I spoke to the Darlington secretary 10 minutes ago. The pitch is OK except for a squidgy bit in the middle which will lend itself to forking. The weather forecast is quite good for the rest of the day and they have asked us to travel, with confidence that they will get the game on. As Twitter says, they've asked for more volunteers to go down, but I sensed there were plenty there already. The team and supporters will be travelling as scheduled on the coach, departing at 10.45am. Twitter says there will be a second inspection at 12pm, but the secretary did not mention that to me or make a big deal of it.

A harsh lesson for our boys today against a very strong and skilful side, who won't be far off the top at the end of the season.

No complaints about the scoreline from any of the 25 travelling Blues. On a heavy but perfectly playable pitch, it was the athletic qualities of the home side which shone through. Big, direct and skilful proved a very potent combination. Most of the goals came from surges through the defence or passes over the top to run on to. It was unfortunate that Danny Morton's 3 match ban for the Lairds' red card kicked in for the game, as Lloyd and Sean were without a focal point in the middle for their efforts. As for Darlington themselves, a very welcoming bunch and the Bishop Auckland ground itself had a bit more character than most out of town grounds, although at times the viewing was a bit useless ie if you weren't leaning on the barrier, there wasn't much of the concrete slab to stand on before going on to grassy banks, which were out of bounds. A long way for a good old fashioned drubbing, but plenty of lessons for the team about football at this level. Match report to follow.

No shame in getting beat by a much better side. Lets bounce back in our next games.

The three sides that have impressed me this season are:-

Ramsbottom, Farsley and Darlington.

Curzon have scored in every game so far this season home and away.

Warrington and Ramsbottom have scored in every game at home.

Losing 6:0 to any team in our league is unacceptable and quite frankly embarrassing. Is this what people wanted when they were asking for exiting attacking football. Until we sort out the defensive side of things we are a mid-table team at best. I've said this many times, keep a clean sheet and the minimum we get is a point, unfortunately this has not been the case that many times this season.
