Name, Age: To all of you lovelies, I’m Poetry. And I’m 21~ woo legality!

Do you play an instrument? If yes, which one and for how long?:

Sure do! I’ve played piano for over 12 years, guitar for about 3, various percussive instruments, tambourine, choir chimes, and I sing. I’m a mezzo/alto.

Character you apply for: Hino Kahoko

How often will you be able to role-play?:

As often as people are active. I think I can definitely handle the 4 a week goal most of the time, especially since there are no character journals to tackle.

Picture of character:

Character Description (biography, behaviour, relationships...):

Born February 27, with a blood-type of AB, Hino Kahoko is a second year student at Seiso’s General Education department, in Class 2, which places her roughly in age by the end of the concours at age 17. She has one older sister and brother, and before her forced and unexpected entrance into the competition, her life was nothing special, at least in her eyes. Hino is an average student who struggles to focus on her studies, with two close friends, when the little music fata drops into her life and gifts her with a magic violin that she is to play as part of the concours. At first, Hino’s lack of confidence in herself leads her to panic and reject the gift, but she gains faith in herself and a passionate love of music and the violin as the series progresses. Hino has a strong sense of justice and fights for what is right, even when it doesn’t benefit her, as evidenced by her rescuing Tsukimori from the locker during the competition even though his absence would allow her to move up in the rankings, or her defending Fuyuumi. Her normal personality is cheerful and a bit clueless, with a hard-working attitude that shines through whatever she does. She’s also a real klutz sometimes. She is kind-hearted and willing to look past a person’s exterior to see the good in them, even when it is difficult to find, but she also panics on occasion and doubts her own abilities. Despite her mediocre performance in the classroom, her native emotional and relational intelligence is quite great, enabling her to befriend almost everyone she meets. However, she rarely thinks of romance, and attempts to woo her generally go right over her head.

Hino’s relationships with the other concours participants are quite complex, and demonstrate the full range of her personality when interacting with others.

Tsukimori challenges her to remain bubbly and persevere in the face of his outward rejection. His cold and stoic personality does not rebuff her, however, and Hino vastly admires his dedication to his music. The first song she ever heard on the violin was Tsukimori’s Ave Maria, and the intensity of the feeling expressed in the music sealed her conviction that the violin was beautiful and the boy who played it had hidden depths. Tsukimori also makes her wary, because he has suspicions that her sudden musical talents are not what they seem, and she doesn’t want him to find out her secret.

She has a strong bond with Tsuchiura-kun, as he is the other gen-ed participant in the concours, and was friendly to her even before she became popular through music. Kaho wants him to embrace his extraordinary talent and not be reticent about playing the piano. She begs him constantly to play Chopin for her, and they are always ribbing each other and joking around with a faux-competitive sort of spirit.

Fuyuumi and Kahoko have a sort of sisterly relationship, being the only girls amidst a sea of testosterone. She wants the shy girl to blossom and be proud of herself, and the fact that Shouko looks up to Hino makes her feel more than slightly guilty, because she feels that she doesn’t deserve the praise or admiration. Knowing inside that she’s a musical fraud, Hino does her best to be honest with Fuyuumi in other ways, as a friend and protector.

Kaho is confused about Shimizu and worries if he gets enough sleep since he always seems tired. The thing she respects most about this sleepy junior is that he seems to live and breathe cello, and always immerses himself in music and tries to learn more by attending concerts and exhibitions. His technical knowledge astounds her and humbles her, because she has so far to go in that department herself. Though they don’t speak much, their quiet companionship finds them together in some very strange places, just listening to an outdoor concert, lost in thought.

Yunoki makes her immensely uncomfortable and she hates being alone with the sly senior. His falsely polite, perfect personality grates on her because he has revealed to her the devious and manipulative person beneath it all. He flirts with her on levels that make her quite embarrassed and is quite cruel, which bothers Hino, because he shows two faces- one to the world and one to her, and she has no idea why Yunoki has decided to “favor” her with his true dark nature. It’s a favor she’d really rather do without, but she also feels a bit sorry for the senior- it must be lonely to never be able to be yourself.

Hihara is quite possibly her favorite out of the concours participants. The boy’s exuberant personality clicks with her own and they have a similar affinity for junk food and sweets. Hihara’s joy in his instrument inspires Kahoko to feel similar happiness and express it through her playing, and his continual cheerleading and confidence in her helps her be at ease in an otherwise stressful situation. Content to spend time with him playing bizarre duets between violin and trumpet, talking enthusiastically about music and life, or just pigging out, these two had an instant friendship that has only solidified over time.

Your goals? (what do you plan with your character?)

In this brand new start, I plan to strengthen her bonds with her fellow concours participants, and slowly introduce her to the fact that some of them may or may not be taking a more than friendly interest in her. Because this one’s oblivious as can be, and it’ll take some time for her to wake up and hear the music, as it were (poetry is open to all potential pairings, fyi, including HinoxOC if that happens). I also really want her to get more girl-time in with the lovely ladies she’s met, if anyone wants to rp reporters or shy clarinetists with me. And last but definitely not least, Hino’s going to get serious about music, now that she respects it and loves it, so she’ll be spending a lot of time in the practice rooms and generally loitering around other violinists, hoping to pick up some tips by watching them.

Short sample RP (~10 lines): Hino looked around for someone to eat lunch with, preferably Mio or Nao, as she had been busy practicing lately and hadn’t seen much of her two friends. The campus was warm and sunny, a refreshing change from the previous week’s rainy weather, but sadly, Kahoko couldn’t locate the girls. Resolving she would find someone else and actually not eat alone this time, Kahoko headed boldly toward the music department, reasoning that with her violin case in hand, she belonged there as much as anyone else. Passing by a certain purple-haired senior and his gaggle of adoring fans, she hurried her steps slightly, not wanting to be recognized and way-laid by Yunoki bodyguards. In sheer relief, when she spotted Shimizu dozing by a column, she headed in his direction with her lunchbox in tow. Sitting down beside him quietly, so as not to awaken him prematurely, she softly touched his shoulder and said, “Good afternoon, Shimizu-kun. Is this seat taken?” Smiling apologetically in case she had startled him, she took out her chopsticks and stared down at her lunch.

“It’s a very nice afternoon, isn’t it?”

God, this was pathetic conversation she was making. Why was she so awkward? It was the music department, she was sure of it. This place always drained away her confidence like a leech, making her feel inadequate and unworthy of her instrument. Even though the magic had gone out of the violin and she’d come in last place in the competition, Hino still felt like she’d cheated somehow, and that guilt tinged her conversations with her fellow participants even now.
