Ran kept a close eye on her classmate, worried that her injured legs would give in on her and just...break down. She felt so guilty over everything; she had no intention of injuring the latter, yet she had. Though Suzume came off as strong, Ran was still worried. Even after she regained her balance and stood on her own two feet, Ran couldn't keep her wary eyes away from the girl. She clenched her fist so tightly that her nails pierced into her skin. Ran, finally giving in to her guilt, walked next to Suzume and linked her arm with hers.

"I-It's all my fault, Takehara-san..I should help you get to Katagiri-kun's place...I'm sorry for all of the inconvenience."

Ran quickly bowed, and followed Suzume's pace. She tried to clear her mind with something...anything that would cheer herself up.

Taro's house?

I wonder how it looks like... Ran nervously thought, imagining his room to be filled with grotesque girl posters on the walls. She shuddered, and then thought of her latest manga series. That certainly was the remedy for everything.

Taro watched Ran-chan's and Suzume's interaction with interest and was very touched by the shy girl’s concern for her friend. He stared into the sky, imagining a situation in which Ran-chan was helping him instead of Suzume.

“Ouch, I twisted my ankle, Ran-chan!”
“Does it hurt, my dear? Let me help you!”
“Thank you, sweetheart! Would you like to go on a date with me tomorrow?”
“Yes, I‘d love to, Katagiri-kun!”

At this thought, the boy blushed right up to his ears and erupted in a sheepish, frivolous laughter. After earning some indignant scowls from the people around him, he hopped a few steps forward and motioned to the girls to follow him.

============ 10 minutes later ============

“That's my place, please come in.”

Taro turned the key and pushed the door open. After taking off his shoes, he opened the shoe cabinet and offered his classmates two pairs of slippers: the pink slippers were handed over to Ran-chan whereas the pitch-black ones were offered to Suzume.

The first room which the group entered was the living room. Unlike other Japanese families, the Katagiris had wood flooring instead of tatami flooring. The room was well-lit because it had three huge windows facing the south and a sliding glass door which led to a tiny backyard behind the house. A low, wooden table was standing in the middle of the room (just a few metres away from the TV) and four blue floor cushions were neatly placed around it. The living room was directly connected to the staircase which led to the second floor.

“My mum’s out of town, so we have the entire house for us today. My room is upstairs.” Taro pointed at the stairs and added slyly, “watch out that you don’t slip and fall, Suzu-chin.”

Taro's room was actually quite big but the furniture in his room took up so much space that it appeared to be a little cramped. The first thing which emerged in front of the visitor’s eye was a huge, tall book case. It was filled with various sorts of books, but on closer inspection, most of them were dusty and hadn’t been read for a very long time already. On the opposite side of the book case stood a big wardrobe which Taro regularly “updated” with new clothes to show off on dates. His piano was standing right next to the window on the left side, but as he hadn’t touched it for ages it could already be considered a piece of furniture rather than an instrument. Although the boy had never noticed it, his furniture seemed to depict the change he had undergone from a nerdy bookworm to a flamboyant dandy.

His desk was astonishingly well organized, the documents were neatly piled up next to the computer and there was no sign of disorder at his workplace. Only the cups, the beverages and the snacks on his desk seemed to be out of place, but they were only standing there because he had prepared them for his guests in the morning.

To put it in a nutshell, Taro’s room was unspectacular and normal, there was nothing shocking or scandalous about it. Even the walls were plain white and the only poster in his entire room was a huge world map above his desk. The few things which he deemed embarrassing had already been locked away in the top drawer of his desk. The "secret drawer" was by now filled with self-help books (such as “Ten Days to Self-Esteem”, “How to Stop Stuttering” or “Being a Man – A Guide to the New Masculinity”) and the few dating sims he regularly played in order to understand the opposite gender better.

“I am afraid that I only have two chairs in my room" Taro pointed at the swivel chair he was sitting on and the folding chair next to him (he ignored the piano stool in the corner). "Ran-chan, if you want, you can sit on my lap ~” He flashed an affectionate smile at the shy class president and patted his lap invitingly.

Ran quietly whispered to herself "sorry to bother" when she entered the doorway of her long-time crush's house. There wasn't anything out-of-the-ordinary; it looked just like any normal residence. It made her sigh in relief. Nothing abnormal. People say houses are a reflection of the tenant, so if Taro's house was neat, norm, and pure, so was the inhabitant.

However, knowing that his mom wasn't going to be supervising them scared the poor girl again. Her reliefs were suddenly conquered by her foreshadows. Dangerous, tainted thoughts loomed in her mind. Something to this extent:

Taro (in a deep, masculine tone) - "Oh, my lovely Ran-chan, no one's here to bother us. We have this whole house to ourselves."
Ran - "B-But, Ta-Takehara-san is here...,"
Taro - "Don't worry, honey, she won't bother us...,"
Suzume - "Oh yes I will!"
Taro - (kicks and locks Suzume out) "And stay out! Now..where were we..?"

"Eek!" Ran squeaked as the vivid, visual imagery continued to roam freely in her brain. She gave herself some space from Taro and leaned closer to Suzume, clenching her sleeve.

After walking a little bit longer, they were in front of the host's room's doorstep. As the door creaked open, Ran's heart pulse began to rise. Were there posters of revealing women on the walls? Were there unnecessary magazines all around the floor? X-rated movies, perhaps? Today was definitely the day Ran realized how impure her mind came to be.

To her amazement, when her eyes were able to see the room in its entirety, Ran saw that the place was completely average. It was clean, nothing perverted. The walls were bare, and the bed was neatly folded. Her pulse slowed down and her grip on Suzume's sleeve lessened. Ran looked at where the window was, and there was a piano. "A piano...?" Ran asked inquirily. Her heart now paced in excitement. Katagiri Taro could play the piano? How amazing! This was turning to be quite interesting for Ran.

"I love the piano! Katagiri-kun, do you play it?" Ran asked gleamingly as she childishly pointed at it.

“I am afraid that I only have two chairs in my room."

Ran stared at the host as he sat on the swivel chair and invitingly patted his lap. A cold sweat travelled down Ran's back. "N-no, thank you....," she peeped, suddenly remembering everything she was feared of. She quickly dashed to the vacant chair before the other guest could react.

As Suzume looked up at the rather unspectacular house, she sighed and muttered a polite "Ojamashimasu!*" as she entered, removing her shoes and taking the black slippers offered to her. At this, she raised an eyebrow, but settled for what she was offered. She wasn't very fond of pink, anyway, and a good guest never complains. At least, that's what she was taught.

The inside of the house was clean and just as unspectacular as its exterior, and even though it wasn't even the slightest bit scary or intimidating, Ran-chan still clung tightly to her arm. At this, she threw a smirk in Katagiri's direction as she followed him upstairs, ignoring his comment about herself having to take care to avoid falling again. Katagiri's room was no more or less interesting than the rest of the house. In fact, Suzume was somewhat disappointed at the lack of, well, interesting things inside. Even so, she was mildly impressed by its size - Katagiri's room was at least a few square feet larger than her own, yet he had it all to himself while Suzume shared hers with her little cousin, Yukari.

In the corner of her eye, Suzume spotted a small collection of snacks and drinks on Katagiri's neat and orderly desk. "Oh, I nearly forgot!" she exclaimed, resting her bag on the floor to open it. From her bag, she produced a small cardboard box, slightly bent and dented from being stuffed inside her book bag, but more or less unharmed. On the top of the box was a family crest and the words 'Akayama Sweets' printed in thick black calligraphy. "My uncle told me to bring these," Suzume opened the box to show six small sakuramochi**, neatly lined up in two rows of three. She set down the box next to the other sweets on Katagiri's desk. "Help yourselves!"

"I love the piano! Katagiri-kun, do you play it?"

Suzume glanced over to see what Ran-chan was so excited over. Indeed, there sat a piano. Strange. Katagiri never struck her as the musical type. He seemed far too interested in getting dates and trying to be cool than something as, well, potentially geeky as the piano. Not that she thought musicians were geeks - she herself played the saxophone on the side, and her best friend, Yuuki, was a student of Seiso's Music Department. Even so, she had difficulty picturing Katagiri sitting at a piano and playing anything refined. If he was to play anything, she half-expected him to play some cheesy romance song. She didn't bother to comment, however. She needed to find something more interesting to dig up about him.

“I am afraid that I only have two chairs in my room."

Suzume raised an eyebrow at that. Katagiri had seemed to go out of his way to ensure his room was cleaned and that snacks and beverages were prepared beforehand; yet, he hadn't thought to have enough chairs? Suspicious, suspicious! Before she could say anything, however, Ran-chan, to Suzume's great relief, declined his offer to sit on his lap, but that just left her with nowhere else to sit. This gave her an idea...

Without warning, Suzume went and sat down on Katagiri's lap, grinning devilishly. "Katagiri-kun, I suppose that just leaves me with little choice but here! It's a shame you don't have a third chair somewhere, but..." Suzume paused as she slung an arm around Katagiri's shoulders and placed the tip of her index finger underneath his chin, "I suppose I could get rather comfortable right here!"

[OOC: Sorry that it took so long ^^;]
----------------------------------------

"I love the piano! Katagiri-kun, do you play it?"

Ran-chan's unusually enthusiastic words threw the womanizer off for second. If all of his attempts to impress Ran-chan had failed in the past, how could it be that the mere sight of a dusty piano was enough to make her excited? One would expect a girl to be impressed by trophies, Prancing Horses or electric guitars - but a piano?

"I u-used to p-play it," Taro mumbled, shuffling his feet nervously, "But I stopped playing the piano after entering high school." The boy did not dare to lift his head because he dreaded to see the disappointment in her lively, orange eyes. He did not know what was more embarrassing at the moment: The fact that he used to play such a "geeky" instrument or the fact that he was not playing it anymore.

'If I could only play some romantic songs to her...' he thought regretfully and made Ran the "attractive" offer to sit on his lap. To no one’s surprise, she refused and sat down on the chair next to him instead. "N-no, thank you...."

"Are you sure?" Taro grinned leeringly at Ran-chan and reached for a third stool. "I'm just kidding, Ran-chan, here's a third - !"

Just at that moment, Katagiri Taro's life took an unexpected and dramatic turn.

"Katagiri-kun, I suppose that just leaves me with little choice but here! It's a shame you don't have a third chair somewhere, but...I suppose I could get rather comfortable right here!"

The boy's heart stopped beating for a split second.

None other than Suzu-chin was enthroned on his lap and (as if the violation of his privacy wasn't enough) she was also flirting with him in a rather insinuating way. Taro knew many boys who would die to take his place, however, he himself found the situation anything but enviable. Beads of sweat ran down his forehead and his thighs felt like lead

Since he was a teenage boy, the strange situation naturally caused strange thoughts to cross his mind. He blushed a little, but after catching a glimpse of Ran-chan, Taro frantically shook his head ('Uwah, Ran-chan will misunderstand, uwah!'), put on his best poker face and stared back at Suzume defiantly. Coughing a little, he carefully pushed the girl away.

"I know you're madly in love with me, but this is not the best time to make advances at me, don't you agree?" He stood up - legs still quivering a little -, shoved the piano stool to Suzume and continued matter-of-factly, "We're here to work, so please take this meeting seriously, Suzu-chin."

[Sorry for the late reply as well. XD But I think this cute post compensates for its tardiness? *shot*]
----------
"I u-used to p-play it, but I stopped playing the piano after entering high school."

"No way...I was looking forward to having Katagiri-kun play a classical piece today...," Ran mumbled, her facial expression glum. She had never EVER had a friend who could play any instrument. Then again, Ran had little friends. Still, knowing that someone so close to her could gracefully fimble their fingers on the piano keys made her extremely excited. Though, her ecstacy had disappeared when informed that Katagiri did not play anymore.

Was he of some reknown? Did he quit because it was too hard? Ran wondered so much why Taro didn't play the piano anymore. The instrument was so beautiful. How could anyone decide to quit after their fingers touch the keys? Ran decided to go ask him..though not right now. It didn't seem to be the most correct time. Maybe when it's just the two of them, she can go ahead and ask Katagiri.

"Are you sure? I'm just kidding, Ran-chan, here's a third - !"

Ran gasped. Her other classmate, Takehara Suzume, just upped and sat on Katagiri Taro's lap. "T-T-Takehara-san...! Wh-what...," Ran's voice grew really silent as her face puffed of a light pink blush. She usually didn't mind when other girls were all flirtatious with Taro, since she knew that he was a player. But, Suzume never actually liked Taro, nor his playing ways. To have her actually sit on his lap was very...very...hard to take in.

All of a sudden, the shy girl yearned to take Suzume's spot.

Luckily, Taro cautiously pushed the girl away from his lap and slid to her the piano stool and had stated,"I know you're madly in love with me, but this is not the best time to make advances at me, don't you agree? We're here to work, so please take this meeting seriously, Suzu-chin.". Ran quickly nodded at Taro's statement. All of Ran's quivers disappeared, but her pink face did not. Her heart continued to beat at an above-average pace. Ran clutched her heart, wondering why it wouldn't settle down. Was I just...feeling jealous of Takehara-san...? Almost immediately, her stomach nervously churned and she felt a little woozy.

I-I don't understand...Why don't I feel good...? Ran looked up to Suzume, and her internal pains just grew worse. She looked back at the ground and curled up in a ball, so all she could have seen was darkness. I...I don't like jealousy...

Suzume couldn't help but chuckle at Katagiri's flustered reply as he shoved her off his lap. She allowed herself to settle into the piano stool, although a little miffed at the fact that it was less comfortable than a proper chair.

"I know you're madly in love with me, but this is not the best time to make advances at me, don't you agree? We're here to work, so please take this meeting seriously, Suzu-chin."

Suzume smirked and flicked a few strands of dark hair from her face. "Only if you promise to do so, as well, Taro-rin! Keep your hands to yourself, now! Think of all the jealous girls at school. Right, Ran-chan?"

Her emerald eyes flicked over to the quieter girl, who seemed to have gone suddenly silent, only to find the girl pink in the face and looking like she was on the verge of passing out. Or being terribly sick. Either way, Suzume rushed forward and threw an arm around the flushed girl, using her free hand to feel her forehead.

"Ran-chan! Are you feeling all right? You don't look well at all. Maybe you should lie down," Suzume said with concern evident on her face. Then, suddenly, her gaze snapped back to Katagiri. "Taro-rin! Get a wet face cloth to put over her head...NOW!" Then, returning to her quiet, soothing voice, she said to Ran, "Here, how about you lie down on the bed? You should eat something too, if you can."

With strength Suzume didn't know she even had, she hauled Ran to her feet - her back straining as she did so - and helped her to bed.

OOC: Sorry for the uber-crappy post D: And for it being late. Ahhh, gomen~! I'll try harder next time...

[OOC: Suzume made Ran-chan lie down in Taro's bed...? O.o I don't want to know what is going on in Taro's mind right now XD]
====================================

"Only if you promise to do so, as well, Taro-rin! Keep your hands to yourself, now! Think of all the jealous girls at school. Right, Ran-chan?"

“I think you're mistaken, Suzu-chin! You were the one who groped me!" Taro protested with a sullen look on his face and folded his arms. “Now, shall we start with…?”

The sentence was left unfinished, for both Suzume and Taro noticed that Ran-chan looked awfully ill. He assumed that she was suffering from a stomach ache which was apparently so severe that Taro thought she might collapse any moment. Seeing Ran-chan in pain made the colour vanish from Taro's cheeks. As the host, he was the one responsible for her well-being and it was not difficult to tell that she was feeling very, very miserable at the moment. He had originally intended to "conquer" Ran-chan's heart under the pretext of working on a project together, but back then he had not taken a sudden stomach ache into account.

Were the snacks and drinks responsible for her stomach ache? Was the air too dusty even though he had hoovered his room on the evening before? Or was it simply too hot, too cold?

Taro rubbed his pale cheeks, trying to keep a clear head in this difficult and agitating situation. Not knowing what he was supposed to do, he watched Suzume help the ill girl to bed with dismay (Taro would have liked to carry Ran to bed himself, it somehow seemed romantic to him).

"Taro-rin! Get a wet face cloth to put over her head...NOW!"

“Yes, sir...” Taro replied rather morosely (he was glad that Suzume knew what to do, but on the other hand he also felt that she ought to show more respect for him, seeing as he was the host and she the guest) and flounced out of the room. He stumbled into the bathroom, cleared out the entire medicine chest and fetched a clean, wet face cloth from a cupboard. By the time he returned to Suzume and her patient, his mind had calmed down again and he carefully kneeled down in front of his bed (which had now become Ran-chan's sickbed).

“Here’s the wet cloth, Suzu-chin. I also brought band-aids for your injury. As for Ran-chan…” Taro rummaged through the medicaments he had brought and presented them one by one to the shy girl. “We have Lefax, Perenterol, fennel tea…shall I get you a hot-water bottle? Or perhaps…!”

His lips formed into a mischievous grin. A funny idea had just occurred to him.

Taro bent over Ran-chan and said innocently, “...Perhaps a kiss will make you feel better? I mean...you're already lying in my bed which makes things a lot easier...?”

"Ran-chan! Are you feeling all right? You don't look well at all. Maybe you should lie down."

Ran painfully looked up, arms still groping her stomach. She quickly looked away when she saw it was Suzume. "I-I'm fine, T-takehara-san...you don't need to...ah!" Ran was struck in astonishment when Suzume propelled herself up to her feet. She couldn't tell Suzume that she was just feeling...well...jealous of her. But then again, she wasn't just having a regular stomachache either. Ran was busy trying to not force any eye contact with Suzume, so she didn't know where she was going. At least, until she was helped to the bed and was slightly forced to lie down as Taro ran out of the room to get a wet towel.

Wait a minute...a bed?! Ran's eyes suddenly widened, and she forced her upper half off the bed. Obviously, she was lying on Taro's bed, and she had a hard time accepting that fact. Her face turned red, and she began to squeeze on Suzume's sleeve. She whispered,"I-I don't want to be on here, T-takehara-san..." She squeaked when she saw the bed's owner reenter the room.

“Here’s the wet cloth, Suzu-chin. I also brought band-aids for your injury. As for Ran-chan…We have Lefax, Perenterol, fennel tea…shall I get you a hot-water bottle? Or perhaps…!”

A sick look grew on Ran's face. She tried her best to get off the bed the moment she saw Taro's expression. However, all was futile, and Taro crept closer to her. Ran's jaw dropped open, and her stomachache just seemed to disappear.

“...Perhaps a kiss will make you feel better? I mean...you're already lying in my bed which makes things a lot easier...?”

At that moment, a flashback jolted through her memory. It was of her youngest brother Naoto. He was learning to be on the police force, and had told Ran some ideas of self-defense. She still remembered his words, as bright as day. "If a man...or a woman...is trying to make a move on you, slap them as hard as you can on the face. Either do that, or hit them...there.

After the flashback, Ran didn't even have time to think. Her instinct suddenly worked up and Ran's hand went and went full-throttle towards Taro's face. The moment Ran heard a loud BAM, she gasped, surprised at what she just did. "K-Katagiri-kun! I'm so sorry...! A-are you okay..?!" Ran's face grew pale, and she took the wet cloth that was supposedly to be used for her, and placed it on the area Ran slapped the host.

[OOC: I hope you don't mind that I posted my short reply a little early ^^; I thought that if Taro fainted, then he should faint now XD]
===============================

Ran-chan was a girl of small stature, but her slap was in a class of its own. She hit him directly in the face before he could dodge her hand, probably using more force than she'd intended to. Taro did not move (he was too stunned to react), he just felt pain jolt through his nose.

'Ouch…that hurt!'

But what pained him more than his physical injury was his hurt pride. He was dismayed that a girl could be so repulsed by the idea of kissing him that she resorted to such drastic measures. He was only trying to tease Ran-chan when he offered to kiss her, but assuming that he was serious: Was the idea of kissing him so despicable that she needed to slap him?

Taro’s cheeks flushed red and no effort of will could conceal the anger and humiliation he felt at the moment. He stood up without a word and rubbed his aching nose. ’No…I must not act rashly. I must downplay my irritation. Takehara’s watching and I don’t want her to laugh at me.’

He wanted to keep the pride that was left in him and put up a brave front. "See?" he said in an indifferent tone "My medicine has worked! Izumi’s in much better shape now! I am a wonder doctor, fufufufu!" But the brave laughter quickly died away when he felt something warm and wet on his hand. Taro rubbed his nose once again, but this time, he noticed that it was bleeding. His head began to spin; his body felt hot and cold at the same time.

'Is this…blood?'

Taro passed out.

Roleplayer: Takehara Suzume

As Katagiri ran out of the room, intent on getting the necessary items to help whatever affliction Ran had suddenly come down with, Suzume attempted to get the poor girl settled into his bed. Normally, she'd detest the idea of any girl in Katagiri's bed, but in these kinds of situations, Suzume would prefer Ran-chan lying down and preferably not on the floor. That left the bed as her only - and best - option. To her pleasure, however, Ran-chan attempted to push herself off the bed, seemingly repulsed by the idea of even touching such a contaminated and dirty surface, and it took much of Suzume's willpower to keep herself from smirking.

"I-I don't want to be on here, T-takehara-san..." Ran-chan squeaked in her timid voice. And, although the shy girl meant Katagiri's bed, Suzume took it to mean Katagiri's room in general.

"Just lay still for a bit, Ran-chan! And, yeah, I hate being here, too. The place reeks of -"

But, before Suzume could complete her sentence, Katagiri returned with a damp cloth and an assortment of medicines. As he listed the items he had brought with him, before Suzume could do anything, he let slip the words: “...Perhaps a kiss will make you feel better? I mean...you're already lying in my bed which makes things a lot easier...?”

Suzume's jaw dropped almost comically and just as she prepared her hand to smack the precocious, bespectacled boy for his daring (and for tainting Ran-chan's virgin ears!), Ran-chan did all the work for her. In the blink of an eye, there was a loud SMACK and, the next thing Suzume was aware of, Katagiri reeled back from the sheer force of Ran-chan's hand. Both of Suzume's eyebrows shot up so high they were hidden by her bangs as she watched the curious scene before her (though, to her slight dismay, Ran-chan immediately rushed to Katagiri's aid, using the wet cloth to treat the reddened mark on his face instead of for herself).

But, despite everything that had happened, Katagiri recovered relatively well and went on to proclaim himself to be a medical genius, seeing as how Ran-chan had seemingly begun to feel back to her normal self. Suzume sighed and rolled her eyes as she settled back onto the piano stool Katagiri had offered earlier, her gaze turning next to the box of sweets she had brought along for them to eat, contemplating which one she'd take.

Then, there was an audible thud and, alarmed, Suzume spun around in her seat, only to find Katagiri now on the floor.

"Hey, Katagiri, stop fooling around! We have work to do!" Suzume said sternly from her spot. But, when he didn't move, she blinked a few times and then exclaimed, "Not you, too! Oi, Ran-chan, help me get him into his bed, will you? Geez, this one's far too much trouble than he's worth!"

With fearful eyes, Ran continued to pat the wet towel on Taro's face, completely ashamed of what she had done. She just went and slapped Katagiri Taro! Slapped! Katagiri Taro! What was she doing, following her brother's advice for? Ran heaved a big sigh of anxiety, and continued to apologize to Taro.

"See? My medicine has worked! Izumi’s in much better shape now! I am a wonder doctor, fufufufu!"

Ran grew even more tense. It was really awkward for Taro to not call her "Ran-chan" anymore. Her slap must've hurt him real bad, both inside and out. Ran was about to cry. She never meant to do that to Taro, but she grew scared.

"K-Katagiri-kun, I-"

Suddenly, Taro fell off the bed and hit the ground hard. From her point of view, Ran could see a slight hint of blood trickling down his face. "Katagiri-kun!" Ran screamed, falling off the bed and rushing to his side.

"Hey, Katagiri, stop fooling around! We have work to do!" Suzume said, then suddenly yelled,"Not you, too! Oi, Ran-chan, help me get him into his bed, will you? Geez, this one's far too much trouble than he's worth!"

"T-takehara-san! Th-there's blood...!" Ran exclaimed, shivering and pointing to the bloodied nose. She took the towel and placed it on the bloodied area to wipe it off.
