Superstars. These rain delays are "killers". Andy took the break with a 5-2 lead; the match ended with a victory for Mardy. Remember, the same thing happened to Maria at Cincinnati, last week. Of course, there is a difference in the why of the loss. Maria suffered a physical injury. Notwithstanding residual effects from mono, it is clear that Andy continues to lull from some head issues that existed before the mono. Others seem to be in denial or stepping lightly; we, Team Ebony, will help him in a more direct way. Andy, thanks for your contribution; our headway comes from your efforts, too.

Big applause for Roger, victorious over Baghdatis. As Lisa noted, "I like this, Roger." His work at the net is fabulous. He's experimenting, a sign that he is understanding the need for "change". Roger, watch out for Fish, an average player who achieves fabulous results, here and there.

Caroline, you are too accident prone. Do not be kicking soccer balls with Svetlana while on this rain delay. Then too, it could be a ploy to get you complacent about the match. Okay to be friends, have dinner or something, no soccer. You want to win this match; beat Vera or Victoria, and move on to the next tournament [wish you would reconsider; do not play PP].

We should take Cincinnati and Rogers, this week. So, you know the deal:

You Are Great!!!
KEEP HAPPENING!!!! STAY IN THE FLOW!!!!

Federer shows he is the man to beat again at U.S. Open

MASON, Ohio, Aug 22 (Reuters) - Roger Federer returned to winning ways on Sunday by claiming the Cincinnati Masters and announced himself once again as the man to beat at the U.S Open.

There had been talk of Federer being in decline after he went out at the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, part of a near seven month streak where he has failed to win a tournament.

But the manner of his victory over American Mardy Fish in Ohio showed his opponent—and plenty of other observers — that the Swiss is the leading player in the best form heading into the Open.

The Swiss has an astonishing record at Flushing Meadows, having reached the last six finals and winning all but last year’s loss to Juan Martin del Potro, and Fish believes Federer is a different beast when he turns up at the grand slams.

“He’s just been there so many times. Clearly he loves the U.S. Open and his record is incredible in grand slams. I feel like he’s a different player even in grand slams as opposed to even Masters 1000 tournaments,” Fish said.

“I think he realises the importance—when you speak about the best players ever, you speak about how many grand slams they’ve won. I know that Mats Wilander won seven grand slams but I have no idea how many Masters series he won,” he added.

Federer said the biggest obstacles he is likely to face in pursuit of a 17th major crown will come from familiar quarters — Briton Andy Murray beat him in the Toronto final last week and Rafa Nadal is desperate to complete a career grand slam by hoisting the elusive U.S. Open trophy.

“I guess the top four have the best shot again. We can all play really well on the hard courts. Murray has proven himself, so has (Novak) Djokovic on the hardcourts and so has Rafa. He’s won the Australian Open,” said Federer.

“Maybe U.S> Open is a bit faster, so you figure Rafa will struggle a bit more. But if the draw goes his way, he’ll be in the final (stages) and have a crack to the title, too. He knows how to win slams. He’s won all the other ones.

“So I think it’s gonna be an interesting U.S. Open. Many guys are playing well again. Murray didn’t win a tournament for a long time, and he’s been able to win Toronto again. So that definitely puts him as one of the favourites as well.”

But there is no doubt who the 29-year-old Federer believes has the biggest chance of all—himself—and he is far from fazed by the rivals he faces.

“I’ll always have new challenges coming up. I used to play against Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi, and Carlos Moya, and Todd Martin and all those guys,” he said. Next generation was sort of already my generation almost. It was Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt and Marat Safin and Juan Carlos Ferrero.

“So I’ve played through many generations now. Always been different challenges and rivals. That’s not going to change. I think every five years you’ll have someone new. I think the next generation is probably already sort of knocking on the door.”

Wozniacki cruises to win at Montreal Cup

MONTREAL, Aug 23 (Reuters) - World number two Caroline Wozniacki breezed to a 6-3 6-2 victory over Vera Zvonareva in the final of the rain-hit Montreal Cup on Monday, confirming her status as the red-hot favourite for the U.S. Open.

Wozniacki, runner-up to Kim Clijsters at last year’s U.S. Open, once again appears to be hitting her hardcourt stride at just the right moment collecting her third win of the season and second hardcourt title in three weeks.

Following the victory, the 20-year-old Dane quickly packed her bags and headed off for her final U.S. Open tune-up in New Haven where she is the top seed and defending champion.

A razor-sharp Wozniacki began the day crushing Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2 6-3 in their rain delayed semi-final held over from Saturday and then disposed of Wimbledon finalist Zvonareva in just 74 minutes.

“After waiting around two days and unable to play I actually felt a little bit tired going out for my first match because mentally you have to be prepared all the time,” Wozniacki told reporters. “But I’m so happy, I won two matches today and it is a great feeling.”

The players were back on centre court just two hours after their semi-final matches and Zvonareva, who advanced when Victoria Azarenka retired with blisters while trailing 7-6 1-0, was quick out of the blocks with the early break.

But Wozniacki was soon in control sweeping through the next four games.

Zvonareva had a chance to extend the set earning triple break point with Wozniacki serving at 5-3 but could not convert, the Dane fighting back take the first.

Wozniacki kept up the pressure in the second gaining the early break while a frustrated Zvonareva started gesturing and talking to herself.

Sensing the Russian’s aggravation, Wozniacki moved in for the kill with another break in the seventh game than served out to clinch her ninth career title.

Wozniacki, who is likely to be awarded the number one seed at Flushing Meadows after world number one Serena Williams was ruled out of the grand slam with injury, can take over top spot in the rankings with a successful title defence in New Haven and a victory at the U.S. Open.

“Of course I would like to be number one in the world but Serena is a great champion, she’s won so many grand slams,” said Wozniacki. “My goal for now is just to try to win a grand slam and the number one spot is secondary to that.” (Writing by Steve Keating in Toronto; editing by Frank Pingue; To query or comment on this story email sportsfeedback@thomsonreuters.com)

OMG, yes. I sure hope this does not turn out as badly as that decision to let Andy M. go at Wimbledon. Chardy was a 50/50, but I was nervous because that silly Ernests comes through just when I least expect him to. No where would I have predicted Michael thumping Berdych.
