Kahoko returned the mock bow with a very silly curtsy before heading inside herself, watching him assess the store and its contents with an eager gaze, trying and failing to hide an indulgent smile. She loved everything about this place and was happy to share it with Hihara-senpai. The way it smelled, the various instruments lying about, the piano in the back, the illicit videotape collection of the concours participants when they were younger, the fatherly store owner, and the music. Of course the music. She loved that most of all.

"No, no, I'm excited too,"she murmured, wondering what treasures Hihara might find that she'd previously overlooked. It was at about that time that the store owner made his presence known...and began to thoroughly embarrass her. Perhaps that was his role, embarrassing those students he cared for, she thought now as the words came out of his mouth and she looked on in bemusement. The second time today!

"Ahhh," the kind gentleman opined. "You are more than welcome here. I've been waiting for the day this one-" and here he nodded, winking, at Kahoko, "-would bring in a nice young man. I'm delighted to meet you. And what instrument do you play? Ah, no, I think I can guess, you've been eying the trumpet selection since you walked in. Brass. Am I right?"

Kahoko just stood amidst the rows of sheet music and blinked rapidly, wondering if her face looked as on fire as it felt. First the waiter, and now this! They had both meant well, but misunderstood. They had misunderstood, hadn't they? Or was this...was this a...was she on a...?!

Frozen smile in place, Kahoko busied herself shuffling through the violin scores, unsure, yet again, what to do. She was beginning to think that these people knew something she didn't.

"Ahhh. You are more than welcome here. I've been waiting for the day this one-" the store proprietor nodded toward Kahoko, throwing her a teasing wink, "-would bring in a nice young man. I'm delighted to meet you. And what instrument do you play? Ah, no, I think I can guess, you've been eying the trumpet selection since you walked in. Brass. Am I right?"

"I-we...um..." Hihara stumbled over his words. He was certain his face was showing his embarrassment by the warmth of his cheeks and the knowing smile flickering over the elderly man's lips.

Brush it off, Kazuki! he reprimanded himself mentally. I don't need to look stupid and embarrass Kahoko more all at the same time.

Faced between talking about music and trying to explain his relationship with Kahoko, Hihara simply jumped into the middle of the the older gentleman's conversation. Hopefully Kahoko wouldn't be offended that he hadn't valiantly insisted on their friendship, that she wouldn't read too much into it and assume Hihara was trying to catch her up in a relationship she didn't want. "Yes, sir. I do play the trumpet. I hadn't even seen you yet and you can already tell all that. What am I, an open book?" he joked.

Hihara took in the shop's entirety with a broad sweep of one arm. "We came here hoping you might have come across any music for a trumpet/violin duet. Or any music that we might tweak to fit that purpose. Kahoko's been telling me about how great this place is and all that great things she's found here so we both thought this would be the best place to look."

Ignoring the fading warmth in his cheeks, Hihara closed his eyes for a brief moment. The smell of the place...it smelled like music. It might be a bit odd to think of music as having a smell, but all these smells--from the papery smell of sheet music to the distinct smell of instruments to the smell of rosin--it all was part of a smell that reminded Hihera of music. Afterall, the smells surrounded him nearly all day and it was a comfort to him because he loved every aspect of music.

Opening his eyes again, Hihara smiled brilliantly, his enthusiasm almost tangible. "Of course, I wouldn't mind finding a great piece just for the trumpet as well."

"Haha," Kahoko chimed in nervously, worrying at her lower lip with her teeth, her fingertips grabbing desperately at a violin piece she hadn't seen before on a nearby rack. She buried her face in it, focusing intently on the music (well, pretending to, anyway, although she secretly continued to eavesdrop on the conversation between Hihara and the shop owner. This was the second time today they'd been mistaken for a couple! What on earth was going on in the world today?)

Far from being offended, she was relieved that neither she nor he had to explain things which were, quite frankly, not as they seemed. She assumed nothing of the sort, being of an innocent mind, and aside from flushing bright red behind her score, thought little of it, save that coincidence was running high today.

"Well, you kind of ARE an open book, senpai," Kahoko pointed out, a tiny smile spreading over her face. Oh, and HOW. Kazuki's mood was always obvious, no matter how he tried to hide his worry or his joy--although he never hid his joy, really, now that she--wait a minute. Had she just thought of him in her head as 'Kazuki'? S-surely not. No. That would be weird.

Anyway, focus! What was the owner saying? Oh, yes. He was heading into the back room and searching for a duet piece for them, trying to see if he had anything they could customize to fit. From the determined glint in his eyes, she could tell they wouldn't be leaving until he'd found what they were looking for. The owner was wonderful like that. And although she didn't know what HIHARA (she corrected herself firmly) was thinking, she would have agreed wholeheartedly that this place, of all places, smelled like music. It even felt like music. She loved spending time here. Almost like visiting a temple...paying homage to what she loved so dearly.

"I think he may have found something," she murmured excitedly, as the owner came striding back into the front room of the shop.

//I tried to post Wednesday, but my web browser shut off on me when I was almost done and I didn't feel like retyping it... So here is a new one. Sorry if it's a bit short, but I kinda lost my motivation since it was a rewrite, sort of. XD//

"Well, you kind of ARE an open book, senpai," Kahoko retorted playfully.

Hihara childishly stuck his tongue out at Kahoko, a twinkle in his eyes, but he didn't refute her claim. He might have brought it up as a bit of a joke, but it was also true. He knew very well that whatever emotion he was feeling would be worn on his face; it was how he had been as long as he could remember. Hihara didn't think about it much, it was simply how he was and people usually accepted--and liked---that trait. Throughout his schooling many of his peers sought out his company because his emotions were so honest. A person who displayed his or her emotions as they were felt and obviously wasn't tweaking emotions for the best reception by others...well, in Hihara's experience people liked it. Of course, he had also found that sometimes his 'open-book' personality irritated others. Thankfully Kahoko wasn't one of those. Would they have been able to become such good friends otherwise?

Turning his attention back to the situation at hand, Hihara's eyes followed the store owner until he had disappeared into the back room. Taking the moment to look around once more, Hihara took a few steps toward the location of the trumpet music. He paused. He glanced back at Kahoko but she still appeared to be interested in piece of violin music she had picked up not long after the owner had called the two of them a couple.

As he snatched up the first trumpet music he came across and glanced over it. It was a familiar piece, one he had learned before, but it brought a smile to his face as he recalled the hours he spent practicing. Setting the music back, he picked up a new piece and his grin grew wider. One he hadn't learned yet. "We haven't been here long and I've already found something I might buy," Hihara laughed as he scanned the music. "I really like this place already."

Just as Hihara turned his eyes to Kahoko, the sound of footsteps heralded the owner's return from the back room. Kahoko murmured just loud enough to be heard, "I think he may have found something."

"I hope so!" Hihara replied fervently.
