What Makes a Website Good/Interesting?

Hey all,

I'm going into an internship next week where I am going to be working on a number of websites for films as well as a company or two. I was wondering what, in your opinion, makes a good website? What keeps you interested or makes you decide to look at a site?

On the flip side, what, in your experience, turns you off of a website or makes you lose interest quickly?

What kinds of layouts work for you and what ones do you hate?

Any and all input is most welcome.

Thanks!
El

No drop-down bars. Man do I hate those. It's ok if I have to click on them, but if I'm supposed to just hover over it, all my rage.

League of Legends kept me (mostly) sane~
I've always enjoyed bright, vibrant flashing colours that go off whenever I move the mouse, and disturbing images flash for split seconds whenever I click links.

Sing it with me!
