((ooc: This story takes place at the same time as “Double Trouble” and during “Black Widow Queens”)) It had been three days and Keira still couldn't believe it. She'd had to see it with her own eyes before she could finally accept it. Kameron, her weak timid little twin was the High Priestess of Shalador! Each time she thought about it her blood boiled. How had she done it? Kameron was only a Rose-jewelled Priestess, and far too shy to have presented herself for the position. Wasn't she? Of course she was, she'd always been too weak to think she could handle a job like High Priestess of Shalador. Queen Ryer had been fooled if she thought Kameron was capable of doing the job with any real capability. And on top of the insult that Kameron was currently in a higher social rank than her it was rumoured that Kameron was dating one of the darkest jewelled males in the Territory. Jethro Rayne was the Province Ruler for the Sayaia Province and wore the Ebon-Gray. He was a powerful Warlord Prince and he was wasting his time with a Rose-Jewelled Priestess, it was absurd. Keira's fury continued to deepen throughout the day and she found herself fighting to control her temper. Just one more time, she had to walk by the Palace and see it again. As she stalked by for the sixth time since she arrived past the gates in front of the Palace she saw a familiar face in the windows, her own. Actually it was Kameron's but since they were identical it could have been her own face reflected in the glass. The panicked look in her twin's eyes was a small satisfaction and she savoured it. Let her sister be afraid, she should be. Keira was going to show them how incompetent and useless she really was. And as for her dating a Province Ruler, the hell she was going to let him continue to waste himself on someone like her second-rate twin. Kameron's face vanished from the window and Keira practically skipped down the street knowing that Kameron had to be seriously rattled. What she didn't expect was for Kameron to sent out a Rose probe reaching for her. Feeling her sister's physic touch shocked and infuriated her. Kameron would never have been so bold as to see her out before, she'd run away to another Territory to escape her and Sasha. Angrily she lashed out with her Purple-Dusk in retaliation. Instantly Kameron was gone. But now Keira was seething again. Kameron had grown more confident it seemed. A powerful new boyfriend and a new job and Kameron thought she was on the same level as Keira, what a fool. This was going to take some planning. She was going to need a way to interject herself into the lives of the people around Kameron. A natural seeming reason for her to be around. Of course she was going to have to pretend to have no issues with her sister. People always seemed to see Kameron as some poor little victim rather than a wolf in sheep's clothing. Sure she'd play innocent and timid but it was just a different way of manipulating people. Keira dealt with Kameron's treachery her whole life. It started with her monopolizing Sasha's attention when they were young. Then when they got older people were always giving Kameron equal praise as Keira received even when Keira had clearly achieved more. On their Birthright ceremony Keira had received the Rose and Kameron only the white but everyone had cheered her weak twin just as loudly even though Keira's Jewel was clearly the better of the two. And then there was the time Kameron stole the man Keira had wanted and refused to break up with him for two whole years despite that fact that Keira was clearly the better match for him. In the end it had worked out though, she'd been too weak for him and unable to handle a male of his calibre and the relationship had ended. Of course by then she had no use for the fool and had turned his advances down, how dare he think he could approach her after he stupidly choose Kameron over her. Keira was not going to let Kameron out do her on anything. Keira had always been the stronger, dominant twin and it just didn't make sense for Kameron to wind up rising higher socially than Keira. Or for her to find a more impressive male than Keira, whose jewels made her more desirable than her sister. Nothing about this whole situation made sense. It was time to set things right. She was going to have to spend the next few days watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to introduce herself. |

First Escort to the Queen of Shalador, Warlord Prince of Sayaia

Jethro left the dinner table feeling good. It had been a good day, despite his and Luc’s setback with the cookie raid. Sienna had told him that Kam was back from her Altar in his Province of Sayaia, but for some reason Kam wanted to see Sienna first. A bit puzzled and uneasy, Jethro went outside for a short walk while he waited for Sienna and Kam to finish. He smiled to himself, thinking of Kam and the peace he felt when he was with her. After Shannon was killed, Jethro had not thought it possible that he would ever find happiness with another woman, but Kameron was a soothing influence on him, especially when he was feeling grouchy or irritated with the day-to-day nuisances of being a Province Ruler. He was a lucky, lucky man. Jethro left the grounds, walking easily down the road with a steady, purposeful gait, meandering through Shea, stopping briefly at the sweets shop to buy some of the chocolate pastries that Kameron had introduced him to. After he had been out and about for half an hour or so, he headed back towards the manor, munching on a pastry, hoping that Sienna and Kam would at least be close to being done with whatever they were discussing. As he rounded the corner, Jethro saw Kam coming up the road towards him, not looking where she was going, but more like storming along in a rage. That seemed odd and rather unlike her, but Jethro was armed with pastries. That should do the trick. It usually did, when she was feeling distraught…wait just one damn minute. Jethro stopped short, befuddled. Why in Hell was he suddenly sensing the Purple Dusk from Kam? Her Jewels were White to Rose. What was going on here? Jethro, on edge but not fully understanding why, resumed his steady walk towards Kam…if it even was Kam. Yes, that had to be it. An illusion spell. The reasoning was obvious enough. He was a Province ruler, and the darkest male in the Territory, not to mention being the First Escort of the Territory Queen. Trying to get close to his power by pretending to be the woman he loved…now that was just downright twisted. Wrapping himself in a skin-tight Ebon-Gray shield, he paced forward towards this woman, whoever she was, braced for an attack. “Whoever you are, you damn well better get rid of that illusion spell,” he snarled, his temper hovering just below the killing edge. |

Keira's head snapped up at the furious male snarl that cut through her fuming. She was about to snarl back at him when she realized she was looking at a very dark-jewelled Warlord Prince nearly upon the killing edge. His eyes were blazing with his fury and his whole body screamed danger to whoever was the focus of that rage. And from the way he was glaring down at her that focus was her. She forced herself to think and remember what he had been babbling about when he so rudely cut her off but it didn't make sense. He had demanded she get rid of an illusion spell. For a second she simply glared back at him then she shook her head. “I don't know what you're talking about. I'm not wearing an illusion spell,” she returned lowly not wasting to raise a shield. Whatever Jewels he wore they were clearly darker than hers, all she could hope that she could talk some sense into this madman. He growled at her response and stepped even closer repeating himself through gritted teeth. Keira's mind whirled frantically trying to figure out how to keep from provoking him by denying wearing an illusion spell again. Suddenly her mind made a leap and she realized this had to be an acquaintance of Kameron's, clearly he thought she was trying to impersonate her ridiculous twin. Hell, this could be Kameron's new love interest, Jethro Rayne? A cruel smile curved her lips, apparently Kameron hadn't told her new beau about her dear sister Keira. “I'm quite sorry, but you seem to have mistaken me for someone else, perhaps my sister Kameron?” she asked sweetly waiting for him to take the bait. She saw him hesitate at the mention of her sister's name. “My name is Keira, I am Kameron's sister, her twin sister,” she added carefully toning down the sickly sweetness in her voice. This male was still far to volatile for her to play with too much yet. Angrily he denied Kameron's having a sister and Keira had to fight to keep from laughing. “I assure you good Prince she does. How else do you explain me? Obviously you are far darker-jewelled than I, could I really hide behind an illusion spell from someone like you?” she queried letting the truth of that statement sink in. If this really was Jethro Rayne he wore the Ebon-Gray, she'd have to be wearing a darker Ebon-Gray or Black spell to fool him. The chances of that were practically nonexistent. Again she saw him hesitate and Keira figured Kameron had probably been pretty tight-lipped about her past with him. Great, that would work in her favour. In was very apparent that he was confused and still very aggravated. Staying would only rile him up further and she wasn't foolish enough to antagonize an Ebon-Gray Warlord Prince. Stepping back she narrowed her eyes as he again denied Kameron mentioning a sister, albeit a little less forcefully this time. “Perhaps you should be more concerned with what else my sister hasn't told you Prince Jethro,” she hissed sharply hoping to drive a sliver of doubt into his heart. The look that crossed his face was very satisfying. “If she left out telling you something as important as the fact that she has an identical twin sister do you really think that's all she left out telling you about her past?” On that note she spun around and started to stalk away from the stunned male behind her. With any luck he'd go and demand some answers from Kameron, Keira felt a thrill of malicious satisfaction at the thought of possibly causing a dispute between them. |

Jethro let some of his anger bleed away into the cold winter air. This woman who called herself Keira did have a point. With only the Purple Dusk, he would have sensed it if she had been wearing an illusion spell. Jethro’s temper gave way to puzzlement. Kameron had a sister? She’d never mentioned one, but then again, he’d never asked. Every time her past had come up, he could feel her retreating into her shell to avoid apparently painful memories, and so he had contented himself with whatever little bits and pieces she chose to let drop. Curiousity wasn’t Jethro’s strong suit, anyway. But with this bitch here in Shea, whoever she was, he was going to have a few questions for his lover. Then suddenly his temper flared again as the woman crooned, ”If she left out telling you something as important as the fact that she has an identical twin sister do you really think that’s all she left out telling you about her past?” “Listen, bitch,” Jethro snarled, quickly hiding the look of doubt that had briefly crossed his face, masking his unease in fury. “Get out of my way and if you’re smart, get the fuck out of this Territory before I bury your worthless carcass.” She quickly moved away from him and after a stunned pause, he stormed towards the manor, his emotions broiling. Rage swirled and blended with doubt and fear. Why was Kameron hiding her past? What had she done that she was afraid to tell him? Jethro, in a fleeting second of sanity, reflected that it was more his ego that was bruised, that she didn’t trust him enough to tell him something as simple as the fact that she had a twin, but then the moment was past and the anger returned. Had he ever given her a reason not to trust him? Sure, she only wore the Rose, and he WAS an Ebon-Gray Warlord Prince, but still, he had never so much as raised his voice to her in anger. Why would she be so afraid of what he would do that she would hide her entire past from him? Frustration entered the mix, and he didn’t even realize where he was or what he was doing until his head snapped up, looking for an inanimate target for his wrath, and realized he was in the manor gardens, with several of Sienna’s favorite shrubs already turned to sawdust around him. “Oh, shit,” he muttered to himself, all anger gone in the sudden realization that his cousin would be so very not pleased. Or anyway, he hoped it would be his cousin he had to deal with, and not his Queen. He knew that if Sienna decided to handle his outburst of temper as the Queen, he would find himself in very deep trouble, Ebon-Gray Warlord Prince or no. Please, sweet Darkness, let her deal with this as his concerned and affectionate cousin, and not as the Queen who would require an accounting for the fury that undoubtedly had everyone nearby cringing, wondering who was the target. Thinking fast, Jethro resumed his walk back to the manor, but this time looking for Caleb, not Sienna or Kam. If he put the right spin on this, Caleb would re-plant the shrubs, thereby getting Jethro out of trouble, and maybe earning Sienna’s Consort some goodie points with his Lady. Jethro smiled, pleased with his solution. Yeah. He’d see if he couldn’t con Caleb into saving Jethro’s ass. But as he moved for the house, the shredded shrubbery faded from his mind and the anger returned. He was angry at Keira for making a blatant attack on his lover, frustrated with Kameron for not being more forthcoming, and irritated with himself for losing his temper and mangling Sienna’s garden. He swirled deeper into his fury as he stormed in the front door of the manor, slamming it behind him, then charging up to Sienna’s library, sensing fear and distress from Sienna and irritation from Sienna, and ignoring both. He crashed through the door and went right for Kameron. “Why didn’t you tell me?!” he demanded, his eyes blazing. |

Keira's pleasure at the idea of causing a rift between Jethro and Kameron had been eclipsed by Jethro's frightening threat. He had clearly meant it and it had dampened her enjoyment considerably but Keira had never been one to back down where Kameron was concerned. She just had to figure out a way to show everyone how they had been fooled by Kameron's timid routine, without getting killed of course. How in the Darkness did Kameron contend with such a powerful male as Prince Rayne? Clearly he had the volatile temper of his caste and with his Jewels being so dark Kameron would barely be a pale shadow of presence next to him. She snorted, of course almost all women would be pale shadows next to an Ebon-Grey Warlord Prince but still, Kameron was especially weak and unworthy of having influence over a male like that. She could only hold him back and risk making him soft like her. Stalking towards the inn she was staying in Keira focused on running through her meeting with Prince Rayne over and over again, trying to sift through his every statement to see if she had missed some tone or inflection that would give her a clue on how to proceed now. Even after she had eaten and turned in for the night she didn't feel any closer to answer. Tangling with Prince Rayne again would be a bad idea, even if she was pretty sure that Kameron wouldn't let him hurt her. In the end Kameron was too sweet and good-hearted to let anyone really hurt her. After all they were sisters, save for Sasha Keira was all the family Kameron had left. Ever the optimist Kameron would always hold out some hope of reaching Keira and mending the rift between them, and as long as she did she'd never be able to let someone else injure her twin. But Kameron clearly wasn't with her lover all the time and the Rose-Jewelled Priestess might not be able to do much about it if her Ebon-Gray lover chose to ignore her wishes on the matter. Keira was walking a dangerous line and she knew it but the idea of leaving and Kameron surpassing her socially was too bitter a pill to swallow. She just couldn't let it go. Her whole life she'd done more and done better than Kameron. She knew she had always been destined to go farther in life than Kameron but here her miserable twin was stealing her glory again. She hated her, she really hated her goody-two shoes sister. Keira may always have been the more popular of the two but she never doubted that her friends were all superficial like her and would turn on her if it suited them. But the people who were friends with Kameron loved her, they were loyal and Keira was always left fuming at how endeared people became of the little Priestess. To top everything off Keira knew that Prince Rayne would probably be sticking close to Kameron for the next few days. The way she had rattled her twin made now the perfect time to confront her and really drive her point home. Keira was going to make Kameron leave Shalador and disappear into obscurity like she should have the first time she left. And just like that she had an epiphany, she knew exactly whose help to enlist in crushing Kameron's spirit once and for all. Slipping from the bed she padded over to the simple desk in the room and created a small ball of witchlight to help her see. Of course it might take a little while for him to arrive but if Keira's appearance had upset her twin than this new player to the game was going to send her running for the hills, Keira's wicked smirk widened as she began to write. |
