Who: Fuji Hotaru, Hihara Kazuki, and Yunoki Azuma Where: Classroom 3-B When: Right before class starts Hotaru slid the door open to her classroom with a bored expression on her face and saw that it was quite empty. There were a few people there but not many. Soon more people would fill in the room to get ready for class. Walking past the door Hotaru’s shoulder slightly bumped the door frame but her bored expression did not change. Her weird habit of always walking into the door frame is now a normal and expected thing for the girl. Hotaru’s feet slowly dragged her body to her desk, which was conveniently located next to a window. The french horn player always liked gazing out of it and daydreaming, which occasionally got her into trouble. When she got to her desk finally she placed her bag on top of it. The girl then slid into her chair and searched through her bag. Finally finding the stray papers she was looking for the girl pulled them out, adjusted her glasses, and started reading its contents. Toshio and Aymui, her parents, talked to her the other day about what she would want to do with her future. In all truth Hotaru never really thought about it much. With her high school career coming to a near end she had to start thinking about it. The papers she held now were about some universities she looked at earlier and was now reading them in more detail instead of skimming briefly. She didn’t really find this too extremely interesting because she would rather be doing other things, but it was something that needed to be done. Many people in her class she knew already figured out what they wanted to do in their life. Hotaru never thought about it much really because she was one of those people who mainly looked at the present and not too far ahead into the future. Taking a quick pause in her reading Hotaru searched through her bag once again. Usually she packed a snack to feed on before class starts and today her snack was marshmallows. It was not the healthiest snack in the world but as long as you eat healthy every now and then and exercise a lot then it all turns out good. Most of the time her mom checks what is packed as the girls snack and lunch to make sure it is not junk food, but today Hotaru snuck out the marshmallows. Hotaru went back to her reading while munching on a few marshmallows. |

Hihara stood in the hallway and watched his classmate , Fuji Hotaru, as she bumped her shoulder into the door's frame as she entered the classroom. He continued to watch the spot where her shoulder had connected with the frame even though she had moved on into the room and--in all probability--to her desk near the window. Hotaru did that often, if Hihara remembered correctly. Granted, if he was in the classroom before Hotaru, her entrance often went ignored. There were so many things to grab at his attention. But today he noticed it, and he wondered why it had become such a ritual to the girl (if ritual it was). On the spur of the moment, he hurried into the room. As he entered his gaze jumped across the room and came to rest on Hotaru. The blond-haired girl had pulled out some papers from her bag. I wonder what that is? Notes for class, maybe? But did Hotaru take notes? Hihara didn't bother feeling foolish for considering the question--it never occurred to him to feel bad for thinking it. He couldn't remember if he had ever noticed her taking notes before, and since it wasn't something he knew it made him wonder. Taking quick steps, Hihara walked up behind Hotaru. Leaning awkwardly to one side to get a glimpse of the contents of the papers Hihara pursed his lips. What was that? Information on universities? Leaning down close to Hotaru and looking over her shoulder he glanced at the words on the page. "What'cha lookin' at?" Hihara asked in a cheerful boom, even though he knew the answer. It was, after all, never too late to start talking more to some of his classmates. Right? |

"Well then, see you all later." Bidding farewell to the group of surrounding fangirls as usual, Yunoki Azuma opened the door to his classroom with an elegant silence (it was disgraceful to open and close doors with a loud bang - at least that was what he was brought up to believe) and to his mild surprise, his best friend Hihara Kazuki has already arrived before him. Yunoki would usually arrive at the normal time - not too early, not too late - but his friend had a habit of getting late or just in time for class. At any rate, this wasn't something they could see everyday... When this happened last time, Yunoki got really sick for some unknown reason all of a sudden and had to go to the hospital wing. Could this be a sign again, signaling that something bad was about to happen today? No, that's illogical. I'm just under lots of stress lately... It wasn't like him to feel uneasy over such tiny matters, so he mentally reminded himself to get some marshmallows on his way home today. Actually, Yunoki had always liked marshmallows; he found the soft sweetness soothing, especially in times when he was tired or upset. Pushing the disturbing thoughts away, Yunoki Azuma headed towards his green-haired friend, who seemed to be talking to one of their classmates... Fuji Hotaru? "Ya, good morning, Hihara. Good morning to you too, Fuji-san. Seems like the two of you are having a nice chat, I wonder what it's about?" The flutist wasn't particularly interested in the conversation itself, but he couldn't just sit down like that without greeting Hihara (they were sitting next to each other), and he couldn't just greet Hihara and then ignore the girl either. A quick glance at the girl's papers told him that he better stay out of this conversation, but unfortunately the situation did not allow that so... well, no choice. Just when Yunoki was about to put down his bag onto his desk, however, something else caught his eyes: The girl is eating marshmallows...! |

"What'cha lookin' at?" Hotaru heard a cheery voice say behind her. “AHHH,” Hotaru shrieked as she jumped a little and flailed her arms wildly about, almost hitting the cheerful person behind her. The girl never noticed anyone near her while reading, well until they spoke, and unfortunately for her, Hotaru easily jumps when people surprise her like that. She looked behind her and saw that it was her classmate Hihara. She sighed while placing her hand over her quickly beating heart and said, “Don’t scare me like that Hihara-san. Ah sorry for almost hitting you.” Hotaru shifted in her chair so she was facing the trumpet player. “I’m reading about some universities I might consider going to after high school. Some are really far away, others cost too much, and I’m not sure what I even want to do exactly with my life,” the girl whined. “It is all too stressful and troublesome,” Hotaru added in a depressing tone. The girl snatched another marshmallow out of the bag and munched on it to cheer her up. After popping another one into her mouth she felt much better. “Sorry again for making you listen to my tale of woe.” "Ya, good morning, Hihara. Good morning to you too, Fuji-san. Seems like the two of you are having a nice chat, I wonder what it's about?" Nearly startled again Hotaru blinked and looked over at the newcomer. It was the Yunoki Azuma. Two popular people talking to her, wow that usually doesn’t happen Hotaru thought. She talked to a few of her classmates but not a large number of them. A large population of her class was made up of extreme fangirls of the purple haired flutist, which she could feel some glares coming from their postion in the room. The french horn player finds most of them to be quite scary and intense. Hotaru admired Yunoki, what girl at Seiso wouldn’t? He was kind and played the flute beautifully. She also admired Hihara because of his usual cheerful personality that was contagious and he was awesome with a trumpet. “Good morning Yunoki-san,” was all Hotaru got out. She rather not make someone listen to her tale of woe again. After the greeting Hotaru snacked on some more marshmallows. The girl laughed a little as she saw Yunoki eyeing her marshmallows. She picked up the bag of marshmallows and held it out between the two boys. “Want some marshmallows?” |

Hihara had neatly sidestepped Hotaru's flailing arms as she jumped, startled from her thoughts. For his part, Hihara couldn't keep a smile from his face. Being surprised was no great part of fun, but doing the surprising was plenty of fun. Should I feel guilty about startling her so badly? he wondered for a moment before deciding--Naw, it's fine. No harm from it anyway--and trying to get another look at the papers Hotaru had been pouring over prior to his interruption. “Don’t scare me like that Hihara-san," Hotaru placed a hand over her heart as though her own touch would calm the racing organ. Ah sorry for almost hitting you." "Don't worry about it. I dodged," Hihara replied with a wide grin. When Hotaru shifted her position to face Hihara more directly, he leaned against the nearest desk, propping himself up with one hand. It never occurred to him that he might be an unwanted intruder into his fellow student's personal space, being friendly by nature and glad for the chance to chat with anyone willing to endure his presence. Somewhat unexpectedly, Hotaru was willing to divulge her thoughts. From first glance Hihara had wondered how willing the girl would be to talk much. “I’m reading about some universities I might consider going to after high school. Some are really far away, others cost too much, and I’m not sure what I even want to do exactly with my life,” Hotaru explained. Hihara nodded, sympathizing with the choice Hotaru would eventually make. Planning for the future could be daunting. No stranger to those feelings, though less inclined to let those emotions bother him for long (usually), he understood the options were potentially frightening to people who didn't feel ready to face them. Raising an eyebrow as Hotaru added, “It is all too stressful and troublesome," in a mildly whining tone. The trumpet player shrugged one shoulder, but bobbed his head once to show that he got her meaning. “Sorry again for making you listen to my tale of woe.” Chuckling, Hihara waved away the apology with one hand. "I asked you and you answered, and I asked because I wanted to know. No need to apologize for that." The sound of approaching footsteps caught Hihara a little off guard, but as soon as he heard the voice belonging to those footsteps a new smile burst across Hihara's lips: "Ya, good morning, Hihara. Good morning to you too, Fuji-san. Seems like the two of you are having a nice chat, I wonder what it's about?" "Ah, Yunoki!" Hihara turned to greet his friend. It never bothered him how wildly popular his friend was. It was a part of who Yunoki was and Hihara accepted it with his usual convivial receptivity. Hihara respected Yunoki for his likability--the way everyone gravitated to him because of his personality as well as his skill with the flute. There were some moments Hihara felt a little bewildered at the luck of them both becoming friends, but he was always glad to be a friend to Yunoki. "I wanted to know what she was thinking about," Hihara responded to Yunoki. "She's trying to figure out what to do after high school. You know, looking at universities." He eyed the proffered bag of marshmallows and deftly dipped his hand into the bag before Yunoki could react. "Why, thank you!" he beamed as he popped the sugary fluff into his mouth. The girl is eating marshmallows - yes - but that's none of your business, Yunoki Azuma! After some brief moments, the pretty flautist forced himself to look away with a (fake) calmness on his face, not noticing for a change that his female classmate has already seen his quick glance. He then went ahead to put down his belongings onto his chair before officially joining into the conversation... unwillingly, but Yunoki of course hid it well enough under his usual perfect-student mask. "She's trying to figure out what to do after high school. You know, looking at universities." Hihara answered him instead - which was perfectly normal, given that he was closer with the trumpet player (the girl may be too shy to repeat it once again anyway, Yunoki figured). "Universities eh..." Whether Yunoki was trying to repond to his friend's comment, or if he was only talking to himself, he wasn't really sure. Yunoki knew well enough what he was supposed to do for university - even way before he got into high school - because everything was already predecided for him since his birth. As the third son of the infamous Yunoki family, he knew he had to give up music and go for something Business-related next year in order to support the family. He knew, but it was a totally different matter to actually put it into action. Yunoki cared about his family too much to leave them totally alone, but it was painful to give up music either because he recently found out that he has fallen hopelessly in love with his golden flute (probably under the influence of a particular red-haired violinist). He has made that decision long ago, so why was he still hesitating now? "Want some marshmallows?" Fuji Hotaru asked. That must be offered out of courtesy, Yunoki convinced himself that the fact that he actually liked marshmallows was still safe and unknown, but he decided it wouldn't hurt to be extra careful anyway. Looking at how his friend ate the offered candy energetically, however, Yunoki laughed softly from the bottom of his heart. That was just so characteristic of Hihara. "Thank you, Fuji-san. That's so nice of you." Yunoki smiled at the girl and took a sample of the whiteness into his mouth. Hmmm... "This is the new strawberry-chocolate crossover marshmallow*, right? I heard that it's quite popular among girls so I've been wanting to get one for Miyabi - ah, she's my younger sister, you see. Thanks again, it's good." It might not like him to speak that much all of a sudden to the girls around him, but it was a much needed preventive measure to stop weird rumours (like "OMG Yunoki-sama actually likes marshmallows!") from spreading. "But anyway, speaking of universities..." - it wasn't good to dwell on the topic of marshmallows forever - "The deadline for handing in our choice form is next week, right? Hihara, you'll have to make up your mind soon." Yunoki smiled once again, reminding him in a friendly manner. Knowing his friend, the green-haired boy probably did not have any specific plans for the future, and that he still had yet to make up his mind. With this, Yunoki has directed the question back to them - if he was lucky, he might be able to get away without having to talk about his own university plan at all, since the morning bell should rang anytime soon by now... [*Sorry, I totally made that up! XD] |

Hotaru smiled and replied with a quiet “you’re welcome,” as Hihara quickly and cheerfully took a marshmallow. His mood just seemed so contagious; perhaps she should try to hang out with him more often. Hotaru watched Hihara for his reaction, the whiteness of the marshmallow was alluding really. It seems like a regular marshmallow but it is actually a new crossover flavor. The marshmallow took her by surprise the first time she had it. Her sister just gave it to her without telling her and laughed at the expression she made. "Thank you, Fuji-san. That's so nice of you." The girl looked over at Yunoki as he said this. She watched for his reaction too since the flutist didn’t really seem like the type to eat marshmallows. Hotaru was surprised though when she heard Yunoki say, "This is the new strawberry-chocolate crossover marshmallow*, right? I heard that it's quite popular among girls so I've been wanting to get one for Miyabi - ah, she's my younger sister, you see. Thanks again, it's good." For a little bit Hotaru just sat there and blinked. The girl wondered how he knew what the new flavor right away. He had no surprise on his face at all or any noticeable change on his face expression at all. The comment about his sister made her guess that the sibiling has given the marshmallows to Yunoki before. Finally coming back to reality Hotaru quickly nodded her head a few times and replied, “Yeah it is the new strawberry-chocolate marshmallow. They are pretty good.” "But anyway, speaking of universities...the deadline for handing in our choice form is next week, right? Hihara, you'll have to make up your mind soon." “N-next week!” Hotaru yelled out. She thought it was sometime later, not this soon. Really she needed to pay more attention in class sometimes. Realizing she just yelled out Hotaru blushed in embarrassment and mumbled a small, “sorry.” Hotaru sighed and scratched the back of her head, the happy mood of marshmallows leaving her slightly. Looking back at the two boys she said, “I bet you two are going to continue in music, am I right?” To her it looked like they loved and enjoyed music greatly. She could tell even though she doesn’t know them that well. |

~Yay! I finally have a new power cord so I can use my computer *happy sniffle*~ - This is the new strawberry-chocolate crossover marshmallow, right?" Hihara mushed the marshmallow around his mouth in the mouth for a moment after he registered Yunoki's question. Ignoring the rest of Yunoki' conversation, Hihara swallowed and a thoughtful look crossed his face. To be honest, he had hardly thought about how the marshmallow tasted--it tasted good and that was what mattered in the end--and the fact that the taste was unlike that of regular marshmallows had gone over his head. "Ah...!" he blurted after Hotaru confirmed that the marshmallow was of a different flavor.m"It is different!" The fact that Hihara looked so dumbfounded over a marshmallow was an amusing sight, but the expression faded away quickly back to Hihara's usual smile. "I hadn't noticed at first, but it is different. But it's good." Looking and Yunoki as he snatched another marshmallow, Hihara said, "I think you should get some for Miyabi. I bet she would like these." Hihara was about to settle into a comfortable silence while snacking on marhmallows (though the silence wouldn't have lasted long-- Hihara would have started rambling about something), but Yunoki must have had other plans, for he brought the discussion back around to the original topic of universities. And the upcoming deadline. "But anyway, speaking of universities...the deadline for handing in our choice form is next week, right? Hihara, you'll have to make up your mind soon." Spluttering, Hihara choked a little as he swallowed the whole marshmallow in shock. "AH!" he gasped, still coughing a little to clear his throat. "I forgot!" "It's a good thing you remind me," Hihara replied, looking a little panic-stricken. "I have to make a decision soon! I was thinking I had so much time still!" At the same time as Hihara voices his surprised Hotaru yelled out, "N-next week!" Hihara laughed a little when Hotaru apologized. "Don't apologize about it" he smiled. Once she had composed herself, Hotaru asked, “I bet you two are going to continue in music, am I right?” "Absolutely," Hihara affirmed. "I love music too much to do anything else. I've been snared." he laughed. "I'm really exited about it." |

Really apologies for the slooow reply >____< _______________________________________________________________________________________ "Ah...! It is different! I hadn't noticed at first, but it is different. But it's good." Upon hearing his (only) friend Hihara's respond, Yunoki Azuma couldn't help but to let out a soft laugh. That was just so characteristic of him! During these three years, he has always been so carefree (well his "troubles" were all unimportant anyway, at least when compared to his own), so cheerful, so... energetic. Yunoki merely thought it would be benefitial in many sense to befriend such a popular guy at the very beginning, but he somehow forgot that purpose along the way and came to treat him as his only friend as time passed. It was as if his carefreeness was infective, Hihara could always make Yunoki laugh from the bottom of his heart no matter how bad his day was. Why? Why was it this soothing to be just with Hihara? "Yeah you're right Hihara, I was just planning to get something sweet for her this morning. Nice timing isn't it? Yunoki puts up a gentle smile on his face again - one that was perfectly suitable for a caring brother. Turning around a bit to face his female classmate, he replied politely, "Well you know my situation - my future is already decided before I even become a highschooler." Giving her another sweet smile (smiles are the best defence afterall), Yunoki answered her question in such a vague (but seemingly convincing) way that anyone would normally assume that to be a "yes". Little did they know the hidden truth behind the smile... RIIIINNNNNNGGGGGGG - there went the morning bell, signalling the official start of another school day just when the last word has left Yunoki's mouth. Now THIS is what I call "nice timing", Yunoki secretly thought. "Hihara, Fuji-san, there's no need to rush. There is still time right? It's alright to think carefully about your future so that you won't regret it afterwards." Facing his two classmates once again, the flautist bid them goodbye before returning to his seat (which was actually just a few steps away). With this, Yunoki has successfully prevented them from discussing too in-depth about his own future plan... but for some reason it didn't make the purple-haired boy feel any better. Maybe it's time to go and tease my toy for a bit again... I haven't seen her much lately anyway... |

When Hihara finally figured out the marshmallow was a different flavor, Hotaru grined and hid a small laugh behind her hand. His face expression was just priceless. The question she had was how could he not notice at first that the marshmallow was a different and unique flavor? Shrugging off that question, Hotaru just sat in the silence that came upon the group. In the silence Hotaru couldn’t help but think about her university dilemma. She had many ideas of what she could do in the future but she didn’t know which skill to choose from. Baking was just a hobby really she couldn’t do much with that. Plus she didn’t have any original recipies so that would be somewhat like stealing and everything that got baked Hotaru would have eaten. There was always creating video games, but Hotaru just enjoyed playing the games really and could never figure out the fancy computer programs. She got annoyed at them too easily and lost her patience. Hotaru’s next top options were soccer and music. Soccer though got pushed away to make time for music. Hotaru mentally sighed, that means she would have to practice a lot more to be able to get somewhere far in music. Playing made her happy but she needed more enthusiasm or something to help her get into music like she used to be. Perhaps Hotaru thought she should visit her old teacher again? After Hotaru’s question about music Hihara answered, "Absolutely. I love music too much to do anything else. I've been snared. I'm really exited about it." Hotaru laughed a little with him and said, “That’s great. I think I might continue in music but I’m not too sure. I need to get more excited about it I guess.” Yunoki then turned around to face her and replied,” Well you know my situation - my future is already decided before I even become a highschooler.” Hotaru knew a little about his situation, everyone did, but he didn’t really answer the question. The bell rang and it pretty much closed the conversation so Hotaru didn’t ask about the question again. He probably will continue music though if he got into the music department and was in that music competition Hotaru thought. "Hihara, Fuji-san, there's no need to rush. There is still time right? It's alright to think carefully about your future so that you won't regret it afterwards." Yunoki said and gave a good bye. “Nice talking to you Yunoki-san,” Hotaru said as he walked back to his seat. “Nice talking to you too Hihara-san.” She smiled at the green haired boy and gave a little wave. Slipping her papers back into her bag, Hotaru was happy that she had more of an idea of what she wanted to do in the future. Right now though, she just needed to pay more attention in class. |

RIIIINNNNNNGGGGGGG The sound of the bell made Hihara jerk a little; he nearly jumped. The sound had been expected, to a point--the morning bell was a daily event, but Hihara had gotten so caught up in the conversation that he had forgotten about the bell, and that was why it had elicited such a surprised reaction from him. Grinning sheepishly as he heard a few of the nearby students giggling at him, Hihara gave a waved and laughed along with them. What a sight that must have been: seeing me so startled by something so ordinary. "Well you know my situation - my future is already decided before I even become a highschooler," Yunoki was saying i answer to Hotaru's question. Hihara nodded absentmindedly. He knew a bit of what Yunoki's life was like (at least he thought so). Hihara's friend gave a little smile and added, "Hihara, Fuji-san, there's no need to rush. There is still time right? It's alright to think carefully about your future so that you won't regret it afterwards." "Hmm... I guess you're right about that," Hihara ran a hand through his hair, still smiling. "I would want to make sure I do what's best for me, right? Why do it, or go somewhere, I don't like, eh? All this talk about what could happen in the future, it's too important to just let things happen without giving it much thought." A faintly worried expression flitted across Hihahra's face,l but he shook off the worry and shrugged. "Well, I know for sure I'll follow the path of music. At least I know something about my future, right?" He laughed and headed toward his desk, but paused at the sound of Hotaru's voice. "Nice talking to you Yunoki-san. Nice talking to you too Hihara-san." "It was nice talking to you, too," Hihara replied with genuine good feeling. "And thank you for the marshmallow. It was really good." With one last smile for Yunoki and Hotaru, Hihara plopped himself down in his seat. |
