Censorship in Music (a.k.a. Money for nothing...); WTF?!?!?

Also I think Xamad (and whoever wrote this article) are mistaking 'stereotype' for something else. The argument at the beginning, though I question it's validity, makes sense, while her example does not. Unless there is a "men who are tattooed to look like skeletons are generally very happy and social adjusted people" stereotype that I am not aware of.
An example of a self-fulfilling stereotype would be that a girl is expected to be weak, and are treated as such, and so she never tries to lift anything heavy because she is told that it is impossible to do it.
The article says: "Basically, people started to treat him positively. And now he’s super upbeat! An awesome example of the self-fulfilling stereotype." That is not an example of a self-fulfilling stereotype, and I wonder if the author even knows what that word means. The example may instead be a great display of how positive social interaction makes people happy because we are social animals and as such are hardwired this way.

On a personal note, it is also not a very good article because over half of it is quotes from a different article, besides the fact that what she wrote doesn't make sense. If you ever have to write an article for school, take this as an example of what not to do.

Haha right! I forgot to sum up. It was an article I was given to read as part of my deviance in society class. I have to write a response so thank you Isura for your insight!

Also no, I don't think it justifies stereotyping.

Women's studies are meh.

(And now to hopefully redeem myself)

I find that women's studies tend to be focused on history and one thing that I though we should have learned by now is that focusing on the past as that gets us nowhere (As history or HIS-STORY is propaganda of the victors and really tells us nothing) and instead focus on the future which is constantly changing. Men should be taught how to treat a lady and women should be taught how to demand respect (in an effective way) when she is not given it. (I totally would have gotten an awesome mark in that class in high school lols)

Since Women's Studies is my major, and something I've devoted 4 years of my life to studying, I think I can say, with certainty, that you're an idiot.

It is certainly not all about 'his'tory, and the idea that gender relations will be fixed if men learn "how to treat a lady" is beyond moronic. Hell, third wave feminism looks at issues of race and sexual identity, and ableism, etc. Until you actually bother to do some research, I would suggest that you avoid making such generalized statements.

As for your "awesome mark lols" I doubt it.

Correct. More research needs to be done on my part. However that being said a 4 year study gives you a much deeper and thorough understanding and a chance to get into the real heart of it. From my perspective (Grade 12 psych, socio, antho and now my socio and psych classes throughout university) it has been quite the opposite of yours. It has been very history based and thus has yet to produce a holistic perspective of women's studies or peek my interest. "Treat" is also entirely subjective and I and the use of the word did not convey my thoughts the way I thought it would.

At the risk of this getting entirely off topic I suggest we move this to another topic board.

Please stop moving topics to another board every time someone bests you in an argument. >.<' It's getting a little bit silly at this point.

Isura, whoever you are, you're awesome. Which school are you taking WS at? Not Guelph, I imagine?

The only marker we have for judging our actions in the future are actions we have taken from the past. If we do not study the past and learn from it, we are doomed to repeat it.

Onegirlarmy: Thank you I know. ;D Also, high five to my equality buddy! I'm at the University of Western Ontario, in my third year.

Xamad: if this was a more popular topic, where the current conversation risked drowning out other posters, I would agree with you. However, since The topic was going to die anyways, I don't feel that this is inconveniencing anyone.

And I think my friends who are history majors may have a thing or two to say about the uselessness of focusing on the past.
