Well, the original names make no sense when localized into our language, and therefore are wrong.

True.. so true.. if people used "Rockman" as the localized name for our favorite blue robot.. then people would start saying/thinking "Why is his name "Rockman"? He's not made of rocks!" or anything similiar! Same goes for Protoman! If they used "Blues" it would be like "Why is his name "Blues"? Yet he's red.. that doesn't make any sense! O_o" or "He doesn't play music!"

By agreeing with me, you chip away at my credibility.

Megaman had an actual reason for his name change. "Rock" (crack) was a large problem in the 80s, and Capcom didn't want to set anything off.

Rock, Roll, Blues, Forte, Gospel... you'd have to be monumentally ignorant to miss the connection.

When it comes to the classic Mega Man series I'll usually just use the name Rock, since that was his actual name he transforms into a fighting robot in the US version (MM4 confirms this) as well, and I like to say it. I also stick to the US versions for everyone else as well, because that's what I grew up with. Even though the name Proto Man breaks the musical theme, it makes sense storyline wise and I like it also.

The EXE series is kind of different though. The problem is that I would find out what their Japanese names were months before what the US names were. So I would get into a habit of referring to them with their Japanese names. Also if a robot master from the classic series was made into a navi and their name differed from that in the US version I would use their Japanese/classic series name. (Would use BurnerMan instead of BurnMan, or AquaMan instead SpoutMan which only applied to EXE6.) For some reason though I use the name Blues in EXE, don't really know why other than I like it.

I'll use Shinbok instead of Boktai 3 also, because there was no english Boktai 3.
(I know megamanacses is banned, but I still felt like responding)

I wanna know why they changed Forte's name to Bass. I mean, what was the point? Oh well, Bass and Forte both sound cool anyways.

Folks I will settle this once and for all if you wanna reference the original japanese games you use their japanese names

for the english ones use the english names

and as for shinbok its a shorter name for shin bokura no taiyou
the other names are

boktai---> Boktai 1

zoktai---> Boktai 2

shinbok---> boktai 3

other common names are
rockman
blues
forte

and they become

megaman
Protoman
bass

get it
