The University Life 101 Thread

A) Info: Habataki Daigaku
(I can only provide some general info on the university of our RP, not on university life itself)

What courses are offered in Habataki Daigaku?
Basically, your character can study whatever he or she wants at Habataki Daigaku.

What about Habataki Daigaku's reputation? Is it a very renowned university?
Habataki is not as renowned as some other universities like Todai, so it probably won't be the first choice for those who want to study law or medicine. For those who want to study music, though, the Habataki Academy of Music offers a very promising future. The Habataki Academy of Music is part of the university and is known for its strict but highly qualified professors. It is also affiliated with a lot of European music colleges and you often see foreign exchange students roaming the campus.

[this post might be edited in the future as the need arises]

B) Info: University Life
(feel free to leave a question or two here - perhaps the real university students at BNB can answer them ^^)

I can offer a bit of insight into university life. Granted, I've never been to a university in Japan...but I'm going on the assumption that it's not too different *swt*

First, university is not necessarily more complicated. It's just that it's a lot more flexible than high school. You pick a major (your area of study), although some will have specialties (e.g. someone going for their science degree may be specializing in astrophysics, microbiology, or biochemistry, etc.) and some may choose to do minors (kind of like a secondary area of focus in another subject). Depending on what your major is (and if you want to specialize and/or minor in something else), you will have to fulfill certain requirements (e.g. complete specific classes).

On the side, of course, you have your elective classes, which can either be related to your major or not. Most people use them to boost their averages, though, by choosing "easy" courses xD However, at least in my school, students must arrange their own schedules so they have to make sure their classes don't conflict while still fulfilling their program's requirements. Students also have to be aware that certain courses have prerequisites...so you have to plan that, as well.

How busy each student is heavily dependent on the student himself (like, does he spend his spare time studying in the library or does he play games on his computer instead?) as well as the courses he chooses. I've heard of people having as little as 15 hours of class a week but I've also seen 30+ hours a week. Most people I've talked to seem to average about 20-25 hours of class time a week, though.

Aaand that's the gist of it, to be honest ^^; It sounds complicated but it's really not.

As for those having qualms about uni-life, let me assure you that it's really not that different compared to high school. If you read Kotoko's refresher, that basically sums up what life in college is like. Should you guys have more questions, please feel free to ask and I and other uni students would help you out as best as we can. :3
