb spent some quality time with their son, readying him for bed. The couple stood over their son’s bed and watched him sleep for some time before finally retiring to their room. “Caleb?” Sienna murmured as they lay in bed together. “I want another baby.”

Jethro woke gradually, blinking his eyes as the world came into focus. He was lying on his back with his arm curled around an empty space beside him, and the covers pulled up over him. Kameron must have gotten up and slipped out of the room without his being aware of her leaving, he realized. Reluctantly, Jethro sat up and stretched, feeling his muscles loosen and release the residual tension of his outburst the day before. Getting out of bed, Jethro dropped to the floor and quickly ran through his usual morning mix of pushups and abdominal workouts, the physical activity pumping blood to his sleep-fogged brain. After he finished, he went rummaging through his clothes until he found a pair of loose pants and a more-or-less clean t-shirt and put them on. Pulling on his running shoes, he left his suite and headed downstairs.

As he entered the foyer, headed for the front door, Jethro ran into Caleb, and quickly paused, intending to ask him about bailing Jethro out on the shrubbery massacre. “Hey, Caleb,” he began, “Would you – “

Caleb cut him off. ”She already knows, Jethro. ‘Fraid I can’t help you, you’ll have to deal with her yourself. I’ve got my own troubles: she wants another baby.”

At the thought of another small child loose in the manor, Jethro made a short and pungent reply, and Caleb laughed.

”Have a nice run, but don’t wear yourself out, old man. You might need to do some more running later.” Jethro swore again, which left Caleb laughing even harder, then Jethro left the manor, and keeping Caleb’s advice in mind, shortened his run from its usual length. Besides, he was hungry. Yep. That would be his excuse if anybody asked.

Re-entering the manor, Jethro slipped up to his suite and showered, then dressed and stealthily went in search of breakfast, figuring if Sienna was going to murder him, he’d rather be killed on a full stomach than die hungry. His luck held, and he made it to the kitchen without encountering his cousin. The cook took pity on him and fixed him his favorite, eggs and bacon with toast, declaring that even the biggest bonehead deserved a good last meal. Jethro took the ribbing good-naturedly, eating quickly then leaving the kitchen.

As he left the kitchen corridor, Jethro paused. On second thought, he should probably go check on Kameron, as Sienna would want to know how her High Priestess was doing after yesterday’s upheaval. Not to mention, it was a superb tactic for delaying the tongue-lashing Sienna would undoubtedly dish out. Jethro grinned at his own brilliance, then left to go find Kameron, and, uh, check on her. Right. That.

Priestess

Kameron frowned at another small stack of papers. A Priestess in one of the smaller villages in the Vantala Province was complaining about a young apprentice of hers that she suspected was stealing the offerings that were donated to the Altar, of course the apprentice had also written to make the same accusation about her mentor. It was clear that the small Altar was no longer supporting itself although it was reported that the local populace had nearly doubled and more people were visiting the Altar than ever before. Kameron might have to make an appearance to inspect the Altar and it's records, or at the very least arrange for another Priestess from one of the larger nearby Altars to visit and take a look around. The situation was dismaying and Kameron was disappointed that any Priestess would stoop so low as to abuse her position at the Altar. At least that was the only really pressing problem as far as she could tell.

And there were a few other messages of lesser concern but she knew she would have to pen a quick reply to them all to maintain the harmony between the Priestesses. It was menial work for the most part and she didn't mind, it passed the time. But after an hour or so she found her mind wandering to thoughts of Keira. Was she still close? A small part of her wanted to try and reach out and test their bond, the majority of her didn't want a repeat of yesterday. If Keira was close Kameron was sure she'd make herself known soon enough. They'd played this game for years, and if worse came to worse she would write Sasha. He could usually bring Keira to bear, but Kameron wasn't sure he'd answer her plea for his help. But she considered that a very last resort, she didn't truly want to risk Sasha coming to Shalador anymore than she wanted Keira here now.

Brushing back her hair from her face Kameron stretched and decided to take a walk to clear her mind of thoughts of Keira. She strolled through the Palace enjoying the little details she was still becoming familiar with during her visits to Sienna's, until she finally couldn't avoid the gardens any more. The charred decimated bushes looked terrible she thought flinching at the sight of their spidery naked limbs. There wasn't a surviving leaf on a few of them. No wonder Sienna had looked so mad, the poor innocent shrubbery certainly hadn't deserved this. Perhaps she could offer to help replant them since she felt partially to blame for their destruction Kameron mused. The damage the Ebon-Gray was capable of without even trying was rather frightening. Jethro hadn't even been trying to inflict damage and look how easily he had burned the the life out of these plants.

But Kameron knew that Jethro would never hurt her no matter how angry he was. But sometimes the power contained within him shone through so incredibly it was impossible to ignore that her own power and so many others' was so pale compared to his. At the same time she knew all the power he possessed he would use to protect the one's he loved, he'd drain himself dry before he'd let harm come to them. But she was going to have to remember what he was and what that meant. She'd lied to him by omitting the truth about her past and his rage could have endangered more than just bushes. That could never happen again, come what may she couldn't play with the power of his Jewels like that. She never wanted him to rise so close to the killing edge again because of her. Jethro was one of the most powerful males in the Territory and she needed to respect that side of him as much as she respected and loved the man who always got caught on cookie-raids in the kitchen with his nephew.

Well, she had spent enough time wandering around and putting off the inevitable, with a sigh she headed back into the Palace. As she reached her office she got a pleasant surprise, Jethro was there. He must have come to check on her. His hair was still damp from a shower and she doubted he had been to apologize to Sienna yet. Smiling she walked into the office and tiptoed up to his side. “Hiding from Sienna,” she teased even as she wrapped her arms around him in a comforting hug. His wry smile confirmed he was indeed ducking the Queen's wrath. She let him place a gentle kiss on her forehead before she captured his face in her hands and forced him to look at her. “We owe Sienna an apology for the bushes,” she told him firmly.

His shoulders sagged as he accepted that she wasn't going to let him continue to avoid the confrontation anymore. He looked so dejected she almost laughed, his face was so expressive she rarely couldn't tell what he was thinking. And right now he had to be thinking that Sienna was going to have some task or chore for him as punishment for his actions, at the very least she was going to yell at him. Taking his hand in hers' Kameron began purposefully leading him from her office to Sienna's study. She sent out another request for an audience with Sienna as they neared her private study. It must have looked rather comical to see a Rose Jewelled Priestess dragging an Ebon-Gray Warlord Prince through the palace like a child but the house staff wisely contained their chuckles until after the couple was out of ear-shot.

Jethro walked in the door to Kam’s office, hoping to find her there, but she was out. Rather than go hunting all over the palace for her, he elected to wait until she returned. There was a pile of paperwork on the desk, as if she had just stepped out. She would probably be right back. Just as he made this decision, she came back into the office. Seeing him, she smiled and pulled him against her in a hug. Jethro held her as she teased him for avoiding Sienna, then bent down and planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. She caught his face and gave him The Look.

”We owe Sienna an apology for the bushes,” she said, firmly. Jethro allowed himself to be drug out of Kam’s office and down the hall to Sienna’s study. As they reached the door, Kameron knocked, and upon receiving a reply, opened the door, pushed Jethro into the lion’s den, then closed the door and went back to her work.

Jethro drew a deep breath, then faced Sienna. “So…about the garden. I guess you’re pretty mad about all those bushes being shredded. I’ll take care of them, replace them if you like.” She continued to glare daggers at him. “Kameron said she told you about her twin?” he asked. Sienna nodded an affirmative, and Jethro went on.

“Look, this isn’t my Province. I’m just the First Escort here, your First Escort. I have no authority to banish Keira or do anything like that. I’d rather this not come down to me killing Kameron’s sister like I threatened earlier when I first met her. At the same time, Keira is not going to back off. You know me and my temper, how after Shannon died…” Jethro trailed off, drowning in the memories of the murder of his wife and the bloodbath he wreaked on those responsible. He didn’t want to do that again, especially not when his antagonist was his lover’s twin sister, but he knew that the violent temper of a Warlord Prince could only take so much before it snapped. If that happened, the shrubbery massacre would seem like a quiet Winsol party compared to what he would do to Keira and anybody else that got in his way. He gathered himself, forcing the memories back into their dark corners, then spoke again, hoping Sienna would see the urgency of the situation.

“So what shall we do about all that?” he asked, gesturing out the window at the garden, but deliberately putting a double meaning behind his query.
