(OOC: Placement, or lack there of, done with permission)

Tylar followed Shalar to the little house that was to be their home for a little while. When things began getting really bad, they discussed staying together until they figured things out. This way, they would be able to protect the girls together. After all, two swords were better at one when an intruder came calling or if someone came after Aly or Marlian. Besides, two swords were better than one and if anything ever happened, Marlian was one hell of a fighter herself. But Tylar would be damned if that witch of his ever needed to pick something up in self-defense again.

As they got closer, Tylar began scanning the land around the house more closely before moving inside. He was looking for intruders. He was looking for danger. He was looking for something he could beat on. He was looking for Marlian. He didn't find anything. No intruders. No danger. No beatable objects.

No Marlian.

Just steps away from the house, Tylar growled and strode quickly in front of Shalar, using craft to slam the door open. Inside, he stalked his way to the kitchen, scanning for the hearth witch that was his and not finding her. He found the kitchen empty even though he could smell fresh pastries. He didn't care one piece about the pastries. He wanted Marlian and she wasn't here. Why wasn't she here?

Tylar's temper sky rocketted as his hand slammed down on the handle of a pot. He picked it up and flung it into the wall over a large array of cabinets, placing a deep dent in the wall. He stared at it a moment. "Shalar. Where the hell is she? Where are they? WHat the hell happened?" He asked in a loud voice, picking up another pot and throwing it.

Shalar was not less concerned than Tylar, when he found neither girl in the house, or in the gardens, or near the house. As he kept extending his probe for them, he grew quite antsy. Something was just not right, he picked up Aly scent in the house but it was off somehow.

He was praying to the Darkness that she did not have a breakdown, or may Hell be flooded in sunshine forever, she had gotten her memory back and he had not been around to soften the blows she would have gotten from that.

Right now he did not care that Tylar was angry at him or was taking this anger out on the kitchen, he himself felt like smashing a few things and roaring Aly’s name until she would appear out thin air in front of him. Right now, he would have taken Tylar on gladly to have something give under his fist and right now, if Tylar turned on him, it would be dangerous for both of them.

Then he felt Marlian and she was coming closer, he also felt Aly, much weaker it seemed and strange, something was off and he was turning on his heels “They are here, I am going to see Aly.” Was all he snarled at Tylar. Right now he was not up for any argument with his friend and hoped he would get the drift and stay in that mess he made of the kitchen. At least Marlian would not be after his hide, for a moment he felt sorry for Tylar and then he was out the door.

He had barely walked a few steps when down the hallway, when he saw Aly. How could he not have picked her scent up in the house??

(Aly and Shalar continue in A Surprise of her own)

Marlian was rushing with her shopping and then got a few deliveries set up, they would now have fresh milk and eggs delivered in the morning. Meat and potatoes as well as assorted vegetables and some cold cuts and cheese would be delivered before noon, for lunch and dinner. She would not have to leave the house to go shopping for a while, hopefully Tylar and Shalar would soon be back home and she would be able to go shopping again, Marlian liked to haggle with the merchants.

She had also found some very soft wool and fabric, perfect for baby clothes. That would give her something to do while she was watching over Aly, she felt bad for leaving her today but they needed food and even though she had baked pastries, rolls and bread in the past few days, they could not live on just that. She was sure Shalar would understand if he found out.

As she got closer to the house, she could sense Tylar and Shalar and her heart sank, she would be in trouble and she just knew it. There was anger and frustration and she stood at the door for a moment before she walked into the house. She saw Shalar heading to the living room and he did not even look at her, yes she would hear it later from him for sure.

What she encountered when she stepped into the kitchen had her bristle. Someone had put a dent in the wall, destroyed her favorite pot and there was Tylar with another pot in his hands. “What in the name of Mother Night and Hell are you thinking?” she snarled and then realized that Tylar must have been worried not finding her here, he did not know how different things were here.

But that did not give him the right to mess up HER kitchen, less snarly but still not quite calm she called in her shopping basket and slammed it on the table “I was shopping, we needed food….” Then she became teary eyed “I did not mean to worry you……” and as the tears were running down her face her bottom lip was trembling. Okay…..welcoming HER Tylar back home had never played like this in her imagination……..not at all.

((OCC you can move her wherever he wants to take her  ))

Marlian may have only seen one destroyed pot but by the time she walked it, Tylar was preparing to throw his fourth pot. He was pissed, outraged, that someone would dare take his witch from the place that was to be their home. Didn't they know who he was? He was the master of the guard of Askavi for the Darkness' sake. How dare anyone try and hurt Marlian?!?!?!

When Marlian entered the house, Tylar was about to swing the newest pot at the wall but stopped in mid throw. His fingers gripped the metal, denting it slightly as he followed her through the house. He was pleased to see her come to him first. It made him know that he was the most important. She didn't go to Shalar or that off Aly scent. She was worried about him.

The second Marlian was in the kitchen, Tylar felt himself relax and growl all at the same time. He wanted Marlian but he did not like that she seemed to be mad at him. What had he done wrong? Held off and possibly killed his brother so she could escape? Killed a dangerous lamb so it wouldn't attack? Took a damn pot and threw it at the wall to keep from strangling her? What the hell was she mad for?

And why did tears and a quivering lip make him suddenly feel less angry?

Without dropping the pot, he moved quickly to her side, wrapping his arms around her and burying his head in her neck, inhaling Marlian's scent. Even in this new territory, Marlian still smelled like Marlian. She was calming, relaxing and his. He dropped the pot, a loud clang ringing as it hit the floor as his hand spread across the small of her back. "You could have waited until we got back. Food is less important than your safety. No one separates until we figure this place out." He kissed Marlian deeply, trying to consume her in some ways. "Got it?"

She watched Tylar coming close to her, for a moment she was wondering what he would do with that pot, but when his arms went around her she leaned heavily into him. She had missed him so much, until this moment she had not even known how much she had missed him. Granted, she had snuck a few of his shirts with her, but it was not the same. Though he felt a little off, Marlian pushed that thought aside and attributed it to the worry about her. She did not even jump when the pot fell and his arms went around her.

Putting her arms around him, she pulled him as close as she could. Now that he was here with her, everything would be alright. They could start making a real life for themselves and find a place where they wanted to live. Tylar would see how different this territory was and how much easier things were here. “I missed you so much.” She whispered into his chest, forgotten that she was supposed to be mad about the kitchen, it could be fixed and she could buy new pots.

“We were out of food and I wanted to make sure we had enough until you came back, I even arranged for deliveries so I did not have to leave the house for a while.” She tried to soothe him with her hands rubbing his back as she spoke, she needed him to know she would never put herself in danger, unless absolutely needed, but she was not about to bring that up just now. “Okay, we won’t separate until we figure this place out.” She would give him that assurance, even though Aly and her had already made a few connections to the people here, but if Tylar needed to be assured that she would stay safe with him, she would do so.

Tylar would find out soon enough how much different this place was and how much nicer and friendlier the people were. She kissed him with all the love she had for him, her hands and arms holding on to him as if she never wanted to let him go. He was hers and she was his, that was all there was right now. Tylar was back with her and Marlian was happy, eventually they would sort all this out and he would be happy here. Mother Night, please let him find peace and happiness here, he deserves it.

Marlian had always, from day one, had an effect on Tylar that he had never known before. There was something so special about this witch that made Tylar feel calm and like the world would somehow make sense. At this point, Tylar wasn't sure it actually would make sense but at least, for a brief moment, he felt the peace. Up until a few days ago, he had hoped that he would be able to give Marlian peace. Deep down, he still hoped that.

he breathed her scent in and let it take over him. For the first time in days, he felt like himself. He felt like flirting and goofing around which he hadn't felt since Shalar had taken Marlian and Aly to safety. Now Tylar wished they had had just a little more time to plan. He knew that Marlian was right, they needed food to survive but that didn't mean he had to like that she was alone and out in a strange place. He knew that she was right and able to defend herself but he personally needed to make sure that she was safe. "We would have found food another way. There are other ways of getting food." An image from the room flashed through Tylar's brain, causing him to squeeze Marlian close, careful to not squeeze too tight.

Tylar focused on anything better than those hours he had spent with his brother. The first time he woke up with his arms wrapped around Marlian. The day Shalar agreed to be his second in command. The first time he ever flew. When he felt a little calmer, when the image was mostly gone, he pulled away from Marlian and ran a thumb over her cheek before leaning his forehead against her's. He felt mildly better at the idea that Marlian wouldn't go anywhere without him.

"My brother's dead." He whispered. He didn't know where that came from or why he had said it at that moment. It just came out.

Feeling safe and being safe were two different things altogether and Marlian was well aware of this, she wished she could make Tylar understand, that in this new territory she simply KNEW she was safe from harm period. She was holding him tight and decided if he needed her to agree with his decision for now, she would do that. Right now it was important that HE felt in control, not that Tylar had ever been controlling, but she knew how lost she had felt, when they first arrived here.

All of a sudden they were in a strange territory with strange people, strange customs and for him this must be even more overwhelming than it was for her. Tylar had been the MotG, now he was without a job and she was sure he soon would feel the loss of it all, his sole purpose had been to protect his brother. Marlian was sure, he was protecting her as well, but she was not always sure where she was standing in the whole scheme of things. For her it had been easy, she was a Hearth Witch, give her a house and a kitchen and she was happy and working. Even a fire pit would do for her, but how would it be for Tylar, and her brother…..

These thoughts were flying through her mind as Tylar was holding her close to him, she would deal with them when the time came. Now she wanted nothing but his arms around her, inhale his scent deeply and be happy that he was finally, finally with her. Maybe now she could make him see that of all three Everett’s, HE was the worthiest one, the real man and not a tool to get his brother into the ruling position. The other two still made her skin crawl when she thought about them, as far as Marlian was concerned, if she never heard about them again, she would not miss a thing.

Not that she would ever say that to Tylar, she knew how complicated the relationships in his family had been and she was acutely aware how much strain it had put on their relationship as well. She remembered the outbursts, when Tylar did not seem to understand that she was truly his and had no intention of going anywhere, much less into his creepy brother’s arms.

She was listening to him talking about the food and nodded, yeah they could have gotten the food somehow and he was right. When he squeezed her tighter, she was a little startled at how dark his thoughts had gotten. She had been able to feel his moods shift, since she had first set eyes on him. When she had not had a clue why she had felt so drawn to him, at that thought she hugged him tighter as well. As the darkness drained from him somewhat, she was looking at him smiling and with bright eyes, when he ran his thumb over her cheek and then leaned in to put his forehead against hers.

Tylar’s next words surprised Marlian ”My brother’s dead.”, for a second she was not sure how to react and what to say. Mainly because there was nothing that gave her an indication how he felt about it, she was not really happy about this, but she would not miss his brother or be very sad about it either. She took his face in both of her hands and caressed it gently “I am sorry to hear that Tylar, I am so very sorry.” Marlian was not lying, she felt sorry, but not for his brother – she felt the loss for Tylar and what it would do to him, she was mourning the pain he would feel over the loss sooner or later, but she would be there and help him get through it.

Briefly she wondered if Shalar knew, but the thought was gone before she could really ponder it. Maybe Tylar wanted to talk about it, he was not much the talking kind for usual and she knew that. Hell, they had not even really talked about the losses of their fathers, there had been no time. Maybe it was time for mourning what they both had lost, maybe just maybe, Tylar would finally realize that for her there was no one more important than him. Her hands were gently stroking his face, “We could go to our room and talk if you like.” she spoke softly.

((OOC you can move her if needed  ))

Tylar still didn't know why he had chosen that moment to tell Marlian about his brother. Tylar knew that she wouldn't miss him, after all, he had tried to get Marlian to be his wife. Or was that his father? Tylar simply couldn't remember at that point. He was tired and his brain was on full throttle. He couldn't seem to get himself to focus and no matter what he did, he was always struggling to keep his focus on what he was supposed too. It was irritating him but at that particular moment, he felt calm and he was going to enjoy that feeling.

He could only look into Marlian's eyes briefly. Of course he knew she was telling him the truth but why? Why was she sorry? She should be dancing for joy for the shit his brother had pulled. Tylar would have. He would have found the bastard's grave and danced on it simply to express just how delighted he was in that particular death. Of course Tylar knew that Marlian was, always had been, a better person than he was. He would never try to convince himself of anything else. Why the Darkness had gifted him with this hearth witch, Tylar couldn't even begin to understand.

Instead of going upstairs like Marlian had suggested, Tylar just buried his head in the crook of her neck, shaking his head against it. He didn't want to talk. He had never been a talker. Talking only got you into trouble and made things more complicated. All he wanted to do was inhale her scent a while. He rocked slightly on his feet he continued to hold Marlian close. Slowly, that rocking motion turned into a few steps as Tylar walked backwards out of the door, dragging Marlian with him. He didn't look up and he didn't really use craft to find his way about. He just went to the place that seemed most like Marlian and then went into the door. He hoped he was right, he hoped it was their room.

Finally, Tylar moved his head away from her neck, the cool air slapping his face hard. He didn't want to talk but he didn't want to sleep. For some reason, he didn't want to enjoy the rest of Marlian. He just wanted...

He just wanted...

Too hold her.

Sometimes it seemed things just had a way to go wrong, no matter what one tried, one ended up with a mess. Other times everything went right from beginning to end, Marlian thought their relationship had just all the elements for a disaster at times and then everything went haywire, just to end the way it should have in the first place, nice and happy. If certain things had not gone all wrong and as bad as she could imagine, then they would not be standing here….together. There had been things at work behind their backs to pull them apart, just when they had found each other.

Yes, Marlian was glad, that there was neither a father nor a brother left to pull Tylar down and make him feel like he was not worth much more than being a stepping stone and door opener for his older brother. Yes, it would be easier not to see him upset at something that had been said to him and yes, it would be just the two of them now. Marlian hugged Tylar to her after he had looked at her, she wondered what he had seen in her eyes, but it was nothing she needed to know. This was just not the time for talking.

There always had been issues neither wanted to talk about, she would not tell him how hard her father had died or what his father had had done to him. She would never bring up what had happened when she had been dragged to the castle and Tylar had rescued her. There were things Marlian did not want to remember too clearly, it would cause her to run in the bathroom and scrub her arms where she had been touched by two really foul males, which of course might make Tylar feel bad and she did not want that. No, they were not the biggest talkers, neither was, but if he wanted to talk, she would be there for him.

When she felt his head shake after he had buried in the crook of her neck, Marlian reached up to hold his head against her and rubbed her face on his head. She could feel his hair was a little longer than it used to be, but then she was sure he did not have the time for haircuts and actually he would no longer need them if he decided so. She was rocking with him, humming softly until he started to pull her along with him. For a moment she wanted to tell him to watch for the stairs, but he had not problems with them and before she knew it they were in the room she had picked for the both of them.

The French doors were wide open and the cool night air was coming in with a breeze, making the lace curtains flutter. A big bed was the central point of the room; it was loaded with big down pillows and a thick down comforter. There were bookshelves lining the wall left and right of the headboard, to the left was the door to the closet as well as a door to the bathroom. No carpets on the floor, simple hardwood floors and two overstuffed chairs made the room simple but warm looking. There was a fireplace, but she had not used it as of yet and there was a warm and cozy looking throw rug in front of it. The bed was new, Marlian had just bought it.

She smiled at him, not quite sure what to make of his behavior, she was used to him getting her out of her clothes and then taking his sweet time. This was different, it was like he was deciding what he wanted to do next. Marlian kept her hands on him and waited for him to decide what that would be. For a long time she had told herself, that she was not good enough for him and that he could do better than her. Then he had claimed her and she had claimed him, but now doubts were creeping back. Maybe, just maybe she had been right all along? Or he did not like the room, this was a far cry from the suite they had lived in at the castle, but it was warm and inviting.

But it felt assuring to be near him, so she leaned her head against his chest and wrapped her arms around him. Maybe that was what they both needed the most, just this. “I love you Tylar.” she mumbled against his chest.
