Note: I'm RPing temporarily as Kira, the (upcoming) headmaster of Seisou, here instead of Yunoki.

Kira Akihiko was always fond of the rooftop ever since he first entered Seisou Gakuen many years ago. It was almost always deserted, except for maybe one or two students coming up here to practice every now and then. He found the quietness soothing, especially after hours of hard work when he most wanted to be left alone, undisturbed.

It was one of those days again, the man in formal business suit was here to take a short break because working to catch up with everything as the next headmaster was surely tedious. Leaning against the railings, Kira looked up at the sky and noticed that the sun was unusually bright today - not a single cloud could be seen. How unusual, Kira absentmindedly thought, for it was way past mid-autumn already. At that precise moment, his mobile phone rang.

Kira couldn't help but frown when he saw the incoming call number. Work again. Trouble. All he wanted was a few peaceful moments alone, was that too much to ask for? He went to lock up the rooftop door before answering it, in case anyone decided to come here - he couldn't see why anyone would though because it was still lesson time, but it never hurt to be extra careful... especially when it was related to some of the top secrets of the school.

"Hello, I'm Kira. ... Yes, what's your final price?" So they were really desperate huh, for them to confirm things this soon with us... Kira gave out a victorious smile as he listened - he might as well ask for more. "Add 20% to that price, and I'm selling this piece of land to you."

"What? Am I sure? Yes of course, managing a school means business, not some sort of volunteer services. After selling this land, I can just move Seisou somewhere else separately for a much lower price. You're a businessman too, you know how much profit I'll gain by doing this, right? ... Okay, contact me again when you've finished preparing the contract. See you then." Beep.

Suddenly, Kira felt energy zooming back to his body. Maybe it was time to work again? The man took a last glace at the glaring sun (so the sun is predicting my victory today eh) and started to head back to his office...

Just that... he failed to notice that the important conversation was overheard by a random student behind the locked door, who for some reason decided to come up here...

[This is where our random student bumps in and overhears the conversation]
===========================
Hyuga Katsuo was sent to the headmaster's office because he had accidentally shattered a window while throwing a baseball with his friends in the classroom. His mood hit the bottom rock as he stood in front of the headmaster's door, imagining the punishment he was going to receive. Kira would definitely make him pay for the window and tell his parents about it. How was he supposed to explain himself in front of his parents? And what would the headmaster think about him? It was his second visit at the headmaster's office this week already; just a few days prior he had been sent to Kira because of his constant bickering with Kobayashi. No, there was no way Katsuo could face the scary headmaster a second time...

'I have to get some fresh air before I go in there' he thought nervously and hurried up the stairs which led to the roof top. Just when he was about to push the door open, a familiar voice sounded from behind it - it was the headmaster.

"Hello, I'm Kira. ... Yes, what's your final price? Add 20% to that price, and I'm selling this piece of land to you."

Katsuo's first thought was to run away, but the call had aroused his curiosity. He stopped short and peeked through the door gap. 'I wonder what's he's talking about...?'

"...after selling this land, I can just move Seisou somewhere else separately for a much lower price...you know how much profit I'll gain by doing this...See you then."

'EH?' Katsuo thought, jumping back a few steps. 'EHHHHHHH?!' Without hesitation, he turned on his heels and ran back to his classmates.

"EVERYONE! EVERYONE!" he shouted, gathering a small crowd around him in the corridors. "KIRA'S GOING TO MOVE SEISO AND SEPARATE THE DEPARTMENTS!"

the shocking revelation.,
"EVERYONE! EVERYONE! KIRA'S GOING TO MOVE SEISO AND SEPARATE THE DEPARTMENTS!"

Hyuga Katsuo's announcement spread through the hallways of the General Eduction department like wildfire, passed from student to student like some hideous baton. Within minutes after he had skidded into the hallway and shouted the news, nearly every student in all five classes of second year had heard a variation of it. It was like a skewed version of Telephone, a story changing and growing with every whispered telling.

"Did you hear? Kira's going to split Seiso into two diferent schools--"

"I hear he's doing it for the money--"

"It'll be done within the schoolyear, they said--"

"No, not the schoolyear, within the month!"

"The month?!"

"Well, good riddance, those Music students were stuck-up anyway--"

"Ooh, but Yunoki-sempai from class 3-B is so nice!"

"And handsome, too!", followed by a chorus of giggles.

"Tsukimori Len in 2-A isn't so bad-looking either--"

"The month?!"

That last was uttered by Sasaki Junnosuke, 2-2's resident soccer-geek and He Who Taketh Especial Pride In Teasing Tsuchiura Ryotarou About Girl(s). He had been walking back from the restroom when a roadblock of rather epic proportions (re: a loosely-knit swarm of teenagers-- most of them girls-- blocking the way to another, larger loosely-knit swarm of teenagers, who were, in turn, loosely-knit-swarming around Hyuga Katsuo, to whom you have been previously introduced) blocked his way.

Now, many people called Sasaki Junnosuke, 2-2's resident soccer-geek and He Who Taketh Especial Pride In Teasing Tsuchiura Ryotarou About Girl(s) many things1, but he was nothing if not observant. After all, who else had noticed the subtle switch of priorities that Tsuchiura had had during the concours (most of the soccer team), and the way that the new transfer student had dazzled2 Hino Kahoko (everyone else)?

Well, suffice to say, Sasaki had overheard enough whisperings during his two-minute journey back from the men's room to deduce that a) there was something big up, and b) that something big involved Kira Akihiko's separating the Music and General Education Departments and moving Seiso elsewhere.

It was, if he said so himself, very good detective work.

"Guys!" he called, squeezing past the packed students and stumbling into his own classroom. This faux pas was largely ignored; class 2-2 had become largely immune to less-than-perfect entrances, due in most part to Hino Kahoko periodic lateness and Sasaki's being, well, Sasaki. "Did you hear? Kira's separating the Music and Gen Ed Departments!! It's all over the school!!"

"What are you talking about?" asked Kaji Aoi, aforementioned transfer student and Dazzler Extraordinaire3, a bemused half-smile on his lips. Sasaki repeated his statement, this time punctuating it with enough dramatic hand movements and sweeping gestures that the blond viola player was half-convinced. "Where'd you hear this from, Kira himself?"

"Er. Well. Not really," Sasaki admitted, scratching the back of his head awkwardly. "But I'm sure it must have come from him somehow! I mean, no one would ever joke about something like that-- Seiso's Music and Gen Ed Departments have been together for, like, forever! It's probably something that no one should know about, because none of the teachers have ever mentioned it--"

"Do the Music Students know about this?" Kaji interrupted, still somewhat incredulous. "This concerns them, too, you know, and if this is true, they should have a right to know."

"Well... I kind of only heard about it here, in the Gen Ed Department," Sasaki amended, "but they'll probably hear about it soon enough. I mean, you can't keep something this big secret, after all. Someone's probably running over to tell them right now!!"

1 "many people", it may be of interest to note, usually referred to a certain green-haired pianist, who gravitated between calling Sasaki his best guy friend and, on Teasing Tsuchiura Ryotarou About Girl(s) Days, his favorite soccer ball target (by accident, of course. Tsuchiura would never hit him on purpose. Really.)
2 as in, literally dazzled; you could practically see the sparkles
3 not to his face, of course. The nickname was simply a nod towards his first day of school (see above), and a reference to a weird foreign vampire love story that had taken quite a few of the girls in class by storm

ooc;
Umm...I hope I'm not interrupting anything by replying DDD: AND, GRATUITOUS NPC USE I'M SORRY. It's just that since Sasaki isn't listed in the Canon Characters list, I kind of considered him free game? If it's not allowed, I won't do it again, promise!!D:

Roleplayer: Takehara Suzume

Suzume had taken the more scenic route to and from the bathroom that afternoon. And by scenic, she meant the route that offered the best chance to see the best-looking guys in the General Education department (mostly consisting of Kaji Aoi, Tsuchiura Ryoutarou, and Toyonaga Riju). Today, the boy she wanted to see most was either Toyonaga-senpai or Kaji-kun (Tsuchiura-kun was easy to spot outdoors, playing soccer sometimes, but the other two were a little more elusive).

Oh yes, scenic, indeed!

But, her little extended journey proved to be more "scenic" than usual, although in a different sense of the word. There were big crowds gathering in the hallway, everyone chattering about something-or-other. Didn't they have classes to be in? Studying to do? Suzume couldn't believe they were all like her, taking scenic routes to bathrooms or wherever. Amidst all the talking, however, she couldn't make heads or tails of the big story - she only snatched bits and pieces of it, such as something happening within the month and something to do with the two Seiso departments.

Suzume shook her head and continued on her way, pushing past the little crowds-within-crowds until she found herself wandering past Class 2-2 (just as she had planned!). She stopped briefly to covertly peek in through the door's window.

Inside, easy to spot in all his dazzling glory, was Kaji Aoi, the new transfer student and the one who had captured nearly every girl's heart in the school. According to her notes, he was smart, athletic, handsome, kind, and posessed a very impeccable family background. Rumour also had it that he had decided to transfer to Seiso from another, extremely prestigious school just to see Hino Kahoko, also of Class 2-2 (Coincidence? Maybe not - Suzume suspected some strings had been pulled, although she had no evidence to prove otherwise). In any case, at the moment, he was speaking with Sasaki Junnosuke, whom Suzume knew to be part of the Soccer Club and was friends with Tsuchiura-kun, and who was currently speaking to the class.

Curious, Suzume pressed an ear to the crack in the door, listening intently to the conversation. After just a few minutes, however, she matched up Sasaki's story with the pieces of conversation she had heard in the hallway - Kira was planning on splitting the Gen Ed and Music Departments!!

Suzume's jaw dropped as she jumped away from the door, as if it was suddenly poisonous. 'No way! They can't do that!' were her immediate thoughts. As much as she wanted to believe Kaji-kun (<3), she still had a creeping suspicion that something big was indeed about to happen, and that she was not going to like it at all. After all, she had attended Seiso to support Yuuki-chan in the Music Department. If they were separated, then it would very, very difficult to keep that up and they'd never see each other at school anymore...

Suzume whipped out her cell phone and quickly sent off a text message to Yuuki ("Yuu-chan! There's a rumour going around here that Kira is separating the Music and Gen Ed departments! Have you heard anything about it?") before pocketing it again and running off to her own class. Throwing open the door, she exclaimed, "There's a rumour that Kira-sensei is going to split the school up within the month!!"

"They what!?"

Toyonaga Riju let his jaw drop.

"I'm tellin' you, man! This is a hundred percent, absolutely true! Some guy -- Hyuga, Ryuga, oh whatever -- he heard the headmaster --" Konno, a classmate of Riju's since middle school, panted, his face showing a mix of excitement and despair.

"Okay, okay! I believe you." the brown-haired boy sighed, loosening his tie and collapsing on the well-trimmed lawn behind the General Education department. He had been intending to take a nap, but now he found it hard to do so. "So, a school without the music department, eh?"

Riju tried to visualise a school filled with only Gen Ed. students. He knew many people who felt intimidated by some of the, well, 'kinglier' Music students. They didn't actually do anything particularly violent, except perhaps aiming domineering sneers at the 'other half' of the school from time to time. Not very friendly.

He closed his eyes and sighed. A faint rustle of grass indicated that Konno was rushing off to tell someone else about this news. Riju didn't want him sitting there while he was napping, anyway.

squish

A jolt of pain ran up his right foot. Someone must have stepped on it. Hard.

"What the --" Riju sat up, widening his eyes and furrowing his brow.

"Toyonaga-kun! Have you heard? The school --"

"Oh my God." he facepalmed, letting out another big sigh. It'd take a while for this rumour to die down.

"Why couldn't you have just put it on wheat bread?" snapped Nakamura Kaede as she walked down the hallway with her coworker, worst enemy, best friend, and fellow pianist Kita Hototo. Most would wonder what in the world exactly they were arguing about, and it would be the matter of lunch.

If Kaede were a serial killer, which some people suggested to her in high school as a future occupation, her lunchtime modus operandi was this:

1. Find Kita Hototo. If he's not there, wait for him to sit down.
2. Sit next to him with a rather loud banging of herself into the seat (melodrama was her forte).
3. Immediately steal half of his lunch, or all of it if she's in a bad mood, more-or-less.

Today, however, he had violated the Laws of Kaede-World Physics and brought something entirely disgusting to lunch, which should could not abide by. It was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on white bread and it was disgusting, to put it nicely.

She had peered over his arm and looked at his little tray, but could not bring herself to even take a second look once she got a good eyeful. He should have known better, the idiot! Peanut butter was, for one thing, something she was slightly allergic too (found out the hard way) and it caused her to gain weight in all the places she didn't want to gain weight, really.

(All is vanity, in the end.)

"Do you know, Kita-kun, how dangerous peanut butter can be? There was a salmonella outbreak recently, and I have no intention of winding up in a hospital because of you." She narrowed her eyes, a habit she had been taking up recently, and strode down the hallway to who-knew-where. All she wanted to do was lose the stupid idiot, but he had taken up the occupation of merely walking behind her, long strides easily keeping pace with the tap-tap-tap of her heels on the marble floor while he followed her with a smug smile creeping onto his face.

He grunted in response, and she shrugged and continued on her ramble, stopping only to suddenly listen, because Kaede is a rather... nosy person. (To put it politely.)

"KIRA'S GOING TO MOVE SEISO AND SEPARATE THE DEPARTMENTS!" she heard as she turned the corner, and immediately stopped, cocking her head sideways.

"Well, isn't that wonderful?" she muttered aloud, "...nosy kids won't be all over my piano stuff now."

Her amusement went unnoticed and she was becoming annoyed with the rioting in the hallway, and instead pushed the door open into Kira Akihiko's office and said to the rather-handsome man -- oh, wait. This was her boss. Ahem. Stop thinking about that, Kaede... (well, there goes that measure of sanity.)

Ignoring the color rising in her face, she merely choked out, "The departments are being... moved?

"As I can see, that's not going over well, but I'd like to. Um. Offer. My. Regards, Kira-san."

Kita merely raised one eyebrow in response, and there was silence.

"SHIBAAAA! SHIBA! I-I-I-I-IT'S TERRIBLE!!" The addressed person could do nothing but raise an eyebrow -- what else could the taciturn boy do when cornered in his seat during lunch break by the class joker (Gouki Takashi, who he barely spoke to as it was) who was pressing his face dangerously close to his? Nothing.

"... What?" said Shiba, pushing the other boy away slowly, inching backwards as he did so.

"M-MARIKO-CHAN'S SPLIT UP WITH THE BASEBALL TEAM CAPTAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN!" yelled Gouki. He liked to wrap himself up in the love affairs of the people in the class, and was attracted to gossip like bees were to honey. “-- oh yeah, and the principal’s splitting up our section and the music section.”

“Huh,” said Shiba, his brain automatically filtering out the first part of the classmate’s dialogue. Not that it was a particularly big deal for him, but quite a few people in his class were on relatively friendly terms with the stiff-upper-lips in the pale uniforms. Plus, it’d be pretty hard to get used to not being able to stand around outside the building and listen to random streams of musical genius (he especially liked lurking around the cello section when he was bored). “Isn’t your girlfriend in the music section?”

“Oh, her? We broke up. She got together with the baseball team captain,” said the boy, twirling a lock of his hair in his fingers. “I’m thinking of hooking up with Mariko-chan, what do you think --”

Shiba stood up and made to leave. “… Go for it.”

Roleplayer: Otori Shun, Izumi Ran

[I think it's all right for me to roleplay both Ran and Shun on this post, right? If not, I'll go fix it up later. XD]
--------------

Ran just happened to be passing by the roof entrance when classmate Hyuga Katsuo slammed open the door and screamed frantically "EVERYONE! EVERYONE! KIRA'S GOING TO MOVE SEISO AND SEPARATE THE DEPARTMENTS!" He slightly bumped into Ran, but didn't notice and continued on his messenger journey. Her feet grew unbalanced, and she slightly toppled to the side until someone caught her with both arms. Ran slightly looked up to see a friend she hadn't seen in so long.

His name was Otori Shun.

"O-Otori-kun...!" Ran blushed as she fixiated her feet on the ground. She stared at the 3rd year towering over her. Shun was like another brother to her. He was always so caring, and joyful, and his gleeful mood even brought up little shy Ran's disposition. They met when Ran accidentally had dropped her sketch pad on the way to school, and Shun had picked it up, searching through the papers for a specific name. Ran later had realized she lost it, ran back, and saw Shun ecstatic with her manga and artworks. Ran had always been more friendly with people who enjoyed her creations, so she was always more open to Shun. Though, since he was a music student, and also a third year, Ran never got to see him much. Music student!! Ran gasped in surprisement.

Shun was indeed a music student, and if what Hyuga Katsuo said was true, considering he actually heard it from the director himself, then Ran would never see Shun again. Their current count of encounters were already low, but at least there was a specific chance to meet.

"O-Otori-kun! Did you hear what Hyuga-kun said just now...?!" Ran nervously questioned. At that moment, Ran took a quick glance at a clock near her. If she kept the conversation going any longer, she was going to be late. Ran quickly bowed and whispered a sorry and promised to meet up with him during lunch. She dashed frantically to her class to see Suzume by the entrance, repeating what she just heard to the class.

"Takehara-san..you heard too...?" Ran asked.

--------------
Shun was just briskly walking on his way to class when he saw a familiar friend walking towards him. Izumi Ran, one of the most cute and shy girls he had ever got to befriend. He still remembered how they met, as bright as day. His daydreams were interrupted when the roof door entrance slammed open and the latter slightly bumped into Ran. Seeming not to notice, the boy continued to run in a panic, suddenly shouting something so shocking to Shun's ears he couldn't believe it.

Then he saw Ran stumbling. He ignored what he heard for just a moment and opened out his arms to welcome the tumbling 2nd year in. He turned pink-faced for a moment when he realized she was in his arms, then quickly set her down gently.

"O-Otori-kun...!"

"Yes, it's me, dear Ran-chan. How have you been?" Shun tweaked the girl's nose and laughed. He was not able to see Ran in so long, because of their different departments and school years. Ran was a 2nd year, general education student, and he was a 3rd year, music student. All so suddenly, Shun remembered the words the running boy screamed out. Oh no! Shun thought, his surprise kicking in again. If the two departments split up, then...then I won't be able to see Ran-chan again! Or..or anyone else from the Gen-Ed classes!

"O-Otori-kun! Did you hear what Hyuga-kun said just now...?!"

Shun nodded weirdly. "Do you think he's telling the-huh?" Right then, Ran quickly bowed, apologized, and ran off in the opposite direction, promising they would meet up at lunch. "Hey, wait! Ran-chan! Where are you going?!" Shun exclaimed. When he finally realized there was no way Ran would return, Shun sighed and walked to his class.

When he entered his lovely classroom, it seemed that the messenger boy did a pretty good job of spreading the rumor. Everyone was talking about it; some were even saying additional information that he didn't even know. Shun suddenly grew very worried. He didn't want the departments to be split. He fitted in more with the gen-ed students anyway. Shun just sighed, and sat on his desk, half-listening to everyone gossiping.

“Isn’t it just horrible Shika!” Hotaru dramatically stated as she slammed her hands down on her friends desk. No one else in the classroom paid her any attention busy in their own gossiping. Hotaru just told Shika what she heard from other students but of course Shika already heard it too with the news spreading everywhere quickly. “Who knows when we will be able to hang out if the schools are split? You always seem so busy doing whatever you do at home so we don’t get to hang out much after school.”

Rubbing her temples slightly Shika sighed and said, “Who knows, so far it is just rumors. We will hang out sometime, and there is instant messenger or whatever. It is not the end of the world, so calm down.” What Shika said was an attempt to calm Hotaru down. It worked somewhat but not a whole lot.

“I guess you’re right, but it would be so sad if that does happen.” Hotaru looked down at her watch and then added, “Well I better go then, don’t want to be late to class. See you later.”

Shika just gave a little wave as a goodbye and Hotaru went off towards her class. She had to speed walk because she had to go all the way to the music department and then go to her class. A few times Hotaru was late if she just took her time walking there from one of her friend’s class. Accidently bumping into someone she yelled a sorry over her shoulder and continued her fast pace.

Finally getting to her class Hotaru swung the door open and saw that everyone was doing whatever and still gossiping and the teacher wasn’t even in the room. Hotaru ran a hand through her hair and sighed, a sigh of happiness and annoyance, for not being late and rushing for no reason.

Hotaru grabbed her shoulder strap on her bag as she started walking into the classroom near her seat. Before she got there she noticed a familiar messy brownish-red haired boy sitting on a desk. She smiled and walked up to him and greeted, “Hi Otori, isn’t this gossip just depressing?”

"Boy you look bummed," Minamimoto Waka, Shun's seating neighbor and closest friend, stated. He sat behind of Shun and was constantly tapping on his shoulder. Waka had always been laughed at for his name. "Minamimoto" for being extraordinarily long, and "Waka" just because it sounded weird. The thing is, the one who made fun of it the most was his best friend himself, Otori Shun. Though he didn't mind. He knew he was joking. Besides, Waka always joked from the fact that Shun and Haru had the exact same first names. "Hey, did you hear?" Waka whispered, continuing to tap Shun's shoulder.

"Yes, yes I did! From the root of all evil too, so stop tapping me, Waka," Shun muffled, head down. He was worried in its entirety. All of his friends from the general education department...all of them..gone? He won't be able to stop by for a greeting of some sort? Not even...Izumi Ran? Shun scratched his head, frustrated. "I can't believe this...," Shun sighed again. Waka, who finally stopped tapping, smiled at the girl walking his way. Fellow classmate Fuji Hotaru walked up to Shun for a greeting. "Hi Otori, isn't this gossip just depressing?"

"Tell me about it, Fuji...Do you even believe this? You think the director would even think of doing such a thing?" Shun, who finally raised his head to look at his female friend, glumly smiled. Waka began to poke Shun, as if wanting his friend to introduce him. Shun ignored his constant pokes and continued his talk with Fuji. "So, Fuji, what brings you here to Otori Shun? You don't usually come here before class," Shun grinned, pinching the girl's cheeks.

For once, Hino Kahoko, klutz and late student extraordinaire, had made it to class more or less on time (within the five minute grace period allotted all students by virtue of the traffic jams that congealed into large snarls of teenagers in the hallways whenever classes let out), only to witness one Sasaki Junnosuke's dramatic stumble and even more dramatic announcement. Needless to say, her jaw (rather predictably) dropped, and before she quite knew what was happening, she had pushed back her chair and was standing, fists clenched in righteous indignation and incredulity, staring at Sasaki like he'd grown four extra heads.

"You can't be serious!" She exclaimed, unable to believe what she'd just heard. "No one's going to--they can't! Not after this year! Hasn't everyone seen how amazing it is when everyone comes together in support of music? I thought that was the whole point of the concours! How could they possibly think of just throwing all that away on a whim?" When she had calmed down marginally enough to listen to the back and forth dialogue between the messenger and Kaji the interrogator, her conclusion was simple and straightforward. She knew exactly what she needed to do.

"If no one has asked the headmaster directly, no wonder these rumors are flying. I'm going to his office right now and I'm not leaving until I find out the truth," she announced, and never mind the trouble she'd likely be in for leaving class without permission. This was too important. It had to be dealt with straight away, before this absurd rumor could go any further and gain more credence. Disturbed by the rumor and determined to find out if there was any truth to it, Kahoko exited the classroom without saying anything further, taking rapid strides down the hallway toward the headmaster's office.

It was at this juncture that she realized that she had no idea what she was actually going to say to the headmaster when she found him, or, for that matter, how she would know, since she had never actually met the man in person. But did this put a damper on her resolve? Of course not. Never mind the details. She would figure it all out when she arrived. Right? ...right?

Finally, she arrived in front of a rather imposing-looking door labeled 'Headmaster'. So that was easier than she thought it would be. Without questioning, or, indeed, thinking too much about what she was about to do, the red-headed violinist pushed the door open, stepped inside and proceeded to announce to its occupant with passionate conviction, "please don't separate the schools and move Seiso! Everyone is completely devastated and it's just a rumor now and it can't be true because it goes against absolutely everything this school stands for!"

When she paused for breath, it was brought to her attention that the man standing behind the desk, looking bemused, surprised, and a good bit taken aback by her outburst was a) younger than she had anticipated the headmaster being, b) staring at her in an odd way, and c) rather attractive but really she shouldn't be thinking about "c" in any way or shape or form and it had no bearing on the situation whatsoever. Ahem. Foot, meet mouth.

"Tell me about it, Fuji...Do you even believe this? You think the director would even think of doing such a thing?"

Fiddling slightly with her bag strap Hotaru answered, “I’m not really sure what to think. Thinking of it as only rumors and not true is nice, but I’m really starting to believe that they are true. The director hasn’t made any announcements that the gossip is only gossip and surely he knows that the news has spread around.”

When she saw that Shun was smiling glumly Hotaru attempted her own smile in hopes to cheer him up. It wasn’t a super bright smile that would make everyone feel better and cheery, probably turned out similar to Shun’s current smile, but it was an attempt.

All of a sudden she saw a finger poking Shun’s shoulder repetitively. Looking behind her friend she saw another boy who she didn’t even see earlier. She really needed to get to cleaning her glasses. Feeling bad for ignoring him Hotaru was about to say hello but Shun started talking again. Wow he was completely ignoring the guy besides him. Perhaps he deserved it with all that poking?

"So, Fuji, what brings you here to Otori Shun? You don't usually come here before class."

Crossing her arms Hotaru replied, “Is it wrong that I just came over to say hi to a friend? You looked kinda… H-hey!!” Hotaru’s hands dropped from under her chest and rested near her sides and her eyes widened a bit. Shun was now grinning and pinching her cheeks. Regaining her composure Hotaru glared, which wasn’t much of a glare at all, at the boy in front of her. She glared at his hands and then focused her glare back at Shun. Hotaru then grabbed both of his wrists and pulled them away from her face. “What was that about!?” She rubbed her cheeks some, they were a little redder than pinching should have caused.

Hotaru leaned forward with her finger dangling in front of his face. “No touching, okay?” She then poked him in the middle of the forehead. Leaning back away from him Hotaru crossed her arms again and said, “You were looking kinda gloomy so I came by to try to cheer you up some. Gloomy doesn’t fit you at all; you look a lot better when you are your normal, goofy, cheery self. At least I don’t have to worry about that now.”

Taking her glasses off and wiping them slightly with the end of her uniform shirt Hotaru said, “I wonder if there is anything we can do to stop the two departments from splitting.” Slipping her glasses back on, which where hardly any cleaner, Hotaru asked, “Who’s your friend?”

“I’m not really sure what to think. Thinking of it as only rumors and not true is nice, but I’m really starting to believe that they are true. The director hasn’t made any announcements that the gossip is only gossip and surely he knows that the news has spread around.”

Shun nodded, eyes growing even more depressed. He started thinking of all of the gen-ed friends he won't see anymore. Aiya-chan, Mizuki, Takemoto, and...Ran-chan! Shun bumped his head on the table, silently moaning in pain. He didn't want it to split, but what Hotaru had said had some sort of reason within them. If it was gossip, especially something as slanderous as this, the teachers and staff members would be quick to assure the students it wasn't true. Since there had been no announcements as of late, then that does raise suspicion.

“What was that about!?

"Hehe, you're just so cute, Fuji! It's quite hard to not pinch those little cheeks of yours! Besides, we're friends aren't we? This is what friends do~!" Shun smiled cheerfully, and reached for her cheeks once again, until Hotaru oh so suddenly ordered him not to do that again. Shun faked a sad look on his face, and put on his puppy-dog face.

“You were looking kinda gloomy so I came by to try to cheer you up some. Gloomy doesn’t fit you at all; you look a lot better when you are your normal, goofy, cheery self. At least I don’t have to worry about that now.”

"Ehh~~?" Shun cooed, eyes hinting a sense of deviance. A sneaky smile crept from his lips, and he scooched himself closer to Hotaru, eyebrows raising. "Do you have some hidden feelings for me, Fuji? I know I'm quite a catch, but I didn't think someone like you would fall for me!" Shun started laughing, and scooted back to his original spot. "Just kidding, just kidding! Haha, did I look cool or what?"

“I wonder if there is anything we can do to stop the two departments from splitting. Who’s your friend?”

"Yeah I know, I won-"

Waka knew right now was the right time. He quickly stood up, face completely red and heart beating quicker than usual. "U-um! Hi there! M-my name is Minamimoto Waka! I-I'm Otori's friend, and I play the french horn..! N-nice to meet you!!" Waka quickly bowed, eager to hide his blushing face. Shun smiled at his best friend. "Someone's a little gung-ho, isn't he?" Shun whispered to himself. He just pushed Waka back to his seat and continued his conversation with Hotaru.

"As I was saying, I wonder if we can sign a petition or something, or manage to convince the director not to split the departments apart."

Shun seemed deep in thought and getting gloomier by the second. When he bumped his head on the table, Hotaru patted his head and said, “Don’t hurt yourself now Otori.” Even though she said that, Hotaru felt like banging her head against something too. She could see no reason why the director would want to split the schools.

"Hehe, you're just so cute, Fuji! It's quite hard to not pinch those little cheeks of yours! Besides, we're friends aren't we? This is what friends do~!"

Hotaru blushed slightly and mumbled, “None of my other friends do that.” Only her grandmas pinched her cheeks saying how cute she was. Shun was definitely not some old relative. Hotaru had to laugh a little at the thought. Looking over at Shun again Hotaru had to laugh even more when she saw his puppy dog face. “That is not going to work on me.”

"Ehh~~?" With the look in Shun’s eye and the mischievous smile he wore, Hotarue couldn’t help but think ‘Oh boy, what now’. Hotaru tried to prepare herself for whatever Shun was planning but she had no idea what would happen so she could only brace herself slightly when he started scooting closer and raising his eyebrows. Hotaru couldn’t help but fidget some when she felt her friend was getting a little too close. "Do you have some hidden feelings for me, Fuji? I know I'm quite a catch, but I didn't think someone like you would fall for me!"

Hearing this, Hotaru’s jaw dropped. She definitely had no idea he was going to say something like that. Her cheeks reddened slightly again and she quickly closed her mouth. Turning her head quickly to the side she snorted. The idea was preposterous. Hotaru heard Shun laugh and scoot back to where he was originally sitting. "Just kidding, just kidding! Haha, did I look cool or what?"

Looking back over at Shun, Hotaru finally got her bearings straight and said, “I would say you looked more of the ‘what’. Definitely not cool.” Tapping her chin as in deep thought she added, “I wonder what the ‘what’ would be though. Also as far as I know I have no hidden feelings for you. Plus it is what friends do; try to cheer each other up.” Adding a lighter, teasing note to her voice Hotaru said, “And how would you know what type of guy I would fall for? Maybe Otori you’re the one who has hidden feelings.”

"Yeah I know, I won-" Shun was cut off as his friend stood up to face Hotaru.

"U-um! Hi there! M-my name is Minamimoto Waka! I-I'm Otori's friend, and I play the french horn..! N-nice to meet you!!"

Oblivious to Waka’s red face, Hotaru held a hand to a mouth to hide her grin. The grin was caused from hearing his name. It was similar to one of her favorite characters in a video game; Hotaru was a nerd like that to be grinning the way she was when she heard the name. Dropping her hand and giving a little bow herself she said, “I’m Fuji Hotaru, nice to meet you. I play the french horn too, maybe we can practice together sometime.”

Before the two could talk anymore, Shun pushed Waka back into his seat. "As I was saying, I wonder if we can sign a petition or something, or manage to convince the director not to split the departments apart."

Nodding her head in agreement Hotaru said, “Perhaps that could work. The best way to convince him probably is hold some event that involves both departments and somehow everyone benefits from it.

“I would say you looked more of the ‘what’. Definitely not cool.”

"That's not nice, Fuji," Shun jokingly moaned. He gazed at his friend, his smile getting wider. Thinking about it, Fuji was probably his second best friend in this class, first being Waka, of course. Ever since their meeting on that fateful hill, they've gotten so much more close. Shun continued to look at his friend. Beyond the glare of herpurple-rimmed glasses, Hotaru's eyes shone of a brilliant shade of blue. Like the ocean, perhaps. They seemed to be a little darker than Shun's aqua-green eyes, but he thought they were beautiful.

“I wonder what the ‘what’ would be though. Also as far as I know I have no hidden feelings for you. Plus it is what friends do; try to cheer each other up, and how would you know what type of guy I would fall for? Maybe Otori you’re the one who has hidden feelings.

Shun started laughing. Him? Have hidden feelings for Hotaru? Strangely, it never roamed through his mind. He was never quite the romanticist. Though he had a lot of girl friends, he never exactly LIKED them in that way. Shun stared at Hotaru again.

“I’m Fuji Hotaru, nice to meet you. I play the french horn too, maybe we can practice together sometime.”

Shun took a quick look at Waka, smiling. Waka, whose face was turning redder by the minute, raised his head. "Y-You play the french horn too, Fuji-san!? Y-yes! We should practice together sometime!" Waka blurted out. Shun couldn't help but laugh. This was the first time he ever saw his friend burn up for a girl before. It was definitely a sight to see. "Yes~! You two should definitely practice together, whilst I go practice with some flute player in this class," Shun cooed.

“Perhaps that could work. The best way to convince him probably is hold some event that involves both departments and somehow everyone benefits from it."

Shun nodded. "But what are we going to do about it? We're just measly music students in the third year. Haha."
