Two players have been released from the squad, namely Ben Cartwright and Bram Johnstone. They go with the club's thanks for their contributions and best wishes for their future careers. Five players have been signed to bolster the squad. The first four are all local lads who have been doing well in the local leagues.

Danny Brady - A strong combative centre back who is also comfortable in midfield. Has had a previous short spell with the club. Local lad from Accrington. Been playing for Enfield this Season.
Matt McNamara - Another player who has previously had a short spell at the club. A strong, dynamic striker who has been prolific over the last few years in the local leagues playing for Enfield and Stanhill. Another local lad from Oswaldtwistle.
Paul Cootes - Tall powerful target man who has been scoring goals locally over the last few years, again a local lad from Blackburn
Bryn Potter - 17 year old right winger who was involved with Nelson development squad and Nelson's first Team earlier this season. Tricky winger who has massive potential. Accrington Lad.

The fifth signing is Cial Callacher. A young centre back who has signed on from FC United's Development squad, has played a few cup games for the first team and is looking to develop and gain experience.

See you all at Harrogate.

For completeness, I should also have mentioned the lads we added to the squad last week, in addition to the three who played on Saturday. They are:

Paddy Furey – 19, Bolton based striker who has impressed at his short time at Nelson. Having been plucked from the amateur leagues Furey has pace, aerial ability and an eye for goal. Very much a work in progress but has all the attributes to see him go far in the game.
Louis Percival – 20, A tall lanky attacking midfielder who’s aerial presence mixed with his trickery makes him a handful for any defender. Previously played for Nelson and Oswaldtwistle St Mary’s in the East Lancs Premier Divison. Another who is learning his trade but ticks all the right boxes.
Alex Palfy – 20, ‘The Beast’ is a Accrington based goalkeeper who has been receiving rave reviews in the local game. Alex is a big and tall goalkeeper who is one of the best shot stoppers in the region. He will provide stiff competition for the Blues number 1 jersey.

In addition, the Sheap signed forms - only 28, don't forget!

The ambition seems to be test out all the local lads. I personally don't have any problem with that idea.
Weather permitting see you all at Harrogate.

I'm all for local lads but it would be nice if the descriptions said 'evo-stick experience' or played in conference few years back etc etc. instead we seem to have taken all the players not good enough for Nelson's first team! Didn't take much research to see none of them lads played in NWC 1st division never mind Evo stick.

Thanks for the info LD. Nice to see some local lads being given a chance. I still think a reserve or development team is the way to go, some of these lads are going to be expected to jump up several leagues and thrown in at the deep end.

I personally think it's a huge gamble relying on local lads with little or no experience at this level. However if this is the way it has to be until the end of season, so be it. Good luck to the team today at Harrogate (if it's on?).

I think the assumption is we are safe from the drop and with little chance of top 5 it's a chance to look at local lads in preparation for next season. I'd prefer a few more experienced heads in there as it would give them a better chance but it is what it is. As long as the plan for next season is to bring in experience from the start, blended with the local youngsters who make the grade I can live with it. My only fear is prolific at nwcl and lower doesn't translate to success at evo stik level qnd the retained numbers of these lads may be small.

The step up from playing in the East Lancs League to Evo Stik is massive

ELFL Div 1 > WLFL Div 2 > WLFL Div 1 > WLFL Prem > NWCL Div 1 > NWCL Prem > Evo-Stik First Division North.
