Liebesträume for all that we may see or seem is but a dream within a dream. who? Fuyuumi and Shimizu. where? campus grounds ~*~ "A-ah..." But he took no notice, that little angel sitting (no, sleeping) sideways in the grass, weeds sprouting up around him as if he were a statue that had lain there since the beginning of the era. "S-shimizu-kun?" The petite clarinetist wondered if he was still breathing. She was but a passer-by who stopped to stare, to look at the headless Samothrace or whatnot -- that ancient Venus de Milo (but a man, it is a man!). "Are you all right?" She knew he wouldn't answer (somehow). Perhaps she knew all along that he would not wake up to her entreaties. And she saw his book bag sitting next to him. Nobody had stolen it (but who would steal from one that looks like a small child, after all?), and unsteadily placed her hand on top of it. She wasn't going to take anything. That's what she told herself as she opened the flap and pulled out a book on musical theory. Thumbed through it hesitantly (he has good taste, she noted, not exactly appreciative and not exactly dismissive either). She put the book back where she found it and sat next to him, listening to his rhythmic breathing. Gently shook the sleeping boy and found herself staring at the yellowed mass of curls like fine crowning glitter-gold tangles atop his head. It meant nothing to notice is (she is not Aschenbach nor Humbert Humbert), but indeed it seemed very, very pretty. She pulled her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms round herself, as is atypical. "Shimizu-kun, please wake up." She didn't know what they'd talk about -- or perhaps they would talk of nothing and just sit and watch the clouds. They are the least speakers, the nay-sayers (for they say naught and nay and nothing), and they are the same (but not quite). All's the more, she wanted to speak to him, and he wouldn't awaken. Sleeping beauty sleeping (everything is a dream, you know!). For us shadows will liven up the day-time day time and let the sun shine in and all's well ends well. That's what they say (they lie). He had tried not to. He had made an effort not to succumb... but it was difficult. That patch of grass had just looked so inviting. He couldn't resist. His dreams were filled with the most-loved thing in his life: music. What else? The graceful notes, varying in speed and softness, dancing around in his mind like a gentle breeze of blissfulness. Then the whirlwind, a cacophony of jumbled, intense notes, swept in and lifted the flowing notes off their dainty feet-- and what a strange yet tasteful dance it was! A few hours later (or maybe just eternity) Keiichi blinked his eyes slowly, not yet ready to leave his moment (for it seemed like it, to him) of felicity. What had awoken him, he couldn't be sure; had it been the soft voice he had vaguely heard as his dream was surging on? In any case, he was now awake, and through slightly blurry eyes was able to make out the silhouette of a girl. Keiichi closed his eyes again, trying to think of who would be watching him in his sleep. Kahoko, maybe. His heart almost lifted at the thought of the mysterious person being her; he always enjoyed his quiet moments with Kahoko, whether he was admiring her playing or giving her spirit a boost in confidence. If the person really was a girl, the only other possibility (in his mind, at least) would be... Fuyuumi. That would be nice, too; her personality was befitting to his-- two quiet personalities that brought only moments of peace when together. The only way to solve the mystery would be to open his eyes, so Keiichi proceeded to do so. He saw a girl curled up in a sitting position, with pale cyan-green hair. He smiled slightly; Fuyuumi it was, and what a tranquil conversation they would soon share. |

"H-hello, Shimizu-kun," she said hesitantly, not even beginning to wonder what was going on (what was going on, after all?). She gently waved to him and then quickly snapped her arm back down to her side -- what was she thinking? How awkward could she look?! "How have you been?" Oh. God. What awful small talk. She furrowed her brow but only relaxed moments later to look at the clouds. "It's beautiful today, isn't it?" She wondered what'd they'd talk about. Maybe clouds or composers or bar lines. Staffs and clefs. She can read a little bit of the bass clef from her pianist days -- but she is hardly as good as Ryotaro in any case. She wondered where the pianist was. Probably off playing soccer ... or something. Maybe talking to Kaho-chan. Her friend made her wonder about how they felt. How everyone felt. Relationships had become more and more complex as the weeks flew by, and the most pressing was how did she feel towards Shimizu Keiichi? Well, possibly ambivalence. That was all. |

"It's beautiful today, isn't it?" Keiichi also looked up at the sky, watching the clouds appear to float peacefully by. The sky was a soft, pretty shade of blue, and it didn't seem as if rain would start coming down. So, yes, the day definitely seemed beautiful... unless something other than rain, like... music notes... started raining down on them unexpectedly. If that started happening, Keiichi wouldn't know how to act. Should he catch some and play them later, or hide under the nearest shelter? Because, after all, some of the music notes could be sharp. "Hnn... yes." Keiichi answered, reaching out a hand to point out a particular cloud. "That one... it looks like a flower, doesn't it?" A cloud flower..., Keiichi mused, as delicate as the girl beside me. Edited by Fahrin, May 17 2009, 04:08 AM.

"Yes, it does." (She shrugged and only pointed at another.) "And this one could be a lamb, maybe." The fluffy cloud passed by, almost as if it were frolicking through the sky. She had too much of an overactive imagination sometimes, she chided herself. It would get her nowhere. "How have you been, Shimizu-kun?" she added a little tentatively. She had slowly begun to speak more, rehabilitating herself through friendship, love, and awkward silences. "I-I'm doing well, if you wanted to know." She inwardly laughed at the thought, but also hoped he wouldn't go to sleep again on her. That wouldn't be very good at all. |

"I-I'm doing well, if you wanted to know." Ah... that was good to hear. Keiichi continued staring at the sky, measuring his days and wondering if he, too, had been doing well. Hmm... he'd practiced until 12 the other day, and slept for most of the rest of the day... and yesterday he had bought new music sheets, which he'd practiced until 2 A.M. "I've been doing well, also." Keiichi paused, debating about something in his head. He finally sat up and pulled out an mp3 player from one of his pockets, sticking one ear bud in his right ear and handing the other to Fuyuumi. He silently turned the device on, browsing through his many classical songs, trying to find this particular one... aha. "This one... what do you think of it?" He turned and looked expectantly at the shy girl beside him, blinking away the tiredness still lingering on his eyes. Edited by Fahrin, Jun 19 2009, 10:26 PM.

Fuyuumi took the earbud with shaking hands and pressed it to her ear. It was always a foreign feeling, to hear someone else's music: their tastes may be utterly different (for all she knows, he likes soaring neoclassical and she meek, timid rather melancholy romanticism)-- and the fact that music was like infringing upon another domain entirely, to step into Oz and never come out. "I-I like it," she said hesitantly as the flutes and the violins took up the tune, oboes whizzing by expectantly on long scales and clarinetists drawing forth deep, rich tones from the bottom of their reeds. The cellos and basses were in harmony and she hummed along, slightly, as the leitmotif and theme popped up again. "What about you?" |
