A case not even Nick would touch...

So, Xbox Live is a service where you can go and play online with other players, far more reliable than either the PS3 network or the Wii wifi. It went down for a period of time during the holiday season (no more than a day) and we get this:

Some fool trying to sue Microsoft for five million dollars.

I think this is outright ridiculous. How is his time so precious that him not playing Halo 3, or CoD4 or what have you online for a day warrants a lawsuit for five million dollars?

I think this is absurd, and I, personally, am offended.

Furthermore, its a case so hopeless, not even the great Phoenix Wright would take it...

I will be praying to my non-existent gods of gaming tonight, praying that his thumbs be forever cursed...

That is the STUPIDIST thing anyone could do. Yeah Phoenix Wright wouldn't even take it, but doesn't he do murder trials?

BTW- I got myself PW2 today! since he was mentioned.

It was out for like a week or so. That's pretty bad, but suing for 5 million? How about just your subscription fee for that month?

Well people do try to sue big companies for major cash. Anyone remember the Finger in the Wendy's chili incident?

Well, I think it turned out to be her finger... or something...

Anyways, that is understandable. Although, she probably could have settled out of court and kept the whole thing underwraps.

I still think this case is stupid, regardless of how long it was out for. Then again, I think the MLG takes itself too seriously and needs to wake up and smell the coffee.

No I believe that she got it from a co-worker/someone like that and cooked it at like 200 degrees but the police found out that the chili is cooked at 400-something degrees F.

If only for my bitter and stubborn stance that one shouldn't need to pay to play online, I am behind this case.

Sure it's stupid, but the principle is there; either make it worth our money, or don't make us pay.

They'd also get some sympathy from my if their freaking wireless adapter wasn't $100, when even Wii had wireless out of the box.

But $5 million?

Maybe a month free, I'd understand that, its still unreasonable to me, but I'd understand it more.

Also, Microsoft is offering a free arcade game in compensation, last I heard, I still feel this guy is unreasonable, and most of the video gaming world is behind me...

Finally, its not so much about what this one case is about; but think about what this will do to standardize cases like this. Your server down for scheduled maintenance? Sue them! Forums down due to server issue? Sue them!

Seriously, for the sake of all that is right in the world, this case can not pass.

Well this wasn't scheduled, and I can't think of many forums that require membership fees...well, aside of Something Awful, but nobody cares about them. ^_^;

It's with the knowledge of MS' profit-pure profit from the sale of MS points, even- in mind that I make my decision, as well as the fact that Gold members still see ads on their dashboard when logged into Xbox Live. I could understand the ads if nobody was paying for Gold membership, and online play were free since M$ is still a conglomerate of greedy bastards, but there isn't any reason that can justify their current level of avarice.

So yes, the suit is BS, but it isn't too likely to set a standard.

And the real reason why Nick wouldn't touch it? It's not a murder case.

You've obviously never played trials and tribulations.

The second case you do is trying to prove some guy innocent of theft. No murder is involved in that case.

Also, I appreciate some of those "ads". They are called feature slots, sometimes they contain advertisement, but more often they contain publicity for new downloads, more often than not free, or just really good. I can't count the number of times I've gotten something good from those.

Also, this case will establish a precedent, we cannot afford it to succeed.

Also, it couldn't have been shut down for a week straight, cause I was able to access live whenever I got on for the last month, and I get on every day or so for FFXI.

And now there's reports of people losing their achievements. That could quickly result in rioting in the streets.
