Name, Age: Nami-swami, as you all hopefully remember. :> I am almost 16. Twenty more days from this edit.

Do you play an instrument? If yes, which one and for how long?: I used to play the flute and the piano. I focus on choral music now, like Kanayan!

Do you have any RPing experiences? Four+ years of it behind me.

How often will you be able to role-play?: The one post minimum a week should be no sweat, but there will be random periods as to when I'm gone- i.e. I'm not even around a computer, due to things like State Conferences, etc. But otherwise, if there's a computer, I'm here, depending on my homework load, hurrr.

Character Name: Honoka Chinatsu (Nickname is “Chika” though nobody other than herself refers to her that way anymore.)

General Education Department or Music Department? Which year?: Music Department, 1st Year

Does your character play an instrument? If yes, which one and how well does your character play it ("ability level")?: Oboe. She’s fond of the instrument, but isn’t particularly good at it. She has “room for improvement” and that’s the basis at which she was allowed to enter Seiso.

Character Description - Please keep in mind that you are allowed to add as much detail as you want to your character

A first year at Seiso Academy, Chinatsu’s name is often associated with her bright, incomprehensibly happy smile and childish appearance. Standing at a petite 5’, her build is small and compact, with womanly curves visible only around her waist. Her hair, though originally black in color, is bleached and dyed to a light, pale auburn, while her innocent eyes are an unusual deep green thanks to a pair of colored contacts. Her button nose sits just right, between her eyes and delicate lips. Her eyebrows are shaped and plucked to perfection, a little shorter and thinner than they would’ve been otherwise. Very picky about her hair, Chinatsu uses a combination of ‘bed head’ and ‘style’ to fashion her shoulder length hair into two messy little pigtails on either side of her head, while spinning her long bangs into a spiral on her head and pinning them up. Due to her hair being heavily layered, somewhat tamed flyaways escape her pigtails, but most of them are loosely controlled by bow-tie bobby pins framing the hair about her face.

Chinatsu’s respect as a music major is undermined due to the fact that she simply doesn’t improve. No matter how hard she practices, it seems as if she doesn’t make any progress at all. Her clumsy fingers, short-attention span, and low work ethic make for a very bad combination when she sits down to play her oboe. Even though she’s only a first year, most of her fellow oboists generally dislike her simply because she’s so terrible at the instrument, and she tends to be the only one dragging everyone else down during sectionals. However, as long as they’ve never played a piece of music with her, she gets along with all kinds of people. Chinatsu practically embodies the phrase, “Ignorance is Bliss” outside of the soundproof practice rooms, and the only hate that seems to penetrate her barrier of oblivious joy is the dislike that exudes from the other oboists, whom she is most keen on becoming closer to. After her first few weeks in Seiso however, Chinatsu rearranged her priorities, began to practice alone rather than in a group, and chose simpler pieces due to the fact that her confidence was steadily dropping with each session. She has no knack for sight-reading, but instead has to gruelingly dredge her way through the entire piece at least a few times before she can start picking up the actual rhythm. Though Chinatsu may seem like an utter failure at actually playing the oboe, she’s an excellent reed maker, and she excels at interpretive work such as music analysis and basically anything related to music that doesn’t actually require playing. This simply isn’t good enough for her chosen major however, and as such, she struggles through practice and perfects only about three pieces of music per month.

Growing up in a low to middle class family in southern Japan, Chinatsu was never expected to make anything out of her music. She lived in a very small town where she was the best oboist around, self studying and performing regular recitals in her school’s talent shows. She excelled in anything music when faced with the low standards of a poor town that had no other musicians. Chinatsu always loved the oboe and singing the most however. After her last few years of middle school, she decided that she wanted to make music her major. Her parents were against it, but she managed to scrape her way past the entrance exam to Seiso, labeled as a girl who had much potential to improve. Hard work and diligence would be required in order to keep up, they told her, but Chinatsu was sure she could take it. So her parents sent her to her Uncle, the younger brother of Chinatsu’s mother. Rukou Seta was much more prosperous than Chinatsu’s family, and he was the relative that lived closest to Seiso. He played the piano, and so he would be able to help if Chinatsu had any problems, she was told. Everything was set up for her perfect highschool life.

Yet it wasn’t. Seta’s profession lay in jazz, and he played only by ear. He was no help when it came to Bach and Mozart. The lessons and self-teaching that Chinatsu had done at home weren’t enough to keep up with the city kids. Within two weeks she was contemplating going home. But every time she felt down enough to start considering going home, she would remember that her parents were shelling out the money for her tuition, and that she needed to live up to the expectations. And when she began thinking about how things would be if she came home with her tail between her legs, she determined that she couldn’t go back, because she wouldn’t deflate the hopes of her town.

Despite the difficulties of her lifestyle at the present time however, Chinatsu seems to register nothing about the fact that her student position at Seiso is in jeopardy if she doesn’t shape up- only every now and then does she consider the fact that she herself, does not enjoy life at Seiso. Otherwise, she passes her days as if they were like any other days, and has absolutely no care in the world, as long as she is not playing or listening to anything that even remotely sounds like an oboe that reminds her of her troubles.

+Relationships+

Rukou Seta (Uncle) – Acting as Chika’s parental unit, Seta is a very strange man. His wavy midnight black hair is always messy, as if he’s just woken up, and traces of a shaggy goatee can be found on the end of his chin. A moderately well-off man who used to be a professional show bartender, he is a very irresponsible man, though only older than Chika by about eight years. As such, he treats Chika more like a younger sister, and doesn’t hesitate to boss her around. He drinks heavily, but holds his alcohol as if it were water. He works as a bartender at a top-notch club, and is home during the day, before 8:00 PM and after 4:00 AM. He doesn’t particularly care what Chika chooses to do, as long as she stays out of trouble, and unfortunately, Seta doesn’t quite pay enough attention to her to realize that she’s failing school. (And he doesn’t quite care enough when they phone him, because he wasn’t a very good student himself.) He is a genuinely fun-loving guy however, and is well liked by Chika and the people he encounters.

Nakashima Saeko – A model who dates Chika’s Uncle on and off, she is the main reason why Chika was able to find an outlet through fashion. She is just as irresponsible as Seta, making them a haphazardous pair, though very nice people overall. She gives Chika the feminine side of advice, and enjoys listening to Chika play the piano, sing, and play the oboe. She uses Chika as a doll of sorts, and she is Chika’s dream idol- Tall, slender, graceful, and beautiful. She’s vaguely aware of Chika’s situation at school, but also chooses to do nothing, for a more noble reason as to the fact that she feels that Chika should realize her problem on her own. On the other hand, Chika is also aware of the fact that the model has her own problems due to her career, and prefers not to bother Saeko with her own problems if she can help it.

Sample RP (>=10 lines):

Oh how she hated days like this. Days where she’d be stuck wandering the halls aimlessly because all the practice rooms were taken, and she was too bad to perform on the roof or in the courtyard like everyone else. Gripping the flimsy handle of her oboe, she scurried along the hallways, the sleeve of her blazer brushing against the bulletin boards and dry wall as the she tried to be as unassuming as possible. Chinatsu didn’t want to run into the ensemble, and she most certainly didn’t want to be found by a teacher, who would lecture her on “practice makes perfect” for the next hour or so. She climbed stairs- stairs, stairs, and more stairs, until she was at the very top of the building. One push of the door and she felt like her ears had been ripped right out of her ears. Even the door was adding to the music- a banshee like shriek and then a dying squeak. So much for being a wallflower. She slipped out into the light breeze and looked around. Three people. She wouldn’t play, but she’d listen- that was kind of like practicing, right? She didn’t really like listening to music anymore, but there was an exam coming up soon; She had to do something to push this guilty feeling away. She listened primarily to a flutist, curling up into the fetal position against the wall, basking in the warmth of the sun as her black oboe case began to grow hot from the rays of light. The music… it was… The girl’s head sunk into her shoulders. She couldn’t identify it. Perhaps it wasn’t a famous piece? It sounded… like Chopin. Like? The key… was definitely… minor? Chopin, minor, chopin, minor. For flute? She didn’t know anything about that!

She leaned her head on her arms, deciding she didn’t like this song any better than the others that were filtering in from the other ends of the rooftop. Soon enough, she was daydreaming, thinking about what she’d buy on the way home for dinner. Seiji would have left for work by the time she got home, and he couldn’t cook. Perhaps some plain inori would be good. Not very nutritious… but that didn’t really matter to Chinatsu. She opened her messenger bag, which sat on the opposite side of her case, pulling out a little knife and an unfinished reed. At the very least, she could make reeds to kill time. Maybe a better reed would produce better results on her exam with a little boost of smooth sound. She had one that was already cut- and while she listened with an increasingly bored expression to the flutist’s practice session, she wrapped the reed, waiting for enough time to pass so that she could go home without anyone questioning her work ethic. Not that they wouldn’t anyway. But that was okay. They could think what they wanted, because as far as Chinatsu was concerned, she was good enough for herself. People often said that the person who was the hardest to live up to was yourself, didn’t they?

The thought cheered Chinatsu up, and after she finished wrapping her reed, she put the box of equipment back into her bag and picked up her things, leaving the rooftop.

Listening to a flute wouldn’t do her any good anyway.
