The bobbly surface at Warrington is never conducive to the best display of football, but a combination of lethal finishing by the home side and a 30 minute collective meltdown by the defence masked another solid attacking performance from the Blues. Indeed, the away team took the lead within 10 minutes when Lynchy drove in a sweet shot from the edge of the box. Two minutes later the home team equalised, but things went slightly pear shaped when uncharacteristic errors by Messrs Brady (it should have been Row Z but his scuffed hoof let in the attacker) and Bonaminio (outmuscled in a foot race towards Clitheroe's goal) were harshly punished by superb first time finishes. Top drawer. As the half time whistle approached, neat work by Jimmy Walker down the left and carried on by Seydou saw a great cross to the Big Fella and Sefton powered a great header under the bar. However, the lads showed real naivety as a huge clearance to our left side saw Seydou overcomplicate under minimal pressure and give a free kick away on the corner of the box. This went for a corner, and with seconds of the half to go, Pete Collinge didn't come for the the ball, there was no defensive challenge and the gap was two goals again. A three way substitution of the 18 year old trio of Cattermole, Bent and Mullen added more attacking threat, but in the end the damage had been done. Plenty of positives, but a crazy first half spell did for us. On to Spennymoor and then very quickly to Bolton! |

Beaten by the better team on the night. Had chances, got to bury them, like they did. Pity second half did not live up the expectations of the first. For me we're short of an out and out striker up front to partner Sefton. Missing Jason. |
