Okay, so in a different thread, Elorna asked me what I am planning on doing with my life, since I'm in college and that means that I have to be a grown up and have A LIFE. Serious stuff... So I was wondering what other people are planning for their futures. You gotta goal? Doesn't matter if your old or in college or anything. If you wanna be the #1 Chello player in the world, please share. Anyway, here's my "goal": You can't hear it, but I'm making that "blupffffttttt" sound, like when you flap your lips. That's what thinking of my future does to me. I'm currently stuck between two possibilities, because I'm unsure, but I'm leaning more heavily towards being a teacher... It's between teacher (thrid grade or maybe high school english/science <omg) and psychologist (child or family) I've recently started making my friends take a coded test. I say "Choose One" and then they mark a box with a mysterious letter in it. Really, their choosing between careers for me, and then specialties in those careers. Aren't I sneaky? Of course, I'm not going to choose based on randomly selected letters marked by people who also don't know what their doing with their lives, but it's a fun way to pass the time in Dirty Thirty (Bio-30, Human Reproduction). However, their imput after I reveal to them the meaning of letters is usually: Shock at my tretchery, an evaluation of their answers, and then either agreement or disagreement, which gives me a rough idea of what they would choose for my future if it were up to them. Anyway, I'm leaning towards teaching because of the life benefits. Now, a "good, steady salary" is not on that list, but teaching is such a versitle tool to have, and I love kids and teaching (I'm teaching now in my church. 10 y/o's! I feel so old. They call me "Sister Madderra" and I'm like, "Dude, that's my mom..." Anywho... I love it and I think I could do it and right now it's sounding really really good to me. Any thoughts? |

I don't really understand your coded test... but how devious of you, Summer! I personally picture you as a teacher, Sum. You have joy, light, energy, empathy, sincerity (amongst many other things!) that would make you a terrific teacher - especially elementary I think. My entire life I have been working towards becoming a teacher. Since grade 2, I just knew. Some people have told me "don't limit yourself to one career" but I honestly don't see any other career out there for me. Anything besides teaching is incomprehensible to me. Like, what would I do? Teacher. Now there's something I can picture. In fact, I am constantly told by other people, even complete strangers, that I'd make a good elementary school teacher. YAY. I mean I doubt I'll be the next Ms. Frizzle. (Come on, who can top that??)But I've done assistant teaching before, loved it, and now I'm on my way to pursuing it... just 3 more years of school........ yaaaaay. EDIT: ANNNND the good thing about teaching is I think a lot of the things we learn in psychology can come in handy in the classroom. Best of both worlds. Edited by Elrona, Thu Mar 17, 2011 9:03 am.

Amen! Aww thank you! I've always pictured you as a teacher. You're right, I can't picture you as anything else. Haha the test was like so: Choose One: T P (Teacher or Psychologist, but they didn't know that) Choose One: H E (High school or Elementry) Choose One: E S (English or Science for teaching High school) Choose One: C F (Child or Family for psychology) Anyway, their results didn't help my any other than that I realized that I felt some answers were wrong, which means I have a preferance, and it's teaching. |

Haha thanks! I thought so too! I knew that if I asked them flat out then I'd get their opinion or none at all, but I wanted mine. |

Summer is a techno wiz!! I think you both will be AMAZING teachers. Your kids will love you. I'm going to pursue a full time volunteer work through my chustch and become a linguist. (there's a technical term for that... But eh) Edited by MickeyMouse, Sat Mar 26, 2011 5:58 am.
