If you really want to know then I'll tell you, but lets just say for the moment that you only saw a portion of that Matt.

Ah. Well if you don't want to tell me you don't have to. I don't want you to feel like you have to reveal all your regrets to me =)

For all intents and purposes, I've always percieved you as a pretty cool dude.

Matt is a cool dude ;-)

But that's when Matt is actually Matt.

And I don't mind sharing, you'll just have to wait until I can get to a real keyboard. I really don't have the time yo type all of it from my phone.

This is such a heavy thread.
Sorry about your sleeping troubles, Matt. I used to have sleeping troubles myself. I'm better now.

Sum, teach me how to breathe :(
Sometimes I feel like I'm only taking in a small about of air and my chest and diaphragm are all closed up.

Well this is a thread about life. So some heaviness is to be implied.

Now as to the question of what was wrong sigh Matt the senior in high school.

Well to start off that Matt was incredibly lazy. He never cared about school which ended up messing a lot up for him. He was incredibly flaky on almost everything. He cared about two things in life: video games, and being single (granted that is a normal concern). He also never knee what hr wanted to do, or for that matter when. But I would have to say that the worst thing about him was that he never really cared about living. As depressing as that is, it's one hundred percent true. Most of those problems are no longer around, but they still tend to surface. As much as I hate to admit it, I suffer from depression. And my mother thought I did since freshman in high school, but my pediatrician just blew her off. Come to find out, I DO suffer from it.

So I'm a far better person than I used to be, but one of the side effects of my meds is that I don't sleep so well anymore. Not to mention that I'm far more tired now. But yea, that's about it.

Well then, true Matt is a pretty cool guy =)

I'm sorry Kate!

Okay, so there are three breathing techniques that I'm learning

Deep Diaphragmatic Breathing/Deep Belly Breathing (DBB)-

> Breathe into the belly and feel it rise and fall
> Practice doint this technique at a relatively slow pace, as slow and as deep as is comfortable for you
>Inhale and exhale gently
>Ideally, you will be inhaling and exhaling through your nose. However, if it is more comfortable for you to exhale though the mouth, that is fine. The inhale should definitely bo through the nose

Modified Pranayama (MP)- (My personal favorite. It relaxes me more than deep belly...)

>Initially, even out the length of your inhale and exhale
>Then work toward exhaling for at least two counts longer than the inhale
>You can experiment with lengthening both the inhale and exhale, however, be sure to stay within your comfort zone
>Ideally work toward a four count inhale and an eight count exhale

Pain Management Breathing (PMB)- (This is the breathing I was practicing when she told me that I had a third eye...)

If you are experienceing painr or physical discomfort, this may be a technique to utilize. The ideas is to imagine breathing in and out of the precide area of pain. This can require both the ability to visualize and go with your natural sense of creativity. While visualizing the breath moving through the area of discomfort, also attempt to feel the breath moving through this area.

You can try inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the region of pain or both inhaling and exhaling through the region of pain.

There is a fourth, but I haven't learned it yet, and it's kind of silly. (Alternate Nostril Breathing...)

Ignore my above post.

Matt, I'm sorry that you had to suffer with that for so long, but really happy that you've found some peace with it!

I understand the sacrifice too. Depression versus sleeplessness... I'd pick the drugs too.

ignore your above post? why??

Matt, that stinks, I'm sorry. But at least you're better - side effects aside.

Thanks Sum! I should try that. I have debilitating headaches almost every day so the breathing might help.
