((OOC: this begins at the end of 23 Candles))

Gaven moved among the guests at Faine’s birthday party, being sociable but not really lingering anywhere in particular. It wasn’t that he was avoiding conversation, but more that he didn’t really have any close friends at the party that weren’t engaged in their own circles. He shrugged it off as a side effect of being a newcomer and a bit of a loner, personality-wise, and went for a third glass of the punch. He was intercepted by Jubal, and the two men had a few amiable words before going their separate ways again.

After a few hours, the party died down and people began leaving. Kai and Ember disappeared together, as did Aidyn and Faine. Gaven figured it was about that time, so he too slipped away and returned to his room. He took off his good suit that he had been wearing for the evening, and took his third shower of the day, chuckling as he wiped a bit of flour off the floor from when he had been forced to get cleaned up after the food fight. Stepping out of the shower, he toweled off, dressed in his pajamas, and left the bathroom. He sat up in bed reading for an hour or so before turning out the lights and drifting into a relaxed sleep.

After breakfast the next morning, Gaven returned to his room. He went to the desk, sat down, and pulled out pen and paper. He wrote a brief but thorough letter addressed to his second-in-command, Aden Cloven, explaining that he was taking a job from the Territory Queen to do some poking around in Hollock to see what he could discover about the Rebels and the traitor in Lady Kraeger’s Court. Gaven included a brief mention of the amount that he would be paid, inventing a figure and deliberately setting it lower than what he would normally be paid for this sort of work. Sealing the letter with wax and a touch of the Purple Dusk, he went in search of Allen Kittridge. The Master of the Guard was in his office, and Gaven quietly explained that he needed the message sent to Hollock, by a Territory Court messenger with special instructions to deliberately let the letter fall into the wrong hands. A bit of misinformation, as it were. Allen approved of the plan, and promised to have the message sent and intercepted. Gaven thanked him and left the office.

He next went to the training fields, where he set up a target and called in his bow and arrows. Gaven practiced his shooting for a while before he moved closer, scuffed a line in the dirt to mark the distance, and began throwing his knife, keeping those particular skills well-honed. Gaven had retrieved his blade after a throw and was returning to his line when Aidyn emerged from the manor alone and upon spying Gaven, headed straight for him with a purposeful, borderline belligerent, stride. Great. This didn’t look good.
