Lost 0-2 at home to the bottom team. Don't think we had a shot on target. Fed up that we keep losing our better players and that we're relying on borrowing untried youngsters to get a team out! Fed up with players saying they love playing for Clitheroe, then leave as soon as they get offered an extra fiver to play somewhere else! |

Almost impossible to believe that in the last game at Shawbridge, we'd gone toe to toe with Warrington and sent them packing. It seems in non league football that you're only a couple of seven day approaches away from having to rebuild another team. That's why I'm looking for Simon, Ryan and the Sheap to build a team that wants to play and to win together, ideally one that gets on together, and won't get seduced away from their mission to win something by the inevitable wad of fivers once success is sniffed. I know that's their blueprint as well. A lot of what Andy says strikes a chord, but things have been like that for 30 years. Match report to follow tomorrow.

Well below the standard for this level of football. I like the idea trying local lads an upcoming potential but thats not always what fans want to see. Fans like to see good football. Today we didn't see that. So we move on. |

Today was appalling, if the rest of the season is to be a series of trials for local players to work their way onto next seasons team then be up front about it, and get the fans to buy in to it. For the first time in a long while I felt disconnected from the team on the pitch in the main because there are so many new faces week on week. Looking through the programme I noticed that of the 48 goals we have scored only three have been scored by players still in the squad. Also we are on keeper number five... It's hardly surprising the back four is as shaky as it is with no continuity behind it. Today's defensive performance wouldn't look out of place being replayed with the Benny Hill theme being played in the background it was that bad. Says something when the bottom team in the league carve you open with ten men. I'd like to think its just one of those days but I have a feeling we will have this for the rest of the season... On a side note I notice Danny Smith made his debut at Burscough today replacing Chris Dykes in the second half... |

well that my first game for a while and what a load of rubbish. looks like we gone backwards not forward. getting beat by a team that has only won 3 games all season. to many new players comming in a bit like de ja vue reminds me when carl was manager to many new player so we will never have a settled side.if we had played till next christmas we would not score . |

I can't believe we're struggling to get a decent side out, has the budget been cut? |

I thought the Padiham performance was bad but this was far worse. I have watched some rubbish at Shawbridge over the years but this has to rank as one of the worst and against a team bottom of the league with only two wins to their name. I had a feeling we were in for a bad day after looking at the teamsheet, not for the first time this season there were names that were unfamiliar. How on earth are we going to have a successful football team when there are so many changes each week and they all seem to be young players on loan who obviously aren't up to the standard required for this league. We couldn't even force a save out of their keeper in the whole of the game and the defending was abysmal for their goals. Why was there no change of tactics when they had a man sent off, we still played with four at the back. Why are we letting so many good players leave the club? I feel sorry for whoever had to pick a man of the match from that lot. I could go on, but I'm losing interest at an alarming rate. |

I agree on the players leaving, question is why are they going? At least lets have some news on the new faces, who are they, where from? What pedigree? |

Who are the "good" players we've "let" go? Of the team that played so well against Warrington, apart from the keeper, the only change was the front three. Danny Morton had an excellent game in an unaccustomed position but he's serving a 3 match ban (1 to go), Sean Miller was apparently recalled by Chester after the sacking of their manager earlier in the week and Lloyd Dean has signed for a Premier Division team. They've hardly been "let go". It was always going to hard therefore to bring in 3 players that could all make a significant impact on their debuts. What I find frustrating is that Simon says we need experience in the team yet we get young, unknown and inexperienced players each time new faces come in. Chris says the budget hasn't been cut. I'd have thought that Simon would know some experienced players that could come in and do the job for him/us on the money available. Edited by Royf, Jan 14 2014, 08:14 AM.

It's a good point Langoblue makes and one I will personally rectify. When players are signed, I will post the information on the player on the club website. I have also asked each player to send me their details so that I can beef up their profiles on the website. There was also a stated real feeling of disconnect with players previously at the start of the season because they were not being drawn primarily from around the area - that is clearly being rectified now, although I'm sure everyone shares the sentiment that we we want to be successful, settled and feel some connection with players. Who knew Chris Bailey lived within spitting distance of Shawbridge but was playing for Northwich Vics. Ben Proctor is also our first non loan keeper since Richie Mottram left and I would be surprised (for what it's worth), if he didn't play every game for the rest of the season. As everyone says, keepers and defenders need to get an understanding to play at their best. It's unfortunate Danny Morton still has one day of his three match ban for the red card at Cammell Laird to serve, as I know he is a key part of the managers' plans. As for players going, travel distance (and no car in one case), a higher level of football and more money were a factor for both Lloyd and Chewy. Welcome to a market economy. I personally am still looking for a few grizzled warhorses on the pitch as well, but this is a work in progress. To describe it as anything else would be naive. However, it doesn't mean we should expect more performances like Saturday. My view on that was pretty clear in the match report. |

I knew Chris Bailey lived close by,and played at Northwich,he also played for Colne Fc last season,Also Scott Byrom played at Rimminton then Hurst Green before signing on at shawbridge, Theres a lot of local lads in and around Clitheroe but are they good enough ?? We will never know if they aren't given a chance, but is the club, and its spectators willing to be patient, and bring some of these younger lads through. Fact is its a results business and Clitheore in many peoples eyes needs to be in the top six year in,year out,and to be able to achieve this it can't just rely on local players, and thats why the clubs seen such a turn over in bodies over the last few years. Personally i'd love to see a reserve side,or development side back at Shawbridge, theres some really talented young 16-21 year olds around these days, and in my opinion it would benifit the first team personal, and benifit the manager options, but it will come at a cost,so do the club dip into the wage structure,to be able to get a reserve side up and running again. |

The question of a reserve side has been discussed many times before and deemed to be unworkable. Who would run it? What league would they play in. How would it be financed? At this level we can't hope to run a team of local players like they do in the West Lancs league. We need to dip into the pool of talent across the North West as other clubs do. We then need to work out how to develop and retain them. You are always going to have players moving on for tons of reasons. We need to stem the flow by somehow making playing for the club an attractive proposition. Over to the management team ... |

Baudelaire I do agree with part of your post, you can't run many sides never mind CFC with just local players, even at the level i've managed at,ive had players from all over Lancashire, its how you manage, and structure that group that makes the difference. I dont even think a reserve side is whats needed, more of a development side, theres a big difference these days, and theres far more people qualified than me who could run and support the club on this. These days everything costs money, but CFC have a pitch that's capable of more games, and a midweek floodlit league would benefit any players needing match practise, and more game time,it would also in my opinion bridge the gap in the local area from youth to senior level. |

The lancashire league is an excellent reserve division and plays midweek. My point with players is fair enough if they leave for an extra wedge of cash (what other reason to get beat at Droylsden every week) but we have to bring in adequate replacements, go offer the top scorer somewhere another £10 like others seem to do to us. What about likes of Jason Hart at Colne or Peter Wright at Nelson - can't tell me he's not better than what we have up top! |

A reserve side is a thing of the past. To have a reserve side you would need the following minimum. 1) A sponsor who would cover all and I mean all of the costs. 2) A reserve committee to run it all on match days. 3) Far more ground staff to repair the pitch after a game. If you can come forward with all of the above see our Chairperson asap |

I think you will find that we are one of only a few in our league that don't have either a reserve or U21 side. I don't expect that to change as we seem to be a club with very little ambition. |
